I had an. Amazing experience yesterday at Guitar Center North in Houston. I was hoping to trade 10 snare drums and 20 Cymbals for some Pro Audio gear. When I arrived, I was immediately welcomed and introduced to Ron who began documenting and pricing my items. While this turned out to be a tedious process (mostly for Ron) he fastidiously labored away. When he told me the value of my gear, I immediately said "let's spend it!" Because of the condition and value of my trade in, I was able to get more than $4,000 in Pro Audio gear for less than $$25 over what I had been offered. Ron was great. The process was smooth. And the "yacht rock" they were playing in the store brought back memories of High School proms! Thanks to Ron and the team at GC North Houston. You're the best! read more

I disregarded the other reviews on here where certain sales people have a chip on their shoulder and they try to repackage defective/used amps as new or open boxed. I feel that as someone walking into this store because it has guitar center should be aware that based on my experience at the store recently those reviews should not be ignored and if possible go to another GC (Tomball, Westheimer, or Yale St.) I had a to exchange an amp because of noise from the Line outputs that is not normal. The replacement I eventually got did not have the issue, but the salesperson did act in an unprofessional manner during the return process. He then went on to say I will test the amp and if it is good I'll put it back out on the floor. The problem is the issue for me was with the line outputs and to test that you would have to take more time than just plugging it up on the shop floor (i.e. Audio Interface, XLR to 1/4 TRS, etc.), which probably did not happen. So instead of a defective unit for sure going back to Fender for proper repairs, there is the chance someone pickups up an amp that is defective as either New or Open Box and has issues down the road. read more

I drove up to North Houston from the Richmond-Rosenberg area to pick up a guitar I had ordered online. Originally, I wanted the guitar to be sent to my home, but because they told me there was only one guitar of that type left, which was already out of the box, I informed Guitar Center that I wanted to see the guitar first before proceeding with next steps (such as cancelling the order, etc.). I arrived at the Guitar Center in North Houston sometime in the afternoon two days later, and I was informed by one of the employees that they had actually found a guitar that was still in the box and shipped it to my address earlier that morning. (I will admit that it was my fault--the update was sent to an email address that I check infrequently.) No worries--it gave me time to check out the shop. The shop is on the side of a non-descript building. Smaller than most Guitar Centers I've frequented before. Stock is decent. The store includes all of the features of a typical Guitar Center, such as the humidifed room for acoustic guitars, which was perfect for me to test out the same model of the guitar I bought that was on the floor. One of the employees mentioned that the stock they carry (or any Guitar Center, iirc) is not customized for the demographics of the area--for example, many people come in looking for accordions or instruments to play banda and corridos, but the shop doesn't carry them. I would call beforehand to see what they carry if you are looking for an instrument in particular. The employees that I encountered, for the most part, were very friendly and knowledgeable about the instruments and other knick-knacks in the store. One was a bit strange and stared at me with no response when I inquired about the online purchase I had made. Overall, a good experience. 4/5. read more

if i could put a lower review i would, i ordered from here a month ago, a pair of used mackie 5 bluetooth speakers, when the item arrived in the box were mackie 3.5 bluetooth speakers, so i contacted support to get the right speakers and they setup a new order which i had to pay for while i waited for the refund to hit my account after 5 days, the associate that helped me gave me next day shipping for free and a discount on the speakers, except for when they came they were the wrong model AGAIN! without bluetooth when i had originally ordered the version with bluetooth, i talked to customer support again to get the correct speakers for the 2nd time, i had to pay a 3rd time to get the speakers i paid for while both the other refunds are still pending, i just now picked up the speakers from the store and finally got the right model, if ur looking for a smooth online ordering experience i suggest shopping elsewhere to save urself all the stress read more

Just an OK Guitar Center. They don't have a Platinum room like the Central Houston store. Which is probably not that big of a deal. Most of us aren't looking to drop $3-5k on a guitar. Pretty limited used gear selection. The staff tends to hover. Overall, I've had better experiences at the two other GC stores inside the loop. They would probably do better if they moved this store to the Woodlands. There's nothing really close by, so you kind of have to make a special trip to come here. Also, it's at the entrance of a low rent industrial space, not ghetto, but not beautiful either. read more

After about a year of my 10 year old son expressing an interest in acoustic guitars, my husband and I brought him in to Guitar Center yesterday to make the purchase. It was a big day for my son, and according to him, one that he will never forget. My husband and I aren't musically inclined and our knowledge regarding same ended with us putting in the "required" effort for our fine arts credits in school. Thankfully, Alex greeted us and expertly listened to our needs, requests, budget, and offered additional guidance to aid us in nurturing our son's budding desire. Alex helped him pick out a black Fender acoustic, a gig bag, a multi-pack of picks in varying sizes, and a laminated one page guide showing chords for reference as he begins learning. We discussed our plans for lessons, and told Alex that we were going to limit the purchase and wait for our son to show his dedication via practicing before we rewarded our son with additional accessories, books, etc.... He offered some suggestions on a few items for our next visit and we will definitely be returning soon. Finally, once the Fender was picked out, Alex took a few moments to show him a few things on his new guitar and told our son to practice what he showed him. My son spent hours last night practicing what he showed him, and I'm endlessly thankful for the effort Alex gave as our son has been waiting for a very long time to bring his guitar home. Having something to start with has meant the world to the kid. Kudos to Guitar Center on having such a knowledgeable, caring, and competent staff! You've earned a lifelong customer! read more

I was very surprised to see a line waiting to into the store. I asked the people in line if it was open they said yes. An employee came out to allow one person in, I tried to ask him a question but he ignored me, running back inside. We all had our masks on, it was completely outrageous that Guitar Center would make people wait outside on a very hot day. I refused to wait in line and left, called the store and left a complaint. My husband drove an hour round trip and bought a piece of used equipment that was said to be in "great" condition. It did not come with a power cable so when he got home and attempted to power it on with the correct cable it did not even power on. After calling guitar center and explaining the issue they said they would give a refund but, and I quote, "do nothing about the inconvenience" of the 2 hours wasted. read more

Stopped in today to get a bunch of drumsticks. Was the only customer in the drum section. Guy working behind the counter was very friendly and didn't act like he just got done playing a gig and had a few beers like most of the other staff act like. Used my Guitar Center gear card. Card wouldn't work so he promptly called and had it reactivated. The guy was an older gentleman. Very friendly and very well spoken. Like I said, not your typical guy that acts like he just got done playing a gig and had four or five beers. Something Guitar Center could use more of. read more

I recently made a purchase online at guitar center.com I bought my first guitar it was a electro-acoustic washburn that was on sale, I went to pick up my item at the store and find out I made the wrong pick, Eric and Brandon were the guys that help me out with advising and guidance trough, they show me what became my first fender electro-acoustic guitar, they match up the price I paid online on what for me was an upgrade, advice me on what strings to use on that kind of guitar and even tune it up, it was a great round experience for me, definitely recomend this store Guitar Center North freeway in Houston, ask for Eric and Brandon or any of their professionals this guys really know their stuff... read more

I had such a great experience buying an electric guitar for my boyfriend at Guitar Center. He plays acoustic and this was his first electric. Eddie helped me out and asked the right questions to narrow down the decision. In the end, I felt really great about my selection for the price. My boyfriend loves his new Fender Telecaster! When we went back later for accessories, we had a similar good experience. Can't remember the name of who helped us then, but again he steered us toward just what we needed for a great price. I came to this store mostly because I didn't want to drive to the Westheimer location. I called ahead of time because I was looking for a Pork Pie drum throne as a gift for Christmas. The guy on the phone said that they had three different kinds, so I went to check them out. When I arrived, I noticed there were only two different Pork Pie drum thrones on the floor. I asked the associate about where the third one was at. He said he had a third one in a box in the back that hasn't been built yet, but asked if I had my heart set on a Pork Pie branded throne. I said yes, so he went to the back to pull out the third throne. He comes out with an unmarked box and opens it up, and pulls out a bunch of hardware that says "Made in Taiwan". I look at the seat itself and it has a different logo on it than the other two drum thrones. I asked if this was a real Pork Pie drum throne and he said yes. It had an Orange County logo on it. The parts were made in Taiwan. This was not a Pork Pie drum throne (they're made in the US), but he thought I couldn't tell the difference. I told him I would think about it and left. If I tell you my heart is set on a certain brand of drum throne, don't you think I would be able to tell the difference between it and another brand? read more

This store gets two stars because they are reasonably close to me and have a reasonable selection of nice products. Their staff on the other hand, stinks. The manager (red headed Scottish gentleman I believe) was too busy to talk to my wife and I when we had a problem but showed up later to play with her yuke. You could tell he was shaken when he learned it was the problem he has dodged earlier. And yes, he dodged it. I was standing right next to him when he told the employee to let someone else handle it. This is after they told us how much they would charge to fix it, then when we drove an hour to get there the service guy said they didn't have the part. When we questioned him as to why they quoted a repair price and then said nothing when we said we were on our way, he replied maybe the other guy thought we had the part already. The part for a brand new instrument we just received. Yes, that is WAY more likely than the authorized repair center, and company we purchased the instrument from, having the part. So from now on I will go to their showrooms to find what I like, then order it from some other place online. That seems to be all they are good for. read more

I went in the store for the first time looking to get my son an amp after walking around the store for 20 minutes I finally have to stand at the register to get someone to help me. I already picked on the used amp but there was no price on it. He went and got the amp and it wasn't in the system so he couldn't sell it to me nor did he have a new one like it. He offered to get my number to call me when they figured out about the used amp. I spent my money somewhere else on a new one. Will never go back. read more

I should have know. Better to purchase my capo at guitar center. I had already had 2 previously bad experiences with this place. Last time it was a 35 minute wait to check out. Before that it was a brigade of unknowledgable baffoons trying to answer a question that should be mandatory knowledge. So this experience started when I walked it. There is several types of capos. I was buying one for a nylon stringed acoustic and the others said steel string. So Lo and behold the first dufus that I approach doesn't even acknowledge me he is so indulged in his cell phone. Keep in mind there are 2 guys holding down the accessory department. So I ask him 'is there any particular reason I should get the nylon string capo or can I use any?' This fucking guy looks at me like I asked him to recite an entire opus! He goes to ask another associate. 'I'm not sure man but we're out of stock', they whimpered carelessly. Last time I checked product knowledge was a valued asset in sales. These fucking jokers started what would be an experience to keep me from ever shopping there again. After that I simply grabbed a capo and went to a line. To my dismay I was sent to a completely different line that had MORE PEOPLE. I saw another small line at the accessory department. I tried that and sure enough they sent me back to a line 4 people deep in electronic audio. I'm aware that store owners and managers probably try to ignore these. But if you are reading this, fuck your stupid store I will never shop there again. I hope guitar center goes down as a whole, and for what I've seen reported, it is. Stick to local shops or buy through sweet water or American musical supply. Guitar center has seen its days. read more
