He then spent 2 hours in my home just to end up using Freon and charging $300. The issue still wasn't fixed, but instead of a refund the company offered to come back and repair it for no additional charge. Well turns out the issue was something completely different and they wanted to charge me $600 to fix what they told me would be no charge. But as a "courtesy" they'd deduct the initial $300 from when they didn't repair it first. After coming to completely rig and destroy my unit they harassed me for money and the unit went out AGAIN a week and a half later and will cost thousands to repair what they rigged together using zipties and leaving loose wires out. During that time I tried to trouble shoot the issue myself by replacing the capacitor and the switch block. Both did not yield any result. The unit was getting no power to it at all. I figured there was an issue with the Air Handler unit in the attic. I know that was going to be over my head. So I needed an AC person and did not know anyone in the area Solution: I called Precision AC based on a friend's recommendation. I am so glad that I did Scott came by with his assistant Rider listened to the issues and steps I took to troubleshoot. Scott also checked the wiring on the compressor unit and said that everything is pretty much in place. They looked at my Air Handler in the attic and found the issue with the unit. Scott says that a wired had burned out and blew the transformer. Scott and Rider fixed the issue and got the Air Handler unit working. Scott really knows his stuff around AC units. The blowing cool air was music to my ears. Results: If you want a expert on AC units Scott is the person to call. He will troubleshoot the issue and you will find his pricing very reasonable. I can't thank Scott and Rider enough for getting my unit fixed. They saved my from getting cooked in my own home.

My condensate pan wouldn't drain well and was constantly flowing through the overflow line, so I…read morecalled a major Houston HVAC contractor who replaced it with a shiny new pan put a high-water-level sensor for emergency shutoff on it. The pan still didn't really drain well, and the shut-off essentially turned my fan on and off on short cycles (because there was water in the pan) til the fan burned out. The major HVAC contractor then tried to sell me on rebuilding the entire attic system of my AC, which was 6 years old. I called 2nd Opinion (appropriately enough), and they actually reoriented the pan so it would actually drain down the main valve and not into the overflow, and replaced the fan for ~$300 (it did take two tries to get a new part that fit my system). While they are not the slickest looking sales people, they did find the root cause of my problem and fix it cheap, which I greatly appreciate.

While Yelp is no Angie's List, I'd like to boost the service provider category of reviews. Given…read morethat this is Houston, central air conditioning is akin to a Liz Lemon party*. Well, during our "winter", my compressor sprang a leak and spewed its 1994 Freon all over the Earth's ozone. Sorry. Anyway, since I had the luxury of shopping for bids during our winter, I opted to get 4 bids before deciding on a final contractor. Think of it this way: How often do any of us shop for central air/heat? I think we shop for cars more often so I wanted to be careful in such a big decision. Here's the rundown: * Fly Comfort Services: Recommended both outside compressor and inside air handler be replaced for $4,700. Cash discount of 2.5%. No charge for evaluation. Found these guys via a fellow Yelper. They were flakier than a Crisco crust on writing up the bid in a timely manner (not a good impression for all that money they wanted to charge me). * Comfort Star: Recommended both outside compressor and inside air handler be replaced for $4,500. Cash discount of 2.5%. Charged $45 trip charge. Found these guys via Yelp search. The owner (Mr. Khoury) was very patient on discussing details and the technician's visit was very thorough (about 1.5 hours). * AC Repair Houston: Recommended only the outside compressor to be replaced for $1,850. No cash discount. No charge for evaluation. Found them via Yelp search. Mr. Jack Jensen is the salt of the earth; actually mentioned that many of his AC brethren have reputations similar to used car salesmen. * M&L Air Conditioning: Recommended only the outside compressor to be replaced for $1,700. No cash discount. No charge for evaluation. Referred by my Realtor who I've worked with on the buying and the selling sides. Winner: M&L Air Conditioning! Mr. Atkins was friendly, down-to-earth, approachable, and informative. He didn't try to sell me on anything unnecessary and even pointed out the pros, cons, and secondary alternatives of the replacement options. He's so confident in his work that he doubled the usual 1-year labor warranty for free. He provided an arrival time window (10 to noon) but, unlike the evil Comcast, he arrived at 1010 AM for his projected 3-hour installation. He even finished 20 minutes ahead of the installation timetable, despite my periodic questions of "What's that?" I wrote him a personal check for the $1,750 once the Goodman 13 SEER 2-ton compressor, condenser pad, and programmable thermostat were installed and tested. With the blizzard of contractor visits, I've learned a lot about the old and new refrigerant standards, the minimum SEER ratings, air handlers, compressor-condensers, pads, duct work, and fair prices for all of these items. I also got pretty dang good at verifying their licenses at the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation website, too. I'm almost sure that I could get an AC contractor license easily with the volume that I know now. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got a date with my new A/C system to spend some quality time chilling things down. (draws drapes) * If you're a fan of "30 Rock", you'll recognize the line: "There's no party like a Liz Lemon party. And, a Liz Lemon party is...mandatory."

7/10/2026: I cannot say enough good things about Michael and Old Glory Mechanical. A friend…read morerecommended him to me in November 2024 when I moved into my new (to me) townhome and needed an AC evaluation. Right away, I was impressed by his professionalism, extensive knowledge, and down-to-earth personality. His pricing was incredibly fair--coming in lower than two other estimates--and he never felt "salesy," so I hired him to install my new AC unit. True to his word, he even followed up in the spring to make sure everything was running perfectly. Since then, I have confidently recommended Michael to family, friends, and neighbors because I know he truly cares about his customers. In fact, he once went above and beyond by making service calls to both my grandmother's and my neighbor's homes on Mother's Day! That level of dedication is almost unheard of these days. This past Thursday, my system stopped cooling. The inside blower wasn't responding--a component we hadn't replaced during the initial install. Back in 2024, Michael honestly told me I could get more time out of that part rather than trying to upsell me, which I deeply appreciated. When I called him, he kept in touch throughout the day and arrived at 5:15 PM. Even though it was late and a miserable 87 degrees inside my house, he showed nothing but a willingness to help. I also learned that Michael handles his own installations rather than subbing them out, which speaks volumes about his work ethic. He left to grab the necessary part, came back, and worked for a few hours until our home was finally cooling again. Michael is a hardworking, incredibly knowledgeable guy who clearly loves what he does. I will continue to use only him for my AC needs and refer everyone to him. If I had to sum up Old Glory Mechanical, it's expert knowledge, fantastic communication, fair pricing, and an all-around wonderful human being. You will not be disappointed with Michael or this company--there's truly a genuineness in him that is rare to find these days!
