Also, delighted they are a longtime retailer of Crooked Creek milk and cream. Produced in Romeo, delicious, not duplicated elsewhere. Bob's Red Mill selection. Other fresh and frozen meats, spices and groceries. Some specialty items. Of course Amish Turkeys folks swarm Peacocks for. Heartwarming that they're still in business after 100 years. Hmmmmm. A 1st. Timer here. Verdict is still out - ordered a fresh bird a week ago. Was shocked that I waited in line, for an hour- with people who didn't pre order. Bird seems like it's frozen ? Of course it's not my business, but seems like there should be a way easier way to pick up. Hopefully I will post rest of review and say the turkey was best I ever had? We FINALLY made it here and were pleasantly surprised by all the stuff they cram into the tiny little place... They have a cold case with fresh whole chickens, various chicken parts, bacon, and some cheeses. They also have some pre-packed local things like corn chips and dressings, along with fun things like jarred sweet beets, dill green beans, and zucchini relish. I loved the freezer section, with everything from sliced peaches to mixed veggies to whole rabbits to ground pork sausage. We wanted to try everything, but limited ourselves to buffalo burgers, a rabbit, ground port sausage, a chicken, and some sweet and sour sauce (that we've gotten before at Papa Joe's). Being organic, the stuff is more expensive, but being that we just wanted to try stuff, we weren't worried about the price. That said, I don't see this becoming our go-to place for everything because of the extra cost. BUT if organic is what you want, this is the place to get it. The workers were very nice, offered us information on the growing practices (and didn't barrage us when we said it wasn't necessary), and were just chatty enough not to be annoying. I highly recommend you at least stop and take a look at this place...though I'm sure you'll end up spending money you hadn't planned on! read more

By far the best Amish store I have ever been to. I really have no idea where to start... Turkey: The best damn turkey I have ever had in my life. And in order to experience this pleasant party in your mouth during your Thanksgiving dinner then you have to order about a month to a month and a half in advance. These people do not play. You'll realize sooner or later. TurDucKin: Did I spell that right? What is it you ask? Turkey X Duck X Chicken. Wow is it a mouthful. In both ways. You would think it would taste gamey, but nooooope. Another fantastic white meat party in your mouth. Stuffing packages: BOMB. A must have for your Turkey and so easy to make. They also have a deli and a small grab and go selection of precooked food. Another reason why I love this place besides the amazing food? The family. They literally live right next door and it's still family owned and operated til this day. Everyone in there is family. YUM!! We had a fabulous turkey, and their pick-up system was impeccable! I was worried about waiting in line for a long time since there are certainly a lot of turkey orders for the day before Thanksgiving, but we were only there for maybe 15 minutes!! We even had our picture taken with the turkey outside for an extra dollar off. While I loved the convenience of getting our turkey, it was also delicious for our Thanksgiving dinner. We'll definitely order from Peacock's Poultry Farm any time we're hosting the big event. read more

Maybe you're like me and a small sign on the edge of Rochester road telling you that Peacocks is indeed open to the public is something you might have a hard time believing. And then maybe, if you are interested enough to turn onto the road you may be dismayed by the house right next door and the tiny building that you pull up to. But don't dismay! Keep going and you'll find the freshest eggs, Amish poultry that they drive down to Indiana on Monday's to get and other all-natural products that will blow your mind once you taste them. It's not overpriced by any means and it's a family run business. The people who work there are great and always have suggestions if you're overwhelmed by the little stores offerings (from frozen Amish chicken soup, to fresh jams and jellies to two pounds of unsalted butter) they carry a wealth of products that are of the highest quality. They're not open on Monday's or Sunday's and I don't think they're open late, but if you can get there it's worth it. They do ship some of their product out to stores and I know you can get some of their poultry at Market Fresh (On 13 & Southfield) if you can't make it out to Troy. We've gone a dozen or so times to date. The products, fresh and frozen, have been of good quality. The store is small and I'd like to say welcoming. However, while they usually do say hello upon entry, the staff seriously lack the friendliness you hope to find in a smallish mom 'n pop type business. The past few visits have been so awful in fact, I cringe thinking I need to go back for more. Definitely do not make you feel as they appreciate their business! read more

So I didn't want to drive down to my normal turkey farm Down river. It's over an hour away, last year i got a ticket. So i decided to try peacock in Troy. I called to reserve my bird asking to make sure this is a "fresh" turkey. I decided to pick it up tuesday before Thanksgiving. I originally wanted wednesday but they were only open until 2 and i unfortunately have to work. That was a blessing in disguise! I walk in look around what looks like a little mom and pop place. I think to my self if this place is half as good as our normal turkey farm, i could make this a regular stop for fresh meats. It's so close!! I notice that the turkey is in the same plastic wrap as a store bought turkey, never been here I'm like ah it's just how it Comes here. She calls out the weight to the young girl behind the register and i pay. I walk over to claim my turkey and immediately ask the woman it's frozen? It's supposed to be fresh ? She replies it is fresh ? I was like no it's frozen. She hands me copy and says here is some information on our turkeys and how they are fresh. It's just a layer of ice. This damn thing is hard as a rock and frozen all the way through. If we would have picked this up wednesday it would have never been thawed by 5am in Thursday!! This place is a joke and over charges for something you can buy at Meijer a frozen turkey! I will make the hour drive or buy frozen cheaper elsewhere. From a store that does not play on words to make you buy something you thought was totally different. its not a farm it's a damn store!! I wish i could give it negative stars. You can get an amish chicken here for cheaper than you can get a regular chicken at the market, or am I missing something? The eggs are super fresh, and the bacon is outstanding -- all seem to be less expensive than the supermarket. I grew up with chickens, and I have missed fresh poultry like this for most of my adult life. Peacock, you rock. read more

My turkey was frozen!!!! Not fresh like promised !!!! I asked the sales person... she said it was just a sheet of ice! Got it home still rock solid!!! A joke on me -guess I'm the big turkey now! Never again! The woman at the front door yelling at every person walking in for their name... screeching, you can't come in unless you give your name-rude lunatic. There's no actual turkeys or chickens walking around here even thought the word "farm" sort of implies that. For that you have to go visit your hippie friends in Ferndale. But there are plenty of dead ones all ready to take home and eat. If you need turkey to eat, this is the place to get it. PS They also sometimes sell their stuff at other stores like Hollywood Market or whatev so if getting to this location is hard, ask around, your local store might stock this stuff. read more

Picked up my "fresh" turkey the day before Tranksgiving, surprised to feel it hard. Like other reviewer was told to refrigerate at the thin layer of ice would be gone in few hours. On Thanksgiving morning it was 50% frozen. Had no choice except to place in warm water to remove internal ice solid packet and rest of the bird. Next time will purchase at local grocery store for $ .70 per pound instead of $ 3.89. read more

Total mess! Starting with the cigarette smoking women in the parking lot... Thinking she was helping. Why order????? when you get a number and wait in the same line as walk in ????? No organization. 60+ people in that small store. Wonder what the TROY FIRE DEPARTMENT would think? Told Turkeys are fresh .... No frozen !!!!! Waited 45 minutes for a frozen turkey!!! that I could have purchased in a local market. 1 register for check out. Will NEVER go back !will go to Long Lake Market to purchase the same frozen Turkey. I went here and got 1 lb of meat. They charged me double and when i went to the car i looked at the receipt. They charged me for 3 lbs. I went back in and got a refund and paid for the one lb. The refund was never put back on my card. Im never going again read more

This place has a good selection of meats that you wouldn't find at the average grocery store. I expected less of their selection to be frozen, but I understand it's a small place and demand might mean that it's a necessity in order to offer the selection that they have. read more

I have been a customer of Peacocks Poultry for a few years now, I drive a fair distance to support their business. My family really enjoys their turkey sausage and bacon, and that is mostly what we buy from them. Because of the distance I drive to support this business, I tend to drop by, maybe once a quarter and "stock up" as I did today. On average I spend between $125-200 when I do. I must say I was quite upset when I stopped by today ( 9/10/14 ) and spent 200 of my hard earned dollars, only to be treated like COMPLETE SHIT by the young lady that worked behind the counter. The last few times I have stopped by she has been the one to wait on me, unfortunately. To say she has an attitude problem, and has no people skills, would be putting it mildly. She acted as if waiting on me was a HUGE chore for her. I put some product on the counter ( which had someones water bottle sitting right in the middle of it, and also a stack of cash with some papers ) and she rudely asked me "is this it", I told her that no, they should have an "order" for me that I placed TWO months ago. She again, very rudely, told me that the bacon I had gotten from the freezer was ALL they had ( 13 pkgs of it at $9 a pkg ). I told her that I had called yesterday and had been told that my order was sitting aside for me, when I told her my name she interrupted me and said " I know who you are" and then told me that what they had in the store freezer was all the bacon they had, so even though I was told via the phone yesterday that I had 12 pkgs of bacon sitting aside for me, that wasn't really the truth. If someone else had come in and bought some, then there would NOT have been the 12 I ordered available to me. This upsets me because, firstly, what I was told wasn't really the truth, and secondly, as I stated it is a drive for me to come to this store. Then the young lady asked me how much MORE of the sausage I wanted, so she could go in the large freezer and get some, because, again, it hadn't really been put aside for me. This is NOT the first time this has happened to me. I have called WEEKS in advance to "place an order", been told that someone would call me when the product is "in", never to be called. It seems to me that Peacocks is not really interested in keeping my business. My advice to you, if you even care, is to have someone waiting on the customers who is PLEASANT to the customers, who makes them feel welcome and shows that their business is appreciated. I for one will be looking for another source for my Turkey sausage and bacon. read more

Don't buy anything at this place. The turkeys are frozen and not fresh. Also, they overcharged me several times at this place. Just recently I paid $51.87 for a 13.1lb turkey. I did not have my receipt nor the wrapper from the turkey so I could not get my money back. Then not too long ago I was charged $6 per lb for chicken thighs when they had a special of $6 for 5lbs of chicken thighs. The girl there charged me $30 for the thighs instead of $6. Will not shop there anymore. Going to Busch's Market or Vince and Joe's. I am done with these people. read more

I have been a customer of Peacock Poultry Farm for a very long time. I purchase a turkey from them at least twice a month. Recently, I bought a turkey from them that just looked and tasted terrible. I called them and told them how disappointed I was about their quality of food and was treated terribly by the owner of the store. My family and extended family have been buying turkeys and other products regularly from here, but we will no longer do so. If you are looking for quality food and good customer service, look elsewhere. read more
