I love H-mart, they've got the best kimchi selection I've been able to find here in Michigan. They always keep the store well stocked and the employees are always kind and courteous. I've never had a bad experience here. This H-Mart was smaller than the ones I'm used to in the NY/NJ area, but it did it's job. We got everything that we needed and then some. My main goal was to buy some ingredients to make kimbap and ddukbokki. BF wanted Milkis and Vita items. They also have a very decent Chinese/Japanese variety - their frozen dumpling section is VERY extensive. Produce was fresh and even had items we couldn't find at the local supermarket in Dearborn. I do wish their prepared foods section was better - in NYC H-Marts there were prepacked japchae, kimbap, mandu, and chapssaltteok. I really wanted some japchae. They did have a really good daifuku selection through. read more

Pretty cool store. I was going to Aldi next door to pick up some essentials, and we decided to stop in here beforehand, to browse. They have a large selection of vegetables, meats, and snacks. I'm all about the snacks. On our way out, we saw that they had honey butter potato chips, which were pretty exciting because previously we had ordered a bag off eBay from Singapore. They are very hard to find in the United States, or so I thought, and a large-ish bag was $2, on sale. They have a little cafe area too that I'd like to try at some point. Overall, interesting selection of foods and I will be back soon. read more

Their little food court is so good! I've been coming here for years to get a quick and cheap bite to eat! Their jjompong is great! The soup is rather spicy but the noodles are perfectly cooked and there's a good assortment of seafood and veggies. The jajanmyeon is another favorite! The black bean sauce is fantastic! I don't recommend the large one with assorted seafood though, it tastes like the kind you get from the packets on the shelf. I also love the sweet and sour pork and fried dumplings! H Mart has everything you could want for any Asian dish. They have good quality sake (which can be hard to find in the US). There is a whole aisle full of instant noodles (my personal favorite). Plenty of selection, including rice cookers and small appliances. They have a seafood counter for fresh fish. My favorite part is the food court. No grocery shopping trip is complete for me without a dolsot bibimbap. H Mart is a bit of a trek for me and can get very busy on the weekend. But it's worth it if you're looking for the best quality Asian ingredients or a yummy, quick meal. read more

This is fairly new for a Korean market because there is Hanmi where it is a good small stop by Korean market where you pick up what you need. HMart recently came through and even extended their market to a really big and various types within this one market. There is now utensils, makeup, medicine, and even a food court. However, the quality is over the top. The food court has amazing authentic Korean food! I love getting Korean snacks and mochi ice cream. One thing is that it is always cold there so bring your coats. They need to sell bubble tea now! Tip: you do not have to be Korean a lot of non-Koreans come to try what Hmart has to offer your taste buds. REALLY GOOD SALES :) read more

We come to the store a few times a year. Really like the meat department the selection is vast. We go there for the thin sliced wagyu beef . The beef is always sliced real thin and the marbling on the meat is perfect. The vegetable selection is really good. Always really fresh. Like the bok Choi and the long green onions my two faves. It's always so cold in this place! Like it might of been a tad warmer outside than in. Anyways, stopped in looking for Sujeonggwa. No dice! Sujeonggwa is a cinnamon punch that is given after eating Korean bbq. Actually when asked about the punch to anyone within the store they had no clue what it was which makes me sad. Ok, back to lunch. I walked in at 12:15 on a Monday and thought I should probably go eat real quick before the offices around here let out for lunch. Good thing I did because it got so busy. I got just basic ramen. It's literally from the package. It was ok, not good but ok. It really tasted like those plastic packages of ramen you can get from any grocer. I think the only difference is they add a bit of egg on top and a few stray veggies. It also came with spicy kimchi and some kind of very yellow fruit. Oh, and a small bowl of sticky white rice. (WARNING: Be cautious in the parking lot. I am not sure if it is the design or the customers but every time I go to an H mart I can only manage to park after eeking by two or three close calls. Double, triple check when backing out and slow to a crawl when coming around a corner.) Although I am very glad there is a dedicated Korean supermarket in the area, it doesn't have some of the bells and whistles at the prices I am accustomed to seeing in other more populous cities. It is what it is.. besides, they have makgeolli! That alone will drive me to make the trip. It is a little crowded so watch yourself and your cart, lest you bump into a fellow shopper. Especially with COVID restrictions (ie. one-way aisles that not everyone pays attention to) there isn't a lot of extra space to browse. Luckily I already know the most important items to buy that will be difficult to get elsewhere! Concentrate on specific produce like those giant Korean pears, young radish, specialty mushrooms, silken tofu (in the tube), and all those lovely greens. Move on to pantry items like barley malt, fermented soy flour, and soy sauces. You should not leave the frozen section without grabbing at least one bag of dumplings for that night when you have no idea what to make for dinner. And of course a couple bottles of soju and rice wine. My one gripe is not the size or space but the fact that their ready-made offerings are really lacking and overpriced. I always got a block of acorn jelly whenever I went to H mart in California, but all they had here was a third of the amount already cut up and packaged with a cup of the sauce for the same price. The variety of other prepared banchan is limited as well, and only a handful were vegetarian-friendly. That complaint aside, this place is far and above the most indispensable store for Korean products in the area. Everything is labeled in English and the staff is approachable so don't be afraid to visit if you don't understand the language. read more

Yes please and thank you. You would not believe how excited I was to see an HMart in the area when I got to Michigan. Growing up in California, there was never a lack of any type of foreign store or food -- Korean, Japanese, Mexican, Filipino -- you name it, it was there. One of the hardest things about coming to Michigan for me was the insane amount of culture shock I experienced. Ask any of my classmates how much I complain about missing food from home or how I cried one night because I wanted random Asian snack or food and couldn't seem to find a place where I could get some. HMart definitely helped solve some of my woes and wounds from culture shock. I was running up and down the aisles, grabbing ramen, drinks, chips, candy, coffee...it was like a little haven for me and my burger-saturated taste buds. The place is very clean and, though not as big as the stores in California, still very mighty. I couldn't complain about the snacks I found, which happily keep me sane until I am able to get back to SoCal. The only reason that I am deducting 1 star was because I was not very pleased with the social distancing and rules of the store. There were no stickers or guides to enforce distancing and nobody seemed to do it on their own accord. It made me a little uncomfortable in line and I feel that these might need to be set up if people are unwilling to distance on their own. Otherwise, it'd be a perfect 5 stars from me. I'll be back eventually for a snack haul, but probably with an N95 until this all blows over. read more

Let me tell you how excited I was to find out that there was an Hmart in MI. Squealing-down-the-aisles-chattering-to-my-boyfriend-about-the-selection-excited: *have you SEEN a ramen aisle like this?! Nonnadat top ramen *here's the beautiful selection of high end rice cookers *look at all the great marinated KBBQ options!!! *like any great Asian market, you can also buy plates, bowls, chopsticks!! I was like a chipmunk on 2x fast forward. My love affair with Hmart began in Orange County, CA where I attended undergrad. Fast forward almost a decade, Hmart opened in Arcadia, CA near where I grew up. On opening day, there was a line around the building/block for this Hmart that took over a Ralph's (think how large a Kroger is...that size!). So, this Hmart is a little smaller than I'm used to...but still mighty. Produce section has the best of east and west from dragon fruit to baby bananas to Korean pears to Spanish onions. I love that they have affordable shabu shabu/hot pot meat as well. We also went to the cooler to pick up some japchae (Korean glass noodle) and Bibimbap veggies to take & make at home for lunch. The goodies available at this little corner of E-Mart are all the favorites you'd get from a Kimbap Chongguk. Fried mandu (dumplings) and haemul pajeon (seafood pancakes) and bibimbap, oh my! I planned my day horribly wrong, so my stomach was stuffed full on Happy's Pizza upon arrival (I know, right? what was I thinking?), but I managed to slurp down some seriously delish dduk boki. I don't know how those Koreans do it, but man.. those smooth, soft cylindrical rice cakes that hit just right on the chewiness factor, slathered in spicy red gochujang sauce and garnished with green onions, odeng (fishcake) and a hard-boiled egg... //inject dduk boki into veins// Patrons at the plastic patio tables next to ours had ordered the calguksu and bulgogi dopbap, which looked phenom. Such big portions, and for that price!!! This may be the best deal for K-food staples in the metro area. For realz. Place your order at the counter, grab a beverage out of the cooler next to the register, and wait 'til they shout out your meal. (Disclaimer: I am a K-food aaadddddddddiicctt. I can't help myself. After going to another Korean market in Michigan I think this place deserves 5 stars. The place is pretty big even bigger than my usual Chinese market. It is really well lit, clean, and you can actually do the majority of your shopping here. They have a lot of fresh produce! Holy cow! I also love their seafood department, including a wide variety of fish balls. Banchan galore! They also have marinated meats. Before you buy their soups please check the expiration date! I was going to get one and it was going to expire the next day. They also have a boat load of frozen items. Also have a lot of non-Korean food. There is also a little eatery inside. Only been here once and had quite fine dolsot bi bim bop. Lots of varied and very fresh vegetables. Perfectly cooked egg and beef. In the "bi bim bop sauce" had a vibrant red color. I could get lost in the aisles in this place for hours checking out all of the strange and intriguing items on their shelves since they expanded. They have everything you could possibly need to make most Asian dishes and definitely any Korean dish. Their produce is neat, clean and organized. I come here with dishes in mind and am left with nothing remaining open on my grocery list. I get my regular staples of noodles, seaweed, gochujang, kokuho rose rice bags, sesame oil and whatever condiment I need for my daily eats. I still prefer the freshly made kimchi from Kagopa, their recipe is the bomb, but this place is great for everything else I need. read more

Stopped for a work lunch, very pleasantly surprised at the selection in the market side. It's great to have another Asian market resource close by. The attached restaurant is oriented to lunches and dinners. They had a seasonal short rib soup with glass noodles, so I ordered that and an order of fried mandoo. The order came with rice and the kinds of banchan. It really hit the spot, and I had enough to take home leftovers. Total for both orders came out to a little more than $20, but the mandoo order was pretty big (12 pc). As the cold weather descends on Michigan in the winter, I look forward to checking out their spicy short rib soup! Will repeat and recommend! read more

The more time I spend in this state, the more I'm tempted to transfer universities and go back to Texas. This says a lot about the offerings this state has considering how I am graduating college next semester. The hmart was very tiny compared to the hmart near my house in Texas. The worst crime of them all was that there was no food court. What in the absolute world? I have never been to an hmart without a food court, more or less any Asian supermarket without a food court. Absolutely unacceptable. Also, the restaurants in the plaza were mediocre. Usually, the restaurants in the shopping plaza are really good but it was not the case for this hmart. The restaurants in the food court are also really good. Oh wait, I forgot this hmart doesn't have a food court. The entire experience was so confusing. This hmart also did not have their in-house kitchen that makes prepared foods. There was no japchae... The prepared foods section was 1/2 aisle that consisted of prepared foods from a local Korean eatery. I have never been to a hmart that doesn't have an in-house kitchen that makes its own prepared foods. I can't believe people drive 2 hours to visit this place. You're better off buying a flight ticket to Korea and buying the food there, as this hmart does not deserve to be called a Korean supermarket. The only reason I am giving this hmart 2 stars is because their soju selection is very good. They have passionfruit, blueberry, mangosteen, and peach flavored soju, which I have not seen anywhere else. They also have cases of soju, so you know where I will be going for my 21st birthday. Well, just for the soju. Not for the nonexistent food court and minimal grocery offerings. I think I spent more time admiring the soju selection than I did picking out my groceries, because there was nothing to pick from. read more

First of all let me keep it real. The food is not great even at the low $7-8 prices. We had the seafood pancake (okanomayaki) and it was dry, dense, not crispy, a little tough. And bibimbap was bland, not much beef, rice not good. Overall not impressive even for a cheap food court format. You will spend the same and have much better food at places like Noble Fish, Korea Palace. Market is ok by Kroger standards, not that clean. Hard to trust the produce quality. read more

My favorite Asian market, even if the live flounder do scare me teeheehee. Their selection is unbelievable. Seafood, meats, produce...especially the produce! Noodles galore, tea, sake, spices, hot sauce...and all the things that I don't even know what they are! It's taken me a while to get around to posting this review, but I have been back to H Mart recently and things do not seem like they have changed. The quality of their "fresh" produce and meats are horrendous. On one occasion, I was looking to buy squid and was disgusted to find that it had mold all over it inside of the package! According to the label, it had not yet been past the sell by date either. That is concerning and makes me wonder whether or not they package old product with false labels to sell bad food past their expiration date. When I've gone to buy fruits, there are always several that have rotted and literal fruit flies flying around the produce section. Unfortunately, this is the closest asian grocery store near me, so I will probably continue to shop for certain items (non perishables), but I will never ever trust any of their "fresh" foods. read more

I've only been to this store a couple of times and found what I needed for the dishes I do prepare each time. The store is clean and the stock people were busy refilling the shelves in so many aisles for the week end. The staff is happy to assist when you can't find an item or have a question. The meat and seafood was fresh and picture perfect! My only negative comment is that the meat selections were a bit pricey, and I also favor "Excellent" brand rice noodles but they don't stock that variety. Do go there for any special Asian item you may need and if this is your entrée of choice, you won't be disappointed! I wish I could take along a friend with expertise in all the choices and stock items. read more

What do you do when you're preggers and craving Korean food? Well Hmart of course. Duh. I decided to go after lunch rush at 1.15pm. There was a short line which gave me time to gather time and courage to decide what I wanted. Bibimbap or Bulgogi we're my two front runners. This little critter inside of me voted for the Bulgogi and I had to oblige. The wait was about 15 -20 mins for food. Boy oh baby was it worth it. Eat meal comes with soup, kimchi (Yaaas) and a pickled veggie. The meat was seasoned perfectly, sweet and tender pieces of beef made me giggle with delight. Let's talk about their food court. This was my second visit and it was definitely better than my first visit. The Kalbi Tang (short rib soup) was the champ with a tasty broth and meat that just slid off the bones. This and some pho will definitely get me through the winter. I also had the #6 Spicy Squid. Another hit and I loved the smoky flavor in the dish. I was going to take pictures of both, but I didn't come up for air. After a frenzy of alternating flying chopsticks (right hand) and spoon (left hand), I was ready to stop, but my friend insisted on a third dish. I tried to resist, but she knows how to get her way. We shared the #8 Pork Katsu and it was perfectly crispy. I felt strangely content after, so I'm wondering just how much MSG I consumed. read more

If you need a fresh fish, any seafood type, or anything to make sushi - this is a place for you. I usually buy frozen or fresh calamari, dry fish and dry calamari, seaweed, rice noodle, and miso soups. We used to buy Kimchi at Costco but this store has so many different types of it! Prices for fresh veggies are cheaper than at Kroger or Costco. There are different variations of fresh and marinated meat, chicken, and fish. I didn't buy alcohol here but I think they sell beer there. There are also household items and foreign unique things. Because I love those types of stores, on my first visit I spent more that an hour to check everything they had here. The only thing is it is pricey! Vegetables are cheaper but you will spend much more money on other staff. read more
