The quality and service of Gung Ho makes me love biking even more than I already do (which is hard to imagine). The mechanics communicate clearly with every step of the service process.... They are always transparent with the work they recommend and perform and they do what they can to save me money, while balancing long term needs and health of my bikes. For example, I took my mountain bike in to get a new fork bc I jacked it up in a crash. They could have sold me a new fork, but instead they did a little research and suggested I get the fork serviced instead. It saved me about $500. I would have been none-the-wiser. I've been to other bike shops where the staff are "dudes" that only want to talk to hardcore cyclists. This is NOT the case at Gung Ho - they truly live their mission of "More Butts on Bikes More Often". Went in to ask a simple question of whether they work on e-bikes or not. Was met with super rude and horrible customer service. It was 15 minutes before they close so must have been pissed me we walked in at closing. Doesn't matter. You want a sale or not? I was considering just buying a new ebike. But I first wanted to see if my bike could be fixed. Some older guy I don't know if he was a manger or what cut me off and got very snippy with me gave me a nasty look and said "you need to go through the manufacturer". All but yelled at me!!! Lost out on a sale or any business from me or any of my friends that ride bikes with our group. Horrible business practices. read more

I've purchased 5 or 6 bikes from them between mine and my boys. The bikes are top notch. What really sets Gung Ho above the other bike shops is their friendly staff and customer service. Both are consistently exceptional. Most recently, my oldest bent one of his rims. I took that bike in and my other kid's bike for a time up. Having no appointment, I expected to drop the bikes off and pick them up later. I was willing and expecting to have to pick them up later. "I'll have you out of here in 20 minutes. These are our bikes and we want to make sure they're taken care." I would recommend Gung Ho to anyone. As my kids grow and need to upgrade their bikes, Gung Ho will always get my business! read more

After having two flat tires this year, I decided to upgrade to specialized's brand of flat resistant tires. The mechanic was in such a rush he popped a tube when installing it and had to start the process all over again and didn't ring me up for the right materials when checking out. After my next bike ride, I noticed my tire going flat again. I took it back into the store and showed them that there was a hole in the rim tape over a spoke and the tube was ripped as a result. A new mechanic took the wheel back and proceeded to take a phone call and attempt to fix my wheel while holding the phone between his ear and shoulder. Seven miles into my next ride, I get a flat tire (with the same puncture in the rim tape) going downhill in a section where I average 45 miles an hour. Luckily, I was able to regain my balance after I had swerved into an oncoming traffic lane. I wrote the owner an email and got a call from the service manager the next day and told me he would look at it himself. He cared about my situation so much that when I dropped it off he didn't even get out of his chair in the back service area to come talk to me in person. And then when I picked up the wheel the next day someone just says "here you go" and walks away. At the end of the day, they've made it clear to me that safety and quality isn't a priority, getting you out of the door with a receipt in your pocket is. My entire family has shopped at gung ho over the course of 7-10 years and they are willing to sever a relationship in that manner. For your safety, I would recommend using another bike shop because the lack of care behind the service desk could result in serious harm. read more

Really like this laid-back spot. I bought a hybrid bike there during the pandemic, and the staff was relaxed, helpful and friendly. Never pushy. Since then I've gone back to pick up some accessories as well. They've also done tune-ups on other bikes in my family, and are always fast and courteous. read more

Poor service at Gung Ho. Gung Ho was highly recommended and I spent a lot of money there November 2019 for a Specialized Diverge. The purchase process was great but service has been a total disaster. Within the first couple of months I took my brand new bike back twice because of loud thumping which occurred as many as 40+ times during 20 mile flat rides without gear change. Minor adjustments were done but the owner would not take my complaints seriously and was abrupt and dismissive each time despite the shop's so-called "warranty." Since I live 1.5 hours away I asked him to keep it overnight and test ride it but he refused. Finally, I took the bike to a different shop and they told me there is a design problem with my hub and wheel and that Specialized is aware of the problem. The shop reached out to Specialized and I got a new hub and wheel fully under warranty. Now I have the bike I thought I was buying. Lesson learned: beware of buying a bike at Gung Ho because if there is a problem they don't stand behind what they sell. read more

We were on a cross country ride from Times Square to San Francisco. The bike I had purchased from rei had serious issues with wobble when loaded. Stopped at several bike shops prior to Gung Ho and it became evident the problem could not be fixed. Initially spoke with Jay about a day away and he couldn't have been more helpful. Before we arrived he had spoken with reps on the Salsa and Surly brands. So he gave me a wealth of information and we decided the Surly would be the best fit based on my height and weight, and for what I was doing. The next day he set up the new bike,transferred all the other equipment from my bike. We were on our way the following morning! I can't say enough good things about the service, knowledge, professionalism, and kindness of Jay and the guys at Gung Ho. My story starts with a purchase of a new bike at a big box retailer. It was a bit small for me so I took it to Gung Ho Bikes for some upgrades. After explaining what I needed, I asked that they work up a price and call me. Less than an hour later, I received a call with the estimate and some very helpful advice. My bike would never be comfortable for me and I probably would never ride it. I was able to return the bike to the big box retailer and spend just a small amount more for a proper size bike that I am loving!! The staff are very knowledgeable and it is a fun atmosphere at Gung Ho! I would highly recommend them for new bike purchases, accessories and repairs or upgrades. I've been a BMX racer, commuter, and road rider since childhood in central PA. Gung Ho has a good selection of bikes. Their prices on bikes are good but look out for the accessories. Much cheaper at Re-Cycle with Vance at Central Market. Now for the bad. Totally condescending unless you are spending $$$$$ on your new bike. Have been treated rudely multiple times when I have been unable to get parts elsewhere and had to go there. Young buck learning the ropes there has been helpful though. Avoid at all costs. Compared to: Holmes, Bushey's (RIP my old fav), Re-Cycle in Central Market, World Cup Ski and Cycle (opposite attitude from Lee and Dave...cool guys!), and Cycle World in Wrightsville (good prices). read more

Stopped in on a slow Weds morning, with a bike that I hoped they could me help to understand; one of a pair of folding bikes that belong to my parents are and in need of reconditioning in order to sell for them. I walked in first without the bike, and was the only customer in the shop. There were two associates inside and I asked if I could bring the bike into the showroom, explaining that I hoped they could tell me what the bike needed and perhaps educate me on how to fold it, etc. They said to bring it in, and asked if I needed assistance to do so. I thanked them and declined, as I'm able bodied, but I appreciated the offer. On the way to my car outside I passed another man who might have been the manage or owner (?). He was supervising a crew painting graphics on the outside of the building. He made eye contact, followed me inside as I wheeled the bike in the door and asked if he could be of help. I explained that we had a pair of these bikes, were getting them ready for sale and didn't understand them, so wanted to ask some questions. He said and I quote, "what do you want of me?' My first question was to ask whether the small tires (low on air) had tubes inside and if so, whether they needed to be replaced, and did they have the inner tubes in stock. He did grab an air hose from on the floor next to him and put air in the tires. He told me that if the air stayed in we were fine, but the inner tubes were standard and in stock. He then asked again, "What to you want of me?" I explained that I was hoping he had knowledge of the type of bike and could point out the mechanism that allowed the bike to fold, so that I could do it myself. He then said, "well, I could get into that, but if I have to do much, I'm going to have to charge you for my time". His manner was closed, not friendly. Stop right there. If I am a small business owner, I am offering great customer service in order to attract return business. He could have sold me inner tubes, offered me advice on how to figure out the bike, and created customer loyalty. Instead he basically turned me away. He was cold and uninterested throughout our short conversation. That man does not realize we are a family of five athletic adults with six bikes in our garage, three of which are in need of service after heavy use on college campuses. We also are in the market for a bike for a 6'7' adult son, who is not an easy or cheap fit. That's just too bad for them. I will find a friendly local bike shop, since I want to buy local. If I can't find one I'll order online before I buy anything at Gung Ho. This is the second time my husband and I have received that sort of reception at Gung Ho. We won't go back, read more

I could tell the staff was busy helping others and I understood that, but he had to shout at me from across the room that they were all busy and I was going to have to wait. bought two bikes from there with no problems- not exceptional mind you, just no problems. then bought one more bike and realized I never received my manual. call me old school but I like a manual- and there is one in the bike carton. I called and asked them to send it to me and the owner said he couldn't mail it-- I would have to pick it up. He then said there was one online- after searching for 5+ mins and filtering through ads and other unrelated items, I finally gave up and asked him to send me the link. No response. Seriously?? Apparently, my customer worth does not fall into the postage category. Since the shop is 40 mins away, still no manual. Shows just how much they value their customers -- still looking for that good bike shop and apparently, its not Gung Ho. read more

Stopped in today with my wife. We were planning on getting a couple of bikes. The first employee came up and asked what we were looking for and spent some quality time going over options and providing advice. Overall a great employee and would have made a sale today. We browsed a bit and I had decided what I planned to purchase for myself (a Specialized for I believe $750). We then moved over to the women's section and we were looking at options when another person came up, Jay was the name on the shirt if I recall correctly. His demeanor was much different, slightly pushy and not nearly informative as the other employee, seemed more talk down towards us than to attempt to educate. Any chance of a sale ended when I indicated my wife didn't have the correct type of shoes on to take a test ride and he replied that when we are more serious to come back. So between two bikes, a bike carrier, air pump, gloves and helmets that we wanted to purchase, another local bike shop will be having a decent sale. Update: visited another LBS and total was $3,100 that your shop would have gotten was it not for rudeness. read more

I only go here out of necessity. I can't stand the place. The main guy who I believe to be the owner is so pretentious and condescending. I felt bad (kinda), but I actually lied to him when he asked me where I got my new bike. Told him I got it used from some guy. I just needed a new tube and also (this will sound really dumb) for someone to show me how a presta valve worked since I have only used schrader valves in the past. I didn't want to tell him (gasp) I got a really good deal online because every other time I have gone to this shop he is so condescending. If you didn't buy your bike from him, or if you aren't trying to buy a bike from him he is a jerk to you. I don't see how he keeps customers. Save yourself some trouble and avoid it unless you are in a pinch and need to go somewhere close to York. I really like Adventure Cycling out in West Manchester (I think that's the name of the town), and Cycle Works in Wrightsville. Bicycle Connection down in Hunt Valley MD isn't too bad either. The owner is a bit of an odd ball, but he is at least nice and helpful plus the rest of his staff is great. Bicycle Connection is a bit pricey when it comes to labor but that can be said about a lot of bike shops. read more
