Gotta love a good dive that stays focused on what they are good at. The location is a little hidden just west around the corner from Kwik carwash. Dont be discouraged by the cracked glass on the door or the concrete. It is small but welcoming on the inside. Order at the register. There are two freezers, one for desserts and the other for doggie dessert. Limited seating. My pulled pork burrito was done quickly and was delicious. Fountain unsweetened tea mixed with fountain lemonade hit the spot. I'll be stopping here for breakfast or lunch whenever I get the chance. read more

Not sure what they make the hot sauce with, but, it kinda looked like butterscotch pudding. It was hot, with a sweet flavor too. The thing I would gig them on is adding a gratuity to our bill of six. Ordered pulled pork breakfast burritos to go and we absolutely LOVED them! The burritos are HUGE and stuffed with egg, cheese, potatoes, pulled pork, and sauce. I added bbq and 'everything' sauce to it as I ate it and it was to die for! The price of a burrito includes a drink or coffee, so be sure to grab one if you order carry out. In addition to pulled pork, they offer brisket, chorizo, sausage, and bacon burritos, all of which sound amazing. I am kinda torn giving this review. First off, I found it when making a delivery to Lansing. It had good reviews and I stopped there. Let me skip over first impressions to my food. I asked the lady at the register her favorite menu item. She said the breakfast burrito. I wasn't thinking that, but ordered it with chorizo. It was delicious. Now, back to first impressions... when I walked in the door, the dude/owner/chef/guy in back was dropping "f" bombs galore. He was pissed about this, that and the other thing. And he didn't stop. Made it very uncomfortable for me and other customers. "Dude, get a grip. You are in food service, and pressure is part of the job. I want to love this place but the people who run it make me want to go to Meat or Gravity instead. Attitude when or if they even bother to pick up the phone and not leave it off hook. No Biscuits and Gravy today. No Nachos today. Do you even have food? Went in one day and was told it was going to be an hour+ wait because they took a huge to go order over the phone. Placed a pickup order to try Gump's for the very first time and felt bad because I arrived late (didn't realize their hours had changed for the reopening and they closed at 1 + was running late at work). First timer today and I gotta say that it was phenomenal. My co-workers and I checked it out during lunch and the line moved quickly. We got our food fast and enjoyed the weather on one of their picnic tables out front. I had the brisket sandwich which was moist and had a nice bark on it. Wasn't crazy about the mac n' cheese but the cheesy potatoes were fantastic. I'll definitely be back to test out other items on their menu. The ribs. Scored a deal on a full rack because they were near closing time and had run out of stuff. I ordered pulled pork nachos as well and drove my precious cargo home and devoured one half of my food. The BBQ sauce was not too sweet which can really over power the meat. The ribs were just right with enough pull on them so that they were not "fall off the bone". If you like that kind of thing, just order pulled pork. I enjoy the savagery of putting a little work in to get the meat apart from the bone. I was really going there for a breakfast burrito but that will be for next time. Service was stellar. Bought a full rack of ribs with Cole slaw and Mac& cheese. The ribs were perfect. Very flavorful, a little spicy Smoky flavor and allowed the meat to be the star. The meat was slightly dry but the BBQ sauce made up for it; it wasn't sweet or overpowering and made the ribs taste better. The Mac & cheese was light and paired well with the rib meat mixed in. The Cole slaw was a perfect ending to the meal, slightly sweet and they used these small black seeds that made it really good. I got there when they were closing (they close early, in the afternoon) but they were very happy to wrap my ribs in foil and put them in a box so they don't fall apart. I thought I would not be able to finish it but I sat there in my car at a park close by eating happily...45min flew by and I was surprised to see I ate everything. Don't be discouraged by it's outside appearance and timing, go in and try the food. Any meat lovers will not be disappointed. read more

Just like the jaywalker who gets out of the hospital and runs back into traffic, I keep going back to Gumps ever so often thinking "this time it won't hurt, this time it will be okay". Nope, I'm done. It's easy to run down the street when I'm having a lunch crisis and pop into Gumps. The crisis that usually follows is not so easy. I really want to like the food, it should be good but it's not. I can get past the fact that it's a dump, that's not that important. But they've been in business for a while with very little done to make it look like anything but a trash heap. And prices are kinda ridiculous for what you get. Thirteen dollars for a weak af buffalo chicken wrap? They didn't have nachos today, really? At 11:00 am you don't have the only thing worth eating here? Sides are pretty heavy, I would expect them to taste a little better for as rich as they are. It's not 2006 anymore, there is better bbq in Lansing. read more

I've been to Gumps quite a few times and it's a special place. I love the small industrial set up with eclectic wall decorations, and what they have done with the interior space. It's actually not so bad in terms of finding a seat assuming you want to eat there. They have a great takeout system that is fast, and since they open early in the morning, you can get your lunch in advance on your way to work. Cool idea. The food is fantastic, which each sandwich or dish having something interesting in how it's cooked or seasoned. The sides are extremely tasty, including some of the best macaroni and cheese and cheese potatoes in the area. I think the prices are reasonable because (A) you get a lot of food and (B) its extremely tasty and uses high quality ingredients (none of the dishes feel like "fillers"). The folks working there are friendly and help take care of you, whether it's making sure you have all you need for takeout or finding a seat in the restaurant. They regularly ask about the food too, so you can be part of letting them know what works and what doesn't. Each time I go they usually have something new that they are trying out, which is also cool. I really recommend this place strongly. read more

My husband and I happened to be taking a shortcut from Cedar St to Washington and saw a sign for Gump's BBQ. We love BBQ, so we decided to try it. It was just a little hole in the wall place, but we know that's often where you find the best food. We weren't disappointed! We decided to try the nachos and split a brisket sandwich. The nachos were amazing! The best BBQ nachos we have ever had! They have pulled pork on them, and the chips they use are very good. The brisket sandwich was the best we've had, because it was loaded with chunks of tender brisket. (I prefer chunks to pulled meat.) My husband loved the beans. They have a nice smoky taste, and Gump's uses a variety of beans in their dish. The cheesy potatoes are delicious, and the mac and cheese is also good. We also liked their house made sauce. We have been back several times, although not as much as we'd like, as they close at 2 pm. We love our bbq, and have been to just about every place in Lansing, but Gump's is our hands down favorite! read more
