I used to ride a regular trail bike but dye to health issues I wanted to check recumbent bikes. So we made the trip to lancaster recumbent. I am so glad we did. I did some research and thought I had my bike picked out. After talking to Diane Sara and I think Chuck and trying different bike. I actually bought a different bike and it was used in great condition so it was a little cheaper and I was able to get some accessories. I love the bike and can't wait for my biking adventures to start again. Everyone was super friendly, and very knowledgeable. Now my husband wants one and we will definitely be going back. I was riding the Northwest River Trail on my bike several times a week. It was getting to the point where it was not enjoyable any more because of the saddle-inducing pain. Along the trail in Marietta is a signpost for businesses in town including Lancaster Recumbent. My wife has always talked about recumbents so we visited the shop. We took a test ride and ended up getting a Catrike Villager for her and a Trial for me. Sarah was very helpful in every aspect of the purchase. Scott showed us how to load the trikes on the Alpaca rack we purchased. It was a great experience that you don't get much these days. Just a great family business. We got to test the trikes and the rack on a trip to our cabin in Potter county. We are near the Pine Creek Rail Trail and broke in our trikes there. What fun! And no pain! My wife has a knee replacement and the other one needs done too but riding the Catrikes is pure bliss. read more

This is an incredible family business run by good people who have the utmost in respect for and patience with their customers. Last year, they helped me to purchase a very un-cheap recumbent trike from Germany, customized with all the bells and whistles to include a Rohloff Hub and Shimano Steps EP8 pedal assist. Every step of the way, the Barrows' were communicative about the next steps and transparent about all the costs associated with purchasing my recumbent. When I ordered it, I dealt mostly with Sarah, who did a lot of legwork in getting the customizations, delivery dates, and keeping me informed from order (January 2021) to delivery (June 2021, you may remember how COVID fucked up the bike-delivery pipeline.) When I came in to take the bike home, Scott was very thorough in fitting the bike to me, as well as making sure I knew how to shift with a Rohloff and use the bike's computer to change assist levels. In fact, he even rode around Marietta with me to make sure I got the hang of it before I left to take my bike home. One thing I learned in this process is that paying for the first year tune-up at time of purchase is an extremely important part of your recumbent's longevity. To be quite honest, because of how far I live from the business (three and a half hours with no traffic if I don't so much as stop for a pee break) I probably wouldn't have brought it in for a tune-up. Because I had already paid for it, I brought it in, and I got to see all of the cool stuff they do to keep the bike running optimally, I became cognizant of the computer printout that shows health, use, and status of the bike and its components, and they even upgraded all the software and firmware for me. It helps you to realize how important these tune-ups are. It's not the most convenient thing to have to go that far for a tune-up, but they were all flexible and accommodated me on their busiest day to get this done. It greatly improves the chance that I shall return for next year's tune-up when I actually have to pay for the darn thing. I also appreciated that Scott was able to get some things fixed that I broke, like the telescoping pole that the flag sits on - he was able to fix that somehow, as well as get one of the rear mudguards/wheel well covers (whatever it's called, I don't know) back on and replaced the screw that got lost on the trail when it fell off. It's worth a 1-2 hour drive because getting people out there on recumbents is their mission. It's all they do, and they are experts. Make an appointment, and you will get undivided attention to choose the right recumbent for you. I was riding a high-quality ebike for 2 seasons and fell repeatedly. I was black and blue all over. I thought I'd buy an e-trike, but they felt just as unstable as a regular bike. I tested a recumbent in another store and fell in love. It's SO comfortable, easy to ride, and nearly impossible to fall. But I came to Lancaster because they have many models of the top brands you can try, and get the right one for you. They also customize so it fits your individual needs. I was most interested in the TerraTrike Rambler and the Catrike Villager. I am 5'1 and petite, so I chose the Villager and I love it. Also, Sarah at the store helped us figure out how to fit it into a regular Prius (seats folded down) with a few adjustments! If you have an SUV or mini-van, no problem. I recently had some lower back issues and so wanted to explore recumbent bikes. Turns out that they are easier to read about than find! I live in the DC area and thought I would easily find experts and shops. Wrong. Most nearby bike shops had one or two models at most, or wanted to sell me fixed-up old recumbents. I had done my research and was pretty sure I needed someone who could meet me where I am and not try to sell me something I didn't want. Then I found Lancaster Recumbent (which is now in a nearby, very charming small town called Marietta. Worth going just to see the town as well!). I wrote to them asking about the 'bent (cool new lingo for me!) I was interested in, and Sarah wrote back immediately, sent me photos of the exact bike I wanted to try, and could not have been nicer or more accommodating. What a breath of fresh air! Then yesterday my spouse, dog and I visited Lancaster Recumbent and experienced the full Barrows' family customer service model. Wow. After years of living in big cities where customer service is a joke, this was a pure joy. I knew the bike I wanted and I knew it would cost X amount of money (good bikes of any sort will never be $99.99 at a local discount store). What makes LR stand out though, is the level of attention, craftsmanship, knowledge, and friendly caring exhibited by the Barrows' family. Most of the family is involved in the business in some way, including their sweet dog, Clementine. I tried the bike, decided it had to be mine, and then Scott meticulously fitted it to me. I've never seen such extensive and careful attention and service before at a bike shop. And they could not have been more sincerely friendly and caring about my satisfaction. Sarah and Scott at Lancaster recumbent are extremely knowledgeable about all the products they carry. The selection of recumbents they carry is incredible. There is a trike there for everyone, regardless of limitations with riding a standard bike. Scott is very skilled with modifying and recommending equipment based on individual needs of the rider. The service I received when I purchased my Hase Trigo was outstanding. I haven't been able to ride for 10 years because of my health. They were patient and very helpful and I am so thankful that I, now, can do the one thing I love. My husband and I recently bought our Catrike Villagers from Lancaster Recumbent and have been very pleased with the trikes and Lancaster Recumbent. After Sarah gathered some info from us through email she suggested that the Villager would be the best fit for our needs and wants. We followed up with test rides and purchased our Villagers. For 6 years I have ridden a bike on the Northwest River trail 4 mornings a week and this morning just finished my second ride on my trike. What a difference between the bike and the trike! With the stability of 3 wheels I have the freedom to look around and enjoy the view. I am enjoying the ride so much more also because of the comfort factor. My trike was expertly adjusted for me at their shop when I picked it up. This morning the trail was littered with wet leaves and twigs which would have made me nervous on my bike but I was comfortable with those conditions on the trike.
