Bruce did a great job detailing the history along the bike tour. When he chose places to stop and talk, he made sure there was shade. I still recommend bringing water! They have some pedal assist electric bikes and if you're not an avid cyclist, grab one for the hills. Better to have and not need. My unit (USMC) contacted Gettysbike tours about a tour for educational purposes. We confirmed that they would be at the business and confirmed their hours with them weeks in advance. All 12 of us loaded up and drove the hour+ from Baltimore excited for our tour only to be stood up. No one was at the business location. We did the family ride with our sons 12 and 15. Our guide was very knowledgeable, but there was a lot of talking and only about 4 miles of riding. I think our kids had a hard time sitting and listening to the speaking portion of the tour which could last up to 20 mins at a clip. Not the fault of our guide.... just the nature of the tour. It was a very hot day, so I think (if you are traveling in August) maybe consider a bus tour. There's very little shade. It didn't bother us when we were riding (b/c you benefit from the breeze), but as soon as we stopped, we were super hot. Also, the PA monument is beautiful (b/c you can climb to the top and look out). This particular tour did not point that out which I think was a negative b/c I think the rest of the riders would have enjoyed it. We were very impressed with Bruce's knowledge of the battle Each of us came away with a clear understanding of how the battle originated and progressed over the three days We also came away with an understanding of the special distances etc of the battle When I reread the battle I will have a clear vision of the happenings We are north of 65 and all bike 30 to 40 miles a week and were able to complete the longer 20 mile trip The day was a serious workout but the bicycle aspect of the experience was great Peddling up a hill helped us appreciate the difficulty the troops may have experienced on battle day 100% recommend Gettysbike Very impressed with the amount of knowledge Bruce carries. read more

This is, by far, the best way to see tour Gettysburg and the battlefield. Our tour guide, Bruce, was not only extremely knowledgeable, but passionate about the area and the history. And, he did a great job of managing 12 people on bikes through traffic. While my husband and I work out and bike on a regular basis so the biking part wasn't a problem, if you avoid this activity because you think you can't handle the biking, take some time ahead of your trip, get in shape and do it! You roughly tour the area following the progression of the battle over the three days. Because you're outside and aware of the direction of travel, it's must easier to keep track of who did what where than it would have been on a bus or in a car. I had been to Gettysburg before and have been to other battlefields (Waterloo), but I have never felt as though I really understood what had happened -- and why -- like I did after I finished my tour with Gettysbike -- Bruce rocks! read more

This was a fantastic way to tour the battlefield on a beautiful day! Our licensed guide, Bruce, was very knowledgable and was very conscientious about making sure everyone in our fairly large group was safe on the ride. His narratives at numerous stops were both informative and extremely interesting! The trip (we did the Grand tour) is somewhat expensive compared to hiring a guide at the visitor's center to ride in your car with you, but the ride itself was much of the enjoyment. We also agree with other reviewers that doing the tour on bike gives you a perspective of the size and scope of the whole battlefield that is difficult to get in a car or bus. There are a couple of strenuous portions - particularly, Little Round Top, but they are fairly short and it's possible to walk you bike up the hill if necessary. Our bike tour was the best part of an overall great trip to Gettysburg! We HIGHLY recommend this for anyone physically capable of a 13-mile, mildly stenuous bike ride. read more

I brought my in-laws, my wife, and my sister-in-law to Gettysburg since they are from Chicago and have never visited Gettysburg. I can't recommend this tour enough! We had a beautiful day in June, and I can't imagine seeing Gettysburg any other way. We got there 15 minutes before our tour started and the guides already had our bikes, helmets, and water bottles lined up in the parking lot and ready to go! The guide for our tour was extremely knowledgeable, and he did a great job of keeping everyone engaged and modifying the tour based on the level of interest. He even made a point to get us to an artillery demonstration by 11am, which was fantastic! We took the "grand tour" which was four hours, but I honestly didn't think it was overly long. There were one or two hills that would have been challenging, but we do a lot of biking. Our guide did an excellent job of keeping everyone safe, and being out on a bike versus in a tour bus made the experience so much better! Bike equipment was updated and modern. No one on the tour had bike issues. Bikes were hybrid mid-range bikes that were fine for the 12 miles of biking. I considered bringing my own bike, but it really wouldn't have been necessary. I would highly recommend taking this tour in the morning, getting lunch in town after the tour, then going to the museum/movie/cyclorama after lunch. It was a perfect day. read more

This was probably the best thing my husband and I did during our two week, east coast trip. If you're into history, specifically Civil War history, you will really enjoy this tour. We did about four hours and 14 miles. There are hills, yes, and they suck (especially Little Round Top), but the rest of the tour is really fun and really informative. This is the best way to see the battlefield! We enjoyed the tour so much. Yes I was a little skeptical of the long bike ride but Bob the owner of Gettybikes did a great job of taking breaks and explaining the battle in the shade. With the bike tour you can travel on so much of the battlefield that you can't see with other tour programs. Bob is so knowledgeable and his daughter was so helpful with bike safety. A Gettysbike tour is a great way to see Gettysburg! We were visiting PA from Portland, OR, so we were already comfortable biking with traffic, and it really wasn't ever an issue. The biking part was fun and manageable even for a novice biker and allowed us to get closer to sites, move rapidly, and get a great sense of the scope of the battle. We did the four hour tour which was very "do-able" and should not scare you off. Bob the certified battlefield guide was amazing. He brought the scene to life and very cleverly interpreted the events of the three day battle into six chapters. I am still amazed at how much information he knew! He could bring areas to life with great quotes, well timed humorous stories, and an uncanny ability to remember facts. A great aspect of his tour was tying all the events together to show how the battle unfolded in multiple spots over the three days, and how very slight nuances in timing altered the course of history. Again, the biking aspect was not too difficult, and there were enough stops to allow us to easily complete the 12-13 miles. Take the 4 hour tour or you will miss the best parts! read more

Fabulous tour! This is for sure the way to go when visiting Gettysburg! The tour was very informative! We had Bob as our tour guide and he was really great at keeping the adults and kids engaged in the tour! The staff was fantastic from the start.
