    Water park
    Dave H.

This waterpark like every other is out to make that almighty dollar. Don't take water in if it is unsealed. They have water but no way to verify they aren't filling it from the baby pool or not - so.... You can buy almost anything while you are here but it's gonna cost you. In this economy you would think they would be helping those of us that paid over $100 for an adult and 2 children by letting us take drinks and some snacks in but no...I really can't recommend this or any entertainment with the way the economy is. Need the money to live.

First impression... clean, nice and plenty of space! My babe decided the family should take a mini road trip to this waterpark that's about 75 minutes away from home. The drive from Chesapeake was great...traffic was minimal. But be mindful if you take the toll route... it's pretty pricey. However, if you have an ezpass you're covered (assuming you have loaded money on your pass). There is a bypass to avoid the tolls, but I am unsure of the route. We arrived to the park about 11 am a few Saturdays ago. To my surprise, the parking lot was pretty much empty. But a good thing... no real wait in line. However, we purchased the four pack of passes online a few days before the trip. The advance purchase saves you a few dollars and it's totally worth it if you are traveling with four people. We knew it would be a hot Saturday so we also purchased a cabana to stay in the shade... such a great decision! The cabana prices vary as well as the perks. Our cabana was pretty much on the back side of the park. Where we were positioned, I could see the cars coming and leaving the park. Keep in mind bushes are nearby this area as well, so the bugs clearly made it known we were in their territory. We enjoyed the park from arrival to departure... we stayed until the park closed. Not once did the girls (12 year old) complain about their experience at the park. They had a great time and because of such a great time, they wanted to stay until the park closed. At the park, family rides (2+ people) and individual rides. Our attendant (at the cabana) advised Saturdays are hit or miss as far as attendance. I believe this Saturday in particular less than 1000 were present... from the looks of it, we couldn't tell. The park is spacious and so clean, we cannot wait to return and hopefully the crowd is the same. We may have waited up to 5 minutes to get on the rides. The kiddie area was populated, but not overcrowded. The wave pool too was populated, but not overcrowded. My only side eye is the food offered by the park itself... everything is prepackaged and not made to order. However, there are a few other spots to order food from and they do offer made to order items. Dippin dots ice cream is on location. Beer and wine is served... sangria too. Now liquor... I did not spot that anywhere. Would I recommend this waterpark... absolutely!! Pay ahead of time to save... plan to stay the entire day!! Bring your own towels... outside food is not allowed... a water bottle per person is allowed. Music can be ahead throughout the park too! Have fun and enjoy life :)

1st off...this place looks awesome but its $50/tix and for large family vacations seems outrageous. We did visit due to 2 free tickets included in our rental in OBX.... but there were 11 in our family group which is some $$$$$ for an afternoon at a park.. We got there just before noon on a Saturday. Parking lot wasn't overly crowded and entering the water park was simple. They do a pretty quick bag check and then you enter the alleyway of Gift Shop/Foods You Need before hitting the park. It's not too much but it sets the tone. Most of the regular lounge chairs were already taken by the time we walked into the park. And while it appears you can rent some private space/cabana ($$$), we lucked into 2 loungers near the wave pool. There are lockers available to hold your valuables...at $15-$20/pop....more $$$ Once settled into our spot, we looked around....and there were lines everywhere. Lines for all the slides, lines for the food, lines for the bathrooms. And more people coming into the park every moment. Also, we felt we couldn't both go wait in line for a slide because our stuff would be left alone. So we took turns, which wasn't nearly as much fun. There are lots of life guards working, which is important to share. And every time the wave pool started, they all stand and watch the crowd. The food smelled good but we didn't try anything. There were tons of people walking around with reusable logoed cups ($$). Overall, we spent 2 hours here. We did the lazy river and the wave pool. I am so glad we didn't bring the whole family. It would have been a nightmare.

Ask the Community - H2OBX Waterpark

Is this suitable for 3 and 4 yr olds?

Yes! There is a great kid centric area close to the main entrance. Plus there are child sized lifejackets around the park. The food options are all kid friendly and check out the taco truck for cheese quesadillas.

Is there a day of the week that tends to be less busy?

Monday and Tuesday tend to be the least busy.

There is one nice wide family slide for everyone. There is one super steep one that my six year old braved successfully. The last two are like a twisty open one and then a twisty closed tube style. No life jackets are allowed on the slides but the lifeguards literally stand there and catch your kids and take them back to the side to get out and go again. I was there by myself outnumbered and nervous about my nonswimming kids and no life jackets but quickly relaxed and realized my kids were safe and having the time of their lives. The lifeguards were happy to pass my kids to me but also totally fine if I got out to go do the family slide with one of them if needed. That's always the tricky part of being outnumbered by kids - when the pack wants to split up and I can't be two places at once. Anyway the snack bar food was pretty terrible but pizza was alright. You can bring in a cooler though. Next time I'll pack a full picnic for everyone. They do a lot of adult swims so the lifeguards can rotate but that gives everyone a chance to grab a snack and potty and also gave us a nice window to exit. The pool temp was fantastic and the water was clean. It's a government facility so there's some stuff that could use an upgrade naturally but for $10 a person I was impressed!

Other than that small detail (I had to stop at a reenlistment picnic to ask someone for directions), it is a smash hit and we love it! I am only bummed we didn't know about it last summer! Admission is $6 for active duty, retirees, reservists, & eligible family members, $8 for guests (up to 2 guests per adult w/ ID), kids 3 and under are free. Season passes are based on the number of people in your family... 1= $60, 2= $110, 3= $135, 4= $170, 5= $200, 6= $225 Despite the website's direction that no outside food is allowed and you must purchase food from concessions, *EVERYONE* brings a cooler with lunch in it. So, pack away and save yourself a fortune in concession stand prices. This is a clean and well-maintained facility, for sure. They offer pavilion rental and swimming lessons, which is great! One thing you'll want to warn your kids about ahead of time is "adult swim time" which is a 15 minute break for the kids from the pool they allows the adults to enjoy the facilities (and helps prevent sun-poisoned, exhausted kids)... my kids were upset because adult swim happened 10 mins after we arrived. Oops! There is plenty of seating and it's not so crazy (or wasn't today) that there are long lines... if you get here in time to snag a table, you'll have shade under an umbrella, but annoyingly, people fill the tables with their stuff (even though they aren't sitting there) and you'll be left without shade unless you plan ahead. The snack bar is an array of popsicles, string cheese, burgers, and preservative-packed packaged food that will run you between $0.50 and $5.00 per item. Not terrible on price, really, but far from health-friendly. Better than nothing! For $6/$8 per person, it's a great time. Pack a lunch to save more money, bring as many friends as you can fit in your car. We will be back!

If you're not DoD, you can either seek a commission, enlist, or make friends with a serviceman, then pay the visitor rate. This is more of a mini water park than a pool. There are three legit big kid slides, and four other little kid slides. There's also a gator bridge with an overhead net. There are lots of tables in the shade, either umbrellas or an overhead cover. There's a snack bar with some healthy options. There's also a fenced off splash pad for toddlers. There isn't really anywhere to swim that's more than 4 feet deep. There is a deep pool, but it serves as the splash down for the tube slide. There are plenty of lifeguards. They would do better to spend less time socializing/flirting with each other and more time watching the water, but the kid to mom ratio was about 2:1, so there was adequate supervision. One girl was actually turned 90 degrees in her chair, to face her friend rather than the pool. As a former lifeguard I found that appalling, but again, every little kid was pretty much under direct supervision of his or her parents anyway. They don't allow pool toys or water wings, but do have nice life vests for kids to use for free. They don't allow outside food or drinks, but the place is run by teenagers who don't care to shake down customers, so we had no problem bringing in snacks and drinks. Overall, for $6 per person, it was well worth it. Thanks for the good time, MWR!

You must be military personnel, family, or in my case a sanctioned event where your invited. First the adventure pool area is in the newer section of the building. It features a 30 ft, 146 ft long triple loop slide. There is also a shallow end for toddlers with a maximum depth of 3.5 ft. This area by far is the best thing about the center. Minimal parking is located in front of the building. During an event it is quickly overwhelmed and over flow parking that is not too far away must be utilized. The competition pool is located in the older section and dates back to possibly the late 50's and looks its age. The competition pool is 11 lanes and 25 yards in length. It feature a balcony that holds 450-500 spectators to view swimming meets. Often the spectators are over heated even in the middle of winter. The balcony is not a place that I would ever want to be, it's down right miserable. The pool is a FAST due to it's size and depth. My 10 year old son got his first SCY record for his club in this pool swimming the 100 yard Butterfly as an 8 year old. The largest swim meet of the year held at the facility is the SEVA 12&U Christmas Champs. Around 800+ swimmers from around Virginia attend the Prelim/Finals format meet. It is considered a mid season short course championship and tune up to Age Group Champs held in March. The Aquatic center has locker rooms, showers and private changing areas for men and women. The building also has a multi purpose room and concessions. When the pool is not in use it is open for active military to utilize for laps. Swimming lessons are also offered for both children and adults. The center can also be used for birthday parties. Everything about the place except for the adventure area is old, old old. The pool serves the military community as well the swimming community who hold meets. The adventure area is great for families to enjoy. However, with the age and obvious maintenance issues in the competition pool area a three for this review is probably a stretch.
