Great place for some southern staples. We were a party of 6 and we couldn't resist ordering fried…read morechicken and catfish. Fried chicken was really tasty with a perfect crunch and juicy chicken. The fried catfish was breaded with cornmeal, perfectly crispy, also well seasoned and very moist and tender inside. The tartar sauce was homemade and very good but they also have a good peppered vinegar. Between us all we had an opportunity to try a lot of sides. Hush puppies which one of our hush puppy lovers said was the best she ever had (I'm not a fan of these overall so I can't really say). The potato salad was very good, creamy, with just a hint of onion and relish. Baked potatoes and sweet potatoes were enjoyed by all. Loved the crispy okra and green beans. Collard greens were also good. Of course, we couldn't leave without trying the pies. Caramel apple walnut was a little too nutty for me but it was still good. They key lime was my personal fave -- the crust was a good crumbly graham cracker that was definitely home made. We also had a lemon meringue and the chocolate coconut cream pie, which was essentially a half and half with chocolate cream and the bottom and coconut cream on the top. Both had beautiful, moist meringues with nicely toasted tops. On top of good food, we had a great waitress who was super attentive and very patient and friendly. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area and looking for some nostalgic, good southern comfort food.

However, they were very friendly considering our late arrival and I don't blame them for being out of the good stuff at closing time. Ordered a cherry pie the next day. It wasn't cheap but it was really good.

https://www.facebook.com/Cupcakeables…read more First off I met the owner of this little "at home" business at a Farmer's Market in Ocala Downtown. and OH MY GOD! These cupcakes are absolutely to die for! The best hands down that I've had in Ocala! She is an at home business run based on the cottage law, I think it's called. Her cupcakes seem a reasonable price. I've seen other cupcakes in the area go for like $2.50 a piece. I think that's a lot. Although Cupcakeables doesn't sell individual cupcakes ( you can buy 1 dozen of the regular sized cupcakes or 2 dozen mini cupcakes) if you do the math they are about $1.75 a piece for the regular cupcakes and $.75 a piece for the little ones. The cupcakes are nice and moist (not dry like some others I've tried in the area), and the icing is more buttery than sugary. I tried her Jake's Cakes, Strawberry Margarita and Chai Latte. The Jake's Cake are a must for chocolate lovers!! A chocolate cake filled with a creamy chocolate filling and then a chocolate frosting! It's heaven! Strawberry Margarita was cool looking! Strawberry cake with a lime frosting. Loved the colors and tasted like a real Strawberry Margarita. I understand she will put the tequila in if you request it! Score! And the Chai Latte was just like eating a Chai Latte! The spices were nice and not overpowering. I am ordering her Peanut Butter cupcakes for next week!! Can't wait as I am a peanut butter lover!! She fills them with a peanut butter truffle filling!! O...M...G!! All of her cupcakes are made to order. She has lots of flavors to choose from and especially encourages you to request a flavor you like if she doesn't have it on her list! I am a big advocate of small businesses!! Will definitely go back again!!! Her Facebook page is much more active than the blog I found. https://www.facebook.com/Cupcakeables

The main wall is covered in a variety of doors, which is so different. They had plenty of tables, and they were all full. Rightfully so, since the food was amazing! Their menu was very extensive with a lot of nice options. When our server Sarah came to the table, she read off the daily specials. They had so many specials!! Appetizer specials, drink specials, and the list of dinner specials was pretty long. Must've been at least 5 or 6 of them. I kinda felt sorry for her since it took her a full 5 minutes to go over the specials. They did sound amazing though!! We split an order of the Ahi Tuna Tostones appetizer. Wow was that good. They served 3 tostones with a lot of ahi tuna cubes and they were very flavorful. For dinner, I ordered the Grilled Mahi with fries. Two good size pieces of fish and the fries were very crispy. The Mahi was very moist and had roasted garlic cloves which were so yummy. It also had a small side salad with Brussels sprouts that was tasty. My girlfriends both ordered the Shrimp and Mahi Pasta and said it was very good. The place was packed so make sure you make reservations well in advance. I know for a fact that I will be going back there next time I'm in Crystal River!!
