I checked out the website and was surprised how affordable the tour was. When we got there, Ed took us in and got us signed up. The tour lasted about 2.5 hours (close to three with the breaks). It was very informative and we hit all the highlights of the town and the battlefields. There is only maybe one or two stops where you can get out and take pictures....but you get familiar with the area so you can drive back through at your leisure and take all the photos you like wherever you choose. Would I recommend this tour company? Absolutely! There are also other ways to see Gettysburg (horseback, mini motorcycle/carts)....but a bus tour I think is the best way to go!

There is a parking lot attached to the bottom of an elevated building. This is where I parked. The building offers bathrooms and a rotating information screen that provides information about local places of interest as well as ads. The trail is located just past that. A train car from the old railroad that the trail follows sits right near the beginning. This car was restored and now features a museum with old railroad memorabilia, timelines and videos inside. It is free to the public and is open from dawn until dusk. Considering it is unattended and maintained by the University, I was surprised with how great the shape of it is. It seemed like a legit, albeit small, museum. The first mile of the trail is paved. It runs through wooded areas that are just outside Shippensburg University buildings on one side and town spots on the other. The trail crosses over a pretty cool bridge and goes under a small underpass. At the one mile mark there is a park with pavilions, a play area, restrooms and wide open fields. I'd love to return sometime when it is a bit warmer to explore more sections of the 12ish mile long trail.

Amanda was amazing texting me my options and explaining that she could sell my spots and refund me. Even though it was 24 hours before our trip I was able to be refunded for my entire tour. I was so thankful and it just helped with me not being disappointed. On a side note- my new husband and I had been on this tour about a year ago and it was fantastic and why we wanted to go again with all my family. The tour guides are knowledgeable and the horses are friendly for even the most novice rider. I fully recommend this tour to all my friends!

The tour is accompanied by a tour guide, using an earbud and receiver to talk about the battles and the different stages of the tour as you go along. They also have 2 additional employees that ride along to deal with any rowdy horses, to stop traffic, or really handle anything that comes up along the way. This is nice as I have only rode a horse once before, and it's helpful to have someone to assist if your horse doesn't want to listen (mine was actually pretty good). Overall, we had a great time and would like to do it again with my son next time.

These guides are highly trained and specialized and insanely knowledgeable- we had excellent discussion and so much in depth learning about the battlefield as we trotted along. The carriage is Victorian style and very comfortable- and ours was pulled by two gorgeous Percheron mares, Kate and Trina - sisters!! They were so beautiful and so sweet! Sarah and Bogey (sp??) were our our drivers and they were so great to the horses and very skilled at handling anything that came up. Our guide was Chris and he was just incredible- I'd be shocked if there was anything he didn't know about Gettysburg lol!! Even his ancestors were part of the battle! Not only did he provide tons of info about the ins and outs of the battle, but he also dropped fun little pearls of trivia along the way - things like how the shapes of certain monument bases have different meanings and how the "avenues" were put in for tourists lol!! The guides have to pass a rigorous learning/testing regime to even be able to do the tours so you know they know their stuff! The tour is totally fun - but also treated with the utmost respect for the gravity of the subject - so many lives lost - such a tragic and heavy piece of history. I strongly urge anyone to take a guided tour on your visit - interacting with such knowledgeable guides really helps get a better understanding of the battle and the core issues etc. The tour starts in town at the Gettysburg Heritage Center - very easy to find and plenty of parking. They pick you up in the carriage right out front and off you go! The tour lasts around 2 hours and they let you interact with the horses afterwards if you want! Can't recommend it enough!!

One of…read morethe other tour guides scoffed when I mentioned we had booked Civil War Tours so I was nervous about the quality but I thought my money was well spent. Our tour guide was Clinton and he was pleasant and knowledgeable and also an excellent storyteller. He told us five ghost stories that included great historical information about the areas we were in. It gave a lot of context to our visit and helped us to understand more of what happened in town during those days in 1863. I had a 5 year old and a 10 year old on the tour and while the 5 year old was a little bored he was still engaged enough. The 10 year old loved it and absorbed every detail. Overall I would say that the knowledge of the guides and their ability to accommodate larger groups safely and also take last minute bookings deserve a 5 star review.

She did tie some of the reported incidents to various Civil War stories and these were interesting. She carried several EMF meters and the two that were handed out and used displayed some high blink rates now and then that could have as easily been caused by the large power transformers hanging from many of the phone poles we stopped next to. The entire tour was conducted alongside a very busy and brightly-lit street with unmuffled motorcycles, careening pickup trucks, and 18-wheelers passing by in abundance. We really wanted to step closer to one or two of the buildings, or onto a side street where history had happened, but never managed to leave the sidewalk to where we could have actually examined Civil War battle damage or haunted sites. Oh well. This was my fourth visit to Gettysburg and my first ghost tour, and I think it's time to file both away as "you were there" memories and move on.

We stood on the streets and in front of homes as he described how the battles wound around and through their lives. We saw homes that became hospitals and barracks. Chris and Chris absolutely know their stuff and they are passionate about spreading their knowledge. I would definitely recommend watching the videos they have on their website as background orientation to what you will be seeing and hearing. The 3+ hours went by quickly, with 3 or 4 stops, some easy walking, and a lot of narration in the van while moving (if you can't hear well, sit closer to the front) The areas traveled are quite beautiful, too. All in all a very unique experience, certainly unlike anything else, and in our opinion worth the cost and time.

My friends and I experienced the English High Tea Express and had a wonderful time! This event…read moresells out fast! We took a lovely train ride in a historic railcar from New Freedom to Glen Rock which is about a half hour. The conductor pointed out notable sites along the way. We then enjoyed a fabulous high tea at Table 1837 Glen Rock Mill Inn. There was so much to eat that we left with a doggie bag. There were only 3 choices of tea but the salted caramel was delicious. They had 4 finger sandwiches, 2 scones and fruit. We also received a grilled chicken salad as an entree accompanied by a glass of wine (there were 3 choices of wine. Originally we were offered mimosa but then they ran out of orange juice). For dessert, we had Pots du Crème. We boarded the train and headed back to New Freedom. I'd definitely recommend and intend on doing another event in the future.

We headed to Northern Central Railway for their special event The Great Northern Central Train Raid…read moreand had a blast! Plenty of free parking right outside the gift shop/museum (handicapped parking, too). We browsed the gift shop first--lots of train-lover trinkets, and of course, Adventure Buddy snagged a couple of those irresistible 3D wooden train models. I was over the moon when check-in handed us oversized souvenir tickets--complete with our traincar and seats punched out. Such a fun keepsake! The small museum next door took maybe 15 minutes but was nicely done and staffed by a friendly volunteer. After a quick pit stop, we boarded the D. Reed Anderson car. The open windows made for a breezy ride past pretty scenery--green trees, a creek, even small towns like Glen Rock where folks waved from porches. Actors in full Civil War character moved through the cars during the ride, building the story of Union vs. Confederate soldiers battling over rumored gold. At times it was hard to hear or follow the storyline depending on where you sat, but the big skirmish at the park--cannon blasts, musket fire, and all--was definitely the highlight. Tickets were $31.99 and worth it for a few hours of history-meets-theater-meets-train ride fun. This is a great daytrip for adults (grab lunch before and ice cream after nearby). Kids would love the trains, but younger ones may struggle with the length of this particular event. We'll definitely be back in the fall for one of their seasonal rides!
