Super clean and staff was friendly - literally the only place to have all the registers open. Please be aware older employees do work at the register so just have a little patience and be kind. They have a lot of vegan items as well which can be pretty difficult to find maybe except for at a whole foods, but the values here are very good. Probably the only thing I don't like is when you can save extra money by buying five items, sometimes a quick visit can end up being 30 minutes trying to find those other for items :-) read more

This Kroger is just... meh :-\ ALWAYS seem to be out of a lot and theres a couple of people on the staff that aren't that great. If you come in at 9:30pm, they glare at you and most will start telling you that they close at 10. I get it, but I know you close at 10. I'll be gone in 15 minutes or less, no need to reprimand me for coming in 30 minutes to close. It's not like I can control when I get out of work. Never experience this at Kroger on 12 and Coolidge. I wish the Kroger at 13 and Woodward was still there since it's closer to my house/work and I don't think Woodward Corners is worth the extra prices compared to what they charge at Meijer. read more

This Kroger isn't close to me but I tried it because I'm disappointed with closer ones. It's pretty good as Krogers go. - It has a well-arranged produce section with many tables. The produce looked uniformly good. - It has the usual bakery, deli, and fresh meals counters as well as a Murray's cheese shop (not found in every Kroger). It even had cheese samples out, which is very unusual. - There were more items in stock than at my local Krogers (yes!). - The often-irritating Kroger background music is blissfully toned down. I heard another shopper say that not all Krogers are this nice, which is true. While it can't escape the middlebrow nature driven by corporate (would that Wegmans would venture here...), it does well given that. read more

The service here is horrible. When I got there yesterday, and not for the first time there were no carts. I stopped at the customer service desk and asked if there were any somewhere and she said well maybe somebody's out getting some out of the parking lot. I asked two different people Where some product was and was told both times I don't know. Everybody acted like they hate their jobs and everybody that walks into the store. read more

Picked up our usual Sunday stash for lunch during the week. A bit busier since it's a Sunday. I long for our Tuesday shopping days, but haven't been able to make it without grocery until then lately. The cashier and aisles are quite close together at this location. As it gets busy on Sundays the lines can get long and end up blocking the entrance to the aisles by the registers. read more

I love this Kroger, it's my home location but the past 3 trips here I've literally abandoned my cart and walked out due to the foul stench of the meat department. I'm not sure if they're running the temps of their meat coolers too low but my last couple trips made me feel sick to my stomach from the smell. It literally smelled like rotting meat and made me gag. Coolers were full of meat too so it wasn't like their power went out and they were throwing things out. Terrible experience. I had a gift card and NO ONE knew how to use it because there is not a barcode. When I asked about typing it in since it has the 16 digit number, CVV and date on it. They looked confused and said "ummm....they don't let us do that". Seriously Kroger? You don't have anyone that can assist with processing a gift card? Very dissatisfied. read more

The more automated this store becomes the more miserable it is to shop here. The skeleton crew of employees left is rude and overworked. The checkout lanes are always unlit and closed. The system won't let you proceed over a 20 cents coupon without employee approval but there aren't any to be found. An absolute miserable experience and I need to find a new market. read more

I like this store. I better get use to it because Kroger bought Harris Teeter, which is my favorite store for coupon deals to shop at. I love the bakery here. More so, I love La Brea breads. They also have good sales when you use your Kroger card. I just enter my mom's phone number. Plus, the wine! I wish my county allowed beer and wine in grocery stores. It's got the red or white that is right for you. Cheap Moscato for NYE is a must, since no one will notice what it taste like come midnight. It's much easier to get in and out of here than Meijer. My mom alternates her shopping between the two, but I think she's pissed at Meijer right now, because they are going "high tech" by requiring you to upload deals via your computer to your card, or show the deal on your cell phone app. My mom wants none of that. I don't frequent this Kroger because of location, but when I am driving by I like stopping in to this one. Selection is very good as this is a letter Kroger. The person at the balloon counter was great when we came in a few years to get balloons for my daughters birthday, she even let my daughter help. I overheard a couple employees on my last visit talking about the manager and what witch she is. I find this funny and sad, because the poor emplyees that work here have it bad enough, and gen they have to deal with a witch if a manager. If this place has a problem retaining employees, they need to look at management. This place is a grocery store, and management needs to remember this. They need to take suggestions from employees, rather than just putting them in a position that is not best for the employee. Thank you read more

This kroger is very clean. It doesn't have nearly as much as the super Kroger in royal oak does though. The workers are friendly. Every time I go there though there are always a bunch of shopping carts sitting in the parking lot that people left and it's one of my pet peeves. read more

Got here right when they opened. They were one of only three grocery stores open in the area at 6:00 am. I appreciated how staff members were in good spirits, despite the fact it was so early and still dark outside (and I was waiting at the door). Good selection, clean store, and helpful staff members. I especially appreciated the woman who was stationed at the self-checkout/door (a position where I've received subpar customer service at other grocery stores), who helped me set up a Kroger rewards card. read more

I don't like going to Kroger, to be honest. The only reason I give them two stars is because of price, which I'll guess is because they have more buying power. The stores are inconsistent. Not all stores have the same stuff, not all stores have the same paper grocery bags (less well to do neighborhoods don't have bags with handles, for example). They pulled coffee grinders because, as one manager told me, "they keep breaking," at about the same time Costco upgraded theirs for the same reason. Products will suddenly disappear from Krogers. I have lost count of the items that they quit carrying all of a sudden, but are available at other groceries. So, Kroger is not one-stop shopping. I'll go to K cuz it's cheaper and fill in the missing items somewhere else. I wish so much another big chain would come here to give them some competition. Hollywood, more expensive, doesn't count. Whole Foods, Holiday and Westborn are crazy pricey. read more

I use the clicklist service at this location and run in on occasion. This location is well stocked and clean. Everyone I've encountered here is very friendly and helpful. I typically pick up on the days that Fred works. Fred is very personable and quick. All in all, great location. Great as I take one, while waiting workers say they don't go by the number system- wth. At least 15 minutes to get 8 slices of lunch meat. The man that helped us out was so helpful. We had payed for half of our order, but my credit card wasn't working for the other half. We needed those supplies and we didn't know what to do because we had no way of paying for the rest. We stood in the store for 15 minutes trying to figure out a payment method. Gorgeous shiny produce, fresh and well organized....great big organic/health section....really great deals on Kroger brand canned food....they even have a Tim Hortons inside the store! My husband loves having a great cup of coffee while we shop. It's always super clean and well stocked, and they even have a mediterranean bar and freshly-made sushi. Brown rice sushi too! Wow! This one isn't even close to my house but I love it. I drive up there for most of my "big" shopping trips, basically for anything I can't find at Trader Joe's. read more

Only one Kroger between 8 Mile and Maple gets my business and it's this one. It's volumes better than the dismal franchises with unstocked shelves, expired meats and dairy products, rotting produce, and dirty aisles. Shame on the stores in Hazel Park, Royal Oak, and Royal Oak Township/Ferndale for not offering better to their customers. The store is by and large easy to navigate, its giant parking lot more than adequate to find a spot even during rush hour. Birmingham Kroger, I'm looking at you. The wide aisles avoid a claustrophobic feeling as you push a cart. These little details really matter when you're trying to get your weekly shopping trip out of the way without four near misses. I go out of my way to come here because the stock is far superior. They carry a full line of Kroger and Chobani yoghurts instead of just the standard vanilla, strawberry, and strawberry banana. Can you blame me? I'm an immigrant to the US, I have learned to expect 52 varieties of everything. Expiration dates never flirt with last week. I don't have to turn over every cup and scan every bag or tray of meat to make sure the best before isn't the day I am buying the item. Staff does a very good job of rotating stock and checking when something is out, particularly sale items, without giving the tired look or huffy sigh that some places have. Also, give the man or woman who decided to put a little dairy case up front by the checkouts a prize. How often have I gone running back for a half-gallon of milk, eggs or butter? That's good thinking. The produce section still falls flat next to Trader Joe's, Whole Paycheque--err, Foods-- and Western or Westborn Markets. Bagged salads are about the only thing I buy. Otherwise, fruits and veggies are ridiculously expensive. Why pay $2.99 per pepper when you can buy three of them at Meijer on sale or get them straight from a grower at Eastern Market? Seasonal produce is marginally cheaper and they have an organic section if that appeals to you. Fruit and veggies are bruised or just a bit sad, flavourless altogether. That's true for most grocery stores. The checkout area is pretty efficient and they have self-scan (hallelujah!). Definitely take advantage of quiet periods if you can because the registers get backed up. But if you have 3,000 coupons or alcohol, get thee out of the self-scan lanes, please. Side note: apply for a Kroger discount card for savings, as full price on just about anything is jaw-dropping expensive. read more

I feel weird reviewing something as common as Kroger, but then, not all Krogers are created equal. The most frightening Kroger ever is in Ann Arbor, on S. Industrial. This store, however, is a very nice one. Fresh produce, with lots of organic varieties available. They sometimes have samples in the deli/bakery section. I don't usually try the samples, but I was really thankful once for the Private Selection nacho cheese when my blood sugar was low, haha. I also like the organic/health food aisles. You can find some good deals on juice, soy milk, almond milk, etc., and there are quite a few health/beauty products as well. The selection is certainly much smaller than, say, Whole Foods, but the prices are usually better. Checkout lane employees are relatively efficient, although I once got in the lane of an employee who took FOREVER to scan and bag everything. They seemed to be dragging everything out. But despite being so slow, they still took the time to bag my groceries nicely, which I really appreciated (I HATE it when people put spray cleaner in the same bag as produce! Or frozen food with cereal boxes!). Customer service is pretty nice and helpful as well. (EDIT 7/2/2012: Note that the customer service desk's hours are only from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm.) If you bring your own bags, you'll get 5 cents off per bag, but this deduction isn't taken at the self-checkout stations unless you get an employee to key in the code for you. (EDIT 7/2/2012: They stopped doing this a year ago or so, wah.) What I don't like is how packed the store can get during peak hours. The produce section gets really crowded, especially since everyone is pushing oversized, almost Costco-sized shopping carts, and the produce specials disappear fast. The lines at the checkout lanes also get really crowded, especially since there isn't very much room to maneuver. Going during non-peak hours is much better. Also, the cereal aisle is annoying because it has random columns in the middle of it. read more

Did an online order for pickup. Pickup time was 8pm which was ok because I had to attend a birthday party an hour and a half away. I was in my way to pick up the order but was still a hour away when they called me to pickup the order 1 1/2 hour earlier because they were closing at 6:30 because they were short staffed which I get because no one wants to work. Even though the manager could have waited till everyone picked up their order. I could not get there in that short notice. They could have still locked the store and still waited till everyone picked up their order since they bring it out to you. How disappointing. As always poor customer service.
