I just love H-E-B. This one is good. It's one of at least two that I know of in Midland, TX. My daughters laugh still when I tell them H-E-B stands for the founder's son, Howard E. Butt. "Butt," they giggle. Lest you forget, "the initials also playfully represent the store's slogan, 'Here Everything's Better'." Cute, huh? This store was mostly clean and organized. We found some good deals on meats. I mean for the times. And I love the H-E-B line. They omit lots of junk and artificial crap plus they are cheaper than the name brands. This mom is a fan! We don't have HEB where I live, but I wish we did. The store has everything you could ever need! It has a grocery section, flower shop, a bakery, and a wide variety of non-food items like towels, candles, and so much more. The staff I interacted with was incredibly friendly, from the baker in the bakery department, to the florist who created a beautiful centerpiece for my aunt's 100th birthday. The store was spotlessly clean. The produce department is enormous, and they also carry a great selection of organic fruit. The bakery department has premade cakes and also takes special orders. They have a great selection of meats, including large packs for those with larger families or if you're hosting a large gathering. There's plenty of parking and handicap spaces near the entrance. read more

On February 11 and February 12, my 5th grade daughter and I drove around to many stores (Walmart, United, and this HEB to look for a Sun flower that she wanted to make #Ikebana for her 4th grade teacher at MCS. After so many trips, non of the Sun flower on display would meet our quality standards but we see amazing Sun flower in the bouquet (mix with other flowers) display in the cabinet. My daughter politely approached Ms. KP that work there asking her if there is anyway she can just buy ONE Sun flower. Normally, we got turned down for such a request all the time and sometime people didn't even feel like wanting to help us but Ms. KP took her time to check her stock and allow my daughter to pay for that one Sun flower. This experience at HEB with Ms. KP topped all the expectations with our experience with all the groceries stores. We appreciate your empathy, caring, and understanding! 10/23/23 - Just went to HEB to pick up Rotisserie chicken. I assumed I would be buying a whole chicken as usual. Unfortunately, I discovered that they only had containers containing only breast quarters for $7 or 5 chicken legs for $5. Did not like the selections or pricing but decided to go buy two containers of breast quarters for $14 as family was looking forward to this as our dinner. Unfortunately, the breast quarters were extremely dry and not as savory as they have historically been. I assume HEB is trying to maximize price by only selling select cuts at or near the old price for whole birds. I understand that inflation has occurred; however, due to the lack of flavor and dryness of this meat I will not be shopping for these again at HEB. I encourage a re-thinking of this approach! Wow... so I visited the other H-E-B (off Loop 250) and gave it a 3-star. I really wasn't a huge fan... mainly because it was so crowded it ruined my experience. I decided to check out this location and am glad I did! Totally different experience! I don't know if it's because I came at a different time on a different day??? To me, this store seems so much bigger/spacious (but is that because it wasn't as crowded as the other location??) I was able to find 99% of the products I came for. There is this one flavor of water enhancer that has been out at both this and the other H-E-B. It must be good?!?! I saved SO MUCH $ TODAY! I picked up Texas Rangers gear for the family (clothing was 50% off) and other Rangers merchandise (Flag, magnet) for 75% off!!! We also got some summer items (bubble blowers, sand buckets) for the kids for 75% off!!! All said, I saved $133.04 today! Say whaaaaat?!? Other things I liked: 1. The double-kid carts! Clutch for families with more than one kid!!! 2. The in-store coupons! $1 off avocado oil, $1 off water enhancers, Hotwheels cats 2/$1.50 To name just a few! 3. Has that "Wegmans" supermarket feel. After working all over the country, from Safeway, Albertsons, United, Harris Teeter(I think), Walmart, pigglywiggly, Ralphs, kroger, HEB by far has a better selection and lower prices. Bad service! i went about 7:30am and only 2 check out lanes were open And the lines wrapped around! I had about 20 items so tried to check out at the self service. They said NO. I had over 10 items. YET, there wasn't a single person waiting at either of the self service bays. Not one! I had to go back into line (now longer! When I got up who was packing my bags but the mgr. I'm like why not? The bays are entirely empty. She gave me a dirty look and said that's their policy. She actually packed my bags, put my apples at the bottom and broke 2 of my eggs...guess she likes making customers wait in line...I realized at Walmart you get bad service, but it's cheaper and I get to pack my own bags and keep my produce and eggs in good shape. This is Mar 17, 2020, during the Corona virus panic and the lines for check out here are around 3 hrs if you're lucky. They refuse to set aside certain time for seniors only, the most vulnerable group for the virus, because, as you can also tell by where they put the designated parking for disabled, seniors are not their favorite customers. I hear Albertsons has set aside seniors only shopping times so will switch to them, although they don't carry as much organic items like I buy. But I'm 75 yrs and some health issues already and #1 I can't physically stand in line for hours, and 2) I don't want to fight crowds and be exposed to whatever virus is going after old and ill people. read more

The Midland HEB has been remodeled and expanded within the last couple of years. They now offer extra features such as freshly-made sushi, a natural foods/bulk foods section, a cafe where you can eat deli foods there, a larger book/magazine section and a specialty cheese counter. The prices at HEB are always fair; I have never noticed them overcharging on anything. They have a good selection of products but unfortunately can be out of things they normally carry based on the time of the week you go. However in recent months they seemed to improve on keeping things in stock. A good thing is that usually most of the cashier's registers are staffed and they are for the most part friendly and polite. My complaint about HEB is that except if you go very, very early in the morning it is often terribly crowded. The parking lot is usually always full out to the very edges. Sometimes I have shopped at other grocery stores even when I might prefer HEB just to avoid the crowds. I really think they could use another HEB location in both Midland and Odessa. They have a gas station which has some of the best gas prices in the region but just like the store, it's often real crowded and people are waiting in lines for gas. read more

Slightly more crowded than the one off the 250 but also has a slightly better selection so it's a wash, IMO. Keep in mind they have 2 stations for filling your water jugs which can be a godsend if many people are waiting in line or if one of then is down. read more

If you are trying to get curbside delivery at this HEB, simply don't even attempt it. Worst experience I've ever had. Was scheduled to pick up between 730-8pm. At first, there weren't even enough curbside spots to pull into, so an "unofficial" line formed at the other end of the parking lot with 5-6 cars in it (with some people not even following it and cutting the line when they wanted). It is now nearly 9pm and our grocery order is nowhere in sight. The extra cost of getting curbside is not worth it if the delivery is 1.5-2 hours delayed. This is the definition of bad management and a broken system. Hopefully HEB can figure out a good system to fix this issue, but I am very doubtful. read more

Today they are roasting fresh Hatch Peppers at the entrance. Smells so good. There is a big line. They do stuff like that here. They make fresh salsa and guacamole also everyday. I always get some hot salsa . They also make tortillas daily, rotisserie chicken and turkey. I tend to get a turkey at least ounce a week. I believe they have the freshest produce . They have lots of organic items. The most I've seen . They do have a bakery but I don't really use it. So I can't comment on that. Except that it smells really good in that area. The store is huge. So it takes a while to get your stuff. They have a cheese shop as they call it. Lots of different cheeses. From all over the world. The deli is one of my favorite places in here. They usually have Jamon Serrano. Such a great dried ham from Spain. They cater to high end stuff and regular stuff . Their milk is the cheapest in town. They have a great beer and wine area. Hundreds of bottles of wines . And they have lots of beers here also. I believe over a hundred to choose from. I like all the different beers they carry that are not domestic. They have those in bulk also. I like getting fish from here. They have great sales. It's a bit more than other places but it's as fresh as it is going to get out here in the desert. It comes in daily. And they also have frozen seafood . And that compares to everywhere else. They always have prepared stuff to take home and just cook on the grill or bake. They have the same in the meat area. I love their pre made burgers. So good. And if you like live lobster they have that also. They have a cooking show always going on. Always showing you how to pare up food with wine. Oh yes they have samples of wine also with the food. A great area to stop and see and try new stuff. I learned how to make a great steak infused with a new wine I had never had. They have recipes to take home. Today they are doing stuff with Hatch Peppers . I was told its Hatch session. If you come in. Must go to the butcher area. They make hamburger everyday. They have fresh brisket. And they will custom make you smaller portions if you need it. You must buy some pork chops here. So good. And thick. So its not frozen. They have a good frozen foods area. If you want that. But with so much fresh stuff why. They have anything you want. A great place to buy vitamins and supplements. They have a section just for that. Is right next to the bulk area. But that is where the coffee beans and nuts and dried fruit and vegetables are at. You can also get drinks with probiotics and chia seeds. They have a great amount of fresh juices. And not just the concentrated ones. They have lots of not concentrated juices. I love their Indian River Grapefruit one. Really good. And you can get Cuties Tangerine juices here. Oh so good. They do have some fresh squeezed oj that they do here. I get they sometimes. Its great for drinks. This place has something for everyone. They have a pharmacy and it looks busy all the time. So it must have great prices. Bad thing about here is that if you come in on Sunday it is very busy. But that's everywhere. And last they have the cheapest gas in town. Sometimes up to 12 cents. And if you buy a gas card its even cheaper. They have a line there also. But not too bad. Well I hope this helps. You have just walked with me while I shopped . Wait the lines here go pretty quick. Always have people that want to help. I was a doubter at first but I'm sold here. And for the people that use coupons they take them here and they make some that hang by the office in the middle . God, I wish we had an HEB like this at home! This one makes the one in Uvalde look like an Allsup's convenience store. And for those of you who have traveled in the panhandle, you'll get that reference to trashiness. Anyway, my brother and I went in to HEB today to get some sushi for lunch. I guess we're spoiled, especially after having eaten top quality sushi last weekend at Red in Las Vegas. This stuff wasn't half bad. I had a sampler that consisted of tuna and salmon rolls. My brother had the tuna roll. Even though it was made today, there's still no comparison to having it made while you're standing there. Went to this H-E-B initially is wasn't bad but we have to drive over an hour to do our grocery shopping here and unfortunately on my last trip some of the goods I got were all well past their expiration date!
