Delicious donuts! They had a wide variety of vegan donuts to choose from! I got 1 to eat in the shop with hot tea, took 2 for later. Comfortable seating area! Staff was helpful in choosing what to get!

Yum! Guru is a downtown Boise staple! I've been going since they were located on Capitol Street. Their new location in the Idanha bon Main Street is more spacious. My go to is the hipsterberry. My husband loves the Boston cream pie. The donuts always have incredible texture and flavor! Of note, they avoid artificial ingredients. Looks like they've changed ownership a few times, but thankfully I haven't noticed a difference in quality. Currently, their hours are 7 AM to 4 PM on weekdays and 8 AM to 4 PM on weekends

It has been forever since I have had a donut from Guru. I don't think I have been in since the remodel. Guru was a hit at my wedding! Instead of cake I had a variety of donuts. Everyone couldn't get enough of them. It was later in the afternoon when I stopped in. I was in the area. I wanted a sweet treat so it was only common sense to come in. Since it was later in the afternoon, there were still a couple donut options available but not a lot. A couple sprinkled donuts, chocolate glazed rounds, chocolate bars and some coconut ones. Honestly, they all still looked hella good. I snagged a small chocolate glazed donut. It had fun sprinkles on top. The shop was getting ready to close in about 30. I sat at the window and smashed out my donut. I'm sure it was made this morning but it was still soft. It tasted so good! I probably could have had a couple more but I only needed one. I don't remember the donuts being as small as they are. This donut was pretty small but the ones I've had in the past seemed bigger. It has been a while since I have been in so I could be wrong. Eating that donut today brought me back to my wedding day. I can vividly remember how excited everyone was grabbing a donut from the "cake" table. It's amazing how something as simple as a donut could make someone relive some of their best memories. I'm happy I stopped in today. It was a great way to add a little happiness to my day.

Been here a few years back, I noticed the inside changed a bit as well as the menu. Still pretty good, I had the Alice in wonderland donut and a sandwich. Service was amazing, it was our friends birthdays and they let us bring balloons and gifts inside for her! She loved it!!! The vibe is chill, casual and quaint!

Really wish I could give 2.5 stars, because I have some Jekyll and Hyde feeling on Guru. The good. If you have allergies. There is no better place for donuts. I appreciate their efforts here and I suspect it's a top reason many choose to come here. Additionally, the staff is willing to ensure cross contamination is not an issue via new gloves, new sheet, clean boxes, etc. And the donuts themselves are very good. This place is really good for those that want a donut without risking anaphylactic issues. The bad. Starting with "to go" donuts, they stack the donuts. I acknowledge there is no way to ensure donuts don't touch (and this is not about the allergies, they will definitely put those in separate boxes), but some of their donuts have juicy or otherwise easily transferred toppings. Although delicious, especially if you like that flavor, they become inedible if you don't. Another inconvenience is the bathroom. It's not in the restaurant, rather, it is down some stairs, down a hall, and you must remember to get the key (not the most welcoming walk). Finally, parking. It's not great. There's paid parking in a few areas, but not always convenient. In the end, Guru is solid, and I would recommend it. But I'd also recommend targeting your visit when you are on foot in town, when you have time to eat there, and preferably find a restroom in advance.

Guru donuts is always consistent. Always fresh in the morning with lots of choices. The breakfast burrito is delicious. Ordered avocado toast for takeout, and they gave me a breakfast sandwich instead. Didn't realize it till I got home. Was delish though.

**Guru Donuts ** in downtown Boise is a treat to behold. You walk in and the vibe is cool. There are so many places to sit and relax and lots to look at. There is complementary water with cups to have with your doughnuts. A cool mural sits on the wall, there are seats to look out on the street and plenty of room for a crowd. The unassuming building on Main Street houses a business who's motto is " both food & life should be fun." Eating donuts here at Guru is fun experience. They open at 7 on weekdays and 8 on weekends. I tell you this because I didn't give it much thought till I arrived 2pm and donuts were scarce. For the best choice in doughnuts go early! Regardless, lucky me , my fav Boston Crème were still available. This donut was ooey gooey and had the perfect chocolate topping. The filling is the best Boston Creme filling I have had anywhere! We also tried the cup of donut holes that are the essential and tasty on the go treat. So good, light & fluffy. Another good one is the High Priest. A bacon topped glazed donut that not only looks good but is tasty. That bacon trend was from years back but the salty and sweet still works so well. Of course there is coffee. The day was too hot for that for me. There were breakfast type things to eat but it was afternoon. So, for us it was The donuts! Just go here!

I ordered The Sandwich which includes bacon, eggs, white cheddar, onions, and more. The decor is modern and hip. The two workers were the sweetest. The sandwich was $10, seemed like a great deal to me, also seemed to be fresh. There is also a vegan option. I have the menu pictured in one of my photos. There is ample seating available on a weekday, comfortable chairs, good wifi network.

I have very recently been hired to be a tour guide for a walking ghost tour in downtown Boise and I was just walking my route before I actually begin taking groups of people to the locations on my tour... the Idanha apartment building is one of the stops and located inside the building is Guru donuts. I had never tried them before and wanted to give them a try after seeing an appealing menu. Service was great - and fast! I had the hipsterberry donut which has a glaze made with blackberries, blueberries and lavender- OMG so freakin' tasty! I also got a small Italian soda with coconut and lavender flavors which was also pretty good! I noticed on their menu board that they also have avocado toasts and I think I'll need to try that, one of their coffee drinks and a vanilla coconut mini donut next ! I will definitely recommend them to friends and to those future friends attending my tours !

Cool shop, great service, and fun flavors, but if I'm ordering a Boston cream doughnut, I expect more than a literal teaspoon of custard. Boston (lack of) cream was 5/10 at best. Other doughnuts were good. read more

Really cute donut shop. Prepare to spend more than you normally do on a donut. But their donuts are better than average. I paid $3 and change for their OG donut - like a glazed donut. They are more dense than your average glazed donut and larger too. This is a great place to come sit and chat over a drink and donut. read more

This is a good donut joint! I'm not sure if we went at a poor time, but I had expected a bigger variety of donuts! When we went there wasn't a huge selection. That being said - the ones we did get were delish! They had a really good flavor combination, and we enjoyed the ones we got. The environment is super unique and cool. Very colorful and fun! It was a good volume and there was a couple small families hanging out inside! It was nice. read more

I was jonesin' to fix my sweet tooth so I checked the local listings. I saw the word guru and it caught my attention. I thought, well, that's bold. So I figgered why not? After a stroll through beautiful downtown Boise I found Guru Donuts nestled in a historic building with tall spire like thingies our front. I'm a sucker for old architecture. I walked up a short flight of steps and saw a cool little eclectic business. They have a simple menu , or donut case, with 13 different donuts reneging from strawberry shortcake to your simple iced cake donut. I opted for their yuge apple fritter. And wow! Lightly iced, chunks of green apple, with a touch of cinnamon hit my taste buds like a feather drifting through the breeze. It was soft, not to sweet, and the chunks of apple were perfect. Now to my coffee. Iced caramel macchiato was blended perfectly. Not to sweet, not to strong. If you find your self in Boise and have a hankerin' for a donut and java, look no further than Guru Donuts!!!!! Wait, does that make me a donut guru? read more

Worst job EVER! Insanely rough environment for the bakers. Always has been low-no staff. The work load has had bakers quitting. We ALL vocalized the work load was too much. Nothing changed. More work got put on the bakers. Last week I worked 17 hour shifts 2 days in a row and I was still told to do more, go faster. I cried during most of my shifts because I was so stressed and my body couldnt handle it. One baker should NOT be making donuts for ALL guru locations alone. Daryl intentionally sets her staff up for failure. Guru keeps closing because all of the staff keeps quitting because the work load is too much. It would be nice if someone cared. Because doing everything you can and being told its still not enough is the most defeating feeling. read more

Came here because of the Yelp elite event and ended up taking some donuts home so I could snap a few delicious pictures for a client. The best part of this donut shop is definitely the location, right in downtown and the views from their store make you want to stay and hang out. I got a Boston cream donut and it was pretty good, not my fave for donuts but the only local place I've tried so far. I think the donuts may be Vegan... not sure but they were definitely really sweet. I also took home some other flavors and my husband said he loved them. read more

I started ordering donuts from Guru through Uber eats because I was unable to find anyone else at the time. I love their donuts. I like the Girl Scout and the hipsterberry. I went to Guru and saw other flavors like The Strawberry Basil and The Lemon Blueberry that I would love to try. I am a huge fan of donuts and Guru by far makes the best donuts. They also make a good mocha. There is also beer and wine here, which is really weird for a donut place. Brunch? I like the location. The building was once a bar that has been long gone. They turned this building a nice place to sit and have donuts and coffee. read more

Yum! Delicious donuts! Lots of options for various dietary needs. Super friendly employees and a great place in downtown Boise. Go early, I went about 9:30am on a Friday and there was still a decent selection of donuts, but options were dwindling. I tried a Drumstick (vanilla cake donut with chocolate, vanilla and peanuts). I also shared a mocha chocolate donut with a co-worker (chocolate cake donut frosted with a light coffee flavored frosting, drizzled with chocolate frosting and mini chocolate chips). These donuts are just as pretty to look at as they are delicious to eat. When I'm in downtown Boise again this will definitely be a place to stop. I can't wait to take the hubby down there - he loves donuts more than me! read more

The donuts taste great if they're cooked all the way through. This is our second experience getting donuts for our family, and coming home to raw donuts. Every donut we purchased but two were raw and we couldn't consume them. If they could perfect the cooking of the dough I would give them a 5 out of 5. read more

I no longer walk in ignorance. My dark donut days are over. On the wings of a particularly luscious, freshly frosted maple bar--I have found donut zen. I have reached donut enlightenment. And, my people? Maple bars aren't even my favorite sort of donut. Guru Donuts pairs quality with culinary inventiveness. The result is delicious goodness that will leave you donut delighted to a level that will give you the inexplicable desire to stand up, throw your arms in the air, and shout Amen. I mean...how about trying a little Chai Caramel donut? Or a sea salted chocolate bar? Or, my hipster darlings--how about a deep purple posh pretty known as the Hipsterberry? Want to kick it old school? They have one of the best old fashioned glazed cake donuts my taste buds have ever been introduced to. It'll spin you right round, baby, right round. All that deliciousness and no preservatives or artificial colors. Even all those pretty little sprinkles are dyed with fruits and vegetables. Well done, Guru. Well done. And, hey--bring the kiddos! They even have a story time series on Tuesday mornings at 10am (and again at 10:30am). While the kids are fed and entertained, you can have a much needed cuppa and well deserved donut. I'm an Apple Fritter connoisseur! I've resorted to making my own at home because I can't find consistently great ones anywhere, until now! This place, hands down, has THE best I've tried! I'm almost 60 years old and I spent the first forty years of my life in the Portland area and this beats any Portland area Apple fritter. To me without consistency I won't rate something, in three days I had one each day and they were each amazing! The service is excellent as well. One negative, at least for me is that you ask for tips prior to even eating the food. Tips should be based on service as well as quality of the food. Asking ahead of time is wrong in my opinion. Prices are also a little steep, however I don't mind as much when the quality is this high! I can't wait for my next visit to Idaho! read more

This is what Albertsons could offer if ... well, no it isn't. These are craft doughnuts, even if they can't spell. Not as good as Voodoo, but top quality for Boise. I had a strawberry - filled cliché and a sea salted, dark chocolate bar. Both were good, although the salt on the bar was a bit too pronounced for my taste. I should have chomped the cliché from the back side. It played out Newton's law of motion: what goes in must come out. I hope they're able to keep up with what I expect is steep rent a block from the Idaho Capitol. Great idea to share space with Boise Fry Co. Parking is easy on the weekend, but I expect it would be crazy on weekdays. Go to one of the nearby parking garages where the first hour is always free. read more

These donuts are going to bring the end to my skinny days. I absolutely love the vegan hipsterberry. With the sweetness of the sugar and the subtly of the bread to neutralize the bitterness that berries can have, you are left with a balanced and tasty donut. Food: 4 Service: 5 Value: 4 An average donut shop. We went for HH and loved that there was a deal going on and got to try some more variety. The cake donut though didn't taste as dense and as a cake donut should in my opinion. The other choices were also just too full of sugar for my liking. Would say if you're looking for an easy donut that's not from all the other big name fast food places, this is definitely the spot. read more

Okay, so five stars you may ask? Really? Yup! Not only were the donuts tasty but they offered more traditional donuts as well as interesting flavors like Key Lime and Earl Gray Tea with Lavender glaze (my choice this week!). In addition, they offered vegan donuts and ones that were actually pretty darn good with a good flavor variety considering. Another unique feature that I appreciated, while I didn't purchase as I was full, was the nitro coffee on tap as well as kombucha on tap. If I had been less full from my breakfast, I would have taken a go at trying those products right quick! While extremely busy and full of families, we had a place to sit rather quickly and the decor was fun to look at while munching on our sweets. I'm definitely going to have to go back for more! read more

All of the flavors of doughnuts are unique and amazing. They have samples cut up on the counter, and I wasn't tactful at all because I tried a piece of each one. I bought a variety, including some I sampled and some I didn't. My favorite was the mango filled doughnut. There is cool doughnut art on the wall made my local kids, the shop is clean and the staff is inviting. If you need to use the restroom, it's kind of weird because it's in a deep, dark hallway in the basement (slight exaggeration, but it feels like you're walking in an underground tunnel into Narnia). read more

Guru Donuts is perfect. Great selection, speedy and helpful service and great vibe. I was pleasantly surprised. I thought the prices weren't bad either for the quality. If you're not used to gourmet donuts, you might experience sticker shock. I really liked the vegan Hipsterberry and would highly recommend it. read more

Well we made a point to find a good yeast donut ! Guru Donuts did not disappoint ! It is in the corner of Main Street Boise and worth the drive today ! Such a cool building and great service from the moment we walked in ! We were welcomed by a clean cut young man . We told them it was our first time in ! We were offered samples ! Yum ! We chose a Girl Scout donut and the yummy huckleberry berry type donuts ! I can see why both are addicted ! Something so unusual in that glaze ! We also took a pecan glazed cinnamon roll donut home ! I'm more a fan of a traditional, yeasty, sweet donut. But damn if Guru hasn't done a nice job of melding hipster donut craft with a tried and true donut taste. I had the Hipsterberry and the Lemon Poppyseed cake donut. The berry icing on the Hipsterberry was flavorful and not overly sweet. It would have been perfect with a jelly filling. The lemon donut was very much like an old fashioned cake but with a slight lemon taste. I'd like a tangier lemon taste. But overall both were delicious. After 3, it's buy one get one. Which is super cool. But sometimes they run out of donuts well before then. So be warned. Friendly service and clean, cool atmosphere. Guru is a go! read more

I really don't understand why everyones loves this place so much. It's a glorified, try-hard hipster cafe that centers their focus more on how the product looks rather than tastes. I've tried it several times thinking my next experience will be better than the last. It never is. The donuts are dry and don't taste special in any way. While I do appreciate their vegan options, I have had better. My experience went further downhill when I placed a pick up order and upon entering the store was ignored. When I finally got someone's attention she had the audacity to tell me I had to wait in line - for a pick up order that I already paid for! All you had to do was quickly grab it and I could be on my way but instead you're saying I have to wait 10+ minutes to pick up an order that was ready 25 minutes ago? Absurd. Isn't the purpose of order online for pick up for me to save time? Well that didn't happen. Thank goodness Boise offers other donut shops. I would continue to give this place more chances, but after this experience, I have decided to give up on Guru Donuts. Please don't think this is the only donut joint in Boise that you must resort to - there are plenty others!!! This shouldn't be Boise's go-to donut shop, sorry read more

I was so excited to try out this place while in Idaho since it was highly recommended and I saw all the flavors that they had. We arrived early, because other yelpers said that they run out of flavors pretty quick. Upon arrival I was disappointed. None of the flavors I wanted to try were available, there were only about five flavors. We still got donuts, but they were just okay. read more

Came into the shop this week with my parents who were visiting from out of town. The shop is cute, large, and open. Plenty of places to sit. Service wasn't the best and kind of confusing. My daughter of course ordered the chocolate sprinkles which tasted like any other donut. My mom and I shared the Boston cream which was VERY good. My dad ordered the cherry pie and it definitely tasted like cherry pie though he said he could have taken it or left it. I'd come back in the future but I'm definitely not super impressed with the whole experience. read more

Nice seated area, cute name,nice Guru mural, donuts, nothing special but fresh. Took them over 10 minutes to get my ice tea to me. A guy even brought one over to ask if someone dropped it off. The new decor is horrible. That is the least of the issues now. We used to come every weekend get our vegan donuts and 5 birthday cakes a year in the large donuts - no longer!!! The donuts are just way to sweet!!!!!!!! The new owners have destroyed what was once a gem of downtown Boise. It's so sad to see this happen. My three kids have zero desire to return!!! To the new owners - these are now sugar bombs. Good luck. You're destroying the loyal base!!! You're a cheap sugary imitation of what is just a memory now!!! You have done the opposite of what a new owner should do, you destroyed what you purchased!!! You took a successful business. Changed the decor and recipes to fit your liking. Ordered a few different flavors. All were pretty good but my favorite was the Girl Scout donut. I like my donuts light and airy and there's are thicker. I also snacked on my donuts later in the day and they were still pretty good. Coffee was good, service with a smile and a nice clean area to hang out and enjoy your purchase. Metered, street parking wasn't an issue on a weekday morning. read more

Donuts were good but quite expensive. Friendly service. One person selling, boxing, and making coffee on a Saturday morning made for a long wait even with only 4 people ahead of us in line when we arrived. Pretty cool that the area on the block had 20 minutes of free parking, but either add extra or have someone ready to go back to feed the meter, as it took us well over that to get to the counter and get 6 donuts. They don't box as they sell so you may not get what you ordered, they sold me something that someone else had already bought in the line before and was waiting for, so I had to go back and choose a different flavor. read more

Donut Day! Well done! I had guests and while we were riding our bikes around town I decided they needed a Guru experience, plus I was really wanting my Hipsterberry donut. This is my first visit since the business has changed hands, so I was not sure what to expect. We arrived to a long line which was expected on National Donut Day . The owner was out serving donut bites to those of us waiting, which was very considerate. In addition to bites, the band, Red Light Challenge members were playing their hearts out on the sidewalk in front of Guru. These two brothers made the wait very pleasant; super talented and a never ending repertoire of tunes from a variety of genres , across the timeline. I dot get what kind of donut shop opens so late in the morning? Went there and bought a couple donuts to share with my family, me and my two children got sick after eating it. History

Established in 2013.

Guru Donuts started out of a garage in Boise's North end in 2012 - starting with "Donut Speakeasies" to test the artisan donuts among friends and neighbors. After two seasons at the Boise Farmer's Market and wholesaling to downtown coffee shops and retail outlets, Guru Donuts found it's first (temporary) home in the Adelmann Building (204 N Capitol Blvd). After less than a year an incredible opportunity came up to setup long-term roots in Boise's iconic Idanha Building at 10th and Main. After a couple years of perfecting core recipes and serving Boise faithfully, in 2019 Guru Donuts began expanding to offer more donut types (potato, gluten-friendly, vegan), food, beer, wine and grow to build the mission of bringing the community together one donut at a time.

The service (thanks to Riggen) was as sparkling as the donut case and interior of the shop is clean and although we planned to share a donut, we found much to our surprise that they make cinnamon rolls too. Have they always and we just didn't notice? Regardless, today one of those was our choice. My 100% Italian heritage husband who grew up in an Italian neighborhood in Brooklyn never has quite warmed up to cinnamon rolls, a staple of my WASP Portland-Seattle upbringing so it is usual that if we order one to share then I will get the lion's share. But as we sipped our Americano's and enjoyed this one, I nearly had to stab his hand with my plastic fork to keep him from eating some of my half. Another great surprise on this visit was their donut holes, offered in a bag and little clear container, made with their sour cream cake donut batter! Samples were offered on the counter and SO good that I thought about picking up a container before we left but a woman came in while we were eating and sipping, tasted the sample and bought the bag and every one of the six or seven containers of them to take away with her. Yes, they are that good. Other details in my previous review comments from 2023. If you want donuts, cinnamon rolls, expertly made hot Americano and with warm service in a sparkling space playing of-the-day FM music at the just right level to know it is there but no so much as to compete with conversation this is the place. I was so excited to find out that guru has a selection of vegan donuts! I hadn't had store-made donuts in years because of a dairy intolerance so I went there to check it out. It happened to be my birthday so they gave me a free donut! We got a couple of flavors to share and they were all delicious-airy and light, just the way they should be. The guy behind the counter was super friendly and nice too. The whole experience was wonderful and made this birthday girl very happy! I've been enjoying delicious donuts from Guru before their move. I'm happy that they were able to find a downtown location that better suits their growth because they do an amazing job. The Java the Hut donut is sooooo good.
