I was invited to dinner by a friend who wanted Italian food. Since it was her choice she chose Gusto. She said she had heard many good things about this Jax Beach staple. Gusto is located in a large strip mall with easy parking. There are several tables outside if you like the parking lot view. When we stepped inside I was brought back to my childhood. This is how Italian restaurants looked back in the day. White table cloths, red candles, and dark paneling. The place is pretty large and deep with a nice size bar. We waited up front for a good 5 minutes while the hostess was staring at us, chatting it up with someone. I was worried this was going to be the mode of the evening, but it wasn't. She took us to the side where they have maybe 10 booths that are kind of private the only thing I didn't like was that it's super dark in the corner. Our server came over immediately. She was super professional and friendly at the same time. She told us it was happy hour until seven and there was a discount on some wines and drinks like Negroni's and Aperol Spritz's. I ended up ordering a martini based on the fact that the server said they had blue cheese olives. My drink was very good and so are the blue cheese olives. The menu is pretty large with all your typical Italian dishes and some a little different. I do not eat pork and I try to eat seafood when I go out but most of the entrées that had seafood also had pork in them. I asked the server if they can make it without, and she said yes. Salad comes with your meal here. The salad was fresh and crisp. I really wanted some bread with my salad but the bread arrived after we finished them. I ended up ordering a pasta pappadelle with scallops in a lemon caper sauce. I asked them to hold the pork on the dish which they did. The dish was quite large and very good. My only critique would be a little less sauce. It was kind of swimming in the sauce, but it was very tasty and the scallops were delicious. I also ordered a side of what I thought was broccoli rabe. I really like it and don't make it at home. As I remember it was written on the menu as Broccoli Rapini or rapini @$12. I thought that was a little steep for a side but I ordered it anyway because I really like it. Like I said I don't ever make it at home. I questioned the server about it before I ordered it and I thought she understood that I was asking if it was broccoli rabe. The dish came and it was a side of broccolini not broccoli rabe. It also was a tiny order, especially for the price. This was my only disappointment. I will chalk this up to miscommunication between myself and the server. My friend really liked her dish as well. We liked it so much & ate it all so we were too full for dessert. I noticed on the menu they have a special Sunday dinner for two for $60. This is an old school place that I bet has been around for years. The food was solid and the service was good. I'm glad we tried it.

Love going to GUSTO's to dance on Thursday nights. Sidewalk 65 band was terrific. Our waitress was excellent but GUSTO's food is some of the worse Italian food I ever had. Tonight I ordered something simple thinking there is no way that they can screw up spaghetti and meat sauce or bolognese. I couldn't find the meat in the bolognese or our server went to the kitchen and put meat sauce of top. The cook must mince the meat into molecules since I couldn't see the meat or taste it. It was inedible . I paid $26.00 for this dinner and that is obscene. My $13.00 martini became $14.47 on my bill. One of the other people at the table was also overcharged for their apersol spritz. The server did correct the tabs. They added on a 20% tip (we had 5 people). They also added on an extra fee for using a credit card. I haven't found one dish that I can eat there. I am second generation Italian American and know how it should taste. Go to Bella Vista or Vito's for decent Italian food.

Made it right in time for the live band, Class Act to start. Reserved a table and was seated right in front of the band. Hostess was very friendly and seated us right away. Our server, Brooke was personable, but left me waiting for her at every step of the meal. Drinks were almost always empty. On to the food! The complimentary bread was okay, but nothing that any of the table had interest in despite us all being carb fiends. Ordered the calamari appetizer, which was perfectly cooked without any overpowering flavor. The marinara was the perfect compliment to the sweet crunch of the calamari. I ordered the meat tortellini with the panna and peas. Sauce was creamy, but lacked depth. The tortellini was soft with a nice chewy texture, but again lacked any meaningful flavor. I couldn't even tell you there was a meat in it or what kind it was. Did not have the flavor of house made pasta. Wouldn't order again, but wasn't terrible. Peas were the best part of the dish. Hubby ordered the lasagna. It was smaller than expected, but packed full of delicious ricotta. Marinara was again a star! Not a bit was left on the plate. Teen ordered the linguine con cozze. There were a pleasantly large amount of mussels with the dish. Flavor was well seasoned and married together well with the sauce. Server freshly grated Parmesan over the all dishes. Tiramisu had a good chocolate flavor, but lacked the gentle punch of espresso I was hoping for. Ladyfingers disappeared into the mix. A little smaller than expected as well. The band was absolutely fantastic! Played different styles and nailed some pretty epic harmonies. Definitely recommend the entertainment!

The happy hour prices are fantastic! Seriously such a good buy. The portions are hearty and the food is yummy. By the time we got the menu for happy hour we had already ordered non hh drinks so that was a slight hiccup but all in all I would definitely be back. The bar service is good just need patience depending on staffing. The ambiance is light and fun.

The staff here is lovely and they have some great food and drink deals throughout the week. The food didn't knock my socks off but it was still tasty and better priced than most Italian restaurants in the area. What I would order again: - Gusto Meatball Parmigiana - Gnocchi Alla Romana

Every time I have her I have to flag her down for a refill, she'd rather show ppl photos on her phone or her tattoos . Now if she's behind the bar I'll get a table.

Well, I have to say that this restaurant can compete with the best in NYC, New Haven, and Providence or Boston! First and foremost, the service was top notch. The attentiveness and efficiency of our waiter was the best, but to top it off, 2 of the owners each came to the table to check on things. This is something that stands out today. I love it. The atmosphere was comfortable yet refined and the place is very clean. The dim lighting is a point that my wife appreciates in a restaurant setting, but our seats were probably the least lit, (our backs to the front window) and our old eyes needed our phone lights to read the menu, haha. The Arancini was perfect and we loved the marinara. My veal dish was magnificent with it's perfectly cooked, large and very tender cutlet. My wife fully enjoyed the Pappardelle con Vongole nero and I thought it was phenomenal. We can't wait to visit the best Italian restaurant in JAX again, when we return in October.

Another great meal! I love that I can go in and enjoy gluten-free deliciousness without worry…read more Always always always get a reservation! I used to absolutely love this place. It was our go-to for seafood, celebrations, family dinners,…read moreand special occasions for years. We recommended it constantly and genuinely enjoyed supporting them. Unfortunately, after our last few experiences, that loyalty is completely gone. The problems really started during a dinner visit with my spouse. We had a reservation for two and specifically requested a booth because my spouse has herniated discs and booths are much easier on her back. The hostess with glasses told us there were "no booths available for parties of two," so we were seated at a tiny two-top directly in front of an empty booth. Minutes later, another couple - who apparently didn't even have the correct downstairs reservation because Wheel House was closed for a private event - was seated in that exact booth instead. When I politely questioned it, I was told they were "accommodating them." Interesting, because apparently accommodating a medical issue for customers with a reservation didn't matter. Still, we decided to give the restaurant another chance for Mother's Day. To their credit, we were seated at a booth this time after I both noted it in the reservation and called ahead to confirm it. Our waiter was someone we immediately recognized from a previous visit, and my parents mentioned he had waited on us before at that same table. Somehow, from that comment alone, he became convinced we were related to Chef Tim Tillus. From there, things got bizarre. He kept talking about "Timmy," mentioning reunions and saying he used to live with him. The restaurant was extremely loud, and my father had forgotten his hearing aids that day, so honestly we could barely understand what he was talking about. We just smiled politely and focused on asking about the menu because we truly had no clue where the conversation was going. Eventually, he came back and realized we were NOT Chef Tim Tillus' family. He then explained that the kitchen staff had apparently been laughing because the chef saw us and said, "That's not my family." So somehow this became a whole ordeal in the kitchen over a completely innocent misunderstanding. We laughed awkwardly because what else do you do at that point? But honestly, the whole interaction felt strange and unprofessional. Unfortunately, the food was even worse than the awkward service. My spouse ordered the all-day seafood soup, and somehow there was basically ZERO seafood in it. That alone was shocking because their soups used to be incredible. My father ordered the broiled platter, and the portion size was honestly embarrassing for a $29 dish. His parsley potatoes consisted of literally five tiny cubes - my mother counted them because we were in disbelief. We have eaten here for years and NEVER saw portions this small. I ordered the fish special, and it was nothing like described. It was supposed to have pecans and blackening seasoning. There were no pecans, no blackening seasoning, and the fish itself was dry, bland, overcooked, and flavorless. For $32, I was served what looked like a tiny sad pile of fish in the middle of a giant empty plate. The pork chop looked beautiful but tasted absolutely awful. At this point I honestly don't know if the kitchen quality has completely collapsed or if nobody is checking food before it leaves the line anymore. Either way, it was terrible. My mother ordered scallops on the half shell as her meal - something she has enjoyed there many times before. This time, the scallops were tiny and somehow greasy. It was shocking these dishes were even leaving the kitchen. What makes this so disappointing is that we truly loved this restaurant. We weren't casual customers. We supported this place for years because we believed the food and experience were worth it. This wasn't just a mediocre meal or an "off night." This was a genuinely terrible dining experience from start to finish, made worse by the fact that it happened on Mother's Day. The service felt awkward and disorganized, the portions were insulting, the food quality was awful, and there seemed to be zero quality control happening anywhere. At this point, our money will be supporting other establishments instead. It's honestly sad because this place USED to be special. I sincerely hope management fixes the kitchen, consistency, and overall professionalism before even more longtime customers walk away.

She always said it was more kid friendly than the Mandarin location. So we went. I have NEVER been so disappointed & disrespected by the level of service than at this location. We have never been so we were unaware that this location was similar to the downtown Jacksonville location. 1) We came in and we were not greeted. 2) No one explained to us that we would need to go to the left side of the establishment for full service/full bar. We ordered our food and were given a number just like the downtown Jacksonville location. We sat outside so we can watch our little one play, but apparently we chose the wrong side of the outdoor eating area. (No barrier to distinguish between the 2 sides) We were told we could NOT eat there. The server explained that this is for full service only. I wanted to order more as we were hungry. I thought, perfect. I can order an appetizer, a cocktail, and get my son some gelato while we waited. Again, we were told we can't eat here OR order food OR sit here. Mind you, out of all the 15 tables (both sides) only 2 were occupied. We were told, "You can't sit there either. (NO SIGNAGE TO DISTINGUISH THE 2 SIDES!) AND NO YOU CANNOT ORDER FOOD. You have to sit over there." Then the server asked, "Is that ok? (With an attitude). I informed the server, "NO. IT'S NOT OK." She didn't say anymore as we moved several tables over to the "designated area". This was our first time at this location & it will be our last! There was no apology or explanation that we need to go back inside to the front of the restaurant. None. We had no idea we entered the quick order side (there's tables on both sides.) I went inside & asked to speak to a manager. He explained that there's a hostess on the other side of the restaurant, (apparently there's more than one entrance). He said that someone should have explained it to us & said he would speak to the server. That was it. Nothing else. He tried to seat us in the full service but it was too late. I was so mad at driving 30 minutes after work, (I was still in my scrubs) to get treated that way that. I packed up my family of 3 & left. I am still so angry at the level of service I received. It was a huge disappointment. I hope that the Durbin Park location (once built) will have the level of service we are accustomed to receiving.
