This is a cool and confusion design HEB; it has a parking garage, so I was uncertain if the main entrance was located on the first or second level. This is one of my favorite HEBs because I know the lay of the land, the staff is always so helpful, lines aren't too crazy, the parking garage is civil... and they have a bigger and fancier selection of goods than the HEB McGregor. This HEB is very convenient to my location and honestly, of the other two nearby (Montrose and Heights), this one is my favorite. The interior layout is solid, functional, and well maintained. I find the Montrose location to be my second favorite and the heights to be my least favorite of the bunch as it relates to its interior layout. Parking The parking situation is controversial to some, but I've found all locations have their struggles. At this location there is very limited parking out front at street level, yet for whatever reason everyone wants to park at this area. It always makes me wonder how many people think this is the only area to park? Or they are too afraid to go up the garage ramps since one of them is a bit narrow in size. People will wait ages for a surface parking spot, but a quick trip up the ramp of the garage and there's typically plenty of parking except for at the very high volume times you'd expect such as Saturday and Sundays or selectively during early evening times. My largest complaint is if you make the mistake of going to the surface parking area you're very likely to get "trapped" behind someone that will wait to park and going around them is difficult when there's usually oncoming cars as well. Ultimately, you just need to avoid the right side nearest to Heights Blvd. Just go to the back side or east side and you'll avoid the hot mess. At Montrose, the parking layout is odd in the center. I've also found that it tends to be more consistently difficult to find parking. It's not terrible, but it is consistently busy. At Heights, there is garage parking and the street level of the parking garage is always packed when I visit. Interior The layout at Washington Ave is very functional. Produce when you first walk in the main entrance with seafood, meat, bakery, and deli all immediately adjacent. This naturally flows into the beer and wine coolers followed by all of the aisle shopping, with dairy products on the back walls. I won't comment on the other locations layouts in this review, but those locations are older which may explain why they aren't as logical as this one. All businesses typically learn and improve as they grow. Service and Selection I've never had any major issues with finding what I need. Items out of stock tend to be replenished in a reasonable timeframe. The service is always willing to help if asked. There are a few products that aren't carried at this location compared to some of the others, likely due to sizing, but it's not significant. Pricing Look, everyone has their opinions on grocery pricing and where to go. I'm not going to say HEB has the lowest prices on everything, I know they don't, but overall when you look at the balance of quality, freshness, selection, and cleanliness you'll be hard pressed to beat them. There is a reason there is so much pride for HEB inside the state of Texas. Overall Look, I've lived all over the world and in many states. I'm not going to proclaim HEB as the best overall, I've seen some absolutely incredible grocery stores in my time, but HEB is definitely up there in overall balance. I'd be more than happy to see HEB continue to expand to markets beyond where they are now if I lived in those communities. They just offer a very good balance of everything. Their store brand items are absolutely fantastic many times. If you're looking for the absolutely lowest prices, maybe smaller selections, or lower quality items, there are alternatives. read more

I'm extremely disappointed with the way my brother was treated at this H-E-B. My brother has autism and worked here for 4 years -- a hard worker, always helped customers, always kind and willing to help . I'm not hiding that he made mistakes -- he did -- but he was always honest about them and took responsibility. What hurts our family is this felt very two-faced. Manager Roderick and Leadership Manager Shanon told him to his face that he was doing okay and to keep going. Then the very next day, he was terminated with no clear warning or meaningful conversation beforehand. From our perspective, they said one thing to his face and did another behind his back. He told the truth about his mistakes, but they were not honest with him. It felt disrespectful and dishonest, and honestly it felt like they enjoy hurting a good hard worker instead of giving a warning. I understand businesses have standards and employees need to do their jobs correctly. But employees -- especially those with disabilities -- deserve honesty, dignity, respect, and accommodation. If management had concerns, they should have communicated honestly instead of reassuring him one day and firing him the next. If you're disabled or an honest person looking for a job, please be aware -- from our experience, even one honest mistake led to immediate termination without a real conversation. This experience changed how our family feels about this location. We will no longer shop at this store. Very disappointed and unprofessional. DO NOT SHOP AT HEB BUFFALO HEIGHTS. HEB refuses to enforce health laws protecting food safety from live pet animals (excluding service animals) in the store in spite of complaints by multiple shoppers. Feel free to bring your dogs, cats snakes hamsters etc as emotional support even though it is illegal and posses health risks for food safety. The leadership team including Meagan walked away when questioned about food safety concerns stating only she was "powerless" to evict pets. Leadership team member JB stated "riding in carts, barking or defecating" are the only reason for immediate expulsion. Houston Health Department rules are not being enforced at HEB and pets are allowed free roam because of these policies. If you agree, DO NOT SHOP AT HEB until the health department certifies it safe to do so. read more

My friend said they called this club H-E-B. We went on the weekend and it was packed. It really was like a club. They have a lot of things that you can get a lot of things to try. The queso brisket is top-tier. I have yet to try the viral HEB Cronuts because I've had a cronut before, but overall this place is pretty decent. The meat is always fresh. I really love the burgers, particularly they have almost everything you need here even alcohol it's the one stop shop H-E-B really lives up to its name. read more

Lot of things can be improved, but let me tell you about my experience today. As I was shopping I decided to get some soup for lunch and I noticed they had Menudo (tripe soup) which is a popular Hispanic soup. I also noticed they had some Barbacoa as well, it sounded good to me of my breakfast considering it was 10:30am. Some menudo and Barbacoa tacos would be great delicious. I picked up some tortillas, an avocado, a few limes, and some other stuff I needed. When I got home I prepared everything and sat down to eat and to my surprise this was the worst menudo I ever had. It was bland, no flavor, no species, not even some salt, it tasted like water. Another thing about it is it was about 90% pozole and about 5% tripe, the rest was water. Nasty, nasty, nasty. This wasn't anything close to any menudo I had ever had. The canned menudo that I had when I was a kid was 100% better than this shit. HEB has been around a lot time and should know better than to serve crappie shit like this. Granted my HEB isn't in a Hispanic neighborhood, but shouldn't matter and there's no reason to serve something this bad. Anyone who eats menudo knows what to expect and this was a huge disappointment. The Barbacoa on the other hand wasn't that bad, moist like it should be, but a little bit dry on the tips probably because it had been sitting in the warmer. I guess it was the left over from earlier in the morning. The tortillas on the other hand were not that great either. When I brought them I didn't notice that it was a blend of flour and corn tortilla mix, I just wanted flour, but I wouldn't make that mistake again. Right off Washington Avenue, this is one of the better H-E-Bs in the Houston area. I pop in here at times when I need to grab some quick items in a pinch. It's a very clean grocery establishment with a variety of options, especially in the deli and bakery. Not to mention their packed sandwiches are quite tasty. That turkey w/ brie sandwich = love packed in a hoagie roll. Parking is a struggle and sometimes sucks. While I try to park in front of the store, I have to hit up the parking garage which gives me anger issues given how hard it is to navigate that claustrophobic box of concrete. Visiting in Houston and went to this HEB with parking above the store, really nice since the parking lot has the system with light above a space to show you an which space is occupied and which parking space is open.Made parking really easy despite a pretty full lot. Im usual HEB style -great produce, bakery and other departments. I'm an app person so I have the HEB app which allows me to make a shopping list and then it will put the location/aisle so you can find items quickly. Can't get any easier than that. Oh yes Halloween time and pumpkins for $4 and less, can't beat that deal . read more

I caught them over charging an item today and 2 weeks ago the same thing happened so I took an image and showed them. I noticed on my receipt at home another sales special was also at the old price. This HeB is nice to shop being so new, but the parking can be insane. If I'm in the immediate area I'll go here, but usually typically stick to Alabama or MacGregor which don't feel as much a cluster f$&k... This location does have some nicer seafood and beef, especially around the holidays. Otherwise it's about the same as the other stores in the loop. I purchased a couple of cans of cut green beans. I decided to use 1 can of beans in my soup today. I was enjoying my soup perfectly fine. I came across a large piece of bean and it turned out to be a green twig. I am disappointed to find this in the can. How gross is this. I guess if it looks green it must be a bean! Not a bean it was hard not soft like a bean! HEB I will be buying fresh green beans from now on instead of canned goods! read more

Enjoyed checking out a grocery store that is exclusive to Texans. I searched things that were unique to Texas when visiting and HEB "Henry E Butts" was one on the list of "things exclusive to Texas" The store was clean. It's a big grocery store with its own bakery and ready-made food options. There seems to be limited parking. I believe there are apartments on top of the grocery store which is neat but I was confused if the parking structure was reserved for residents only or not. As for the parking outside, it's pretty limited. I'd come here again for sure if I'm in the area! read more

This is my favorite H‑E‑B in the loop! It's big, has lots of selections, a plethora of food and other items...it's the best!! The checkout lines may be long but they definitely move quick. The store is kept super clean and the staff is friendly and approachable. The biggest con is parking. First floor parking is very hard to come by, don't come here on the weekends if you're in a rush. There is a parking garage attached, as the place is 2 floors. Overall, this place has a great selection of fresh food, items, and other market goods you may need. read more

Today, on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at 4:00 PM, HEB on Buffalo Heights Shopping Center I had an amazing experience at HEB that truly felt like the IKEA of groceries. The aisles were incredibly abundant, and I couldn't contain my excitement - I even playfully pinched my husband's arm, though he didn't find it as amusing as I did. Words cannot fully capture how cool this store is. From an escalator that effortlessly transports your basket to the garage entrance to a wide variety of products, you'll never have to settle for whatever is left on the shelves. My favorite section has to be the pre-made cheeseboards - I'm already looking forward to next weekend's movie night so I can pick up a gorgeous cheese board for just $24.00. While my go-to grocery stores are Whole Foods and Trader Joe's, I always make sure to stock up on snacks for my teenagers at Randall's or Kroger. However, on this particular occasion, my teenagers wanted HEB's popcorn chicken, so we decided to stop by this location since we were in the area. The checkout was fast, the aisles were full of endless options, the area was super clean, and the parking situation was very comfortable with an indoor garage and plenty of spaces. All the food and products were organized for easy access. Love love love it! read more

Located on Waugh and Heights as a central location for the Rice Military/Washington Ave crowd. Parking is a pain; the surface lot is almost always packed and there's little room to maneuver around. That sucks. The parking garage is pretty tightly packed as well. The interior is significantly smaller than Heights or Bunker Hill and is very cramped when busy. Selection is smaller than both as well. Is it newer? Yes it is, but it comes off as a HEB+ or whatever their smaller stores seem to be. Not a fan in general of this particular location unless it's a convenience that's worth your time. read more

I went on Valentine's Day and parking at HEB was a Dantean hellscape. The interior is great, the employees are nice, and the products (fancy cheese in a heart shaped container and flower pot shaped cupcakes) were gorgeous. But that parking is next level awful. The store has its own parking structure, which is not bad but getting their from Waugh is a struggle. Because you have to drive around the perimeter of the store to get there which is two narrow one way lanes filled with lazy drivers waiting on available perimeter parking instead of going to the parking structure or worse, mega jerks who in the midst of a heavily trafficked area, still decide making a 25 point turn to back into a parking space is their prerogative. Are entitled, selfish customers the responsibility of HEB? No. But a design that aggravates that selfish behavior is a characteristic of the store. And knowing that these folks constitute some of their regular clientele is probably something I would want to know. read more

So sad to say my experience in the HEB today was awful. A number of times we were pushed to the side while workers restocked. No "excuse me" or "may I get in there for a moment". This was a very busy day too. Also we were escorted to an checkout line and upon arrival we were not greeted as a matter of fact the cashier said NOTHING to us the whole time. Then when I paid I just have forgotten to accept payment. As I was walking off the cashier YELLED at me....YOU DID NOT PAY. It was not necessary. Baggers were also rude. I had my kids with me or I would have said something. I called later and spoke to Donald, the manager. He said the cashier was not usually at this store and that he would speak to her about this locations expectations. That's all good and well but shouldn't she already know HEB expectations? Not saying a word to the customer? Having an attitude the whole time? Maybe she needed a break or a snack. I'll think about going to this location next time. Bummer read more

Shop early to get Rock star parking on the first floor by the curbside pickup area. They open at 0600! Healthy and pretty plant, orchids, and houseplants by the front door. Good selection of fruits and vegetables. Easy to check out and exit. Highly recommended!! read more

Honestly you just have to go to ride the escalator down and then ride it back up with your grocery cart after a day full of shopping. If you're a native Texan like me you probably don't see these often, lol. Park inside the garage! The produce selection is always super fresh (it's sometimes hard to find good avocados at other stores but this HEB delivers) and even have my favorite Mexican cheese (Oaxaca- for quesadillas). I think the only thing I couldn't find was tajin powder? 10/10 recommend. You seriously need to ride the escalator with your cart lol. read more

I just read somewhere that H-E-B was rated the best grocery store in Texas, or America, or some large space. And I believe it after visiting this new showplace! Came here with friends who needed to pick up a few things and I was amazed at how awesome it is in so many ways: huge roomy fully stocked multiple options for everything super cheap prices friendly staff lots of free sample That's just to name a few. I realize that living in NYC and shopping in grocery stores the size of the deli counter at H-E-B, I don't have a broad perspective on what might make a store awesome, but I think by any definition, you'd be in awe of this store. On a side note, when I was a senior in college, a recruiter from H-E-B came to campus and I had a great interview with him. I got to then fly from Alabama to Austin for an interview. There were probably about 20 or so soon to graduate people in that day and I was the only one not from Texas. We toured their headquarters and then had individual and panel interviews. I thought I was doing great until the last interview when a couple of the interviewers kept asking me why I wasn't from Texas and how where I lived was inferior to Texas and I would I think Texas would be a place to live. As someone graduating in a few months, I just wanted a job, so I hadn't thought much about it. The upshot was, I didn't get the job and I knew it the second the guy said "Hmm, you're not from Texas". The point is, I didn't let that discriminatory experience sour me on this wonderful store. read more

Grand opening October 9, 2019 Let me just say... this HEB is SO FREAKING NICE. HEAVEN. Watch out West Alabama HEB, you got competition. The staff are so nice. They even give you a map of the place cause its so huge. Of course they have everything an HEB would normally have but the aesthetics of this place makes me want to come back just so that I can mindlessly walk through the isles. The garage parking is a little scary when you go to the ramp. I have a huge truck and even from time to time I get scared going up ramps of garages. Its like going to the Galleria and going up the mall garage. I'm just trying to be careful in not putting a massive dent in my car. Naw I'm sayin? But regardless, PLENTY of parking! Omg. The samples. Am I in Costco? Oh wait. I'm in HEB. Lemme skip lunch cause I'm getting full on samples. Give me 30 minutes. This HEB has their own little cute and quaint café. I noticed people working peacefully on their laptops or even reading a book! Lots of security and staff on hand! There's literally a grocery store on every corner of Washington Heights. You've got WalMart, Sprouts, Kroger, and now HEB. Great addition to the area! read more

My FAVORITE HEB! When you even begin?! They have a parking garage above the store meaning that if it's raining, I can drive up into the garage, get my groceries and then get back in my car without having a single drop of rain hit me. So amazing! The store is very well laid out - you can pretty much find everything easily. If not, one of their incredibly friendly employees is always more than happy to assist in finding things! The only thing that I would recommend for the company (this goes for ALL HEBs), is that when they have those combo coupons (first of all, who doesn't love those coupons?!) to either place the free item right next to the one that we are purchasing OR on the coupon itself, write down what isle we can find the free item. The employees are always so helpful when I need to find the free item but I think it would be easier for us (the customer) as well as your employees if you are able to give us better clues on where to find things. I'm not afraid to ask for help as some people may be BUT I also feel as if I'm taking time from what the employee needs to be doing so they can assist me. That's the only improvement I can really think of. Otherwise, great job y'all! Keep up the great work! read more

I recently moved into the neighborhood so I figured why not try H‑E‑B on a Saturday smack dab in the middle of the day (lol). So let's start with the parking... don't bother driving around the front perimeter... the fun is in the garage (literally and figuratively speaking). I say this because parking in the garage gives you the experience H‑E‑B clearly wanted us all to have... the escalator ride! There seems to be plenty of parking and provide you with the overhead red/green lighting system so you can quickly find your parking spot and get to it! Now... once you're inside... the fun police are everywhere (lol)... it's almost like people have forgotten how to exist with other people. This is more so about the customers and less about the store itself (this definitely isn't a dealbreaker for me... I may just opt for different shopping timeframes in the future instead of waiting until everyone says in unison... let's go walk aimlessly through H‑E‑B and kill everyone's vibe...lol). The selection for literally each and every section of the store is worth applauding (seriously... go to the H‑E‑B off 288 and Macgregor or the Pearland parkway location... there's always something missing). The employees are awesome! Roderick was so helpful and made my first experience at this location a reason to come back! Now... for the fun that I was waiting on... my ride back up to the parking deck with my basket... this will never get old for me... H‑E‑B leads in innovation, quality, availability and service. The lady spoke and guided my cart into place and off we went! If you ever see me going back down the elevator, walking around and doing it all over again... don't judge me... lol In all seriousness, the cart on the escalator is great but it's nothing without the service and the availability of quality products and this location provides it all... pack your patience, smile at the other people shopping (even if you're wearing a mask... we can tell), speak to the employees (they work hard to make us happy) and enjoy the ride. read more

Great grocery for inner-loopers! The set-up here is like the two story new H-E-B in the Heights, except reversed with parking on the 2nd level and grocery on the first. We bought our Thanksgiving turkey dinner here, and it was a wise (and delicious) purchase. I just love H-E-B and I've found that they are consistently good store to store. I love how close I live to this H-E-B and how it has so much here. This is located in a pretty busy area, so I definitely recommend avoid going during peak times because it gets super packed inside and is a little bit more difficult to find parking. It's "2-stories" and has a parking garage on the 2nd floor that you can park at. The actual grocery store is on the 1st floor though. There's also parking on the 1st floor too. I usually just end up going straight to the 2nd floor to park in the garage and then take the stairs/escalators down to the 1st floor. It has the escalators for the carts too, so after you finish shopping, the worker will send your cart up the escalator right next to you! read more

This is a big spacious HEB, with friendly employees. The parking can be a little annoying, but I think well worth it so that you don't have to have a giant parking lot. The products are good, but I feel like everything just cost a little more here than they do at Kroger. It really does fit in well with the area, though it is a little concerning that they always have security standing out front, which makes me think that there must be problems. read more

I have written HEB store management many times, but falls on deaf ears. A whole range of issues; expired coupons, mislabeled items, rotten vegetables, etc. The sub-par GEM lottery vending machine irritates me the most. They need to replace the GEM machine. It does not read dollar bills well. It spits back most bills. Occasionally they get stuck, and it completely shuts down. Then I have to call someone, wait another 10 minutes. Such a pain. Part of my grocery shopping routine is getting lotto tickets. If that doesn't work, I'm now VERY persuaded to visit the Kroger down the street. BTW Kroger's GEM lottery machine is excellent. Now I play a game. If HEB's machine spits back a dollar bill, and won't accept it, I place it in a section in my wallet. This section is solely dedicated to money HEB's GEM machine doesn't like. I now have over $300 in $1, $5, & $10 bills. In my mind, if my wallet is that fat, I need to grocery shop elsewhere. Yes, this upsets me. For something as trivial, and EASILY fixed, as a lottery vending machine. Especially since I've notified management multiple times, and spoken to the staff in person multiple times. I ordered my Thanksgiving complete dinner from here since I wasn't cooking for an Army this year, buying the package for eight people. The day of dinner after I picked it up, my son who was included in our group of eight diners texted me and said he had added four to the total since his neighbors had nowhere to go.. STRESSED!!! Unbelievably. The HEB dinner fed 12, although it was marketed for eight (2 were kids though). I was thoroughly pleased with the quantity and taste of the dinner. Thanks HEB! read more
