Although I arrived slightly late, I was still within the office's grace period. Dr. Gilliam was not yet at the office and ultimately arrived approximately 30 minutes late. This was also my third attempt to have this root canal completed. During a previous appointment, the office canceled my procedure because I arrived one minute beyond their grace period, so it was especially frustrating to be expected to wait when I had followed that same policy. Because I needed to get to work, I decided I could no longer wait and would find another provider. My decision to leave is where my experience became completely unacceptable. Dr. Gilliam became confrontational and, as I was leaving, repeatedly asked me, "Do you want a referral so you don't die?" He said this multiple times while referring to the infection in my mouth. I had never even met this dentist before that day. I understand the seriousness of a dental infection. My issue was never with being informed that I needed treatment or being offered a referral. My issue was the aggressive, disrespectful, and humiliating way it was communicated. A healthcare professional can explain the urgency of a condition without speaking to a patient that way. I left extremely upset and now have the additional inconvenience of finding another provider to complete a root canal I had already attempted to have done three times at this practice. I cannot speak for the positive experiences others have shared, but unfortunately, that was not the respect, professionalism, or courtesy I received. Based on my personal experience, I would not return.
