I hesitated to write this review since I had already posted one not too long ago. However,…read moresomething compelled me to express my thoughts again - it's the fact that Hanna never fails to amaze me. The word 'impress' doesn't quite capture it. The more fitting term is 'move' - Hanna has a remarkable ability to touch me with her talent, empathy, and teaching style that goes beyond mere intelligence. Her method is not only smart but also instinctive, revealing a talent that seems to be innate to her. There are countless teachers with impressive education and credentials, yet they lack Hanna's natural gift for adapting and tailoring techniques to suit the learning style and temperament of each student. I feel incredibly lucky to have discovered Hanna. My lessons have advanced to a level I never thought possible at my mature age. I studied piano at a young age but stopped in my teens and resumed again later in life, and this, again, is so amazing because Hanna also teaches children! Hanna has introduced me to more challenging pieces because she has a profound and instinctive understanding of my abilities, and motivation, even when I doubted myself. For that, I am deeply thankful. A piano student truly needs a teacher like Hanna, who has the ability to subtly encourage them by introducing the right pieces at the right times, emphasizing confidence, the enjoyment of beautiful music and the steady enhancement of the student's technical skills. I have used tutorials in Youtube by excellent pianists, but Hanna's instructions resonates because it is so personalized to my learning style as I am sure it is with all her students. I am now studying Grieg's Notturno and I am amazed I reached this level. I could not have made such progress without Hanna.

David Goodrich is a wonderful character. He doesn't always make it to the phone in time to pick it…read moreup, but he responds quickly to e-mails so I'd recommend that route for communication. And he is by appointment-only now, so don't just show up and expect to be seen. All that said, I doubt there's a better place anywhere to get your instrument repaired. He is extremely knowledgeable and downright passionate about violins, violas, and cellos. I own one of his violins and I take it in every year for a check-up. He holds it like a baby, taking his time to inspect everything, then hands it back and asks me to play something. Then he makes a face, takes the violin, and adjusts something before asking me to play again. Repeat for up to an hour. It's amazing how the tiniest tweakings make such a massive difference in sound quality! My violin has literally doubled in value since I bought it, and I'm sure it wouldn't have matured quite so magnificently without the yearly adjustments. Plus, it's really fun to get to try all sorts of new things- from strings to chin rests to bridges of varying heights- and then learn about why they change the way your violin plays.

Over 25 years ago, I purchased a "restored" cello in NYC that had serious problems. David discussed…read morethe issues with me and I ended up having him re-set the neck, remove the top to reinforce some cracks, and re-bush the peg box to allow use of higher tension strings. He also advised me to write to the dealer from whom I'd purchased the instrument detailing the problems he'd solved. Based on his diagnosis and reputation, they sent me a check covering most of the repair cost. I still play this cello today, and it has been entirely free of problems. David routinely works on instruments worth 10-20x what mine cost; I would trust him with anything!

We have been going to Parlando for piano lessons for four years. Without a doubt, the faculty is…read morethe best in Boulder and the administration is supportive and great to work with. I have been able to experience Parlando as an adult student and as a parent of two children students. The lessons are well balanced and keep everyone engaged. There are games, theory, composition but also rigor. I wish every learning opportunity they had was so well balanced! There are opportunities for recitals, competitions and achievement day. As a student myself, I learned the importance of l playing music in front of others as a part of my education. While it was out of my comfort zone, I developed musically because of it. I appreciate the opportunities for my children that Parlando provides them as musical students.

We are huge Parlando fans! Both my daughters have taken lessons at Parlando for several years and…read moreabsolutely love their teachers and have had a terrific experience at the school. Here is a few things awesome things about Parlando. - The teachers, we've had an incredible teachers at Parlando. They've been positive, progressive and really interested in making the learning experience great (more about them below). - Registration is easy, efficient and online. Parents can even select convenient recital times for their children online. - Last year, Parlando decided to offer a free group lesson to all private piano students. So students, every month meet different students, perform and get feedback from a different teacher. As importantly, the students and the teachers exchange ideas and build community. Great for inspiration! - Parlando has a really nice way of offering children at least two public performance opportunities a year. These recitals are optional but encouraged. The philosophy there is low key very supportive performances that get kids use to being comfortable playing in front of others. - On a broader level, Parlando provides a lot of scholarship, does outreach to schools, provides outreach and music experiences for disabled people and is a really positive force around the community. - The pianos are in tune, practice rooms are basic but have everything you need, parking at the Dairy is free and we've never had trouble finding a spot. - The cost is comparable to other instructors, and early bird registration provides a further discount. - The monthly newsletter is great and provides info about musical opportunities around Boulder County. - Finally Travis LaBerge, the founder, director and a teacher extraordinaire is super nice, reasonable, professional, public spirited and just a class act in every way. His upbeat presence permeates the organization. Teachers. Elizabeth Leger has taught my daughters piano for two years. She's just awesome! Very friendly, very intuitive about . She mixes pop and classic, teaches improv, has a positive reward program, makes sure children have a solid backing in music theory. She's very familiar with several different pedagogical approaches coming from Canada, Japan, the US. She herself is an incredibly accomplished pianist. Last year, when she was receiving her masters in piano performance from CU, she invited all her students and performed excerpts and then explained and showed her students different parts of the piece. Super patient and positive with every level from beginner to experienced. Devon Park - horn instructor - Besides being a very accomplished musician i.e. performs with the Opera Colorado, Boulder Phil, Greeley Phil as well as various other performing groups around Colorado, Devon is an incredible teacher. He's incredibly knowledgeable and patient. He really builds on student's interests while at the same time gently filling in gaps and exposing them to new ideas. He's got a great sense of humor and people feel comfortable around him. Whether it is fixing a student's horn, lending them multiple CDs to compare different performances, providing historical context for a piece, describing the evolution of the horn, Devon is an absolute treasure of a master teacher!!
