Do not use this firm for your tax services!!! I used to use John about seven years ago before I was married and I never had issues. I stopped using him once I got married to someone who was self employed and we used another firm. Fast forward to this year and I'm divorced so I figured I would go back to using John. I had an appointment to file my 2018 taxes on 10/09/19. A few red flags that I didn't think much of at the time. John was extremely cold (whatever, I don't need my tax preparer to be my bff) and he asked for $395 dollars up front. Again, I used John several years back so there WAS trust that I was going to get the service I paid for. We go through the motions, he notifies me of the tax amounts I will owe the IRS and CA FTB (mindful I was 90 % done with filing my own taxes through turbo tax so I saw more or less what I was going to owe, I just wanted to get an expert to review and ensure I was taking advantage of tax deductions I may have missed, John saved me no money, I was better off filing myself) I give him my checking account info to go ahead and pay off my state taxes and he said he would send me confirmation of my tax submittals no later than Friday 10/11/19. I didn't think of it, but in previous appointments with John I would sign my e file forms and leave with a copy of my tax forms he submitted. None of this happened. I began to get really concerned when Friday came around and I heard nothing from John and my CA taxes had not been deducted from my account. I call John, no answer, all I get back is a text that he was in a conference and that he would be back to me Monday. Mindful that I'm 3 business days away from 2018 deadline. No information on if my taxes were submitted or even an email to give me a copy of my tax forms. It would have taken minutes out of his day to give me something. If I'm going to pay someone $395 for an hour of work (if that) I expect service. I wasn't asking for the moon and stars. I spent hours on the phone with the irs then the CA FTB to see if they had a record of my filing. They did not. It was only when I told him I was going to file a claim with my cc company to not pay the $395 fee for services not rendered did he submit my taxes. How do I know? The text message I sent John telling him this and his submittal time of my taxes were right after that message. He hadn't submitted anything that whole time! I don't have a lot of time to write yelp reviews like this but I was damn sure going to write one for this experience and hopefully save someone else from going through the same thing. read more

While we had great expectations with John, he did not live up to his professional word. He made a few errors which cost us penalties, missed the filing date and made promises to fix it all. Even now he has not contacted us to fix the many issues and we paid other accountants a great deal of cash to dig us out. While his demeanor up front was good, the end result was not. Disappointing. What a nightmare!!! Do not put your taxes in the hands of this incompetent tax accountant! John prepared our taxes for 2012 and 2013, when we met in October 2015 to prepare our 2014 taxes I discovered through our conversation that he had not carried over the depreciation from my previous taxes. This had originally caused us to owe taxes which we paid, only to discover now that the money was not owed. Upon this discovery John accepted responsibility for his error and prepared amended returns at no cost. For that reason we had him prepare our 2014 return. He missed our extension deadline but assured me he would pay any fines that were assessed. After one month I called both the state and IRS to see if our return had been processed only to find out that he never sent the electronic filing. After contacting him regarding this issue he assured me that is was a "hiccup" in the system and that he would file them immediately. That was five days ago and they have still not been filed. Fortunately I have a paper copy and will be mailing them my self this morning. Although I have questions regarding the return itself. My husband and I are going to investigate whether he is even a licensed accountant and it he is we will be filing a complaint to the IRS and filing a legal action to have all our of money returned. I never write negative posts. But people should be aware of this level of incompetence when dealing with something as important as their taxes! read more
