The extra one is for the good employess last year that really seemed to want to help. This review is for improvement, not degradation. I always get greeted at the Colorado Blvd. location and feel like a valued customer with someone always available for those pesky guitar and equipment questions there. Here, I wished they banned that damn front room where everyone seems to congregate at and get people on the floor engaging and making sales without pretension. If this was my business, everyone that walked into that store was a potential buyer adding to the bottom line even if it was a set of guitar picks! Sometimes you want to go to a brick and mortar store, bypassing all the online stuff and want to engage, learn and walk away that day with what you wanted. That is very important! Overall, this Guitar Center location is ok. This is coming from a drummer's perspective so keep that in mind. The drum room has a decent selection of equipment, sets, cymbals and stuff but it does feel a bit disorganized and doesn't have an isolated room for trying out an acoustic set which is unfortunate. I have come in multiple times with cash in my pocket ready to pay full price and have left because of customer service. Also that mullet guy with round glasses is always condescending. Working musicians already have a hard enough time to get it from where they buy gear also. Sorry you're jaded. If this is how they talk to actual professional musicians then I would hate to be a new costumer. I couldn't even get someone to tell me the price of a drum thrown last week after a twenty minute wait just to get help. Not a single thrown had a price on it and I walked in knowing I wanted to spend 250 on a thrown. I just bought one off Amazon. Also... if I come in with used gear... and I play high end gear don't tell me you don't want to see it and can't take any more before seeing what I have... and if you don't take used gear than don't advertise it. Middle-aged guy running the audio department was incredibly rude. Asked if "they make a certain type of speaker cable" and was told "probably". After giving me a blank stare, I asked if they had any in stock, to which I was told they don't carry them but "someone in the world probably makes them". After an uncomfortable exchange, I went to look for a different style of cable in the same section and was told from behind the counter (~15 feet away) "I already told you. We don't have that cable and you're not going to find it, buddy." I usually go to the Colorado Blvd location, but was running other errands near this location. I went into this location to buy a Microphone and said the wrong model number, right manufacturer. He said "I don't have that" and I was like "oh so sorry!" And looked it up on my phone, then said the right model number. He then looks at his other male colleague, scoffs and rolls his eyes. The rest of the interaction went similarly, just short statements--a little dismissive. An observation, please hire more women sales people. I was able to get what I came for, but couldn't wait to leave and felt a little anxious. Going into music stores sometimes has that going to a car dealership as a woman vibe. I was trying to sell my bass and amp. The people didn't even greet me when I walked in or help me carry it in at all. Then when I set everything down the person behind the counter immediately said he don't want the amp because it was too old, he didn't even test it or look at it then look at my bass and played two cords then said nope nothing and turned me away. I want to give Jack in the Repairs Department a shout-out. I was interested in having a pickup installed in my Guild D-55 acoustic guitar, and was considering a somewhat expensive option. Jack took one look at the guitar and suggested a pickup that Guitar Center doesn't even sell. His reasoning was that the pickup I had been considering would likely change to sound of the guitar unamplified. After doing a little online research, I ordered the suggested pickup online (saving over $200), and when it arrived I brought the guitar and pickup to Guitar Center and left it with Jack for installation. The turnaround time was only about 24 hours, he did a fantastic job on the overall setup, and the guitar sounds great. It's individual employees like Jack that make this Guitar Center more than just a "chain store". I will definitely be a regular customer. read more

Absolutely the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I went into trade my acoustic guitar got store credit. It's in excellent shape, well taken care of, and only had for 7 months. Steve, was doing the trade ins. And he looked my guitar over, started playing it, showing off, then tells me that he can only offer 60$ for a 300$ guitar. He told me that the guitar was on "clearance " and is being sold for "in store" 170$ and could only offer 60$ for mine. So I went to go check the price online, for this exact store, and to my surprise it says 209.99$ new. When I brought this up to the current manager "Sabato" he said that "in store" it's 170$ and that my guitar would be "worth much much less" I asked him why do you have a 40$ price difference for buying online, for THE EXACT STORE? And he said that he could refund me 30$ if I was returning my guitar. I told them about the price march garantee, which at this point Steve, runs up and starts yelling at my about how it's 170$ and that the online price doesn't matter. He starts getting super worked up about how I'm calling him a liar (which they are, but I never even said it) And I asked how could buying online for their store could be so much more expensive? And asked to speak to the general manager. Which I intend to do so. I've been shopping here for years. Not anymore. Absolutely ripping people off, DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE. I couldn't believe how rude Steve and Sabato were, especially Steve, telling me how "since this guitar is on clearance, it would never not be on sale." And I could 'try' to sell it myself if I wanted, "but good luck with that, "and told me "I was better off just selling it to him since no one would buy it from me anyways." Went in to get my grandpas old guitar some new strings and to see what other things they could do to make sure it's in a usable state. The employees made sure I felt right at home even with little knowledge of guitars. HUGE shoutout to T.C. for going above and beyond in making sure my grandpas guitar looked and played as good as new. I really felt as though he had a huge passion for what he was doing. This isn't the first time the website showed items in stock that they didn't actually have; a few months back, I went in preparing to buy a $600 guitar I was told wasn't in stock. I had to make yelp specifically for this, Got a new guitar hoping to get informed on what strings would be best for a first time learner and the sales floor associates gave me vague explanations and no useful information. When it was time to check out the guy attending us had a bit of an attitude and just rushed the transaction. Not only was the transaction and experience bad, I told the employee that I'm also left handed and wanted to restring my guitar info a left handed guitar and he told me I'm better off selling both my guitars and buy a left handed one. I've never walked into Guitar Center and felt welcome. Employees seem evasive and are not friendly. I just called and the salesman couldn't wait to get off the phone like "we're both busy right?" It's the only place near Boulder with any kind of selection so I go there once a month. The store doesn't seem crowded so I'm guessing they're overworked with the on-line sales. And careful to avoid questions about straps, picks, cords - or any small talk. The vibe I'm picking up is: "please don't take up my time." Yes there are exceptions. Thinking back on 40+ years of shopping at the bigger guitar stores, this kind of employee attitude doesn't seem rare or unique to Guitar Center. Me and my daughter had came into the store around 4:00 pm today and we are both vaccinated and did not realize that we needed a mask to enter the store. Rather than being polite about it the employees walked up to the door and blocked us from walking in and proceeded to yell at me and my daughter and kicked us out of the store. I had asked if they had any spare masks because we did not have them with us and they get even more upset with us and told us to get out of their store and not to come back. I went into guitar center to help a friend pick out a bass he could use to start learning on. They had maybe 30 basses among the hundreds of guitars and they were all in horrible shape. Strings were inches off the necks, frets popping out the sides... completely neglected. Even the expensive Fenders were in horrible shape. Amp selection was pathetic as well. I am a frequent shopper at guitar center. I have been for years and absolutely love the store. I jsut moved here from Nashville, I have been to probably 50 guitar centers since I travel for work. This is the worst store I have ever visited. The customer service is horrid, I asked for a Shock Mount and was told they were out. Went online and found they had many available so I ordered online. When I waited outside for 20 minutes, I went in to get my stuff, I was treated rudely with no remorse for the wait. Any other guitar center in the Denver area is worth the drive. I took it in to guitar center to get looked at and they never told me it was a bad neck that I got. instead charged me $100 for the setup and did a horrible job. And I have been talking to Eric Eldridge through email and he won't work with me at all on this. told me to go through coverage and talk to Ibanez. Umberto in sound dept insinuated I am a liar. Backstory: About a month ago I bought a podcast mic and a boom. $300. The mute button didn't work. Ok no problem, I had bought the extended warranty because I know mics are fragile. I exchanged the mic and later realized this second one did not have the adapter needed to attach it to the boom. Went in a third time, still knowing this stuff happens. It was a terrible experience. First off, the younger man took my mic out of my sight, presumably to look for a Rode Boom arm to see about an adapter, but he didn't say- just grabbed and ran. Rude #1. All it takes is one drop to ruin a mic so you don't like anyone taking it out of sight. Next he scrabbled around looking for an adapter in a junk box until I asked him to move this along Then he gets his manager involved, Umberto. This man wanted to give me an adapter from a completely different brand of mic and he expected me to just accept his word that it would work. They did not have another Rode boom arm to check it out. Not wanting to make a fourth trip to get things right, I asked to look at it side-by-side with the Blue Yeti adapter, which they had pulled out from another, new, Blue Yeti mic box. I mean if it's all the same, why not let me see for myself, right? Well this was just too much to ask for - Umberto would not allow it. But get this: he actually insinuated that I had lost the adapter and was lying about the replacement not having it. Finally, with a condescending, "if that will make you happy", he gave me the replacement from the Blue Yeti box. What are we up to rude#16 yet? Immediately, both men turned their backs on me while I struggled to put my mic back in its box. Rude behavior all around. Yes, I got what I wanted but I had to demand it and be insulted 6 ways in the meantime. Should have been an easy transaction. I am a mature woman. I no longer allow the guilt card to be used on me, neither the stupid, female who doesn't know about sound equipment, or naive cards. This man used every single one. I can't even take it personally - it's just what this man is about. Stay away from Umberto and the sound area of this store. So disappointed. We dropped off a guitar to have the neck adjusted. They said oh you want a new set up? Um no. Neck adjustment. We were told "we will call you when it's ready "... no time frame. We called a few hours later and they said it would be done first thing the next day. Called the next day and they said in 5 days. Because we needed it sooner we went to pick it up. Now we have a crack in the horn that was not there before. They are not careful with others' equipment. Staff is never helpful. They treat people like they are the only ones who know anything about musical instruments. We will never shop here again.
