One of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. Their power went out and they kicked everyone out like it was a dive bar at 2:15am. We spent an hour shopping, checked out, and their power went out before we could pay. They said, "this happens all of the time, it's not gonna come back on!" Oh really? You know that for a fact?! So instead of letting us wait 15 minutes to see if it would come back on... They forced us to empty our bags and abandon our groceries. They were extremely rude about it too... "Get out!" Hey, to whomever owns this place, you're ignorant. Get a generator. And a clue. Also, hire a new staff. One that knows how to deal with situations in a professional and courteous manner. You have to remember that Aldi's is not a high end, gourmet supermarket with a deli and fancy pre-made meals. What they are is a place to get organic produce, meat and dairy at really reasonable prices. I come here quite a bit because the produce is always good, they have all the basic staples, the meat is fresh and also organic, if that's what you want. They also have a pretty good selection of spices. Aldi has there own brand and I've found 90% of their stuff is good. Everybody is different though, so what I like or dislike may be different then you, you just have try things and see. They also stock some name brands. If you like wine and beer they have a good selection to choose from. The middle aisle is where they have weekly household or clothing or other random fun items at great prices. I've gotten a playhouse for my granddaughter, bras, boots, pet beds, Little People and all sorts of things that I didn't need but walked out with anyways. There's a whole fb page dedicated to this center aisle called 'Aldi Aisle of Shame.' Yes, you have to shag your own cart and pay a quarter to free it from the other carts, but that's what helps keep the prices down. The checkout can be a bit slow sometimes, but the cashiers are always super friendly and nice. This Aldi has added self checkout (not a fan if I have a lot of stuff), that has made things go faster. And oh yea, bring your own bags, it's good for the environment, plus you'll have to buy them if you forget. read more

Although the selections are limited I always start at Aldi when grocery shopping then go elsewhere for the rest. Produce prices are lower on most items yet fresh. Dairy products cost less and compare with name brands. Overall prices are less. The downsides are forgetting your reusable bags and not having a quarter for the cart. read more

7 years later and this ALDI location just got a refresh, so it's time to update my review. It's been closed for about a month for renovation and I stopped by here today to see the new store. I usually just buy bread, almond milk, and a few other things; unfortunately, they were out of the sweetened almond milk I usually get so I ended up getting coconut milk instead. The renovations are super nice and I'm not sure if the store is bigger than it used to be or not, but it definitely seems like it. The only downside of course is that everything has been rearranged so I'll have to figure out where all of my go-to items are. I usually buy a lot of frozen items at ALDI and they had my mini corn dogs back in stock, which was nice because they had been out since March. I also bought some of the red bag chicken which is supposed to be really good, and the ALDI brand cheese crackers. This is my favorite ALDI store to go to, and I usually shop here about once a week. read more

I'm not in love with Aldi. It's kinda weird in there. First off, I do think it is kinda cool how you put a quarter into the mechanism on the shopping cart to release it for use. Your quarter is later returned to you when you snap it back into place. It surely saves cars from being rammed by errant carts in the lot! The weird part(s). The store has only five, really wide aisles. What you see is what you get. They put out the thing they have in stock, so don't ask if they have a certain flavor of something you bought on a previous trip. The brands are odd, no name products like, instead of Red Bull energy drink they have Red Thunder. In place of Gatorade you get Infuse. My mom likes this place, but I couldn't see shopping here for all your basic need, especially if you are a brand lover. Oh, they do have some brand name stuff. I bought a Sylvania energy efficient bulb for $2.39. But for my poor starving dog (so he acts) I was not going to buy some off brand treats. I got him some pepperoni flavored sausage bites meant for humans that look disgusting, but I know my little guy will love! B.Y.O.B(ags). They save you money by keeping down their prices this way. read more

I love aldi's I think their shopping cart system is fantastic so they can avoid hiring folks that will go out in the cold or rainy weather to get the carts back in. Instead it's a do it yourself thing, chip in a quarter do your shopping switch carts at the register, put ur groceries away then bring it back and pop back ur quarter. You'll understand when you see it. Bags are also costly so get your own plastic bags to enforce the three R's. Reuse reduce and recycle. You can bring a cardboard box too if you want I have done that for mass shopping!! Small quaint store with essentials but not much more but hey they have wine and beer!!! Sometimes they have gadgets and gizmos that are promoted monthly, I have gotten exercise balls, yoga mats, an electric whisk, it all depends on the month and the items are great quality too and reasonably priced. The veggies and fruit varieties are limited but it's not terrible. Its a small version of kroger you could say minus the hassle. And not for foodies or people that love cooking, it's for people that make easy quick meals perfect for survival (rotfl). read more

This is an excellent ALDI... I mean, is there a bad ALDI? They're all the same, for the most part. This particular location is always well-stocked and even when it's busy you make it through the line quite fast. If you're used to other grocery stores like Kroger, Meijer, or Whole Foods, be sure to bring a quarter for the card and your own bags. read more

I've been an Aldi convert for a few years now and do nearly all of my grocery shopping here. Yes, it's no-frills but it totally works for me. Does one really need 20 brands of ketchup to choose from? One thing that really irritates me about this particular location is that they tend to stock non-food merchandise down the center of the aisle where the frozen foods are. I shop at this location approximately twice a week. I never have any problems except with cashier named Ally. Today she actually took my food off of the belt and threw it into my cart while I was standing in line. I could not believe what she did and I asked why are you throwing my food into the cart. She sarcastically began apologizing, calling me ma'am and being a total bitch to me. Exclaiming she was making it easier for me to get through the line. I am astounded by how unacceptable and inappropriate this behavior is. I reported her to the corporate office. Watch out for flying food when visiting her checkout lane. read more

I'm obsessed with Aldi. Takes some getting used to if you're used to traditional grocery shopping, but it's way worth the savings. Bringing your own bags and using the quarter for the cart is different, but no big deal. Don't be thrown off or scared by the lack of name brands. I've never bought anything problematic. And if you don't like something, at least you didn't spend a lot on it. Aldi traditional pasta sauce is the best I've ever bought and my produce always lasts longer than any other major supermarket. Are people actually shopping around, or just assuming Aldi is cheaper because that's what they're "known" for? My first issue with this store is the lack of stock. I have been to Aldi's out west that have toiletries, tons of produce, household supplies - anything you need. You're lucky to find anything at this store. Recently I bought their house brand mac n' cheese, $0.59/per box. Well, the Kroger house brand is $0.19 and tastes waaaaay better. The Aldi brand tasted like cement. Milk? Over $2 a gallon. I have never paid over $2 a gallon for milk at Kroger or Meijer. Kroger and Meijer milk is also Michigan dairy - Aldi milk is not. Fruit snacks, cookies, chips - all more expensive then name brands at Kroger and Meijer - especially if there is a sale. Hamburger helper, pasta sauce, taco shells, peanut butter? All cheaper at Kroger. THeir produce sucks. Typically they have lettuce, potatoes, oranges and bannanas - always higher than Kroger and Meijer. The produce usually looks pretty sketch too. Also take into consideration the quality of the food as well. They are a prime example of what Food Inc was talking about. Their peanut butter has a laundry list of ingredients and they don't offer an "all natural" option. Kroger All Natural = peanute butter, salt and is a $1.59 (not on sale). Overall you don't save at Aldi - at least not this one. You can't use coupons, because nothing is name brand and you don't earn any points for gas or additional discounts. I'm a convert. They save me a ton of money every week, and their weekly deals on produce are untouchable. (today - 25 cents a pound for bananas. Are you kidding me? Who else does 25 cents a pound for bananas?) I've shopped all the high end places in the area. If you want an esoteric cheese, or a high end bottle of wine, this is not the place for you. And when I want those things, I head to Holiday. But Aldi will save you a ton of money on staples (mustard, rice, pasta, yogurt, half-n-half, bananas....) I know I know! I've just discovered that their butter is the same as the Meijer brand butter, but it's cheaper and has different packaging at Aldi. I love this place because I can get some really good deals here and still have pretty great quality. Not everything is cheaper than other places, but basic groceries are great to buy here. Most places you are paying for packaging, however not at Aldi. They even sell Fage greek yogurt, which is my favorite. Also, the staff is pretty nice too. Tips- Cash or Debit Cards only. I'm really puzzled by the few negative reviews. I have never had a bad cashier - most of them are extremely pleasant - and I'm always bragging about how fresh their produce is. I've been an Aldi convert since shortly after this store opened. Once I got used to bringing my own bags and having a quarter for the cart, the only other hurdle was getting used to not seeing the brands I was used to. But I can honestly say I've found some Aldi things that I like much better than the "brand" products. So to each his or her own, but I would hate for someone who's never tried the store to forego it based on the negative reviews, especially when there are so many positive ones. Since moving to the area I have used this store in Clawson every week. I have seen about 4 different managers come and go. They have all been courteous and helpful if I ever had a question or needed any help. The employees are also courteous and polite. When this store re opened after the remodel they have a new manager. This woman does not and should not be in management . She is rude, a liar and a bitch. After the third incident I called corporate, to let them know of her behavior. I tried this place a few months ago and thought I had just been there on a "bad day"...sort of like the Tuesday Morning for Food....hit or miss. Went back - bags and quarter in tow on a weekday. The discounts are not at all worth what the quality of the food actually is. EVERYTHING is over processed. Read just a few of the ingredients on their "fresh fish" if you dare. The fruits and vegetables are a whole other story...what on earth are they spraying on that crap to preserve it while it sits in the store????? The moment - MOMENT - you get it home, the fruits and vegetables start turining before your eyes, Aweful. The Aldi brand cheese is not cheese at all. Not sure what it is. Okay. A few points to know about this company. 1. It does not carry name brand foods. They have their own brand names, because they act as their own "middle man" in order to save you, the consumer, money. The products are just as good, and delicious as the national brands, if not better. I promise. 2. You have to pay a quarter(which is refunded at the end of your transaction) to use carts. They do this so they don't have to hire a person to get carts, also saving you money. They also don't accept credit cards, so as to avoid usage fees. They do however, accept debit cards. Basically, everything this company does is, is to reduce prices on their products. I will admit that I don't typically go here for produce, as it's very limited, but I would say 95% of the rest of my shopping is done here. If you come in with an open-minded approach to shopping you will find yourself saving a heap of money on groceries. My first experience with an Aldi was in Germany. In a foreign country, you don't necessarily know what is a name brand. But 20 year later, there was an Aldi in town. I like shopping at Aldi for my basics. Have you opened a can of corn lately, and there is an inch of water on top. The Aldi version is full with corn. Their Honey Nut Cheerios - tasty. Canned tomato juice - not reconstituted. Is everything great - no. New artisan container of lettuces - $4 at Hollywood, $2 at Aldi. I took a star off because they do not buy as much local. As for those who think Aldi isn't quality...Costco Brand is Kirkland...Aldi's if Kirkwood. And as the other poster said - Aldi and Trader Joes are owned by the same parent company. I was in Trader Joes today, laughing at a couple new "specialty"items - that are the same as Aldi. I think they all use some of the same suppliers. One of the best things....in and out in 30 minutes! When the store isn't the size of a football field - it really is a quick run to the store. Once you know what they have, it is easier. I go to Aldi ever week for the basics - but one other store every couple weeks. Sure, some items are inferior, which I don't buy and each location offers a slightly different experience. Overall, it's the best deal around. I can always count on Aldi having the best prices (and great quality) on sugar, flour, saltines/boxed crackers, canned goods, oatmeal, rice, sour cream, cream cheese, jams, nuts, cheapy buns and english muffins, butter, condiments, pepperoni, seasonal food items, half&half and the best deal is the tortilla chips. 99 cents a bag and they're so flippin good! If you like Chex Mix, try Aldi's. I picked up a silicone baking mat for five bucks and it's no different than my Silpat, which cost thrice the price. People turn their noses up at the mere mention of Aldi. Too bad. Shop at Trader Joe's? Same owner. If you pay attention, you'll notice lots of similarities. Marketing is everything, isn't it?? I rate it a 4 star because not everything is wonderful. The cheeses are not the best deal, I don't like their yogurts or peanut butter. I don't buy meat and very little produce. Although, if you go on their restocking day, the produce is better. Cereals are hit-or-miss...most have been ok. I didn't care for the experience at first, perhaps it's an acquired taste? You really have to figure out what YOU like and where you'll save money. Don't be put off by the lack of name brands. Many of Aldi's brands are as good, if not better. The name brands, typically, aren't a great deal there anyway. Don't be surprised to plop down less than $50 and walk away with a cart load of groceries. We're always amazed! LOL read more

I'd say the store is pretty cool. You can walk in and get what u need at better prices than the super market. The brand names may not all be there but they have the generics. Great store if your on a budget. Sorta wierd that they don't have bags but in some cases provide the boxes that thier products are shipped in I noticed. Aldi is a place you have to get used to. But it is worth the effort. Yes, the quarter for a cart is revolting, almost enough to make me never come back. But I did try it again. I went there because it is the same company as Trader Joe's. At first It is a borderline unpleasant experience if you compare it to TJ's but if you need to save money and don't care about GMO's this is your place. The Clancy salty snacks are good. The cheese is good and like 50% of what it costs elsewhere. I bought the Jenny O ground turkey and mixed it with their sloppy joe sauce in a can. A new guilty pleasure. The produce I might pass on - I prefer organic. I bought soaps and garbage bags. The big payoff is the bill. It is INCREDIBLY CHEAP. This particular location is clean and pleasant. I shop at Aldi's as much as I can the idea behind it was yes no brand names,but you also don't have the high prices like the grocery stores. I love Aldi, I love the prices, however I could do with out the overwhelming feeling of being rushed out of the check out lane. They are Always in such a rush. I understand being quick and efficient, but seriously. They hardly give you time to finish checking out before ringing up the next person. The lady in front of me was literally still paying and the cashier tells me to bring my cart around. Let her check out first! They weren't even busy! Before she even let me get a chance to get my card out she's asking me to swip it. Then before she realized it was processing, she asked me again to swip it! I visited this Aldi on an out-of-town trip. It is larger than the one in my hometown by about 1/3, carries many more items, and is generally cleaner and brighter. Produce was fresh and looked appetizing; the cashier was efficient, and fellow shoppers were friendly. Got a few good deals, but most of the weekly specials we intended to buy were out of stock. It turns out this Aldi starts its new specials on Sunday, so shopping on Saturday is not the best idea. read more

what people don't seem to understand is this: there are only so many food manufacturers and they package food for many companies/labels, so what you get in those "no brand" packages is the same as what is in a name brand package!!! aldi will save you a ton of money...they may not have everything you might use in your everyday life, but they have the basics and then some...their "special purchase" items change each week and sometimes go fast, so you have to shop for those early in the sale week...(SALE ADS RUN FROM SUNDAY MORNING TO SATURDAY EVENING, EACH WEEK) yes, the bags do cost, but you are not obligated to purchase them...you can bring your own, everyone seems to like the eco bags these days (which they also sell, and they are rather large in size, which is nice!!)and they don't mind if you grab an empty box from the store shelves to pack your groceries in...and the cart will cost you a quarter, but you do get it back when you lock the cart back up when you are done...it helps keep prices down, by not having to staff extra people to chase them down in the parking lot...and they don't bang up your car while you are inside shopping and they don't become a nuisance in the neighborhood surrounding the store...a lot of people don't like that the cashiers drop your purchases into a cart next to them, after the items are scanned...they seem to think that it might dent their cans...please, you would really have to throw the cans pretty hard for that to be likely!!and some customers don't like that you do your own bagging, but aren't the savings worth a little work?? and you don't have to worry about somebody putting your bread under the heavy stuff, if its there, its because you put it there!!! give aldi a try, maybe two...it is a different system to get used to but you will love the savings!! one more thing...their double back guarantee...they are so sure that you will like what you buy there that they stand behind their products 200%...if you find an item that you really just don't like or there is a problem with it, which can happen with any brand, you can return it to the store, receive a refund and they will ALSO replace the item with a similar item or similar priced item!! now that is a guarantee!! and it is only good on the ALDI brand products...not special purchase, etc...and FYI...aldi doesn't accept checks or charges, they only accept cash, debit or food stamps...YOU GOTTA CHECK IT OUT! read more
