This H-E-B is a step up from a regular H-E-B but still not as nice as a Central Market. Prices are very similar to Central Market. So going to Central Market may actually be better in terms of getting your money's worth. 4**** star rating as follows: 2** star for food and product variety: The store was big, bright and well stocked. The samples were tasty. The product selections were plenty to choose from. 1* star for friendly service: the employees were super helpful and nice 1* star for quick check out: on my visit, all check out lanes were open. And the lines moved fast. Cool: they have a live band playing music outside. Outdoor seating was available to enjoy the music. Parking lot was large and lots of parking was available. Improvements: the indoors seating area (the cafe) was dirty and trashy. On the floor was used napkins and crushed crackers. So many employees were taking their breaks in this cafe area. But no employee cared enough to clean up the area. read more

I like this HEB! It's pretty on the outside and parking seems to be okay, although the parking lot is set up SUPER weird and not conducive to a quick in-and-out situation. I have been using HEB Pharmacy since this store opened, I was using the HEB on Buffalo Speedway prior and could not remember any pharmacy employees names. This is not the situation at MY HEB on Dunlavy, everyone knows my name, and Shannon is the best Pharmacist I have ever known. I worked as a Manager for a large drug chain for 20 years, and I know that the ability to be personal with a customer in a store that averages over 250 scripts a day is not possible. That is why I will only come here and look forward with dealing with Shannon for years to come. read more

This review is for the pharmacy. They're really nice and efficient. They do everything they can to get problems resolved quickly. I know reaching doctors' offices can be very difficult so I really appreciate the work these guys do for the customers. There were few times they phoned me to get my approval before proceeding with the prescription, which makes me feel comfortable knowing I won't have last minute surprises. They follow their timelines closely and have the patience to answer questions. read more

HEB is a grocery store so I'm not going to get as serious about this review as some of the other Yelpers but I DO want to say this: something that is absolute perfection about this HEB is the cashiers are all SO friendly. I used to go to the River Oaks Kroger and is it me or is every single person that works there surly as hell and seems like they are on the verge of a killing spree? HEB's friendly young cashiers are seriously such a welcome change. This may seem like a minor thing to love in a grocery store but it is nice to have some ask how your day is going and wish you a nice afternoon while buying groceries. Also I have been very impressed with how they always have a LOT of lines open instead of just a few. No matter what time of day I go I never have to wait too long in line because they really do keep it well staffed. read more

I'm upping from 3 to 4 stars because I noticed an improvement in the produce. Original review below. ---------------------- I really want to love this HEB but I just cant. Aesthetically - and given its close proximity to my house - its awesome. I mean if a grocery store can be made to feel comfortable, this is it. The customer service is top notch also. And if you're feeling like a crepe or even decent sushi, walk in. Solid Wine and Seasonings collections. Wide parking spaces so no idiot dings my door (I also really, really appreciate that the spaces are at an angle to allow people to get in and out easier). A bit pricey but I get it, I'm paying for those wide aisles and the choice between a regular or mini shopping cart. Unlike some of the stiffer stores (cough Randall's), I can also find most of those special, Texas/Louisiana brand items and ingredients to make everything from gumbo to crawfish etouffee at this location. That's so important. My problem: Produce/Bread/Fruit, it HAS to be fresher. Cherries cost me $12 (5.99 per pound), yet showing mold on Day 2. Yes, I purchased the expensive cut up watermelon tray and for $10, I need that not to be soggy. That's the worse and its happened on all but one occasion in past month. My green apple was horrible and is leaving with me a bad after taste as I type. Another recent mishap, my raisin bread. Sunbeam - the red freshness pack. While it says the expiration date isnt until Labor Day, it tastes like August 22ish. To the trash it goes. I guess one could say take these items back and demand a refund. But really, who keeps the grocery receipt? It gets loss in the bag. And who WANTS to go to the grocery store more than once a week. Now I do admit - maybe this is a regional/national issue at the moment. Maybe quality is just not right with these vendors. It's possible but I"m on the verge of looking for a Kroger. However, if HEB could get this together - I'll give them a chance this upcoming September. Then might just see that star go up to 4. I'm pulling for HEB; just not there yet. read more

This is my go to location for groceries. Weekends can be nuts with all of the people at the Alabama location. I try to go during the week to cut down on the crowds but that does not always work. The fruit and vege section almost has nice looking and sufficient selections. I like the fish and meats from HEB. My least favorite part of HEB is the deli. They just don't seem to be as efficient and customer service oriented as Central Market. They are slow and I don't like how they do not seperate the cheese slices with paper. Drives me nuts. hahahah read more

I have never cared much about which grocery store I go to until I got to Houston. HEB is just the best here, unquestionably. Price is lower, quality is higher, customer service is (usually) better. Kroger, Randalls, everything else . . . is just a joke comparatively. read more

This is the best HEB I've been to. There is always more than five cashiers open unlike other HEB stores I've been to. I never have to wait long to get checked out. I also like that I can get My Fit Foods here and organic fruits/veggies. read more

I was trying to find a place to get a custom cake made that wouldn't break the bank. I found an episode of "Deals" that featured H-E-B because it seems they now make wedding cakes! I didn't want a wedding cake, but something just as special. Stopped by and Daisy took my order and the print out of what I wanted. The next day I received a quote and the following Saturday I picked it up. Yasha, bakery worker, was so nice and rolled the cake out to the car. I came back Saturday evening to have some indecent birthday balloons blown up. Michael, store manager, was nice enough to do it since no one was in that area. Everyone we encounter at the store was super nice, will definitely frequent this store more! read more

The location of this HEB used to be an old run down apartment complex that i passed by all the time in the 80's when I was at Lanier. Found out about this store a while ago and have not gone to others since. That old HEB pantry in my old neiborhood is gone to me, nor have I been back to the yuppy HEB store near West U either. Glad they saved those magnificient live oaks in the parking lot, the architecture of this store is unlike a "box" store. Good fresh produce, meats, service. Don't come on the weekend unless you like crowds, it's packed with all busy cashiers. read more

May 11, 2014 at 1107am I have been going to HEB on Alabama since it FIRST opened and everything in the Store is fabulous -- no complaints -- BUT my big complaints is in the CHECK-OUT AREA == the people here have no BRAINS -- like today -- I bought 20 cans of soup -- I asked for Paper Bags -- and I asked for double paper bags -- what I got was a single paper bag with all 20 cans in a paper bag -- AS IF A SINGLE PAPER BAG is going to hold the weight of 20 cans of soup -- these baggers are just as bad as KROGER BAGGERS .... YES I SAID it -- no brains -- no sense -- no training -- whats the problem HEB read more

This HEB gets very crowded, so crowded there are times they have a traffic cop directing people in and out. On the plus side the parking lot is huge and they keep a ton of check-out lanes going. The store overall is well-kept. read more

I checked out the food truck event they do on Fridays and had a blast; a dozen food trucks ranging from filipino food to burgers to popsicles, plenty of beer and drinks, and live music! It does get a little crowded for this, so if you are in a large group you should get there early or be aggressive at locking down tables and chairs. As a few of us locked down chairs, the rest picked up a ton of food from the trucks (which also had long lines). Eventually, we went into HEB to pick up a few 6 packs to refill out cooler. Definitely a fun/different thing to do on a friday evening if you want a little variety! read more

Great location. Only a few blocks walk from my house. Staff is friendly and helpful. The store has a great selection of products and variety. They also carry some items most other doors don't. Certain varieties of coffee, beer, protein, and salsa for me. Sometimes parking can be an issue in peak hours. Store can also get a bit crowded, but I have yet to run into anyone being rude in the year that I've been shopping here. Checkout lines can be long but they're always fully staffed so it goes by quick. read more

This is a great grocery store. I don't normally bother to review them, but this is something special. To start, their prices are always very low and they have a fantastic selection. Their seafood department clearly stands out! I'm a CA native, so finishing good seafood is important to me. I love the king crab legs and sea bass they have here. Is not everyday you find a grocery store that sells it. The bass is a little bit pricy. But, it's worth it quality wise. It's much better than going to the local Whole Foods. read more

It's really 3.5 star but 4 will do. They have a pretty big selection for produce and mostly everything is fresh. They also have a good variety of exotic spices & herbs - except curry leafs, I can't them anywhere! There's now a coco'a crepes inside which I think is pretty good for a quick bite. The bad thing about this store is that they start to run out of things as the day goes on. On the weekends you have to go early as it gets extremely crowded around noon. Avoid that time on the weekends. One thing they can easily improve on is restocking. When they run of things as simple as almond milk they don't re stock which pisses me off but it's the best grocery store around so I've learned to live with it. read more

This is my go to HEB! Being right down the street from it doesn't get any better than that. Their Beer and Wine selection alone is better than any other one I've been too. The selection of organic fruits and veggies is a plus, along with great seafood and butcher areas. I will rarely shop anywhere else. Parking can be a issue if you go during peak hours or anytime during Sunday. I usually go after 10pm so i've never had a problem with parking. The combo deals and the low prices are probably the best in town. So if you can get past the parking I recommend shopping at this HEB. read more

They always have the freshest produce and the staff is so friendly. Whenever I can't find something they go above and beyond to help me find it and even go to the back if the shelf isn't stocked. The meat department is great and even though it gets crowded, they always have all checking lines open when they are busy and the wait goes very quickly. Parking isn't bad either! read more

I've been an HEB shopper for years and this is easily my favorite location. They layout is good, parking is more than adequate, and cashiers are always friendly. I frequent this HEB nearly everyday. It has one of the best location and is close to where I work. I grab lunch from their sandwich area. I love that they have unique events all of the time. Currently they are doing crawfish boils but they also have live music and food trucks. Tell me how much more a grocery store can get any cool than this?! This is the fun single flirty version of HEB to Bunker Hill HEB's traditional hearing toward family grocery purchases. At the Montrose location, you can grab a sausage on a stick at the stand outside the east door, then amble towards the single-person carts. This store is much more geared toward Organics, vegetarian options and gluten free products, as well as the conventional brands. I have been able to find a heretofore untraceable brand of veggie meatballs at the Montrose HEB. It gets gridlocked on Sunday afternoons and after work on weekdays, so be sure to hit up the HEB before 10-11am, or later after dinner hours on week days. read more

Im really excited to have a larger alternative to Kroger in the neighborhood... close to my house. The prepared foods section is great for lunch and they have pretty decent coffee. The people in the fish market are super knowledgeable and helpful. I love to go in on Sunday's when they have samples out. I'm a sucker for samples! read more

Didn't think I'd ever have to write a review for a grocery store but here we go. I went to the express lane and the guy at the register was talking to someone else at another register, and so I stood there for about 20 seconds until he finished (this is a long time when you're just standing there uncomfortably waiting for someone to acknowledge there). Without looking me in the eye he says, "paper or plastic?". I didn't even realize he was talking to me so I didn't respond. Then in a louder and more rude tone he asks me again. Even when asking if I want a receipt he didn't look at me. This is not how heb employees should act especially when the company places such a high standard on customer service. LASTLY as I was trying to leave the store the automatic doors literally SHUT ON ME and I was lodged in between the doors. It somehow opened after I struggled to push them apart with my elbows. My Experience with HEB west Alabama in a hipster area you would think the open mindedness would follow NOPE! if your me which is multi ethnic which is Something Houstonians seem to have difficulty accepting As I personally enter the store my experience started with awkward stares and obnoxious stalking around the store by The HEB staff from produce and rushed by cashiers when checking out as if they were trained like dogs to be aggressive and rude to alienate their customers who are different off of profile and stereotype so I'm getting the full impression that Houston is a TRUMP loved city as their markets seem to carry an 1950 southern segregated culture read more

As a native San Antonian I have always loved HEB. This one is no different. The workers are helpful, the produce is fresh, and they have great deals. HEB brand products are just as good as name brand and much cheaper. This HEB is so pretty from the outside ad the inside is clean and easy to navigate. read more

I love it! The nicest cashiers, fresh produce, great health food sections, protein bars always in stock, and the BEST guacamole in town!

You just can't go wrong with HEB. If you are in Texas, you know what I'm talking about.
