Family owned and operated. It's definitely impressive when the cashier can tell you that the rice was made today by her sister. The portions are huge and at a great price. I got the fried flounder with rice and hush puppies. All were amazing. Flounder was fresh with a tasty batter and fried to perfection. There were huge pieces and shrimp and chicken in the rice, which was cooked perfectly. And the hush puppies were little balls of cornbread. How many times must I drive by a simple non-prepossessing place like this before I learn not to judge a book by its cover? Though there is seating for perhaps 15 people and the wait can sometimes be extensive, the food is 1,000 percent worth it. If you enjoy authentic Gullah seafood, or more likely have never had it, then you need to get your tuckus off of I-95, put down the McDonald's hamburger and get yourself a taste of real South Carolina coastal cuisine. The garlic butter snow crab was amazing. The gullah shrimp were my favorite, but I wish we had ordered 2 plates, because the kids inhaled them! Hush puppies were crunchy outside, moist and flavorful inside. The only negative was the crab cakes- not a lot of crab, deep fried, might have been frozen. (Coming from MD, I'm picky about crab cakes. ) It was such a delicious lunch, I'm seriously considering going back for dinner, since we leave town tonight. read more

Honestly don't even waste your time going here. The food is good, but not good enough to wait over 2 hours for it. Every time we place an order over the phone, they tell us it'll be 30 mins. We have waited over 2 hours for our food. We will just stop coming. They don't seem to care if they make you wait that long either. read more

We were driving up i95 from Florida to New Jersey and decided to take our time and eat at as many unique stops as possible. Gullah Gullah did not disappoint. After stopping in Savannah, GA we planned on going to Tubbs in Florence, but alas ran into traffic on i95 and realized that we weren't going to make it before closing. We found Gullah Gullah on Yelp and the reviews, while few, were all 5 star. And we agree! We rolled in around 9:20 and the restaurant closes it's doors at 10pm. The owner's graciously accepted us even though they were close to shutting down their kitchen for the night. And not only did the accept us, they went out of their way to make us feel welcome, including giving us an extra waffle with our chicken & waffles to feed our 3 (very tired) kids and 3 servings of carrot cake for dessert... delicious. We got a bunch of assorted appetizers, including gator bites, hush puppies, crab cakes, wings and french fries. The french fries were amazing (and plentiful). The true gem and what I would suggest ordering is the crab leg/shrimp combo. I had it with the garlic sauce. It was one of the best seafood dishes that I've ever had... and that is coming from someone who gets fresh seafood all of the time on the Jersey shore. They were out of corn on the cob, so gave me extra hard boiled eggs. It also had sliced sausage that was out of this world. This place was a hole in the wall that no one would expect, but if you want some great southern seafood just a little off the beaten path, check it out! read more

Traveling South on 95 and decided to try based on Yelp reviews. We were not disappointed! The atmosphere was cozy and casual. The woman that took our order was very friendly and helpful in explaining the menu. My husband had the fried shrimp over rice and said the batter on the shrimp was delicious. The rice had a nice slightly spicy flavor. My steamed shrimp were tender and flavorful. We shared the hush puppies.... probably best I've ever had, almost like savory homemade doughnuts . If you get the chance to be in Manning,SC you really need to check out a little restaurant on Boyce St. Right across from the Court House! Lynne and I dined at "Gullah Gullah Fish" Saturday evening as it was EXCELLENT! It is a small place (only seats 12) so as reservation might be in order. We arrived at 5:30, any there was plenty of room, but it can fill up fast. The menu is Gullah style seafood and other Gullah goodies like Oxtail! GGF is a small family run business where you are treated just like family. We decided to try several dishes and all were superb. I first ordered the Softshell crab Po'boy. It was to die for. Lynne ordered the Crab cakes and slaw. I knew better than to reach for a piece! We then tried the Fried Flounder. It was perfectly done, light, moist and flakey. Hush Puppies were very tasty. The last order was the Snow Crab Combo. Two clusters of Snow Crab legs, Corn on the Cob, Smoked Sausage, and Gullah Shrimp. I do believe if I had put a Crab leg on my head my tongue would have slapped a groove in my forehead trying to get to it! All of this food was done to perfection. We took two boxes of left over home for tonight's supper! And the Price? Soooo reasonable. A tip of my hat to the family that made us feel at home with family. We will go back. Ps... The food was prepared to order but no one in our group was impressed. We walked in and only one person was in the restaurant. That person returned their order because it was not cooked well. That should have been our clue. We had to wait over an hour for our food only to find the rice was under cooked, the crab cakes were not actual crab. The gator bites were over battered and the broccoli was swimming in butter. Maybe we picked a bad day but unfortunately we will not be back. read more

We found Gullah Gullah through Yelp and were not disappointed. Party of 4 arrived for lunch and were greeted along with several other customers that were coming in. The warm greeting and the fact that the small restaurant was busy were good signs in our eyes. We ordered and sat down. The nice lady behind the counter came out and gave us some pamphlets and magazines with the history of the town which was interesting on itself to see the history of the buildings around us that we probably would have never noticed. Each dish is cooked to order and it's not "fast food" but it was delicious food. The taste and serving sizes were excellent from everyone's perspective with choices of founder, soft shell crab sandwich, catfish nuggets and a shrimp po boy amongst us four. DO NOT leave without getting Gullah bites for dessert. We could have made a meal of these outstanding warm, sweet doughy balls of love. This little hidden gem in downtown Manning, SC is well worth the short hop and stop off I-95, especially if you love low country cuisine or just plain love seafood. Tiny by most standards, with only 6 tables, and not long on ambiance, Gullah Gullah MORE than makes up for these incidental things in the two categories that are the soul of dining out ... huge doses of Southern hospitality that are heaped on top of the singularly excellent food. No short cuts to great eating here! The fish was done to perfection, and perfectly seasoned. The Gullah Rice, a new taste experience for me, is a party in your mouth, fluffy, buttery and loaded with flavor, especially when you add in the Gullah sauce! Mercy, it will give you the vapors it's so damn good! The hush puppies are seriously to die for and the cole slaw was a perfect, creamy counterpoint to the fish and accompaniments. The owners are the most patient, gracious people and answered this Yankee's questions about Gullah cuisine without making me feel like an idiot (as some who are so steeped in their culinary heritage may be inclined to do.) Gullah Gullah is now my permanent midway stop on my journey north and back again! read more
