It's a big Restore and has a lot of stuff but a lot is overpriced. They sold a used waffle maker for $25 that retails new for $20. I've been to several Restores on the east coast and this was the priciest. read more

Man, this place was a lifesaver. I had been looking for an item to put in my apartment since I was still sparse on furniture. Mostly items that I will end up using again, and again. I had been in need of something to use as a tv stand, stand-in in my living room space. I was using an end table for the time being and I knew that wouldn't cut it in the long run. I had stopped here previously and saw an item I thought would have been perfect. But, with it being so large, and me being only me, I wouldn't be able to move this unless I had some help. With a call out to family, I knew I would still be too late for that item. See, the one thing I do not like about these places is that if you purchase, you have a set amount of time to pick it up and take it home. I know I would not be able to secure that item. But, when the cavalry arrived, I was set to go here and make a purchase, even if it wasn't for the item I was hoping for. I am kind of glad that I didn't get that item, because looking back now, it would not have fit in my apartment in the least. I am happy with the two items that I did end up purchasing. For less than $40 I came home with two items, even if I did have to make two trips. I came on a good day here. One thing to keep in mind is check out what tags are discounted even more. One tag will be 75% off and others will be about 40% off. I can confirm that the prices here are outrageous. If it wasn't for the discounted pricing that day, I would have spent close to $250. I did get a deep discount, but if I would have come another day, it would have been a different story. Biggest complaint here, is that when they receive new, unopened items, they really do overprice them. They really go out of their way to make it unobtainable just to keep you coming back. read more

I dropped off some blinds and light fixtures here and the donation process was very straightforward. I stopped in to shop and there was a variety of products of differing quality and age. Of course, for those who enjoy thrifting, it's fun to hunt for treasure! The cabinets section is fantastic and has great deals on both newer cabinets and older ones needing a bit of TLC. Generally ranging from $30-60 per unit. I picked up a small creamer and statue of the dollar rack and was pleasantly surprised that it was 25% off! read more

I am a fan of rhe Habitat ReStores. Great place to donate household items and find hidden gems. This location is the newest one in Montgomery county. They have quite a bit on display. Yes, some items may be scratched or dented but it is nothing a little TLC can't fix. Proceeds go to Habitat for Humanity. All donations are tax deductible. Worth checking the store out. read more

Wow. This review is solely for the ladies in the donation receiving staff. It would have been pleasant for the staff member to open the door to allow me in during 20 mph cold wind gusts opposed to making me stand outside the front door awning while she stood in the separate opened garage loading door. I would recommend to acknowledge a customer or donor with a hello opposed to "what do you have", and say nothing else to them. Wow, not even a thank you! read more

This place is just okay. Finding the front door is not intuitive (on the far right side of a big what looks like an office building). My rating is primarily for the prices---some items are ridiculously overpriced for what they are (used, worn, damaged). There are color-coded tags for percent-off discounted items and other types of discounts. They were willing to haggle the price of one piece of furniture but it was still too much. You're better off getting something comparable on Amazon or Facebook Marketplace. There isn't much inventory when we went but that is subjective by day and what they get in. The staff were overall friendly and helpful. We probably would not come back. read more

My mother has been looking for a place that sold furniture at a thrifty price. We never knew this place was located 5 minutes from where we lived. We came here two weeks ago and they were having a 40% sale. It may not have been busy but everything was sold out. The prices were reasonable, I have seen complaints that the prices were too high. Based on the places I have been to, another thirft store in capital heights, their prices were about the same. They have a front end full of living room material and furniture and you can walk into the back which basically looks like a warehouse. There are kitchen material, office materials, hotel chairs, and bedroom storage. They also have restrooms located on the right side of the warehouse in the front. The employees were instructing me in the sales and many were helping other customers load their stuff in the truck. There was a sign on the door that said that customers did the loading themselves, but it was nice to know that even if that was a rule customer service was most important. The only minus was the space was small and seemed that their were limited things in display. read more

It's dirty and dingy. I love going to thrift stores in my spare time but every time I go into this store I feel like I'm in a store in a third world county. They could take lessons from Salvation Army or goodwill. Just because the store is in a Factory doesn't mean it has to feel like one. Anyway the prices are way to high for such shabby 2nd hand items. These pieces of furniture look like they belong in a dumpster or on a curb. I've shopped at habitat restore years back and still own furniture from the one in NJ but I don't think I can ever purchase anything at this one in Silver Spring. The prices need to equal the condition that the furniture is currently in. read more

I love this store, I happen to think you buy, buy and buy and end up thoroughgoing useful thing in the trash . This store is a perfect example of our spending habits. Looking around they have items that have never been open. In the front it looks like a furniture store, but it is so much more. Everything is arrange so neatly they give a lot of thought to presentation. Every thing is arrange categorically. For people just starting out on their own in life this would be the perfect place. Also the staff was so friendly and helpful. If you are into recycling and against waste this is the place to go. I would not suggest donating here. For the past 10 years, I have made every attempt to donate high-quality materials as well as my time to this organization. I have consistently gotten poor information about hours of operation, etc. resulting in me, wasting my time only to find a closed door. Meanwhile, Goodwill and A Wider Circle have accepted all of my weekly quality donations. Such a bummer as they are reputed to do good work. read more

Not only have I dropped off items here, but i've shopped here. I can tell you that I've donated brand new $200 purses, designer clothes and brand name furniture. Given that's what I've dropped off, there is a LOT more than that inside. A second hand store is only as good as its kept up and sometimes it's better than others. The people are pretty nice here and everything is going towards a good cause. read more

It might be a great cause, but making a donation to the Plum Orchard Location is the pits. 4 men silently standing around on the receiving dock and not one of them would jump down to help an old lady lift boxes up onto the dock...Not one "thank you" was offered. So the exterior of the store is nice and inviting. Once you walk in though all of that changes. They have a shopping cart filled up with junk art. I assume they get all of this stuff for free. There was a dirty white recliner in there for $600.00. $3,000 for a piano. $60 for a microwave with a broken door. The people that are buying this junk probably don't live in mansions or drive BMS's etc. A lot of the stuff here has priced out lower income people. Walked in and then right back out. read more

I stop by here often. They've got new stuff in all the time, and I never know what I'll find that I've just got to have. When I got a new house, I got hand tools here, a couple with every visit, at low prices, Which is great because I don't want to spend a lot for tools I'll hardly use. I got long handled gizmos like a rake, too. I've bought some good solid wood end tables that I had other uses for --but they're doing a great job. The last time I was there, I got the thing you put on the wall to hold the long handled tools and another small item. All the prices are great, and they always have things on sale. This store always has tons of furniture: Tables, sofa, chairs, bookcases, wardrobes, yada yada. Also there's always kitchen cabinets, lots of art work, and who knows what surprises of the week. read more

Like the store, completely support the intention (reclaimed materials, upcycling, etc.), but cannot for the life of me figure out the pricing. Right now they are selling electrical outlet covers for $3.50 each. They are aluminum or some painted metal, but no matter how environmentally conscious someone is, why would they buy a used cover for $3.50 when they can go get a new plastic one at Big Orange for $0.50? Same is true for these painted pots I saw there: exact same price as H.D. but used and not as nice. SS Re-Store: You do want people to buy your stuff, right? Update: I've noticed better pricing since this review so maybe someone heard me. I've also been shopping their sales, where you can get things for reasonable prices. This is one of the newer Habitat Restore locations in the MD area. The store was very clean and well organized. Staff was very helpful. The prices on some of the newer furniture are a bit high, but they always seem to have very good sales frequently and will make a deal if an item has been sitting around for awhile. Check back often if you're looking for something specific as inventory is very fluid. I often check-in to find something for my latest reuse and repurpose projects. You never know what might turn up! We've also used them as a drop off for our own architectural salvage items that we didn't want to end up in a landfill. It was very easy and convenient. Staff was helpful unloading the car. You can also arrange for a pick-up at your house if you need to, but just drop it off yourself and head inside to find more good stuff! read more

We have been to pretty much all of the ReStores in the DMV area, and this is probably one of the better ones. The staff is very friendly and helpful, plus they always have a sale going on. This is probably our third visit to this location and today all of the white stickers were 40% off. Each time we have been they have had a few free pieces of furniture, usually an end table or something but this time they had a table and a nice China cabinet as well, perfect for someone getting started in a home. This location had a ton of great couches, and if you can catch them on a tag sale they are very, very cheap. I would also say that the dining table and lamp selection are the best at this location, but their rug selection was extremely limited and nothing compared to the other stores. If you need a brand new, really nice rug, go to the Columbia store we got one there for $60. Also, if you're into pianos they had six of them, although they all probably needed a little work. All in all this is a fun place to browse when you're in town! read more

This place is my jam! I've found some really priceless items here for next to nothing! The staff is friendly, helpful and thoughtful. They remembered me the next time I came back, not sure if its because I show up all the time or they just have great memory. Either way, this is where to go for your eclectic items shopping! They have great stuff for a great cause, but the staff is very rude. Pretty much every time I go in, I get yelled at for something I didn't know was wrong or I hear someone else getting yelled at. I saw one staff member today be VERY nasty to a volunteer, one of whom was from the ARC! It makes it very uncomfortable to shop there. read more

The staff were helpful at the rear when I went to donate items. They gave me a written receipt. Inside, the store seemed well organised and everything had a price on it. The only complaint is that most of the items seemed overpriced considering they were out-dated and used. One employee advised coming back on the days when they have bigger discounts but who has time to remember those days and fit it in your schedule? read more

I was so excited when Habitat for Humanity opened a Restore in Silver Spring - I am always on the lookout for a great deal and hate buying retail. It's nice to have another option for shopping for home decor and furniture. But my favorite part of the store is the building supplies. I was able to purchase several sheets of plywood, already cut to size, at a fraction of the cost to install on my attic floor. You'll find a large selection of small and large appliances, tools, lamps, rugs and full sets of kitchen cabinetry. They offer a wide range of prices. I bought a brand new Pottery Barn oversized chair with a removable cover for my living room for a fraction of what those chairs cost; which I sold a year later on Craigslist for twice the amount. Of course, with these types of stores, it's all in the timing. You have to look out for sales (check the web site for upcoming sales) and come back frequently for a look see. I support the intention of Restores, but was not pleased with the customer service at the Silver Spring store. Paid for a stove, saw a better stove on back aisle after paying. Immediately went to store cashier to request an exchange, but just needed to ensure size worked. She said no problem an exchange could be made. A couple comes in and looks at the same stove, Heather (store manager) helps customer with info on the same stove, then states to me another couple is interested in the stove and if for any reason there is a problem with the size she would not exchange nor refund. I said it sounds like you want to sell to the other couple even though I had first bids and the store had agreed to exchange. Heather replied it shouldn't take 30 minutes to make a decision on a stove, which was completely insulting to me as a customer. I said I don't have to be insulted, please refund my money and sell the stove to the couple you wish to have it. She happily agreed to refund the same amount of money to sell to another. Not a good experience or good service. I decided to purchase a new stove where I'd receive better customer service, no insults, and a good quality product. The store truly represents a good cause but sometimes, you do truly get what you pay for! I will still support the Restores but definitely not this location. They are nicer in Virginia. read more
