Very nice and personable guy. Also, he is very easy to reach and very responsive even after normal office hours. He's helped me with two major tax issues over the last five years. The first was for an obvious error that the IRS made where the IRS claimed that I owed thousands of dollars in taxes more than what was submitted on my tax return. I hired Angel because the CPA who filed the original return was not very responsive. Once Angel got involved, he was able to contact the right person at the IRS and get it resolved over the phone within a matter of a couple of weeks. The second issue that Angel helped me with was with filing an amended return for my parents where the original return had major errors. Angel was very meticulous in making sure that we submitted the detail documentation needed with the amended tax returns to the IRS and to the State. He's very knowledgeable and detail oriented. This was a very complex situation involving hundreds of thousands of dollars in gains that the previous CPA erroneously over-reported. As a result of Angel's work on the amended returns, my parents received a large refund from the State, and with Angel's help, I am very hopeful that we will get a similar result with the IRS soon. Angel is a well versed and knowledgeable tax advisor. In my initial conversations, I was impressed with his insights and decided to have him prepare my personal tax return. However, a lot of yellow (and then red) flags emerged when I tried to understand his fees. He was incredibly dodgy when I tried to ask him how much his services would cost. I understand that tax situations are different and it is hard to assess them upfront, but even after seeing my prior year taxes and relevant documents, he wouldn't give me a straight answer ("Trust me, I will charge you a fair rate."). After he had finished my returns, I was very surprised to see the final invoice: $795. In my opinion my tax situation is not complicated: W -2 income, a handful of investment accounts, and one rental property. I appreciated his help this year, but I will not be returning as a client in the future given these fees. In summary, if you're looking for someone who is knowledgeable and who can be a partner, Angel *could* be your guy. If you are looking for a tax preparer for a fairly simple tax situation, he at least was not the right fit for me. Regardless, I would stress that you do try to understand his fees upfront (hopefully you have better luck than I did). read more

I'm so upset right now I can't think straight. I just got off the phone with the CA FTB who says I need to file an amendment to 2020 tax returns that Angel filed. I called them after receiving a notice of suspension which is strange considering I've been making payments. Turns out my taxes INCORRECTLY filed under my social and not the EIN of my business. Sooooo I have a credit balance the FTB under my social but severely delinquent in my business tax. Nothing was filed under the business the FTB records reflect ZERO earnings under my business. Angel - however you choose to respond to this review is irrelevant. Nothing changes the fact that I paid you in full to file 2020 taxes for my buisness and was told TODAY by the FTB that an amendment is REQUIRED for 2020 in order to resolve the open issue with my business. I signed up for this accountant because I needed someone to file my business tax and the glorifying reviews that I read here. I made a huge mistake. Don't get me wrong, the accountant was nice, but nice does not cut it if the business is disorganized, misleading, and I, the customer, ended up paying 3 times the quoted cost, and the service was not fully provided. Originally, I was quoted a cost of $300, assuming that I have all the documentation upfront. I provided everything this guy asked for and he disappeared for months, and I thought everything was squared away. Months later, I received a notice that I did not file my business taxes. I had to reach out and asked him if he filed my business tax and found out that I owed him an additional $600 +, which is close to a thousand dollars total. I read the invoice, which was a load of crap that does not make any sense, but I paid all in full because I needed him to take care of the business filing and for my own mental health. Months later, I received another notice from the state that my business taxes were not filed. Omfg! I reached out to his office numerous times again, to finally received a response from his admin requesting the same tax documents that I sent, which were saved in their portal, and also asked me for a copy of the tax return that they originally filed for me! The accountant then came out of the woods and told me that there were errors in the filing that I needed to fix, and the identifier used did not match the state, blah, blah blah and he told me to make the corrections by calling the state. I am sorry, isn't that what you were paid to do? File my taxes? Take care of these headaches so a paying customer does not have to? You were not paid to "make attempts" to file my taxes. You were paid to follow through and complete what you were paid to do! In the end, I had to go online and found out that my business tax was not filed, so I filed it myself, paid the late penalty fee which I should have done all this on my own instead of paying to close to a thousand dollars for this half assed service! If I could give this a negative score I would! What a disgraceful business! P.S. I hope this message will give a warning to others to fully vet the people you thought you could trust and a lesson learn for this accountant to do the right thing from the very beginning. read more
