Between us, we had scrambled eggs with cheese, eggs fried over-medium, bacon, French toast, pancakes and potatoes. Everything was decent. I wished that the cheese had been cooked into the scrambled eggs and allowed to melt, but that was okay. Also, the texture of the breakfast potatoes were like mashed potatoes that had been smashed and burned on the flattop grill. We weren't a fan of those. Overall, the place was cute and quaint and the staff was friendly. Everything was priced very reasonably as well. Also, anywhere you can find the locals at is usually a good sign!

She basically threatened to move us back outside and told us we were "holding the table" even though we would have never done that. Instead of giving me the opportunity to explain to her we would have done takeout anyways had he not arrived(but he did because again, it was a 45 minute wait), she just continued to talk over me. It made all of us very uncomfortable and the first 10 minutes we felt very on edge and unwelcomed. She then did the same thing to our ninth person when they walked in the restaurant 5 minutes after. He had no idea what had already occurred and was also caught off guard. Most of us worked in this industry in the past, and we thought we were doing the right thing by letting her know. Thank you to everyone else who helped soften our experience. It was very appreciated. Every person who brought a dish to our table was extremely kind. The chicken noodle was homemade with plenty of big carrots, celery, egg noodles and a bit of chicken. It was good. Could have used a bit more chicken but it was full of veggies and tasted good. Plus it was hot. Love it. Salad came and it was a decent size. Also lots of veggies. It was just enough food. And the price was great under $8. The Greek salad could have been a bit larger. I thought it looked a bit skimpy. But Kathy got a whole chicken breast cut up. She sub's out the gyro meat. Again dressing was homemade and really good. This place isn't for everyone. If you choose price over quality, you'll think it's ridiculously…read moreoverpriced. If you don't value the difference between well-prepared food and bad, you'll also balk. My in-laws would have hated it: "They want me to pay $11 for three eggs, bacon, home fries and toast?!?! I can get a dozen eggs for $2.50 and a pound of bacon for $3.50 at Aldis..." My sister thinks of food as fuel. She's fine with breakfast at McDonalds, or whatever diner is closest to where she's staying. She'll also microwave a can of hash and a frozen omelet. Her husband is always dieting; he'd say the portions are too big. If you like to eat-- and you care about what you eat-- Southside diner is pretty wonderful. Everything is made from scratch. Portions are large. The recipes are flavorful and uniquely spiced (even the coffee is from a local roaster). This has positives and negatives; you might or might not agree with the decisions made in a recipe. For example, the "breakfast tacos" contain fried eggs, chorizo, red onion, pepper jack cheese, pineapple, chipotle sauce & cilantro (the last one means I can't touch it-- cilantro tastes like soap to me). On the other hand, I love their take on corned beef hash. Also, if this matters (not everyone cares) the pancake batter is different than the waffle batter. Because the kitchen is enormously busy, they get enough practice with unusual orders that they can deliver many things other diners whiff on. Like your eggs over medium or poached? No problem. They know how to make hollandaise, too. We enjoy having breakfast, so we can't speak to the burgers or salads. The four soups we've tried have all been good-to excellent. We often get a sandwich or two to go. The things that cost them a star : They're almost always really busy, so it can be difficult attracting the attention of a server is you need something, or something went wrong. The buttering of the toast is erratic. And, while I understand the need to make a profit, the cost of some of the add-one are high. 75 cents to add onions (not grilled) to an omelet? $3 to add blueberries or chocolate chips to your pancakes? Ouch (Strawberries or bananas I get.) It's still worth the trip. And the cost.

In fact, if you ask, they have a separate vegan menu with tons of choices, making it easy for everyone in our group to find something appealing. The atmosphere has that classic small-town neighborhood bar feel--casual, comfortable, and full of local charm. The service was friendly, attentive, and quick, which made the experience even better. We ordered the vegan pierogi dinner and the meatloaf dinner. The vegan cheese in the pierogies wasn't our favorite, but the dish was still very flavorful and enjoyable overall. The meatloaf dinner was a generous portion and absolutely excellent--comfort food done right. Between the welcoming atmosphere, diverse menu, and great service, The Rowley Inn was a delightful find. As for everything else, this little diner is definitely locally owned and locally loved. It was only a few minutes from the farm I took my bf to go apple picking on the far east side of Cleveland. FYI!!! - The menu online is incredibly outdated!! Each thing is about 50% more expensive. Use the attached menu pictures to get an accurate idea of prices in late 2025. This is no longer a cheap place to eat. :( After about 15 minutes of waiting, we were sat at the counter right next to the cash register and could hear everything the staff said. I was enlightened as to how terrible they are treated by stingy, entitled customers. I felt terrible about my impatience at getting seated and getting our food but it seems like all the staff and cooks were just burnt out today. They still did a pretty good job at making yummy food though! My bf got a skillet with home fries and wheat toast. This was a lot of food and the toast was very thicccc and very heavily buttered. I ordered a gyro salad with tzaziki sauce and it came with buttered triangles of pita bread. Since we weren't prepared for the price changes, we just got water to drink. We both were shocked at how LARGE the portions were! The gyro meat was so good and the pita bread was nice and lightly buttered. My bf was a huge fan of the sausage in his skillet. Because we didn't want to leave the food in the car for a few hours, we ate everything and did not have leftovers although we could have! Not sure how well my gyro salad would taste as leftovers though so it was probably best I ate everything. Lastly, I made sure to thank them and tip generously. I hope everyone else there did the same. I ended up paying about $42.
