Went here after another location screwed me over..Went in at my appointment time, was helped within a couple minutes (less time than I waited outside the other location, knocking on the door). Was done within 30 minutes. My advisor was super friendly and took care of all my questions. Nice, clean office, unlike the Santa Anita location, which was tagged and looked like a soup kitchen. DO NOT GO TO THIS LOCATION I have never had such a horrible experience with doing my taxes. We filed here this year and are still dealing with the consequences today. When we filed we were quoted over $4,800 in owed taxes. We were shocked because my husband and I are young and don't make nearly enough. Our agent claimed there was nothing we could change and we owed this amount no matter what. Of course thinking this was our only option, we took a loan with the irs. This is when we found inconsistencies in our taxes. We went back and a new agent realized it had been done completely wrong. We now owed a reasonable amount. Unfortunately we already took out the loan so now we owe more to close the loan. read more

Let me just say I've never had such problems just simply making an appointment and I've been with H&R Block even worked with H&R block for 2 years and I have never received such poor customer service. Let me just say I never even had a chance to walk in the building. This was all on a recorded phone call, thank the Lord because the receptionist that I spoke to she is very touched and needs team counseling... when a person (a customer)on the phone is trying to explain their situation you collect the information you don't scream an individual or talk over them in the most horrendous high pitch voice possible...You don't say well it's not my fault (I even said no one is at fault here lets just make sure my information is correct) and I know for certain you.....don't hang up on a person ESPECIALLY if the customer is trying to defuse the situation to simply get an appointment...completely unethical I never got my services done. I ended up actually reporting this to headquarters and I can only hope that this person gets training or speak with God. It's a shame because this company is built upon great values. My family worked with this company for years and with uncertain times like this...just simply getting respect is too much to ask for? Its a shame. My husband went for the first time, on Thursday Feb.29, 2024, and saw Ashok due to his good reviews. He said he would have our taxes done by the end of the weekend. By the end of the following Monday, we had not heard from him so we sent a follow-up email. He replied that he planned on finishing out taxes that night. By March 7, we've heard nothing. So, again we email Ashok for an update. We got a phone call back requesting information. After that, we never heard from him again. We tried calling and nobody could reach him. We have been strung along and our time has been wasted. We do not recommend Ashok Savla. This is not the kind of experience you want when doing your taxes. Just terrible. read more

Came here for my taxes this year, since I had trouble filling it myself last year. This location has streetside parking that is pretty available. I made my appointment online, and they had a lot of time slots since they stay open late. When I arrived, I got to meet my agent Marina, who was a really nice Russian lady. I like doing things myself or at least understand what is going on, so I had a lot of questions about my taxes and tax info in general. I know I often digress, but Marina was really nice and patient, and answered all of my questions. I now understand my taxes so much better, and how to log my expenses better for the future, which I appreciated. This is my second review for just my 2020 taxed with two different locations of H&R in Pasadena CA. I first had my taxes done incorrectly by the Hastings Ranch location at 3827. I was very satisfied so the manager Ms. Awakian sent me to a second location at 953 Colorado Blv, Pasadena. They amended my taxes now saving me a substantial amount of money. NOW as of today, I have received a notice from the IRS stating my taxes were done incorrectly the second time and that I now owe an additional $6,000.00 in addition to what I have already paid in full. I have now filed two formal complaints through the corporate office. read more

My experience here was disappointing. I had an intial consult in December about my 2019 tax year. Due to COVID and other economic factors, I did not file this year until the last day. I made an appointment for July 15 and came with my paperwork ready to do what was a fairly simple tax preparation. The tax professional immediately shamed me for not coming sooner, which was irrelevant at this point. Then I was quoted me different prices than before, with very little attempt to discuss what products I actually needed. I was quoted over $400, and ended up walking out. I did the whole thing myself on Turbo tax for less than $150. Tip to H&R block: even if tax season is stressful, it's not helpful to shame people for coming on the last day when they plan to pay you money. You almost had my business. read more

F this place! Wow...don't do H&R unless you absolutely ABSOLUTELY have to. I'm shocked to be honest. My entire experience there was heinous. Firstly...once I got there my appointment didn't start till 20 minutes after it was supposed to. My tax person was nice but not really helpful. She was mostly apathetic to what she was doing. I was so regretful i came from the beginning. She told me that she couldn't get everything done that she had to and that I would have to come back later that night to continue with the process. Really?! So H&R...you're telling me that by making an appointment and doing my part that you needed me to do, you won't be starting on time and you won't be able to meet the expectations YOU, and I repeat, YOU promote and advertise? Pathetic and unprofessional. DONT GO HERE!! It gets better, the price for getting everything done came to $310!!! My taxes, mildly complicated cost me $310!! I was furious and truly felt cheated by a corporation. At least I'll be able to write that off next year. Once the evening came, she called me and was more helpful about every document I still needed to submit. I was understanding and the conversation started with me feeling a little better about the previous meeting we had had. Then it got worse. She then told me that she had gone out of her way to get my taxes done that night and that she was supposed to be out at 5PM if it weren't for me. REALLY?! I was truly offended. How dare you! All in all, Never and I repeat NEVER go here. Nobody, EVER. No other H&R either. Never this company if you want to get your taxes done right AND feel good about your decision. She explained the details on every amount written on the forms, discussed the changes to the amount and explained the reasons, she also point out in details the information of the existing and new tax laws. Good service. Nancy identified deductions my past accountant did not mention. Go now before the April rush. Once you make an appointment they email you a checklist of what to bring so you are prepared. If you forget something you can drop it off later. It cost the same as a professional independent accountant and fees are based on the complexity of you return. So a single person with no itemized deductions costs less than perhaps us, married filing with dependent care, itemizing, mortgage interest, etc. If they are running late it's not their fault. Our return was complex due to last years problems (which is why I switched, my accountant last year was lame), so I took an extra ten minutes. Two hour street parking until 6p. Also note: bring a hard copy of your prior return. I brought mine on CD but they don't use CD drives (to minimize risk). Maybe thumb drive, you'd have to ask. read more

I wrote a detailed review of the Pasadena H&R location but it seems they got it pulled based on a technicality. So here is my adjusted review for the PASADENA LOCATION H&R BLOCK (Just so that is very clear): TL;DR summary: -They are not helpful -They will not save you money -They are not more thorough or tax-savvy than TurboTax or even their own basic online service -YOU WILL GET AUDITED -Their guarantee is meaningless -They can't explain anything to you because they don't care and they barely speak English FULL ACCOUNT: For 2015 we decided again to get our taxes done professionally since our tax situation was complicated (multiple 1099s, W2s, etc). They charged $400 for their service and we did not have much to show for it. I felt like I paid $400 just to watch a sub-fluent English speaker go through the online service. I mention the poor language part because it was very frustrating that the accountant could not explain any of the tax process to us because he barely spoke our language. It was a bad experience, but probably not 'one-star' bad. That is from how they treated us after we got audited. The year before we went to the H&R location in Glendale for our taxes. Apparently the accountant who helped us (Sang Chang) signed us up for tax credits for which we didn't qualify, and when the IRS figured this out they wanted their money back. It took a while to figure this out, and the H&R employees were little to no help. Since we live in PASADENA now we scheduled appointments at the PASADENA H&R LOCATION to get the situation cleared up, but we were repeatedly blown off or canceled on after already showing up at the location. "Oh, you're missing a document. We'll have to reschedule." "Oh we don't have time right now, let's try again in two weeks." The customer service was execrable. After (no joke) SIX blow-offs over several months, we had had enough and did not reschedule. We found a local accountant (Jack Young in San Marino. Highly recommended) who squared us with the IRS and reduced the fee to $800. Also, when I asked the PASADENA H&R employee LLoyda if the amount we owed the IRS would be covered by H&R's No-Audit guarantee, she was noncommittal. She said that only qualified if an H&R employee was responsible for the mistake. I said well I think we have a pretty good idea it was the employee, since we paid him to do our taxes, and we had no idea what that education credit even was. She threw her hands in the air. "Who knows who is responsible!" I guess it's easy to remain doubtful when it's in your best interest. We had a superlatively awful experience with the PASADENA H&R. It was the inspiration for my first Yelp review, and after they got that taken down, my second Yelp review. I urge everyone to avoid this location and just do your taxes online. That's what I did this year and it was significantly cheaper and immensely less frustrating. Save your money and a world of trouble and DO NOT USE H&R BLOCK. read more

DON'T GO THERE ! As a non-resident alien, I highly recommend to seek for another tax consultant. H&R have the lowest professional ethics I have seen so far. You will be overpaying for the service they offer. Paying $200+ (after a "generous" discount of 10%) for 1/2h of work is just nonsense. My tax are very simple (one W2), and the whole tax return very similar to that of my previous tax year. My tax "expert" had to seek for help from the manager several times.
