I picked two three dollar shampoos and somehow he thought I was going to steel one so seeing how I was holding them I as don't have more than two hands. It is not your security guard's job to stand at the door and ask people if their service dogs are properly registered. You cannot ask someone with a service dog to prove their need for a service dog, to detail their condition, or to provide certification and identification regarding their service dog. These questions are detailed in the ADA, one of the most important federal laws regarding service animals, and you are not allowed to ask for any other proof that a dog is a service dog. When I explained to your security guard that he was not allowed to be asking me for my service dog's registration or certification he told me that refusing to provide these to him was proof that I was a liar. He then told me that he loved his job. I stood my ground and forced him to call the manager. Two managers came to explain to your security guard that he was not allowed to ask people about their service dogs. Your security guard argued with the managers that he must be given the ability to assess whether an animal has been trained through the proper channels and provided the proper certification before he allows them to enter the building. Your managers took their security guard away and I was allowed to go shopping, as I do every day in the store with my service animal, but not before they warned me that if my dog barked or made any noise at all they would throw us out. We went and bought some Sushiya from HEB on Austin highway we got the South Texas combo, which consisted of the picante roll, the Rio Grande roll, and the El Fuego Roll and The Texas Trio Combo which was a gulf Coast roll, San Antonio, roll, and an Austin roll. Their sushi is always fresh and tasty and I just love the ginger that comes with it. It's thinly sliced and it's fresh as well. You can't go wrong with Heb sushi there's a huge variety of different choices. You can get sushi at any H-E-B grocery store. My favorite is the fire cracker roll. This is like a Super Walmart but w/ more produce, more meat selections w/o the crowd. They have a big selection of organic fruits and vegetables, too. There is an app that you can use to search for a particular item and it'll tell you its customer rating, where to find it (which aisle), and the price. That right there is bad ass in itself. Craig took me here so we can get stuff for Thanksgiving. We decided to make cheese burger stuffed peppers. Yeah, he's an executive chef and I love to eat and cook so the dishes we come up can get creative. We got a few things for the kids as well. No self-checkout lines but there is an express lane section. Not too busy the day before Thanksgiving. I was surprised. Every grocery store in the Bay Area would be flooded w/ people. As we got into a lane to stand in line, I noticed Bang. They sell Bang here! I have yet to find a Safeway or a Lucky's here that sells them. I wasn't waking up early for the gym so I put it back but Craig insisted. He tried it and said he felt instantly stronger *hahaha* Friendly cashier. No issues here at all. Love it here! read more

Upon checking out at the self-checkouts, today 05/08/2025 at 12:40PM in having issues with my credit card being accepted. It is only at this store that this occurs. Never at any other grocers, retailor, or so forth... Upon asking for assistance, the HEB employee reset the register and had me retry my card. Still, I had issues checking out, it was I who in the end rescanning my card over and over with the employee not knowing what to do, merely watching, not offering any apologies or further assistance. She moved on after a moment or two to another customer needing help. I finally got the register to accept my card and left. Not once did the employee return to check if I completed my transaction or not. Totally unprofessional! Even in not being her fault, as a representative of HEB she should have offered an apology and assisted me with kit-gloves. HEB, especially at this store [1520 Austin HWY San Antonio, Texas 78218] offers NO Customer Service or Assistance. The employee might as well have been hired to stand around taking up space. No excuse for hiring such incompetence or laziness. read more

Never usually have an issue with HEB , hence 2 stars and not 1. I went through curbside to pick up groceries yesterday. Today I take out these blackberries to feed my daughter for breakfast and they are completely molded. I call corporate for a refund and they are unable to do it over the phone. I must go back in person to customer service at that location to refund my card the $. Ridiculous as that defeats the whole point of picking up groceries through curbside. Be careful when ordering delivery. Several times I have ordered the buy one and get a free item. They seem to always have the item that you are required to buy but never have the free item you are supposed to get. They don't give you a rain check or anything for that item. Yesterday I called them about the free item and they said they would replace it with something that they did have and it would be delivered shortly.... That did not have happen! Again this is not the only time it has happened. Seems almost criminal to me. read more

The staff is very kind and helpful, very friendly. The produce is not always the quality I would like. The selection is, I would guess, for families who eat ordinary meals and watch their bank accounts...as we all should do. Often it is crowded and, in covid days, I fine that people are not careful about their masks or distance. The flower section leaves me cold! They are starting to cater a bit to vegan/vegetarians but I still only use this store for very basic things. They do have limited organic products. The staff is so nice that I do not want to "dis" this store. But I only go there when convenience demands. They do have larger size packages of things like garbage bags. There is always that one employee who loves to they customers how wrong they are, and when you try to explain the situation to them. They blow you off and not give you a minute of your time. Just happen 15 mins ago with the old Hispanic cashier at the self check. Makes me mad when I am talking to someone and they just walk away. Just another away of saying F U to someone. Recently the HEB on Austin Highwsy took out 5 handicap parking spaces alongside the building facing Harry Wursbach. Leaving only 6 handicap spaces in their parking lot. When I asked a store manager when they would be replacing those parking spots I was told that they weren't. They took out the spaces because they were not in compliance with how many they had. She didn't know were or who this information was from but assumed it was the city or possibly the owner of the property. The American with Disabilities has a table that tells you the minimum number of handicap parking spaces you can have according g to how many parking spaces you have. This Heb supports their security bullying customers... I have the police report to prove it and will post as soon as it is ready from SAPD. I was kicked off the property after the incident by the manager and after speaking to the store director "Jake". He stated ," We are not the parking lot police."the situation was started after a car rolled in the crosswalk almost running over myself and a senior citizen couple coming into the store. I noticed the securiry guard playing on his phone and I addressed it to him only for him to get in my face and threaten to "go to work" on me. Classic behavior from an "Austin Hwy" business. From my psychological studies and education, I believe the security guard was on drugs and the manager that totally backed up his behavior was obviously a cohort of his. So what is HEB and Allied Universal doing about it? Absolutely nothing. So after over 40 years of loyalty to HEB, I must walk away. I've been going to this specific location since 1999 when I moved here and NEVER had an issue there nor an issue being judged like I'm trash off the street or a menace. But who cares right? I shop at this HEB regularly I have never seen line so slow ...I'm literally standing in line with 10 items plus some soups with people in front me with large baskets and behind . I try to go to self check the lady goes from let me help you scan those soups to I can help you . They have everything you would want in a grocery store from the produce items to pretty much everything you need to eat or cook it is available they have all types of barbecue packages that they put together but he does stay chicken etc. etc. This delay is really close to everything around us so we never have any problems getting in and out quickly. Staff is very friendly and the place seems pretty clean I didn't really notice anything negative about this H-E-B I know it has the pharmacy and curbside pharmacy as well so it's a really convenient spot to go. read more

An okay HEB on Austin Hwy & Harry Wurzbach. This is not the best one out there. It's larger than most of the HEBs that are around here, but their produce section seems to be no larger than the other HEBs. What does seem to be larger is their meat section, and their other misc stuff, like paper plates and canned foods. They do sell gas here- score! The aisles here seem to be larger than most of the HEBs around town also. Yes! The weird thing about this store is that it's sort of laid out like an oval, with a big space you can't cross through where the beer coolers, the deli, and the cheese sections are. I do enjoy the beer selection here- they do have a bit of everything here- from the jumbo packs of Natty to the hipster-approved craft breweries! Another cool feature of this store is the fast checkout- the clerks are usually on the ball, it's the customers who are trying to write checks in the express lane, or performing multiple transactions from one basket. The most aggravating thing about this HEB is the ridiculous parking situation. Whoever designed this shopping center's parking lot should be forced to drive it in circles for eternity. They put all these barriers to try and force you to drive around these long, leisurely curves to get anywhere. I'd hop the curb and go busting through the dividers if it weren't for the security patrols *now with dogs*. I detest this HEB. read more

I ordered a $49.98 Justice league cake for my 5 year old nephew yesterday and had got my dad an Uber to pick up this cake that I was unable to pick up because I had to set up for his last minute party that his father was not able to throw him because of financial issues and when the cake arrived it was a POKEMON cake that was not anywhere close to the one I ordered and HAD SOMEONE ELSES NAME ON IT. my father did not know which cake we had ordered so of course he did not check. I called to let them know what happened and they responded with bring the cake back and we will switch them. not only would I have to get another Uber to go get the cake and switch out the mistake THEY HAVE CLEARLY MADE but I have to leave this TIMED party to go and pick it up and they couldn't even give me a discount of any kind. now I have to explain to my 5 year old nephew that he can not have the cake he wanted. this just blows my mind that I have to pay 50.00 for a cake that wasn't even mine to begin with. What I like about this location is the product mix: there's a little high end, and a little of the other end. This is best evidenced by the beer selection: a fantastic indicator of "target market". At this location, one side features yuppie selections; the other features more working-class choices. The same can be seen applied to all departments. You won't find as varied a selection on either end as you'll find in a store in a more homogenous neighborhood, but the way this store stocks a little something for everyone amuses me. Like all HEBs, it's a reflection of its neighborhood. The parking lot *is* a little weird, but no worse than most HEBs. It *can* get a little crowded and hectic. And you *can* pick the "short" line, only to be held up by Lone Star card problems, coupons, or multiple individualized transactions in what appears to be a family shopping together. This used to be my local HEB that I used to come to all the time and I still do when I'm visiting my folks. So this one was built a few years back and used to be located across the street. Overall I'm impressed with the way the store is laid out and the lines usually aren't to long and there are plenty of self checkout lanes. They have decent beer and wine section, pretty good bakery section and just an average organic section. But the great thing about HEB is that the prices are cheap and they have have meal deals known as combo locos. read more

This place is so packed that if I didn't know better, I'd swear they were giving stuff away! Alas, no, it's just a very busy location - and as reviewer Sheena G. has noted, there are seldom enough clerks to handle the business. In addition, this particular H-E-B seems to be a favorite of the uber-couponers - you know, those people who buy $300 worth of stuff and ultimately pay only $20, by redeeming 750 coupons (arguing at length with the clerk when one of their coupons won't work for the merchandise they've selected). I like the fact, however, that the self-check lanes are usually open - though it's a crap shoot getting an employee's assistance if the scanner locks up on you. They have the Sunday paper, hurrah! And I've also found some pretty good specials, here, on products I use: Purina ONE cat food, cat litter (they sell Fresh Results, the brand my kitties and I prefer, YAY!), Basis soap, coffee, and their house brand products. And this H-E-B carries Nielsen-Massey Vanilla Bean Paste - a MIRACULOUSLY wonderful product - once you use this in place of vanilla extract, there's NO turning back. Other things are hit-or-miss. I was incredulous (and irritated) to discover they don't carry dried currants, which I use in baking. Quality of produce is just okay; and prices are a little high, normally - which I find rather annoying in a locally-based business - and on more than one occasion, they've been completely OUT of a common item. Last summer, it was parsley: none was shipped from the warehouse (for whatever reason), so there was no parsley for at least a week! So this should really, actually, be a 2.5 star review - for a truly middle-of-the-road experience, overall. I'm thankful to the 99 Cent Store, the local farmers' markets, Sun Harvest, and the commissary for filling in the abundant gaps in H-E-B's service and inventory. read more

This is a very busy HEB so the parking issue is understandable. What is not understandable is the lack of checkers on duty at any given time, They also have four self checkout line but much of the time they do not have all four active. On a plus both the bakery and flower shop are very nice and do a great job. read more

I will start off by saying that the parking situation is ridiculous. That being said, this location is leaps and bounds better than the location on Walzem. On occasion my family and I shop at this HEB because it's better than the alternative. It's always got the products that we need but by no means does it go above and beyond. read more

The store was clean and organized. Went to pick up a few items for a Sunday cookout. Was able to find everything I needed and check out was a breeze. However, don't go on a Sunday afternoon. It will be crowded and congested but the free samples and combo locos but the trip worth it. read more

If you are pressed for time, don't go to the Austin Hwy HEB. There are two that are very close on Basse and N. New Braunfels. I have not caught a line at either of these because when I went to both of these, the majority of the checkout lanes were open. The Austin Hwy store has way more shoppers but never has enough staff for checkout. Plus, they don't have any healthy choices at the hot bar. Annnnd the deli is subpar. The differences in quality are just astounding esp since the 3 stores are within a 3 mile radius. We all know Central Market is known as Gucci-B. Well, I call this location Ghetto-B. It is my neighborhood HEB as I live on Fort Sam Houston. I prefer to drive a bit further and go to the Lincoln Heights HEB. However, I frequent this location for convenience. The produce is always outstanding . The staff are always helpful. However, it is very busy and checkout time is longer. The shopping experience and variety does not compare to Lincoln Heights. There are also a lot of shady-looking individuals around. I have been stopped more than once by the same individual trying to get money from me because his "car broke down". I guess he forgot he had already tried to pull that one on me the week before. read more
