I guess the B team must work on Sundays... There used to be a time when the sales people at guitar center were knowledgeable about the products they sold. Maybe the company isn't paying for trade show attendance for its employees anymore. This was the 2nd time I asked simple inventory questions about Fender guitars and received no help. It's like the salesperson didn't even want to listen to what I was asking. On top of pretty terrible pricing on everything it's no wonder people are shopping online for these high dollar items. I'll likely close my credit card with the store and switch to online shopping at Sweetwater only. read more

This place is like Toys R' Us for musicians. There's a decent selection for just about anything you're looking for musically and the store itself is very clean and organized. I came in on March 11th to purchase some new home studio equipment. I had an idea of what I wanted but wanted to gain some insight from one of the employees here. Unfortunately, getting help from an employee at this place is nearly impossible if you're on the sales floor. Typically this would annoy me but I had an idea of what I wanted and I just figured I'd grab everything I wanted that didn't require an associate to open anything. I went around and grabbed a mic stand, some new audio-technica headphones, an alesis mixer, some sterling studio monitors, a pop filter, a noise cancellation screen and needed an associate to help me with an audio-technica condenser mic. Once I had everything up front getting service was no issue, although the associates really didn't seem to enthused to help. About $600 later I was out of the place. Typically, given my experience, I would give this location three stars. Unfortunately the studio monitors I bought stopped working after ten minutes. I've had several studio setups so this wasn't a major deal. I came back in on March 13th to exchange the stuff. Again I felt like a burden to the associate helping me but the exchange was painless. If they didn't have everything I wanted and the store wasn't as nice as it is I would definitely be giving this place 2 or 3 stars because their customer service is atrocious. But considering the prices are competitive with online stores and I can actually get things same day I'm giving this place 4 stars. Seriously though, fix the customer service. read more

Let me start off by saying that I have been in the industry for over 40 years recording, touring, composing, teaching, and producing. I own my own label and studio. I possess a DMA and am proficient on several instruments. I have done business with both of the east valley GC's over the years. Last week I noticed a microphone set (used)online at the Avondale, AZ. store that I was interested in. I was negotiating a straight across trade, trading my Audio Technica ATR2500. They are both around the same price with the ATR2500 running around $20 more. The young lady at Avondale Guitar Center's pro audio dept. was very helpful and it was obvious that she had some working experience in the biz. She had suggested that, since I had two stores closer to me than their store, that I go to one of the closer stores to do the actual trade-in and then have that store contact them when the credit was in the system and they would send the mics over to the closer store for pick up. VERY helpful. Here's where I have a problem ...I went to the Tempe, AZ. store to do the actual trade as instructed. I explained to the gentleman at the counter what it was that we were doing. Now, I am aware that when a store buys a piece of used gear that it buys it for about half of what they sell it for. But in the case of this trade, the gentleman was pushing a situation that would profit twice off of me. The set I wanted to trade for was around $75. So, it was bought for probably, around $35-$40. I have no problem with a business earning, in this case, $40 profit. What I do have a problem with is having someone try to double down on profit by attempting to give 50% worth ($35-$40)on my trade as well, of which they would certainly turn around and sell it for $75 on top of the other profit. One or the other. NOT both. That isn't the deal discussed and is not how to bolster customer trust. I was trading a, $75 mic (used price), for a used mic that G.C. had listed for $73 and prob paid half of that for it. I was trading my mic FOR a mic, not selling it. If you are only going to give 50% purchase credit that's fine, then give the other item at the 50% purchase price that YOU bought it for. Either way, you are still coming away with an approx. $40 profit. Don't be greedy. This gentleman could not see his way to helping facilitate the original deal, even going so far as to try and play me for an idiot by pulling up a price from a closed eBay sale where someone had been lucky enough to get an unusually smoking deal as if that were the average price. We all know this "pawn shop trick", and since when does eBay dictate Guitar Center policy.., but when I suggested that we use the same pricing method on the mic pack I was wanting to see what king of lo-ball price we could find on that, he became more than a little indignant. So, instead of your business making a profit and me getting the product I wanted, nobody came away with anything. In this industry professional courtesies go a long way to building loyalty. Employees seem to have tunnel vision. Stood in line to just ask one yes/no question, and I patiently waited. Then, when I was next customer the rep calls someone to help the person who just walked up not even in line. I finally spoke up to ask my question, and it took less than 2 seconds to get my answer. They tag teamed ringing everything up and the whole staff stayed after hours on a Saturday night to make sure all went through okay. So I bought a practice stand online from Guitar Center but the screw was too big on the stand. So I called this location and Lucy came up with a solution that is working very nicely for me. Called the store to verify that a specific item was in stock, and I was told that it was. However, upon driving down to pick it up, I found that it was not in fact in stock at the moment. I was very disappointed, but Raul made sure that I left as a happy customer. He found the item in one of the warehouses and had it shipped via next day air to my home, which still worked for me because technically I didn't need the item until the next evening. This is the most real review on GC here, so read on: Guitar Center is a festering disease that needs to be stamped out. It's the wallmart of music stores. It is employed by world class douche nuggets that think, just cause they work at guitar center, that they have some type of credentials in regards to gear purchasing. Being a professional musician myself, I try to stay away from GC at all times in order to maintain sanity. Reason 1 As a professional musician, I find that GC doesn't carry anything I would purchase other than drum sticks, gig bags, and miscellaneous items. Never will I buy a drum set, for they do not carry sizes outside of the butt-rock/heavy metal spectrum. Never will I buy a cymbal from there, for they have none that sound good, and if there is the chance that they may have an ok K zildj, it's monstrously overpriced. They don't even carry the drum heads I use. Reason 2 The douchebags. The last thing I need when I'm coming in to pick up some sticks, or a hardware accessory, is dude telling me what he thinks I should buy. Usually I try to be nice, but once in a while I have to go off. Like: "You should check out the Dennis Chambers Stick", says Guitar Center Douche. "No thanks, I like those peter erskine ride sticks quite fine", me. "I'm telling you, if you're doing Jazz, those Dennis Chambers sticks are the way to go. I always use them when I play Jazz." Guitar Center Douche. "Oh really, when's that, at your house at night, cause I've never seen you out at any of the clubs playing." Me. "yeah, well I mostly play metal." Guitar Center Douche. "Yeah, will I mostly play jazz, as my job, so don't try to upsell me on sticks." Me. This reasons is echoed throughout every musician I hang with. The most recent horror story was about my friend try to buy a PRS guitar from them that they accidentally sold while it was on hold for him. The floor clerk had this to say: "Sorry about that dude, how about I go grab a strat of the wall for you." If you play guitar, then you know someone shopping for a PRS probably doesn't need another strat, and you'd think a professional guitar salesman would know too. Reason 3 They treat their product like shit. I don't know how many times I've heard of people getting drum sets, and the dude wheeling out a damaged box, saying the drums are fine, only to find the shells being damaged when they got them home. Also, I've seen one of my buddies go through 4 different premier kits, because the shells were out of round. The GC dude says it must be the boat ride, we called Premier, and they said they ship all their kits via airplane. If you buy a guitar there, take it into a luthier immediately, because GC doesn't tech any of their gear, they just put strings on and hang it on the wall. Reason 4 Guitar wanking in the store... There's nothing that makes me want to beat my head into a wall more than 3 to 6 dudes demoing guitars playing Metallica licks really badly. This also goes for really loud crappy drum solo guy and couldn't play a melody on keyboard piano dude. Reason 5 Their Pro Audio section is the least pro I've seen. It's like mid grade. Poor mic selection too. Reason 6 Their online service has much better selection, way better prices, and a better atmosphere. I understand that all the good ratings are coming from people that don't have such a critical sense of musical gear, but this is understandable for weekend warriors and hobbyists. As a professional musician, I stand behind local shops like Milanos, where one can get some personal service from a dude that really knows his shit about drums, and pay into the community rather than this megalithic Douche Center. read more

I don't think that I can add much to the already posted reviews, but here goes. GC is definitely the Walmart of music stores. It's OK in a pinch, but you wouldn't want it as your mainstay music store. Support the small shops whenever you can. The one good thing about GC is the reason you don't really want to shop there, their return policy. they'll take anything back. Keep that in mind when you are buying something "new" there. Also, there are tons of people who don't know what they are doing going in there everyday and kicking the crap out of their gear. If you buy something high on the wall or out of a glass case, you are probably relatively safe. Protip: You can shop online and have stuff shipped to store and pick it up there, you can save a lot of money on shipping. Protip 2: GC, GC.com, and Musician's Friend are all THE SAME thing. read more

I only went here because my boyfriend is a musician and needed some picks but I agree with the other poster who said it was like the Walmart of guitar centers. I'll go three stars. For Phoenix, it's good to have some of these around to keep a large selection of instruments floating around the valley. Yes, GC is the devil, who puts little guys out of biz while bringing up the douche quality of musicians everywhere. They have annoying sales people who are dangerously uninformed while being horribly brash. They have plenty of crap product and they will sell it to you with glee. There are a few saving graces. 1) I play acoustic guitars. They have a nice selection at several price points which aren't all that horribly priced. You can play the $3k Martins without being bugged and can stay for hours (sometimes a bad thing when old farts decide to play concerts loudly) 2) The sales people are dying to make a sale. If you are going to spend money, they will bargain, just have to push. 3) If you buy used stuff from them from a brand they don't really carry, it may be priced to get out the door. They are afraid they won't sell the stuff and it will just take up space. I hate guitar center except for the acoustic room. There's always someone playing everything too loud. The staff will always show off on your interest before they let you play it. They are the Walmart of music. read more

Eh. Just further proves I really am not a chain type of person. Swung in here over the weekend with a friend hoping to score some sheet music (not entire volumes of collections) for the guitar and maybe the piano and have a guitar restrung. Store seemed small and cramped and the music selection leaves everything to be desired. It was sad. There were no individual songs and even the amount of books was small also. On the plus side, everyone was nice, and they did restring the guitar while we grabbed some food. However, I still prefer my small local music stores. read more

They have a good selection here, but like all guitar centers, they are really over priced. Also, I always feel uncomfortable going in there. I get the feeling that the people working there, and at EVERY GC, feel they are better than the people coming in. Good location and there is plenty of parking. This GC is a little smaller than some of the others around town though. I prefer the location near Metro Mall and I have huge disdain for the Indian Bend location... so I give this a three star salute. read more

The salesmen here are remarkably less used-car-salesman-y than they used to be. In fact, I've rather enjoyed everyone I've dealt with for my last few visits. The selection is usually pretty great--which is the main reason so many of us shop here. And, they'll match any price too. In fact, I don't usually buy anything here without doing my homework first and making them match the best price I found. They will--just know what you're talking about. I have to post this. This has nothing to do with any person who works at the local stores. They have all been kind and helpful. Now, EVERYTHING that I have purchased from this company has either not worked or has broken. Yes, 100%! Now my Ibunez acoustic bass has to be rebuilt. A bass that I practice with and never leaves my room has to be replaced. It has only left the house to go to a repair shop. Neck has warped in a very short time. my fingers started bleeding and I was told to get nylon strings. But now it is trash to me. My Hofner bass which was made in China not Germany like my first Hofner. That's my fault. Not reading. Anyway, it had to be rebuilt too. It's a totally different bass. Fender Rumble 100 amp. I was told to take it to a repair shop and for 6 weeks it sat in the box with nothing being done! I was told that I bought "s___". Fender sucks. How you send me to a place that doesn't even want to work on Fenders was terrible. Don't buy music books on line if you play bass. You can't return it. There was no bass line. No good to me. Most books I see forget bass unless I don't know some secret about playing a chord. No notes or bass tabs. Use the apps instead. read more

I guess it really is customer service. The selection was very diverse, that's good. The people that helped me were most helpful. I have been to other stores that were not so organized but everyone seemed to be working together, and I like that. They are servicing my acoustic ant the gentlemen knew a whole lot more than me. That's good too.. They are not too far out on time either. That's good I'll have to say I had a great experience because I ended up with an awesome sounding Yamaha Trans Acoustic which if you haven't heard one , you should do yourself a favor and pick one up. Not only are they a great sounding guitar gut it has a built in Chorus and reverb which is to say the least very inspirational. With deep sound and a low reverb make it very bright on the mid range. I'm super pleased. If you like the Acoustic, I would put this up against the Martin or Ibanez. The price is not out of the ball park for a great sounding axe. I really like the selection of used instruments as well. I've gotten a few good deals there and they are not afraid to bargain with you. I would rate this one a little above the others I've been in, not to say the other were bad. I love pleasant folks who are courteous and helpful. If you get a salesperson who is too aggressive especially if they are a lot more talented, it's a bit intimidating and can make you feel like you've been snubbed. They used their experience well from what I can tell. They were very busy as well and I think were still able to help everyone. The manager seemed focused but very busy. The tech seemed very knowledgeable and polite. It's hard to get a five stat from me cause I'm so damn particular but no ones perfect. read more

I had a great customer experience today at the Guitar Center in Tempe today. The store is spacious, clean, well lighted, and has a large inventory. I was interested in an acoustical guitar that was smaller than a dreadnought. I was pleased to see both the inventory they had of acoustical guitars and that those guitars are kept in a humidor environment to protect them in perfect condition. One of the customer service reps, Denny, helped me. He was very knowledgeable about the acoustic guitars and helped me with the purchase. I felt really good about the choices that he presented to me. Excellent customer service. Also, I did notice that the store was more than adequately staffed to deal with the weekend traffic. First off let me preface this with I understand that things are different during the Corona Virus thing. I have been buying from Guitar Center for at least 40 years. Always a good experience. Not this time. I ordered a Guitar Online for Curbside Pickup. Everything in the order process went fine. I immediately got an order confirmation email all was good. The email said I would get a follow up email to let me know when it was ready for pickup. 4 hours go by and nothing. I started calling and no one would answer the phone. I called at least 5 times. I waited an hour and tried again, finally someone answered the phone and I asked about the order and when it would be ready so I could pick it up after work. The guy on the phone tells me they didn't even see the order, so I asked "can you get it ready so I can pick it up after work" the guy responds, I'll have to check to see if we have it in stock??? I ordered it, I paid for it what's the problem. The guy checks the computer and says ok no problem computer shows we have 2 in stock. I confirmed they would get the order ready for pickup and was told to give them a call back before I go for further curbside pickup instructions. Again, when I called no one would answer the phone. I decided to head down there. When I got there they tell me "sorry we're out of stock" WTF. The guy gives me a wimpy "sorry" and walks away. Well to end this I go out to the car and called their 800 number and cancelled the order (now I have to wait a week for it to be reversed on my credit card) and I told the phone Rep. why. I also told them they had lost a customer that's been shopping there for 40 years. OBTW this was at the Rancho Cucamonga, Ca. Store. Stay away totally incompetent! read more

Ah GC my go to place when I need some new equipment for my drums. I do like GC because they usually have what I am looking for and if I have to special order something it is usually there pretty quickly, so I will give them props to that, and I don't think that they are too overpriced like some people may think. What I don't like about GC. One they don't offer every type of name brand instruments. 2, the staff are usually still stuck in the 80's and I can usually out play all of them. 3, people trying out equipment who just suck at playing. It's god damn annoying. But in all seriousness if you need a piece of equipment for recording, dj'ing, lighting, amps, keyboards, guitars, or drums, they will have a good enough selection that you can definitely get by and have a great sound!! read more

Super nice, my husband was selling a guitar this time and the customer service representative was excited about it, him and my husband got to talking and that's really what we ask for with customer service- the personal experience and the relatability. Was a decent experience. It seems that every time I go to guitar center with a coupon or a discount marked on a sign in Hollywood and Sherman Oaks that I have to talk with a manager and it becomes a whole process where I seem like the victim. Odd way to treat a very good customer for you. Also, last time I was in Guitar Center some tall guy working there in the guitar section was walking around very upset. He was telling a bunch of people that someone took his pocket knife? He dropped a guitar that someone was interested in on the counter, as well as walking around swearing. This new location is pretty nice and the selection isn't too bad. My only complaint is that some employees in the guitar section aren't very knowledgeable. I don't blame them because if GC hired them without any product knowledge it is on GC to train them. No clue what the hiring and training process is but there should be a test on guitar components/engineering if you're working in the guitar department. Still looking for someone to tell me what PRS string spacing is at the bridge and why the Mark Holcomb sig guitar has string spacing that doesn't align with the pickup. read more

My man needed some part for his guitar project. I will be the first to admit I don't know a thing about guitars. I'm writing such a negative review because we waited at the repairs counter for far too long while 5 employees, within eyeshot of us, sat behind the check out counter and shot the shit. We walked up to ask them for a part and one of the employees points to BEHIND THE REPAIRS COUNTER and says, it'll be over there. "So can I go grab it myself?" My man asked. The boy rolls his eyes and goes to get the part. Turns out they were out. We asked if they'd check the back. He rolls his eyes again and says, "they won't be back there." Come on man, do your job and check! While he's back there another customer walked up to the same counter and I witnessed a repeat of the lack of customer care we just experienced. I know there's another guitar center in the valley and I'm willing to drive to them so I can interact with someone who's capable of doing their job without rolling their eyes and treating the customer as a burden. read more

I can't say enough great things about Lucy. Long story short: fairly new speaker stands, starting to feel pretty badly, past the 45 day return. Not only that, I had GC Pro pricing from my rep for something new, but I couldn't wait and needed to exchange immediately. Lucy handled it like a pro. No questions asked on returning the speaker stands, and was able to secure the same pricing my rep secured for me. In and out in 20 minutes. Hands down, the worst customer service ever! I had a couple thousand dollars and was going in there to buy some amps. Absolutely no one asked to help, and good luck getting anyone's attention. I found a guitar to test out the amp I wanted because I was going to buy it. I looked everywhere for a loose guitar pick. I go to the counter. "Do you have a guitar pick?" I ask. "Nope," says the clerk...SERIOUSLY! IT'S GUITAR CENTER AND THEY DIDN'T HAVE A LOOSE PICK. Anyway, I bought the guitar because it was cool, the staff were anything but. So I expected to spend about $2000.00 and spent $150.00. This happened between 6-7PM February 12, 2017. I found some amps somewhere else. Today, I met an employee named Luis when I was at Guitar Center trying to overcome a huge fear of mine. Essentially, I walked up to hi, and explained my situation. 1. I'm broke and in college 2. I think I have a shot to pursue music and I love it 3. I have no idea what I'm doing Luis was one of the first people I ever told that I make rap music, so to not have him look at me (a goofy looking white guy) and laugh in my face was enough for me. However, sometimes you just meet some good people. I proceeded to spend the rest of my time one on one with this guy who took his time to give me his honest feedback and opinions on multiple different pieces of equipment I needed to pick up in order to complete my home studio. Rather than trying to sell me anything he thought wasn't the right fit, he gave me advice on products that would be just enough to make things work until my next paycheck. On top of all of this, he went beyond the sale and pointed me in the direction of a group that I could reach out to in order to become well versed in the recording software I will be using. Luis helped me get a couple steps closer to making my studio a reality. Even though I ordered some cheap stuff online afterward to use until I can figure out the finances for the rest of my list, I actually ended up spending more money than I intended to walking in. Guitar Center, I can assure you that you'll continue to get my business for as long as your doors are open, and because I can't I hope you all will find some way to reward your employees for being great people. read more

So after researching, and asking a few hundred questions that Thomas and Kyle answered we purchased a sub, two satellites, and two monitors. Last night was our first show publicly using the equipment and my band was so impressed by the way the system worked us. I went to every music store within 20 miles of Tempe trying to find equipment though it was available no one was interested in taking a moment to really talk me through the process. Right from the start these two guys we're honest up front and obviously lead us in the right direction based upon the response of our 200 + visitors last night at a concert. As the manager of Stone Cold Funk in the future when we need to make purchases there are only two people we're dealing with and that will be Thomas and Kyle at the Tempe location Guitar Center. By the way... Thomas even stop by show last night to just "check up on you guys" as he was aware of this was the first show we were using this new equipment. As a recording studio owner and recording artist, Guitar Center is a good place if you are in a pinch and need a piece of gear locally. Also, they're good if you want to go and demo a piece of hardware before you buy. With that said, their prices are generally too high, especially in comparison to online retailers like musicians friend and amazon. Although, sometimes, depending on the sales person you talk to (because all the employees there work on commission im fairly certain) will sometimes work a deal out for you that is comparable. Their selection is not great, but its good enough to do some shopping as I said if you need something right now. read more

Good Morning from Phoenix, My personal review of my buying experience at Guitar Center Scottsdale. Store was clean and staff were friendly. Bret was the sales guy and provided excellent service. Answered all of my questions, interceded with management to get me the best deal possible. I purchased a 2018 Gibson SG standard, heritage cherry in color. A Marshall half-stack and 100W Marshall Head, a wireless guitar to amp system and Friedman Browneye overdrive effect. In essence, about $3000 in product. Love the product. Now, here's the thing. I've dealt with music stores for over 40 years and management/corporate here have to be the cheapest bastards that I've ever dealt with. You would think that Music Center would entice their customers a little with a freebie here or there. After spending upwards of 3 grand, Music Center Scottsdale gave me 13 FREE guitar picks....... that's it. I asked for a strap, a very overpriced Gibson ballcap and a stand. The answer was NO. Bret tried, but management used the guise that, we'll get fired if we do that or the computer system won't let us do that. I call bullshit. Either way it was probably less than $25 to appease or piss off the customer. That's my take, either management isn't smart enough to override their computer system or just cheap bastards as stated earlier. Bought a $800 Taylor acoustic on New Years Eve. They had two in stock. I picked my favorite of the two and asked the salesman to have the luthier adjust the neck. The luthier didn't use the proper tools and twisted a nut driver with a ratchet wrench, ultimately denting the headstock faceplate. I then settled for the second guitar, and was given a gig bag with paperwork for another model, and was much too tight on the guitar. The guitar was stuffed into the gig bag to the point I was concerned for damage. I questioned the salesman but he mention they're all tight. I opted not to have the luthier not touch the second one even though the neck needed tightening. All in all, not the expert help I was expecting. read more
