There are [almost] no words to describe how horrible this experience was. I'll try to keep this brief, but I also think it's worth noting the experience start-to-finish in hopes that Home Depot will read it and realize that this company is WORTHLESS.
I scheduled my carpet installation for 6/28. I was told that it would be a single, all-day installation and that I would need to be there the entire time. The representative went over a list of items the crew could not move and we discussed the plan to move everything from room-to-room. I took paid time off from work and was told the installers would arrive between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. and they would call 30 minutes in advance.
Installation day arrived ... 8 a.m. comes, then 9 a.m., then 9:45 a.m. I called the company dozens of times and there was no answer. I called my rep (Cynthia) directly. No answer. I left several messages and finally received a call at around 10:10 a.m. She was super apologetic and explained that the crew had been calling the wrong number and when no one answered, they simply PARKED somewhere instead of coming to the house. I was in disbelief over the stupidity of that, but she said they'd be there in 10 minutes.
Another 30 minutes passed. Two men finally arrive around 11:40 with a *very* small roll of carpet pad and a slightly larger roll of carpet. I invite them in and discuss the plan for moving things from room-to-room. They nod in agreement and start wandering around. Literally, for the next 15 minutes all the did was walk around the house measuring things. I ask if they need anything from me or if we can start moving things and they nod. We begin moving furniture into the garage. Around this time, one of them pulls me aside and asked me to sign off on some paperwork. I looked over and signed off that the carpet is correct after looking at it. I left three boxes blank and handed it back. He asked me to sign the other three boxes. One said the installation crew arrived on time and the other two regarded the installation area. I explained that I wouldn't be signing the box that said they arrived on time, because they did not. Then I asked if the other boxes just meant that the area of installation was verified and he said yes, so I initialed those.
We got back to work moving things and he stepped into another room out of sight. He returned a couple minutes later with his phone and hands it to me. It's Cynthia from HOM Solutions who promptly informs me that they won't be installing the carpet today. I asked incredulously what she meant, as these men continued to move my belongings out of my house. That began what was about 30 minutes cumulatively of me arguing with her and her supervisor over the phone about why they couldn't install the carpet. During this argument, it arises that the crew doesn't even speak or understand English, which is why they couldn't communicate any of this with me, apparently.
Basically, the gist is that the crew arrived late and probably didn't bring enough materials, so they couldn't complete the job. Instead of taking responsibility, they tried to say my house wasn't ready because there were things they couldn't move. When I explained that I had run the entire plan for moving everything by the rep in advance, the supervisor just kept saying that that was a mistake.
The crew then left my house WITHOUT moving ANY of my furniture back inside. Yes; you read that correctly. A carpet installation crew came to my house late and unequipped for the job, moved a significant amount of my belongings outside, then promptly left me to deal with the aftermath ...
They came out a second time with a different installation crew, who was bad-mouthing their company with me the entire time -- apparently, in total agreement with how crappy of a business they're employed by ... that should really tell you something. They were great, and didn't waste any time, however, once again -- they were sent with not enough carpet pad. Instead of their company transporting additional carpet pad, they refused and instead had the crew return a THIRD DAY to finish the installation.
The crew also had the balls to ask me to sign off saying the job was finished even though it wasn't, claiming they wouldn't get their check if I didn't sign in advance and saying it wasn't "their fault that their company didn't send them with enough materials." I felt bad, but with this company's royal repeated screw ups, I wasn't about to sign off on anything in good faith alone.
Honestly, how in the hell is this company still in business? read more
