Maybe I went on an off day? I stopped into Gurnee Donuts because I saw all of the good reviews here on Yelp. The gentleman behind the counter was very friendly and helpful, but the donuts themselves just were not good. The Boston cream had maybe one tablespoon of cream inside. The chocolate glazed didn't have any flavor. The blueberry was just ok. I hate saying this because I love going to mom and pop shops, but honestly Dunkin Donuts is much better.

Gurnee Donuts is always great on ube weekends or regular weekdays. Donuts are always fresh, service always friendly, prices reasonable, and the place is always clean. Ube Weekends -- get there early!

I used to love this place! I would wake up early to get there and get some ube donuts before they ran out! But its been a couple years and I am in town so I decided to come in and get a does around 10 in the morning. This inside had a few chairs which people could sit inside. The server was very quick when taking my order. I walked in ans it looked the same as it was before. I ordered a dozen donuts and I was so shocked at how small they are now.. i got chocolate glaze, ube sprinkles, vanilla sprinkles, chocolate sprinkles and some Boston cream donuts. The donuts were smaller than I remember but using the same recipe so the flavor was more concentrated and they were way too sweet.. honestly they werent made with love.. another example of what happens when business prioritize profits over quality. So disappointing..

Gurnee Donuts is a gem! A small, family-owned business with super friendly and helpful service. We went in planning to grab just two donuts and left with a dozen--and a coffee! There's a steady flow of regulars, which says a lot. Great variety, fun flavors, and everything was fresh and delicious. You can tell they put care and love into what they do. We'll definitely be back!

I decided to try this place based on Yelp reviews. The shop is located in a strip center alongside several other ethnic restaurants and stores. I got a chocolate cake donut and an apple fritter. There are a couple of tables for those who want to sit and have coffee. The staff member who helped us wasn't particularly friendly, but he wasn't rude either. The donuts aren't labeled, so we had to ask about the options. Overall, the donuts were average--not the best, but not the worst.

It is located in a unit of a multi-use commercial building. Upon approaching, the location is clean and clear of any trash or hazards. Very small area in the front to sit and eat. The hours are clearly noted on the door. When entering the building, there was a sweet aroma that was inviting. The facility was clean with a display of donuts just in front of me and a cooler with drinks to the right. I was looking at the purple donut, which the kind gentleman advised was the "purple sweet potato" donut. The display is nice with purple frosting and purple sprinkles. He also advised that this is one of the biggest sellers. I hear this business is locally owned and operated. All of the donuts looked delicious in a nicely displayed. They offer long John's, crullers, sprinkled, glazed, honey buns, and many more. I purchased two of the purple sweet potato and an apple fritter. I was not too impressed with the purple sweet potato, but the apple fritter was delicious. The price, I'm not too sure about that. Roughly $10 for 3 items seems a bit steep.

I had to hit up Gurnee donuts because I was in the area on a Sunday morning. Most of the donuts sold were traditional. The raised dough was a little off on texture/taste and not so sweet. The cake and buttermilk were alright. I really liked their ube donut the most. It was soft, fluffy, and moist.

Gurnee Donuts is good but not something I would drive out of my way for often. If your coming from Chicagoland area like most of us, it could be an hour drive or more. My wife likes coming here cuz she's Filipino so she wants to contribute to her people in the small business community. I would say it's worth the drive if you're also heading to Six Flags, Gurnee Mills mall or the outlet mall in Pleasant Prairie, WI. We definitely make a day out of it for our shopping trips. The donuts are fresh & made daily, their ube selections are what we mostly desire but there's also other variety like a red velvet cake donut & cherry old fashioned which was surprisingly good as I don't eat much cherry of anything. They also had an ube cinnamon roll for once which I had to try, needless to say it wasn't to my liking..too sweet for me with the glaze then added cream cheese frosting & sugar sprinkles as well. Overall, I would recommend this establishment if you're a big sweet tooth fan & if you're Filipino, at least make the trip out here once just to satisfy your curiosity. All in all, I would say it is a definite must try if you're in the area or passing through Gurnee on the highway but not a solo reason to make the trip up here for.

I stopped in since I heard they carried different flavors than Dunkin. Unfortunately, the day I went, their selection was minimal and nothing I couldn't get from Dunkin. I am happy to note their prices are good. Just be prepared the variety may be less than desired. read more

The absolute BEST donuts I've ever had!!! And I've had a LOT of donuts. Everything is great but their old fashioneds are incredible. The secret donut you must try is the Maple Bacon long john. You will probably have to ask for them to make in for you but they are a taste explosion. Like eating an entire pancake breakfast with bacon in every bite. read more

Never not delicious. I recommend the Ube, Boston cream, jelly, old fashioned, long johns, cinnamon rolls...matter of fact I can't think of any that I would not recommend. They even have Fruity Pebble sprinkled donuts for the kiddos. The cake donuts are soft, and the yeast donuts are super fluffy, and they are always fresh. Go early if you want your favorites because they do run out. They also have coffee beverages with choices of milk if that's your jam. read more

Convenient little donut shop right down the street (NOT) Only 35 miles away from where I live. We just got out of church and Joy C checked into Gurnee Donunts. Now this has been on my radar & bookmarked for awhile because a number of Yelp friends have checked in here and everyone knows that donuts are the most sugar free, fat free, healthy nutritionally complete items that we all need to fulfill our dietary intake. Anyway we went up there and got 1/2 dozen donuts. You have to make the drive worthwhile don't you? We got 2 Ube donuts w/coconut, 1 red velvet, 1 glazed buttermilk, 1 blueberry w/strawberry drizzle and 1 bear claw w/Apple inside. Of the donuts we have eaten so far my favorite was the Ube w/coconut on top. The other donuts were all good and all had a little bit of a crunchy texture that showed that they were fresh fried. The only one I haven't tried yet is the bear claw, but tomorrow is another day. read more

i came here on a saturday afternoon (close to closing) and was almost disappointed as there weren't any ube doughnuts in display... luckily they had more in the back! i was able to try the ube frosted, ube coconut frosted, and ube glazed doughnut. my favorite was the ube glazed doughnut as it kind of resembled a krispy kreme-like crunchy yet greasy feel. i felt that it also had the most prominent ube taste. i loved it! my least favorite , although still delicious, was the regular ube frosted one. it wasn't as special as the other ones but definitely will be back. read more

PSA...we've gotten giant size donuts from Gurnee donuts for the past five years for my son's birthday. Once during covid they didn't have the donut ready we were understanding and gave them more time to make it that day. They provided us with a dozen donuts at no charge along with our order. Fast forward to today the two giant size donuts I ordered 8 days ago wasn't ready. We were told they needed more time and offered to deliver them. No apology for the order not being ready asking if we can come back in an hour which means they completely forgot our order needing to scramble to make our order last minute. Nobody came out to talk to us about the order. This wasn't our first rodeo with them not having the order ready and at this point didn't trust them showing up to deliver our order. They clearly are not taking orders seriously when a customer walks in to make a custom order. It was completely disregarded and not a priority. We have been consistent annual customers for years with them for our son's birthday. We had our son's birthday party and didn't have the time to wait for something to possibly or possibly not be ready. Our whole morning was spent grabbing an alternative option because of Gurnee donuts lack of professionalism, communication, and un organization skills lacking. We will not be giving them our business any longer and wanted to share our experience. To top it off my son was born at 29 weeks and was given a 50/50 chance at life. His twin brother died at 11 days old...this isn't an average child's birthday this is a miracle child's special day that was ruined. Thanks Gurnee Donuts! read more

I've always loved when coworkers bring Gurnee Donuts in to work but today was my first time coming into the store. It's a good spot for a quick donut and coffee run. Love the fruity pebbles donut and the maple bacon long john. They use quality bacon and it makes a difference. Will be stopping in again next time I crave donuts! read more

I've always been a fan of Gurnee Donuts ever since I tasted their donuts years ago... but I finally ordered donuts for my son's first birthday this past weekend. We did a Cars Movie theme and when I messaged the store to collaborate on ideas for donuts (I wanted the donuts to replicate 'tires' for the donut wall/"tire rack") Kevin was awesome with ideas and got me excited! Day of party, Kevin showed up with my order of chocolate covered French crullers and helped place on donut wall. The donuts were a hit! Everyone kept talking about them and asking where did I get them from! The donuts were so delicious!!! Thank you again Gurnee Donuts for an awesome dessert at my son's party! We Will definitely be ordering from them again, party or no party... donuts are always top notch! My other favorites: Ube Donuts, and red velvet donuts are phenomenal ! read more

Best donuts anywhere around...period. They will be at Donut Fest in Chicago tomorrow first session only. I will be there for the second session this missing them. Hearing this, Kevin, the owner let us try the donut is is competing with. Totally unique and unreal good. Go see them soon. Mmmmmmm Donuts. Great small little place. Not a wide selection, but it was 930 am on a Monday. I got a jelly donut, and it did not disappointment. It was light and filled with strawberry jelly. The jelly game was strong with side to side coverage. It was like........ well maybe not yelp appropriate for the kids. Overall good donut. read more

We love our local donut shop! They have had a rough go of it as the building had a fire a couple of years ago and the business had to close to rebuild. It's run by a sweet and hardworking Filipino family...mom always throws in extra donut holes and the son runs a killer instagram page for the donut shop...go follow them! @gurneedonuts Each year they compete in the Chicago Donut Fest competition and come away with minimum one overall win for a category. Everyone in my family likes a different donut: red velvet, blueberry streusel, chocolate long john, and of course, the purple ube donut (a specialty of this shop!). They support the community in a variety of ways including building pride in their Gurnee Donuts Donut Club...yes our police department wear their donut club sweatshirts! I have two myself as well as two of their club coffee cups. We love Gurnee Donuts. read more

I went there this Friday morning and they have a nice assortment of donuts. All were fresh baked the same day and some regulars stopped in while I was there. Truly a neighborhood shop. The donuts are still as fresh today as they were when I got them and very heavy and generously sized. The maple bacon long johns are huge and each have a thick slice of crisp bacon on top. Red velvets are soft and cakey with a sugar glaze. The boston creme and jelly donuts are generously filled. But what caught my eye was the coffee selection. They have an espresso machine with different flavors like lavender honey and sweetened condensed milk. I can't wait to go back and try their purple Ube donuts (only on weekends). read more

I live in Milwaukee, WI but will go out of my way to visit GD whenever I can. I've not yet found a donut place in my area that is as awesome as this place! They make the BEST Maple Bacon I've ever had. I've had different people help me every time I've been, and everyone has always been so nice and welcoming. Sometimes they'll even throw in an extra donut for me! I'm also able to pre-order through email in case they run out of my favorites! Thank you for the excellent service and amazing donuts!! read more

I stumbled across this place while looking for "doughnuts nearby me". I wanted a unique doughnut, similar to that of a doughnut shop back home that I love dearly. I discovered that this place had UBE doughnuts, at first I was uncertain if these would taste good and upon arriving I felt apprehensive to try them. However, the ube doughnut lived up to the hype that I read about it. Would definitely return. The service here was exceptional as well. They didn't have any maple doughnuts on hand and were quick on making one for me while ordering. read more

You can smell the aroma of our creations everyday if your driving by. We open daily at 6am and attempt to stay open until 2pm. We'll only close our doors early if we run out of donuts. The mango sticky rice was delish, it was sweet but not overly sweet and the cream made a huge difference in the drink. Highly recommend. As the super dad that I am, I decided to surprise my family with these tantalizing treats. Now, let me paint the picture of disappointment for you. Brace yourselves. Picture this: I walk into the doughnut spot, my heart racing with anticipation. But lo and behold, they didn't have the legendary red velvet doughnuts! The donuts here at Gurnee Donuts are simply amazing! Let me tell you about their maple bacon that I had, it was hands down the best I've ever tasted. But that's not all.
