Service is slow (even though we were there with one other table of 3), 5 people in the restaurant totally. Drinks were terrible and they were simple my husband had a margarita and I had a mimosa. Food was under seasoned and out of a box (instant potatoes) and veggies were unseasoned for their "seasonal" variety. Husband had duck (over cooked which is hard to do) I had a filet (over priced) We're local and won't be back. At our local grocery stores we can make mediocre food for a better price. A nice quiet, hole in the wall restaurant! I've been wanting to try Gypsy Bistro for awhile and I had checked their menu and saw some specials that sounded amazing so we decided to pop in! From the outside this place gives a bit of old Sacramento vibes, so I was expecting some decent food. We first walked into this fire pit area which would probably be really nice to hangout in at night. When we turned into the bar/dining area it was a bit of a switch. It had a fairly dark ambiance and a ma and pa energy with a touch of industrial. We sat in a separate area in the back left, but it was nice since we were a bigger party. The staff was decent, as they were quick to get us started once most of us were there. I loved the calamari since it had a firm texture with a really crispy fry. I'm not a huge fan of tentacles and don't do that well with more chewy textures. The bread they gave us to start was a bit heavy in the garlic, but it was still delicious. I don't normally see char lines when I eat garlic bread, but I didn't mind it here since it gave it a slightly smokey taste that helped cut through the garlic. My scampi was the perfect portion. The chicken was moist and the green beans had a good amount of salt on them. The dish almost had a homemade feel but in the best ways. The reason I give this place 4 instead of 5 starts is for the following: small piece of hair in my food, server brought out the topic of our ethnicity in what I found to be an unusual conversation, and the server handled packing our food with the use of her bare hands. There really isn't a ton of harm in the things I just listed, but I can't in good conscience give this experience a perfect score knowing that these things happened when it's not commonplace in most dining establishments. Something to note though is that I chose not to bring up the hair. It was small and on one piece of chicken. I still finished my food and there was no point in making them make another one. If you find yourself in or near Lockeford this is a must place to stop. They are located at the Lockeford Winery in a renovated 150,000 gallon concrete wine tank - super cool! If you visit read the history of the restaurant on the back side of the menu - inspiring story and of the roots and the community. In addition to the cool location, the food is absolutely amazing. We were traveling back to the Bay Area from the Eastern Sierras and checked yelp for a local place to stop and found this hidden gem. Thanks to Yelp and to all those who have previously left reviews. It's one of the best meals we've had and reminded us of one of our favorite restaurants in Florence Italy- Quattro Lione (if u find yourself in Florence this is a must stop and eat here - you won't be disappointed) Back to Gypsy Bistro Everything is made with fresh ingredients in house (even the desserts) We had 1) beef pappardelle - this was so savory and melt in your mouth delicious. It was the kind of dish you slow down to eat so that you can savor and enjoy every bite. It was a special of the night but we were told it's a frequent special so hopefully you will visit in a night where it appears on the menu 2) Pan seared salmon with the creamy polenta and green beans - salmon was cooked to perfection and the sauce was very pleasant and not too creamy. I dipped every bite in the sauce. The polenta was the creamiest I've ever had and the added corn kernels added that extra "je ne sai qua" element that elevated it (I'll be adding that extra touch to my homemade polenta even though I don't think I can get mine to taste this good) 3) dessert we tried the orange bread pudding. I love bread pudding but hadn't had it in years. The bread pudding itself had a rich but not too dense texture and the orange sauce and whipped cream (served on top) were out of this world 4) starters (how could I have almost forgotten) we had the fried calamari which were "cuts" from calamari steak cooked to perfection and served with the best cocktail and tarter sauce. I typically don't enjoy tarter sauce but would this one any day 5) cocktails- the manhattan was extremely delicious. Had we not been on a long drive home we would have both been drinking! The wait staff was very attentive and friendly and knew a lot about the menu. First time here after many years of saying we'd go. Was the wait for food a little longer than normal? Yes. Was it worth the wait. A definite YES. Cocktails and appetizer came quickly. Great Old Fashioned and yummy artichoke spread with nice crispy bread. We read ahead and knew everything was cooked to order so expected a little wait on the food. Boy, was it worth it. The mushroom tagliatelle was *delicious*, but the lamb chops stole the show. So tender and juicy and seasoned to perfection. It's obvious they put the time in to make the food special. The blonde female however can never answer one question about the menu, specials, happy hour or anything else for that matter.If I ask a price she doesnt know. I wish she would take her job more serious because I really do love the food and ambiance. But sitting in her section is more than frustrating and stops me from going in at times. This restaurant always has the best food you can get around here. It doesn't matter what the menu has for that day, you'll be happy with whatever is available because the owner knows good food and wants to provide only the best. My favorite is the mac n cheese. It's the best. I've enjoyed every soup I've ever ate from here as well. The prices are a bit high for me so I tend to choose whatever the daily special is. If you're interested in steaks or seafood there is always an option on the menu as well. Those options are the more expensive options that I don't usually get. Maybe one day I will because I know it's the best around here for sure. Today I ordered the meatloaf special that comes with whip mashed potatoes and steamed veggies. This is a beautiful place! The inside dining area is very intimate and the courtyard looks like it would be a great place for live music and dancing (hint, hint to the owners :-)) Our waiter was very personable and attentive and obviously enjoys working here and being able to serve excellent food! My husband had a jambalaya risotto which was tasty and had excellent texture and I had the shrimp and grits- normally not my thing but I wanted to try something new. This was an excellent choice! My wife and I came here randomly one night when we weren't even hungry because we wanted to try it. I really like how different the setting is and the warehouse/winery feel. The appetizer we had was ok. The shrimp and grits was pretty good. However, the whiskey sour I had was pretty bad and, although it wasn't a big deal, they never brought a salad and still had it on the check. We might come back. My husband would have given one star and the star is based in the price of our dinner. I told him that is not ok because the food was and service was great! I had salmon and he ordered rib eye , which what was labeled the "special" for August. We were seated in the entry bar area, which was fine. Again... the food was great, as was the service. But we got the bill and what was once a $46 steak, is now $62 and sadly, the price was not a mistake. We understand that times are hard for businesses and want to patronize our local establishments, but times are also hard for customers just as much and unfortunately, we will not be back. As my husband mentioned, there weren't even tablecloths on our table and it was just a bit disappointing because after a long work week, we just wanted to go out for a nice dinner... and we got that! But we felt it was just too overpriced and that's unfortunate for us. We really liked the bistro and have taken friends with us on more than a couple of occasions. Let's start with the service! Host and waitress were amazing as was the service there. Always was prompt to give us our drinks, food, refills etc. Location - so I really am not familiar with this area at all, but it was relatively easy to go to. It's in an old winery, but reminded me of like a slaughter house (lol, i don't know why). Bathroom is two buildings and across a parking lot away, but wasn't too bad of a walk. The inside is incredibly small, think small hole in the wall restaurant. Drinks- I had a strawberry lemon drop and was basically buzzed from drinking half of it, but it was so good!!! My mom had the Italian and drank her whole thing and finished mine off. Food- Apps- Garlic Bread - Mom said it was the best garlic bread ever, but I wouldn't eat it because I despise chunks of garlic! Garlic Fries- my son loved them and the entire plate was ate. CALAMARI- hands down, the absolute best calamari any of us had ever had. Better than fresh SF calamari from the restaurants on the piers- seriously, you need to order this- you will not be disappointed. I also had a side salad to start, it was huge and their balsamic dressing was amazing! My entree was the herb roasted chicken. I chose angel hair and green beans as the side. Chicken was ehhhh- some parts were moist, others were dry. Angel hair (plain) was incredibly tasty actually and then the green beans were really good too. Overall, it's a unique restaurant, with great staff and service and really good food! Returned to Gypsy Bistro because of the wonderful meal I had the last time I was there. We were seated right away, water took a bit to get to us, drink order took some time, got appetizer in a good time. Wondering where my salad was.... Waitress was no where to be found. Finally when I did find the waitress I had to ask for my salad. She said oh sorry. Wanted a second cocktail, no one was there to ask. Finally dinner came by another waitress, still no salad. Finally my salad came after I had eaten 1/2 of my dinner, told her to take it away. Second drink never offered! Bill came...salad was on it, had to tell her to take my salad off! I feel like I'm blaming the waitress but I'm not so sure it was her fault, she was one of two waitresses handling the whole place. Maybe the owners should take note! First of all, DO NOT LISTEN TO THE BAD REVIEWS! This place is awesome. I have been several times and never have had a one star experience. This spot is located off of a country road beside a winery. They're located inside of an industrial building with seating available outside as well. When you walk in, it's spacious, very rustic and bespoke. The lighting is always set very soft and everything has a beautiful glow set to it to make the ambiance. The ceilings are tall so it does tend to echo and get loud in there from time to time when there are a lot of people there. It's a female run business who believe in farm to table cooking. Every meal I've had here, I've never left disappointed. There's usually two male chefs churning out all the plates in the kitchen and they kill it. When you join the gypsy bistro for dinner, keep in mind everything's made to order, and it's a small staff. So if you're expecting a rushed meal with rushed service, you won't find it here. This place is meant to be enjoyed! I always start off with some cocktails and place my salad/app and entree meal all at the same time. They tend to always bring out the salads first, then the app, and then by the time that's finished and you've had another drink, dinner is served! I saw a lot of reviews saying how they thought it was really overpriced. In my opinion, not at all. You get amazing quality food, fresh, and served beautifully in the middle of Lockeford. We have nothing nice like that in this area and it's such a treat. In my opinion it is on the nicer end, so you are seeing that reflected in the pricing. The staff is always so warm and friendly. The service is always great, even when they're busy running around, they always make sure you're taken care of. DO NOT GO HERE. I don't even know where to start with this review. We had been excited to try the restaurant since moving to lockeford but it is a huge regret. We originally asked for a table outside, and were seated at a table clearly made for four people turned sideways and wobbly as heck, not at all practical for a two person experience. We had no room to move a chair and sit next to each other and could barely hear each other over the other conversations happening. So we asked if we could be seated inside. Our direct waitress was a sweetheart. Completely understood our frustrations and took us inside. The other waitress on the other hand seemed very bothered by the change. We ordered crab cakes and they were good. I ordered the BBq chicken and my husband the Smoked Ribeye. What a horrible decision. The chicken had absolutely zero flavor and zero char. It felt like boiled, season-less chicken that had bbq sauce poured on it. The ribeye was thin and full of fat. The menu said it's at market price, but $68? For a low grade piece of meat, handful of spaghetti and some vegetables? I think not. The only reason for even getting one star is because I had to give a rating to post this. read more

Stopped here with my family. Call first because they did require reservations on a Saturday. It's a really cute place and employees are very helpful and friendly. Everything looked clean and neat. The BBQ chicken ($22) was really good, but I was very disappointed in the potatoes. They were very thin and runny. My group seemed to enjoy their food, but same issue with the potatoes. The bathroom is quite a distance away in another building so be aware if you have someone in your party who has mobility issues. I would definitely give this place another try. We went there just because of the reviews on Facebook. We were not disappointed! Food was great! Service was good, small kitchen, but didn't take long to get the food. The tables are in an old tank so it echoes a little bit. I am a little hard of hearing so it wss a little difficult for me to engage in conversation.
