My DS3, on the NW Lancaster River Trail

Bought my hybrid Dual Sport 3 late in 2019, and have had it in for adjustments on several occasions. Without exception even during the height of the pandemic limitations I have been greeted and treated with nothing but respect and honesty. Recently I had it in for their $60 tune-up and had to bring it back for some tweaking to the derailleur but I only ride on the weekends so it was not inconvenient that it took several days each time to get to it (they're very busy these days, as you can imagine) and their follow-up was top-shelf. They will work on any brand of bike, btw.

Do not shop here!! You will be interrogated and stopped at the door.

Visited the trek store yesterday (Rohrerstown Rd) in search of an accessory for my Trek bike and was stopped at the front door and interrogated by Erik (if that's his real name). He became aggressive and began questioning me about the nature of my visit, further saying they were only taking appointments. He uttered I could not enter the store without an appointment. However, there was no evidence of this process on their website or posted signage on the doors. Disappointed I went to my car and returned with my husband and the guy with the cap began speaking to us in a very condescending tone. He reiterated the same statements and began blocking entry. After several minutes of the two employees making a scene, we were allowed in the store. You would think customer service would be at an all time high considering most businesses are just reopening after months of COVID-19, quarantines but these two individuals and behaviors toward potential customers were disgusting!!! Walk away and take your money elsewhere. No one has any obligation to shop where they are treated disrespectfully.

    The bike!

I took it out for a test ride and it felt like I was riding a new bike instead of one I purchased over ten years ago! We also have purchased two bikes for our kids from the Common Wheel community center on King. The bikes are great quality and buying them refurbished made them affordable for us. We paid big box store prices for far more superior bikes. The Common Wheel is well worth supporting just for the quality of products, services and employees, but they go above and beyond and offer amazing programs to our community. It's great to have a local shop that empowers the city through the power of bikes! Truly a special, unique, quality bike shop. Thanks for all you do Common Wheel!

After some cordial greetings I began to explain the type of bike I had (hybrid) how I road and the types of terrain I had ridden. I even gave some brand names I was familiar with, bike knowledge etc, and I also told him the price I had spent on my last bike ($$$) What's the first option he shows me, the cheapest, basic bumble gum bike in the store. I said, in no way In any thing I just said, would this type of bike suit my needs. He then showed me the 2nd cheapest option, which had not one of the options I was looking for in a bike. At which point I was confused but then it was clear. This guy obviously made assumptions how much I can spend, based on how I looked. It did not matter how much I explained my needs, or my experiences with riding so that I can locate the right bike. Besides blatant prejudice the store has little selection and no tangible way to provide the riding experience necessary when choosing your next bike (comfort, safety, feel, etc) due to the downtown location. You really can't test ride the more rugged options, which doesn't matter much, because the options are slim. I was hoping to support this small biz because of the mission with 2 purchases for my sister and myself. I'm happy to have avoided supporting this type of mentality.

They don't want to sell you a bike, they want to sell the right bike for you. That doesn't always mean the most expensive option. I've heard people complain about pricing but I always feel like I get a great value. I knew very little about bikes and cycling and they havd always been patient and kind when explaining things. The crew here loves the sport and want you to as well!

My wife's bike was making a clicking noise that was driving her absolutely crazy. We had gone to a local bike shop (nicest guy), where the mechanic diagnosed it as a shot bottom bracket. Unfortunately/fortunately he didn't have the part. We then went to Hush Money Bikes hoping they might have the parts we needed. Once there we were assisted Chris who listened to my wife's explanation of the issue, as well as what we'd been told. He then very systematically started testing and ruling issues out. It turned out to be an issue with the seat post (yes, really). He had it fixed quickly, and at a very reasonable cost, especially compared to what a bottom bracket would have run. Also I personally would never have thought it could be the seat post!!! One other thing we both appreciated was that Chris test rode the bike, I've experienced a lot of shops that will have you do this. All in all it was a great experience, and my wife lives her bike again!

    Universal Cycles

    Universal Cycles

Might be a long review…read more.. My family lives in Toronto, and Universal Cycles is in Lancaster, PA - roughly an 8 hour drive. That's a LONG way to drive for a bike. But we did it, simply because Universal Cycle carries bikes that other stores DO NOT have. Specifically, a child's bike that is a FANTASTIC bike for little kids. Sure, we found it for slightly cheaper in Kansas City, but the service we got from that store (only online) was far from decent. So, on a recent trip from Toronto to Washington, DC, we stopped in at Universal Cycle and go the bike. It was a fantastic experience. My son LOVES the bike (it was even "giftwrapped" with a bow), and I can only thank Universal. I don't know how they source bikes and parts so quickly, but it really is amazing. The store is not a huge bike shop - it's rather small. But they have this way of getting just about any part/bike, and that is beyond compare. I really wanted to give this store only 4 stars - simply because they're so far away from Toronto. But that's not their fault! Thanks Brad and the crew at Universal in Lancaster!

Knowledgeable, super helpful and fun to just chat with. They usually have what you need right there, but if they have to order in, most often it's same day, if not 2 days at most - a definite breath of fresh air from all the super brand specific shops in the area. As someone that works on the weekend, it's great to pop in on a Monday when a lot of other shops are closed to pick up an order I placed from their website!
