We found this gem of a shop by just driving by, although we had heard a while back of a great shop…read moreon the area, and we needed a better bike rack. Stopped in and met Dale, one of the at least three generations of Martins who operate this business which is in the process of expanding on a busy Saturday afternoon. Dale took the time to explore my needs and recommended the best bike rack (Kuat 2.0) that I have ever owned and I think that I have had about 10. The problem was that literally there was no room in my car for the box. Actually though it wasn't a problem for me. In about half the promised 45 minutes a team had it inboxes, assembled and on the back of my car. Bummer though was that when I got home I found that I didn't have the hardware to mount it on the car for which it was intended. I called Dale and intwo days the needed hardware was in my mailbox without charge. I cannot say how refreshing it is to find a store that offers expertise, advice without pressure and exemplary service. You can be sure that I will be back there.

After 11 years I decided to see if any good changes happened. Sadly no…read more Their facilities are much bigger and nicer now. However their staff are still rude and prices are outrageous. A far cry from what these bikes are actually worth. If coming to a place to be treated like you're a bother and get ripped off is your thing.. then this is your place to buy a bike. Just find a good bike shop that will be kind and treat you right. Cheap isn't the answer. I'll pay more for great service every time!! This place is just not it.

I took it out for a test ride and it felt like I was riding a new bike instead of one I purchased over ten years ago! We also have purchased two bikes for our kids from the Common Wheel community center on King. The bikes are great quality and buying them refurbished made them affordable for us. We paid big box store prices for far more superior bikes. The Common Wheel is well worth supporting just for the quality of products, services and employees, but they go above and beyond and offer amazing programs to our community. It's great to have a local shop that empowers the city through the power of bikes! Truly a special, unique, quality bike shop. Thanks for all you do Common Wheel!

During my walk I stopped by the store due to a humorous sign in regards to dogs. I went in to check…read moreit out and discuss the options inside. After some cordial greetings I began to explain the type of bike I had (hybrid) how I road and the types of terrain I had ridden. I even gave some brand names I was familiar with, bike knowledge etc, and I also told him the price I had spent on my last bike ($$$) What's the first option he shows me, the cheapest, basic bumble gum bike in the store. I said, in no way In any thing I just said, would this type of bike suit my needs. He then showed me the 2nd cheapest option, which had not one of the options I was looking for in a bike. At which point I was confused but then it was clear. This guy obviously made assumptions how much I can spend, based on how I looked. It did not matter how much I explained my needs, or my experiences with riding so that I can locate the right bike. Besides blatant prejudice the store has little selection and no tangible way to provide the riding experience necessary when choosing your next bike (comfort, safety, feel, etc) due to the downtown location. You really can't test ride the more rugged options, which doesn't matter much, because the options are slim. I was hoping to support this small biz because of the mission with 2 purchases for my sister and myself. I'm happy to have avoided supporting this type of mentality.

Ted was able to quickly give me a price quote with shipping (over to California) so I proceeded to complete the transaction over the phone. I received a Sales Receipt via email right after the transaction was complete. Soon after hanging up the phone Ted text me with the UPS tracking number. I received my package a few days sooner then Ted's original UPS estimated delivery date he gave me. I have since referred a family member to also purchase the same Bike Trainer while the sale was still on going and he too received a great purchase experience from the person he spoke to which was Chris. I highly recommend Hush Money Bikes. I'll continue to have their shop on my list of places to purchase Bike supplies! Just a helpful note which is no fault of Hush Money Bikes. UPS did not update the status of my package as it was traveling from Pennsylvania to California. Each day I checked the status and it reported the package was in Pennsylvania till several days later when it was scanned near my city here in California. In case anyone also comes across this; you just have to wait for UPS to update the tracking.

My wife and I had just completed a bike ride a across the country, but still have several bike…read moretrips planned before we return home to California. My wife's bike was making a clicking noise that was driving her absolutely crazy. We had gone to a local bike shop (nicest guy), where the mechanic diagnosed it as a shot bottom bracket. Unfortunately/fortunately he didn't have the part. We then went to Hush Money Bikes hoping they might have the parts we needed. Once there we were assisted Chris who listened to my wife's explanation of the issue, as well as what we'd been told. He then very systematically started testing and ruling issues out. It turned out to be an issue with the seat post (yes, really). He had it fixed quickly, and at a very reasonable cost, especially compared to what a bottom bracket would have run. Also I personally would never have thought it could be the seat post!!! One other thing we both appreciated was that Chris test rode the bike, I've experienced a lot of shops that will have you do this. All in all it was a great experience, and my wife lives her bike again!

Universal Cycles

Might be a long review…read more.. My family lives in Toronto, and Universal Cycles is in Lancaster, PA - roughly an 8 hour drive. That's a LONG way to drive for a bike. But we did it, simply because Universal Cycle carries bikes that other stores DO NOT have. Specifically, a child's bike that is a FANTASTIC bike for little kids. Sure, we found it for slightly cheaper in Kansas City, but the service we got from that store (only online) was far from decent. So, on a recent trip from Toronto to Washington, DC, we stopped in at Universal Cycle and go the bike. It was a fantastic experience. My son LOVES the bike (it was even "giftwrapped" with a bow), and I can only thank Universal. I don't know how they source bikes and parts so quickly, but it really is amazing. The store is not a huge bike shop - it's rather small. But they have this way of getting just about any part/bike, and that is beyond compare. I really wanted to give this store only 4 stars - simply because they're so far away from Toronto. But that's not their fault! Thanks Brad and the crew at Universal in Lancaster!

This place blows my mind. They're able to get parts that other shops in the area haven't even heard…read moreof. The variety is overwhelming. Knowledgeable, super helpful and fun to just chat with. They usually have what you need right there, but if they have to order in, most often it's same day, if not 2 days at most - a definite breath of fresh air from all the super brand specific shops in the area. As someone that works on the weekend, it's great to pop in on a Monday when a lot of other shops are closed to pick up an order I placed from their website!
