Warning to anyone buying from this seller through Reverb. Please do not let what happened to me happen to you. Guitar Wars knowingly bait and switched me on a Roland JC 120 amplifier. The price seemed fair enough and the picture seemed to match the description, however, the amp I received was a far cry from either. It arrived in an unsalvageable old furniture box, poorly packed, and absolutely beat to death. The model JC 120 that was delivered was not the same amplifier as the one advertised. It was hardly functional, the cabinet was cracked and tattered, channels popping and fizzing and knobs mostly not functioning. On top of that, it was filthy. Anyone who has ever played through a JC 120 knows that these are heavy amps that require casters to move them in any reasonable fashion. While pictured with the clean amp in the listing (the one that I did not receive), the tattered and battered model that was delivered to me did not have them. So here I am, essentially stuck with a useless burned out shell of a JC 120 that's basically immovable by one person without a hand truck. See pictures below. Guitar Wars knowingly scammed me out of $800+, don't let it happen to you. Please keep in mind, this did not happen in shipping. This was very much orchestrated intentionally. The staff are very friendly and helpful, always willing to talk about gear and assisting customers in finding the right piece of gear at the right price. I purchased a Squier Baritone Telecaster from them and they were very kind and helpful throughout the whole process. They even included a free strap as part of my purchase. They were engaging in good COVID safety and were very kind to help me with all the gear I was digging on and I bought some great stuff and they cut me a deal! Ok, so now on to the interior - this place RULES! It's got a Han Solo in carbonite and an area for LIVE SHOWS! Dude - San Jose has got some cred again! I needed to get my guitar set up and called 5 places, all of them saying I either need an appointment two weeks from now or to drop off my guitar today and pick it up in two weeks. I came across Guitar Wars after several pages and expanding the search area. Gave them a call and they said I can drop it off today and pick it up tomorrow. Amazing! Regarding the hours: Yelp [as of July 14, 2020] said they opened at 11 but their website said noon. Be aware that the website is also out of date, because of the pandemic it's 12-7p or 12-5p [depending on the day] and not 12-9p. Guitar Wars is a bit far from my residence, but it's worth it. Previous guitar places seem intimidating, but this place seems fun and welcoming! I asked for the string action to be higher because I prefer death grip over fret buzz. The distance is now perfect and the new strings feel really nice. I'll definitely come back for the next setup! read more

This place is cool! My fiance loves coming in here and looking around. You always are gonna find some rare item, like a guitar pedal or other piece of equipment. The store recently changed locations, but I appreciate this one more. The new location has more space for the guitars and the equipment. Also provided their name, they have a bunch of star wars memorabilia, which is pretty cool. They also have some shows throughout the year. I've been to about 3-4 of them, mostly the punk or metal type. It's a great way to find some good local bands if you have some friends to young to go to the bars with Haha. One of my favorite guitars needed some fret work and is a pain in the butt to setup because it's a Floyd Rose... everyone else quoted me well over 100 just to look at it and I was like, "maybe another day." Moved to South San Jose and found out this place was literally 2 minutes from my new home. WHAT A GREAT FIND! For 75 bucks my guitar plays like brand new, has new strings, perfect action, the frets are wonderful, and is completely polished in every nook and cranny, to boot! I'm going to take every single guitar and bass I have to these guys. The store is also seriously cool - how I didn't notice the giant Han Solo "tomb" in the back on my first visit I have no idea, but just a great shop and great people. I don't usually bother with Yelp, but I felt like hopping on just to make this review I'm so happy with them! Decided to stop by and check it out while in San Jose for a funeral - really cool, a Star Wars Themed Guitar Shop......why no one had thought of this sooner, I don't know. The staff is nice, they don't try to sell to you, and they have a 10 min rule on playing to keep the kids from spending all day showing off. First off, the place is cool just for having such a wide variety of guitars ranging from the little Harmony H-803 hanging by the door, to the crazy Framus in the back, to a lucite left-handed bass - mixed in with some RJT Jazzmaster Clones (Offsets are always a win with me). Came in to check out pedals, wound up buying a pickup for one of my project builds (SD Detonator). I'm going to have to go back there and buy some more stuff. And the prices are great. Also what's cool - no guitar shop I've ever visited in my 23 years of playing guitar have I ever seen a shop that's open till 9pm and hosts rock concerts out front. read more

I am happy to call Guitar Wars my friendly neighborhood music shop. As a life long South Bay local I have frequented the better known music stores in the area but had never ventured out to this side of town until I relocated to the east side. Although it is a small shop they carry a nice variety of gear. My presence was acknowledged by staff when I entered with my two sons and we felt welcome to take our time exploring the gear and decor hassle free. We enjoyed trying on the different Star Wars helmets, then my boys played on the keyboards while I checked out the amplifiers and effect pedals. They have a lot of used gear which is what I prefer and I was quoted a reasonable price on their guitar maintenance/upgrade service. read more

The Force is strong with these ones! Total beginner but got my hands on a nice entry level guitar that had been sitting for a few years to learn on. Brought it in to get it checked out and tuned up before I started learning and these guys were great. They walked me through what it needed and were able to squeeze me in between a couple other guitars to get new strings, slight neck adjustment and check out of the electronics while I waited. They were friendly and I felt they were enthusiastic to have someone brand new to guitar come into the store. Prices were good and service was excellent and I got just what I needed with no attempt to sell me on more than I needed. Would give them a few more stars if I could. read more

My daughter needed a tuner and Yelped this place in So San Jose. I didn't want to drive all the way to Guitar Center and I always lean towards small business rather than big chain businesses. I have to say as soon as I walked in I was amazed by the Star Wars collection!! Loved it. I took longer admiring the collection than getting my daughter's tuner. The owner was really nice and got us everything we needed like a bass case, a few picks and a strap. My Dad owns this Gibson Acoustic Guitar that's about 50+ years old that has been sitting in the garage collecting dust, with missing strings and needed to be restored. I went in Guitar Wars and loved the cleanliness and Star Wars theme look of the store, was greeted by Carlos. I needed strings to be replaced and had cracks all over the body so I got strings replaced, fixed body gaps all for $70 repairs, and bought a $5.95 guitar strap.
