We did experience what seemed to be some growing pains, and it was difficult for us to maintain the schedule due to other obligations that inevitably popped up, not to mention holiday closures. In the end, we got behind in classes and ultimately withdrew in the hole, no fault of School of Rock who tried to accommodate, but because of our busy lives. Kingwood music school is a two story building with multiple teachers. Sometimes it has an odd smell, like spoiled milk or something. The women in the front desk are friendly and helpful. They provided good information and are responsive to questions. The teacher and student population are diverse in age and race. My biggest drawback was the teacher. As I mentioned I took violin here after taking lessons 8 months elsewhere. Prior to starting at Kingwood music school, I enjoyed learning and the challenge of the violin. However, I decided to leave after feeling more frustration and annoyed with the teacher. She is so meticulous and tedious about everything , we spent months going over the same thing. She could not remember where we left off the previous week and just felt disconnected. She never asked why I wanted to learn, whether I played before or my goals. My goal was for self enjoyment, not the symphony orchestra, so the snap behavior was not necessary. I began to regret going to lessons with her. When I terminated sessions they (front desk or teacher) never asked why. Which tells me either they don't care or it's normal to them. Either way stay clear of interested in violin!!!

These changes were during our first month few months there. We attend once a week for an hour long session. I was very understanding of all the changes made from the school's side. When we did have a make up session, we arrived to discover the class was running 15 min late. I scheduled these lessons around my other children's activities. I had to leave the "make up session" 15 min early in order to pick my son up from his activity because the building he is at closes at 7 pm. He would be in the parking waiting. I am completely understanding of "emergency/ personal things." However my problem arises when my daughter had to leave school early due to strep throat and I called in to let the school know she would not make that evening's lesson.I was notified, It is in their "policy" they do NOT have to excuse you for an "urgent care or doctor's note." The office manager would "make a note." It should be okay, but their policy states they can still charge you." It is $295 per month for 4 sessions. Since beginning there, we had 1 make up session, 1 substitute session and the make up session was running 15 min behind. I was understanding of of the school's changes but when it was our turn to "reschedule" because my 7 year old had fever and strep throat "It is in their policy they can still charge you for the lesson." I said "okay" went on to explain we had fall-break and would be out of town on vacation the following week. They do not care if you tell them a month in advance. The school will charge you for not attending lessons. Their only solution is a "virtual" make up lesson during same week as the scheduled lesson. We would be out of town in an Air bnb, without a piano. I attached the email they sent explaining the policy to clarify before signing up for a monthly draft that you can not take vacation with out being charged, regardless of how long in advance you let the school know. The school can cancel and reschedule on you but they do not have to excuse your absence even with documentation from a medical facility. I did reschedule my daughter's session for the following day, after being on antibiotics for 24 hours to avoided being charged. whether she feels great or not she will not be contagious after a 24 hour period. From my understanding they will charge you $295 with no exceptions unless their staff has a medical, family or personal reason. Again, I understand my teachers reasoning and more than happy to work with her on rescheduling, the problem arises when it is our turn to have an issue and rescheduling/ cancelling isn't an option with a doctors note and discovering that even with more than a week's notice I will still be charged for missing piano during our vacation. The school itself is very money driven with zero customer service. I do not believe the teacher we have would run the same business in this manner. She is a wonderful and talented woman.
