The new remedy is not working perfectly (in a 74 year old body only so much can be expected!), but I feel MUCH better than I have since I was a kid! Finally, a correct diagnosis! Dr. Brendler has common sense about tests, listens well, and came up with a completely different and correct diagnosis. Don't give up without consulting her.

I just had surgery here a week ago and it was a great experience. I had never had surgery before so…read moreI was nervous, and my mom was an emotional wreck which meant I was too. From the moment arrived to the moment I left I was treat with care, compassion, and empathy. My surgery was scheduled for 2:15pm and I was instructed to check in at 12:30pm. I was given the standard procedures by the center weeks ahead of time. The anesthesiologist Dr. Carroll called me the night before and walked me through everything she would be doing. She answered my questions and listened while I explained my complicated medical history. She made note of things that would affect her ability to do her job so she could be prepared the day-of. I felt like I was in good hands and wasn't nervous ahead of time because of how thorough everything was. When I arrived I checked in immediately. They had me sign some papers and pay the copay (honestly the worst part, thanks insurance), then I had my mom come over to collect my things and help me take my jewelry off. We hugged goodbye and I started to cry, at which point the person who checked me in gave me some tissues. The transport came and took me away in a wheelchair. They took me into a bathroom and went over some instructions before leaving me alone to change and give a urine sample. I came out when I was ready and was shown to my bed. The pre-op beds are all in a row and separated by a curtain so there's virtually no privacy when it comes to talking. This is the case everywhere so it's to be expected. I had one nurse going over my case with me and another setting up my iv. I was crying most of that time, not because of my own feelings but because I knew my mom was in the waiting room with my partner and she was crying. The nurses were incredibly empathetic and gave me tissues and comforted me. They were gentle putting in the iv and got me way up and comfortable. When they were done they closed the curtain so I could have some privacy while I got my tears under control. This began the long wait. I waited about two hours in pre-op. My surgery started about half an hour late, not too bad by doctor standards. I spent the time laying with my eyes closed and working through some choreography I had to come up with for dance, so I was actually pretty productive. I was offered magazines and an iPad to watch a movie on, but I declined and just relaxed with my eyes closed instead. It was a bit cold but they offer you heated blankets if you want. When it was surgery time, my surgeon and Dr. Carroll came and talked to me. We talked about my complications with anesthesia and they made a plan to make sure I got the care I needed without suffering. We agreed not to use Lidocaine in the anesthesia or in surgery due to my allergy. They said it would burn a lot when I was being put under, but otherwise I shouldn't have any issues. I was on board with it since I likely wouldn't remember anyway (and I was right - no memory of actually falling asleep!). When everyone was ready I was walked to the OR. It was a chilly 63°F in there but you're out almost the entire time so it doesn't make much of a difference. They had me hop up on the table and got me situated. My arms were strapped down by the OR nurse and Dr. Carroll put an oxygen mask on me. I started to get dizzy so I closed my eyes but otherwise felt fine. The last thing I remember is talking to her about how excited I was about the house I just bought and moved into. After that, I woke up with no memory of falling asleep or the burning pain from the anesthesia. I was woken by a nurse gently saying my name in recovery. I was so tired and in pain so she grabbed me a Tramadol. I just wanted to rest so she gave me a few minutes before coming back with some apple juice and applesauce. It was the best meal of my life I swear to god. With my consent the nurse went and grabbed my partner and brought him back to me. He listened to the discharge instructions and helped me get dressed. I went to the bathroom before I left and he had to be in the room with me. I then got in a wheelchair and the nurse (I think her name was Rachel?) wheeled me out to the front of the building so my partner could help me into the car. My mom met me there and we drove home around 5:30pm. A nurse called me in the morning to see how I was doing and that's the last I heard from them. Overall all of the staff at this surgery center made my experience much less scary and more comfortable. I have another surgery at a different place next month and I wish it could be here just because of how wonderful everyone was. I know we don't get a choice in where we get surgery, but if you have a procedure here and you're nervous, rest assured that you are in good hands. You will be treated with respect and empathy and you will be safe and comfortable.

The expense should've been covered under personal injury protection via my provider, I sent the bill to my PIP examiner, explained the situation to one of the reps at McKenzie Medical Imaging and told them they would have to send my chart to the PIP examiner, which never happened, and despite explaining the situation and the ball being in their court, they sent my bill to collections. So now, not only has this accident impacted my health and my career, it's now impacted my credit. These people don't care about circumstances or legal process--they just want their money. Go anywhere but here for your medical imaging.
