Bought a full rack of ribs with Cole slaw and Mac& cheese. The ribs were perfect. Very flavorful, a little spicy Smoky flavor and allowed the meat to be the star. The meat was slightly dry but the BBQ sauce made up for it; it wasn't sweet or overpowering and made the ribs taste better. The Mac & cheese was light and paired well with the rib meat mixed in. The Cole slaw was a perfect ending to the meal, slightly sweet and they used these small black seeds that made it really good. I got there when they were closing (they close early, in the afternoon) but they were very happy to wrap my ribs in foil and put them in a box so they don't fall apart. I thought I would not be able to finish it but I sat there in my car at a park close by eating happily...45min flew by and I was surprised to see I ate everything. Don't be discouraged by it's outside appearance and timing, go in and try the food. Any meat lovers will not be disappointed. read more

Gumps is a truly hidden gem! Low key atmosphere but OMG the BBQ is superb. The guys running it are very welcoming and the service is fast and friendly. Today I had a brisket sandwich and the brisket was so tender and flavorful. My daughter got the Mac and Cheese and it was creamy cheese goodness with a touch of spice. For her the fries were a solid hit, said they were so good she didn't need to use ketchup or salt! You want the best BBQ in Lansing, Gumps is the place! read more

Chorizo and bacon burrito and me are forever! The best breakfast burrito in the 517! Gumps is top tier.

Gotta love a good dive that stays focused on what they are good at. The location is a little hidden just west around the corner from Kwik carwash. Dont be discouraged by the cracked glass on the door or the concrete. It is small but welcoming on the inside. Order at the register. There are two freezers, one for desserts and the other for doggie dessert. Limited seating. My pulled pork burrito was done quickly and was delicious. Fountain unsweetened tea mixed with fountain lemonade hit the spot. I'll be stopping here for breakfast or lunch whenever I get the chance. read more

Gumps BBQ - Barbeque Near Me - Lansing, Michigan

We ordered the brisket breakfast burrito, and it was fantastic! The thing was huge, and the hot sauce was kickin'! Not sure what they make the hot sauce with, but, it kinda looked like butterscotch pudding. It was hot, with a sweet flavor too. The thing I would gig them on is adding a gratuity to our bill of six. Had we known that, we would have made two orders, and walked away with the same amount without the extra fee. read more

Ordered pulled pork breakfast burritos to go and we absolutely LOVED them! The burritos are HUGE and stuffed with egg, cheese, potatoes, pulled pork, and sauce. I added bbq and 'everything' sauce to it as I ate it and it was to die for! The price of a burrito includes a drink or coffee, so be sure to grab one if you order carry out. In addition to pulled pork, they offer brisket, chorizo, sausage, and bacon burritos, all of which sound amazing. I highly recommend checking Gumps out for a breakfast burrito, and we'll definitely be back to try their regular bbq menu! read more

I am kinda torn giving this review. First off, I found it when making a delivery to Lansing. It had good reviews and I stopped there. Let me skip over first impressions to my food. I asked the lady at the register her favorite menu item. She said the breakfast burrito. I wasn't thinking that, but ordered it with chorizo. It was delicious. Now, back to first impressions... when I walked in the door, the dude/owner/chef/guy in back was dropping "f" bombs galore. He was pissed about this, that and the other thing. And he didn't stop. Made it very uncomfortable for me and other customers. "Dude, get a grip. You are in food service, and pressure is part of the job. If you read this, don't cuss me out, change your actions in front of customers. Although I personally won't be back to see the change, other customers and your staff will appreciate it." read more

I want to love this place but the people who run it make me want to go to Meat or Gravity instead. Attitude when or if they even bother to pick up the phone and not leave it off hook. No Biscuits and Gravy today. No Nachos today. Do you even have food? Went in one day and was told it was going to be an hour+ wait because they took a huge to go order over the phone. Call in the next time and told they are too busy to deal with to go orders and I needed to come in if I wanted to place an order. read more

Very good brisket and a good portion for the price with great service. Pretty small place and only open for breakfast and lunch. Will be back read more

Their good reviews are NOT exaggerated. Lunch from here was delicious! Placed a pickup order to try Gump's for the very first time and felt bad because I arrived late (didn't realize their hours had changed for the reopening and they closed at 1 + was running late at work). The owner (I assume) was super nice and kept reassuring me it was fine. God bless you sir, as I've worked in the restaurant business for many years and know what a pain such a late customer is. Food was amazing. I ordered a brisket breakfast burrito and Gump's Nachos, and he ended up giving me a free pulled pork sandwich due to a mixup. Brisket breakfast burrito: incredible. I think Gump's is most famous for their breakfast burritos and for good reason. It was delicious! Reheated well the next day, too. Gump's Nachos: also delicious. I was about an hour late to pickup, and even soggy (and even reheated the next day) they were amazing!! I'm drooling just thinking of them. Most places don't do takeout nachos to my liking, but theirs is amazing. And overloaded with toppings! Pulled pork sandwich: the meat was so good. Their coleslaw was nice and crunchy. I probably wouldn't have ordered it on my own as I'm not crazy about pulled pork, but theirs is so good that I'm definitely adding it to my list. read more

This place ROCKS! I was referred by a coworker (who understands my breakfast obsession.) I ordered the Brisket breakfast burrito and was given a HUGE BURRITO jam packed with flavor! Good price. The owner saw that I had my dog when I pulled up and even gave my pup a cup of the brisket, which he LOVED! Will be back again and spread the word!! read more

I'm writing this to beat Devin Pringle. He is a jerk. The place is badass and smells amazing. The people are really nice. The food is great. I got a breakfast burrito with brisket. Oh my god it's good. Place looks odd but it's worth the trip. It's more like a real Bbq spot than any other one in Lansing Michigan. We have tried them all. read more

Gumps BBQ - Oh my shit. This is delicious. Low carb biscuits and gravy. Just kidding. Definitely not low carb - Barbeque Near Me - Lansing, Michigan

This place is a hidden gem in lansing. Initially I was turned off when I called and they were a little rough around the edges on the phone. The breakfast brisket burrito more than made up for it. That's usually my go to. I've also tried the wings and the nachos. Can't go wrong with either one. If you have a dog and bring your dog the owner always comes out and feeds him delicious meat. read more

Can't rave about this place enough! Very cute hidden gem! Clean and polite staff. Owner very knowledgeable about the biz and super nice guy! Food is out of this world! read more

Gump bbq? More like dump bbq! This place had the worst service I've experienced. We walked in to order and the guy suggested we leave because we didn't order ahead of time. It was a disgusting act! He didn't even want our service, let alone the prices were steeper than mt. Everest. I would never suggest this place to anyone and highly recommend steering clear of dumps bbq! read more

First timer today and I gotta say that it was phenomenal. My co-workers and I checked it out during lunch and the line moved quickly. We got our food fast and enjoyed the weather on one of their picnic tables out front. I had the brisket sandwich which was moist and had a nice bark on it. Wasn't crazy about the mac n' cheese but the cheesy potatoes were fantastic. I'll definitely be back to test out other items on their menu. One thing I want to try is the breakfast burritos which were very large and seemed to be a common order amongst others that were ordering. This place is a hidden gem! read more

The ribs. Scored a deal on a full rack because they were near closing time and had run out of stuff. I ordered pulled pork nachos as well and drove my precious cargo home and devoured one half of my food. The BBQ sauce was not too sweet which can really over power the meat. The ribs were just right with enough pull on them so that they were not "fall off the bone". If you like that kind of thing, just order pulled pork. I enjoy the savagery of putting a little work in to get the meat apart from the bone. I was really going there for a breakfast burrito but that will be for next time. Service was stellar. I was glad to make the trip from Bath/East Lansing to get to this little gem. The nachos were getting cold by the time I got home though they were very very good. read more

Just like the jaywalker who gets out of the hospital and runs back into traffic, I keep going back to Gumps ever so often thinking "this time it won't hurt, this time it will be okay". Nope, I'm done. It's easy to run down the street when I'm having a lunch crisis and pop into Gumps. The crisis that usually follows is not so easy. I really want to like the food, it should be good but it's not. I can get past the fact that it's a dump, that's not that important. But they've been in business for a while with very little done to make it look like anything but a trash heap. And prices are kinda ridiculous for what you get. Thirteen dollars for a weak af buffalo chicken wrap? They didn't have nachos today, really? At 11:00 am you don't have the only thing worth eating here? Sides are pretty heavy, I would expect them to taste a little better for as rich as they are. It's not 2006 anymore, there is better bbq in Lansing. read more

Great food. Horrible service for anyone with a slightly large order. And they also charge more to make a bigger order. Place is a joke

I've been to Gumps quite a few times and it's a special place. I love the small industrial set up with eclectic wall decorations, and what they have done with the interior space. It's actually not so bad in terms of finding a seat assuming you want to eat there. They have a great takeout system that is fast, and since they open early in the morning, you can get your lunch in advance on your way to work. Cool idea. The food is fantastic, which each sandwich or dish having something interesting in how it's cooked or seasoned. The sides are extremely tasty, including some of the best macaroni and cheese and cheese potatoes in the area. I think the prices are reasonable because (A) you get a lot of food and (B) its extremely tasty and uses high quality ingredients (none of the dishes feel like "fillers"). The folks working there are friendly and help take care of you, whether it's making sure you have all you need for takeout or finding a seat in the restaurant. They regularly ask about the food too, so you can be part of letting them know what works and what doesn't. Each time I go they usually have something new that they are trying out, which is also cool. I really recommend this place strongly. read more

My husband and I happened to be taking a shortcut from Cedar St to Washington and saw a sign for Gump's BBQ. We love BBQ, so we decided to try it. It was just a little hole in the wall place, but we know that's often where you find the best food. We weren't disappointed! We decided to try the nachos and split a brisket sandwich. The nachos were amazing! The best BBQ nachos we have ever had! They have pulled pork on them, and the chips they use are very good. The brisket sandwich was the best we've had, because it was loaded with chunks of tender brisket. (I prefer chunks to pulled meat.) My husband loved the beans. They have a nice smoky taste, and Gump's uses a variety of beans in their dish. The cheesy potatoes are delicious, and the mac and cheese is also good. We also liked their house made sauce. We have been back several times, although not as much as we'd like, as they close at 2 pm. We love our bbq, and have been to just about every place in Lansing, but Gump's is our hands down favorite! read more
