I usually shop at the Hollywood Market in Royal Oak, but I stopped by the Maple Road location on Sunday while heading out to my buddy's place in Bloomfield Hills. The store was busy but spotless and beautifully set up. I found everything I needed, and the staff couldn't have been more helpful -- they went out of their way to make sure I got what I was looking for. You can imagine my shock when I saw a newspaper article on Monday morning saying this location had closed. It's hard to believe because the place was absolutely bustling the day before, full of customers and great energy. I really hope Hollywood Market finds a way to bring this location back -- it was a great store with excellent customer service and a wonderful shopping experience. read more

This is what I consider a quintessential local grocery store chain. There are 3 between the Ro and Troy area. This is the farthest from me, but I will visit it if I am running for groceries heading south at all. The staff are always warm and friendly at the Hollywood stores, they just seem so chilled. They have a nice variety of main stay grocery items. They also make a lot of their own deli sides as well. read more

I have only recently discovered how great this market is! Their meats are high-quality. For a smaller store, their inventory is amazing! I recently did all my shopping there for a dinner party, and they had everything I needed. Skip the huge chain grocery stores and go to Hollywood Market for a stress-less shopping experience. read more

I love Hollywood's meat counter. I usually go to the Royal Oak location since it is on my commute to work. The Troy store is closer to home so I occasionally go there. I have been to the Troy meat counter 3 times and every time I get home they either forgot to include an item or charged me the wrong price. I will only go to the RO location in the future read more

Update: Losing points. Lately the people that work there have been extremely rude. Anytime I ask someone if they normally carry a certain product, they act like you're asking for toilet paper and give you attitude, multiple times, mostly by 'managers' of certain departments. I call ahead and place an order and it was misunderstood, the employee comes out, in a joking sort or manner, kind of, shaking his fist at me. I told him 'I repeated myself 5 times'. He apologized. Now I have to wait for my order to be filled. I'm over entitled employees. I thought we were 'all in this together'? read more

When I was buying food for a family get-together, I wanted to avoid the near-Christmas crush so I went here. I appreciated the good deli salads; Breadsmith and other specialty breads and nice collection of packaged nuts. This is not as fancy as Holiday Market in Royal Oak.; I wish that they had a little more organic food but Whole Foods down the street probably makes it impossible to compete. Produce quality seemed OK (not on the same level as WF and Holiday but not as pricy, either). This is a classic 3.5 star review that I'm bumping up in the spirit of the season (Merry Christmas). As other reviewers have mentioned, go here for the sanity and personal touches (careful bagging and attention at the checkout line, for example), not the food prices. Hollywood is a nice change from the big grocery stores. It's not fancy. It's not modernized. It has a small town community feel. Meijer down the road is so overwhelming to me. I get lost roaming the aisles there. Hollywood is great for produce. The meat counter has a great variety of cuts. Huge, fresh muffins (zucchini are the best!) are only $1.09. My mom likes to shop here and send me here for one or two of their sale items every time I leave the house. I don't mind. Shopping here makes me happy. read more

I've been here twice now. They do a Super Deal type thing on their Facebook page once a month that always gets me in the store - this month it was Dean's ice cream (a gallon) for $1.29, normally it's around $4 and was on sale for $2.50 at the store today. Their prices are ... pretty pricey. But I liked that it was a lot less crowded than Meijer. I did buy some Minute Maid OJ too for $2.50 on sale, in addition to the ice cream. Also, I noticed today that the items on the shelves are shelved PERFECTLY ... it's kinda crazy. I imagine there's someone that goes around and straightens everything once an hour or something (lol), because they were super, super neat. Kudos to them on that. The food selection is very spartan - in its labeling n a humdrum experience They have very few gourmet or specialty foods. The deli is just plan bad / I've seen them cut 5lb bags of week-old potato salad and stuff to sell as fresh ! WTF !!!!! 2019-09-17. There is no Hollywood Markets in my area, and I've never been in one, so I thought I'd stop in to check it out. From the outside there is zero curb appeal, but it's a supermarket, not an entertainment complex. The parking lot is massive in comparison to the size of the market itself. There's no shortage of spaces and it's free. Inside, the market is brightly lit. You're ushered in Ikea-style through the first two aisles of alcohol, snacks, and produce. Once you get to the fresh meats counter, the place opens up and you're free to go down the center aisles. The place is very clean, and the shelves well stocked. There is also free WiFi that does not require you to give up information of any kind (so for those of you with a limited data plan, you'll looked after here). The produce not the freshest, and their prices are competitive. Hollywood Markets is more than a supermarket, they stock and sell personal hygiene and baby products (food and diapers) as well. The alcohol is advertised to be selling at state minimum prices. Bottom line: Hollywood Market is modeled to the likes of Vince & Joes, Nino Salvaggio, or Randazzo's; but at a lower level/smaller scale. On the day I went, their produce (by which I judge supermarkets) is inferior. Based on scale and freshness of produce, I would categorize them as being in competition to something like Trader Joe's. I was a longstanding Kroger shopper. However, their recent decline in stock and rise in prices, had me curious to explore my shopping options. I hadn't dated a new store in a while, and slowly, here and there, would pick up a couple items from my neighborhood Hollywood market. At first, I was uneasy. She seemed a little fancier than most girls I dated regularly, more slender and direct about what she had to offer. But there was a simplicity that I was drawn to. Her revocation in supplying what she knew I needed, before I even did, made my choices easier -- and made me want to be with her more. As time went by, we began spending more time together. I remember the first time we made tacos together -- I was so impressed with her quality. The ground beef was flavorful and lean. The produce crisp and vibrant. I was hooked. It was thereafter that our romance grew. She began surprising me with little gifts I hadn't expected here and there....Brownie Brittle, Peanut Butter Dipped Pretzels, gourmet Root Beer and Dr. Better -- and my personal favorite, Skinny Pop. It wasn't much longer, that I realized Hollywood was for me. Sure, she didn't have all of the fancy accessories and such like Kroger -- but she knew me, and that was fine enough. Hollywood is a savvy woman, and she recognizes the importance of being surrounded by good people. The butchers are friendly and helpful They smile when they see you and remind you that once upon a time, people used to really respect butchers and value them. I have since built a relationship with Hollywood's butchers -- taking their recommendations and advice when offered (always pleased). I also believe that Hollywood has somehow accomplished the impossible. Somehow, my dear, sweet Holly, has managed to hire the only friendly, responsible and well-mannered teenagers in the area. The cashiers and baggers are top notch. They are engaging, warm and professional -- even when the strip on your debit card is worn out and you and must request a plastic bag to cover it, so it will swipe thru. Holly also has a philanthropic heart. Unlike some of her "competitors" (Is there any really competition for my Holly? -- I think not.); Holly does not shun our young Girl Scouts to the blistering cold tundra. Instead, she welcomes them into her warm lobby, so their smiling faces and rosy cheeks can truly be appreciated, and coax us into buying 5 boxes of cookies we do not need. With a to die for wine section (which regularly lists sales and ratings of wines), full liquor availability and assortment of gummi bears, I see this love affair lasting for years to come. Sometimes Meijer scares me. I can rarely get out of there in under an hour due to it's vast size and overwhelming majority of brands. Enter Hollywood Market. I go here for my fruits and veggies and all of my meat/deli products. The meat seems to be fresher here as I have never picked up a package of chicken breast only to have chicken juice leak all over my hands (yeah, that was fun walking through Meijer with that!). They have good sales all the time (I just picked up red bell peppers for 99 cents/lb, woohoo!), and it's small enough to where I can get in and out of there in a few minutes. Some of their things can be a little pricier then you would find at Meijer or Target or something, but Hollywood is still my favorite. read more

When I used to live on this side of town, Hollywood was a great place to pick up quality groceries for good prices. As stated before, they have a limited selection of brands. if you're super picky about which brands you'll eat, then you may be out of luck. But I've never had a problem finding what I wanted in here. Though it's a smaller grocery store, they'll most likely have what you're looking for (more so than some of the grocery stores in Hamtramck, which I sometimes love, sometimes loath for issues of finding the right brands) The meat and deli counter is top notch. After going to Hollywood for a few years, I just can't bring myself to go to a SUPERmarket deli counter. I can't explain exactly, but I think it's because Hollywood feels like a mom and pops meat and deli. You'll see what I mean. Cheap prices, and the stuff just seems to taste better. On average, I spent $20 less than i do now having to go to a mix of stores chasing sales. I miss being able to just know where to get the best deals! Definitely check Hollywood out if you're looking for an alternative to massive supermarket hell. read more

Hollywood is my goto grocery store at the moment. I started doing our weekly grocery shopping here because I couldn't handle shopping with the degenerates at Walmart or deal with the waiting in long lines behind gift card scammers at Meijer. With that said, Hollywood is a breath of fresh air. I can get in, shop, and get out with everything I need quickly, without having to fight other people through the aisles or wait forever in line. They have a great selection of gluten free goods, larger than any other local store we have shopped, which is awesome when you have a Celiac in the family! The downfall is the cost. I never leave with less than a $160 grocery bill that makes my budget conscious heart drop on a weekly basis. Anywhere else, it would be closer to $110-120. You definitely pay for the pros here. Pros: - Fantastic Customer Service - Fresh Meat & Produce that actually lasts - Large Gluten Free selection - Easy to get in and get out, never a line of more than two people. Cons: - Limited Selection of Brands - High prices Update 7/2017: We shop here on a weekly basis and lately I've been really disappointed in Hollywood. Twice now, I've come home to put away groceries only to discover I bought expired cheese or out of date milk. The other big bummer for us is that the meat quality seems to be going downhill. We buy Delmonico Steaks weekly in the summer. Not cheap. Two of the past three times, we cooked it to medium and couldn't even chew it! The third time I am convinced they put NY Strips in the Delmonico section and charged us for the pricey Delmonicos. They were tougher, if you can imagine and not rib shaped at all. Ultimately, I'm just really disappointed. Changing from four to three stars... and feel that's generous right now. read more

My favorite place to go when I need to flee from the never-ending Kroger stores and the incredible lack of competition in this market. Hollywood has a fantastic meat market and nice deli. It may be a little pricy on staples because it can't compete with the big boys, but it makes up for it in great customer service. Have to support the home team! read more

The deli has good cheese, slices to perfection! The bread is always warm and fresh, and the meats are smoked very well. The snacks, though junky, do not make me feel sluggish because I know I can always buy a cucumber stick or a bag of carrots later for a satisfying lunch. Enough about the food, the housemade juices are squeezed to your likeness, even if you hate that disgusting apple pulp. I'm a previous employer, worked there for months. They have a disgusting back room where all the food is. I've had to kill cockroaches, big ants, bees and other insects (all by the packaged food). Terrible employee benefits, if any at all. Most workers are rude and inconsiderate and awful management. I would never buy food there again, I mean check the expiration date on all food you buy (most times it is expired). I've never worked at such a problematic, disgusting and disappointing company; this the reason I quit. I'm giving it one star because I can't give it any lower. I hope they see this and change because I want to protest against people buying their food. Although I said all of this, the meat department and all of that is amazing, just the food on the shelves. Cramped beyond belief! I love the Rochester location and stopped in here. Very strange and cramped entry to the store itself, pushing past all the grocery baggers and merchandise into an equally cramped bakery/produce area. After trying to get past the pile-up at the meat counter, I gave up and left my empty cart and walked out. I will never shop here again, I don't normally have claustrophobia, but all I wanted to do was get out of here. read more

One of the best meat markets in Metro-Detroit. The steaks, chops, seafood, and ribs are of the highest quality and the people are eager to help you. We usually get some Delmonico ribeye steaks and they are always well-marbled, fresh, and full of flavor. If you're looking for some great meat, this is definitely the place to go. Decent if you are looking to stop in for basic items. Does have a very odd and out of date vibe. Really strange layout too sort of like being in those corral lines at an amusement park. Reminds me of the grocery store setting in Stephen kings short story "the mist". "The Meat People" Been going here for years because when you need an old fashion butcher shop this is what you get unlike Krogers or Meijers who have their stuff already come in pre cut and packaged? Try and get a nice cut of Rib Eye like two inches thick? Not happening unless you go to Hollywood Super market If your looking for a hidden surprise try their original Beer Batter Cod cooked on premises and once you try it you'll be hooked. Yeah it seems expensive but where can you go and get nice healthy cod loins like four or five of them for under $10.00. They are a better market. The staff is nice and they do carry premium meat, fruits and vegetables. I do like the deli dept. I also enjoy stopping by for lunch on the go. They have sandwiches, soups and chicken and salads. They are not the cheapest in town. If you are looking for cheap, I would suggest Meijer. read more

What a great store, so much better than tha larger chains. Excellent meat counter, and deli. Who wants packaged stuff where you can't even see the other side of the meat. Theirs is well trimmed, too. I don't know where they get their pork chops, but they are far superior to anyone elses. Don't want the whole rump roast, they'll cut in in half for you. Good ground meat, Angus steaks, city chicken, too. I like that you can get seafood, i.e., King Crab legs, shrimp, talapia, etc. in frozen form. Who wants stuff that has been previously frozen then sits out for who knows how long?! realize they have some seafood in the case, but it is really cold, usually still partially frozen on all that ice. It doesn't smell of stale fish, as do many SUPERmarket fish counters. I disagree with the reviewer who said the produce is not as fresh. It is great. Have you checked out Kroger's produce; a lot of it looks way past its prime. Not so with Hollywood. Also, so what if there are only a couple of brands of tomato sauce, etc. Who needs to choose from 10? They have the better brands, anyway, and their own moderately priced Spartan brand. Their dairy selection is good, too, better than Kroger and Meijer. I like that it is a smaller store, easy in and out. I hate the long lines at Kroger and Meijer. When things get jammed up at Hollywood, they open more registers immediately. Nice staff, too. Sure, some of their prices are are a little higer, but they have great sales on great products all the time.. Also I have seldom noticed that they are out of sales items - if they are, the cashier writes the rain check. It is rarely an issue, though, as they keep the shelves well stocked. Meijer is always out of the items, and you have to wait in line at Customer Service (that is service?) to get a rain check! Too big, too crowded, parking lot is always full. Sure they have some decent sale items, but their regular prices are not all that low. Super WalMart -- forget it. When I want groceries, I want underware or hardware, I go to department or hardware stores. I just want a good grocery store, and Hollywood it is. I hve been shopping there ever since we moved to Troy 40 years ago. It is my number one store for meat and groceries. Great customer service, too. It can't be beat. We are furrunate to have such a store, especially in the absence of butcher shops. Yes, Holiday have some good stuff, but talk about pricey. It is not even my special occasion store any longer. Westborn is O.K., but over priced, too. I also shop some produce at Salvaggio, some stuff is good, but some is so stale and wilted it would be headed for the compost heap at our house. After Hiller's closed in West Bloomfield, Mi . I was desperate to find meats that suit our taste buds, so off I went to the other store on Opdyke. Great people, friendly and happy to walk you to what you need to find. Then went to the Maple store, same thing great, friendly, helpful people, but with a bit more pizzaz in their selections. Live in Pontiac, but go to Birmingham frequently. Now my store to go to! Love you guys. read more
