These guys are great. They are extremely knowledgeable. They did a set up on a guitar I bought brand new in 1971. It had never been set up correctly. The strings sat so high it was almost unplayable. They had to double shim the neck and now the guitar is so easy to play. Out of my collection the guitar is now one is my favorites to play and practice on. I feel like a went to a different store based on the reviews. Walked in with my daughter and got an unfriendly stare, I say hi and wave. Dude just stares. We tried to politely engage, just got awkward unfriendliness in return. Everything we looked at was overpriced. We left and took our money with us. How do businesses like this stay in business? Responding to David W., your assistant was fine, he asked if we needed help and was nice. You sat there like a dick and gave dirty looks the entire time. Brought in an old guitar to see if it was worth fixing. They quoted me $40 for the repair and another $10 for new strings. I was initially really happy to find an old-fashioned guitar store with knowledgeable staff. I was really disappointed when I came to pick up the guitar and they insisted on $80 for the repair plus $12 for strings. They did not reach out to me to ask if I wanted to proceed now that the repair had doubled and was a significant fraction of the guitar's total value. I explained multiple times that this was more than twice what they had quoted. The salesperson at pick up was polite but had no interest in keeping me happy with the visit and only explained that the repair was harder than they thought it would be. Extremely disappointed in what I thought was going to be a great experience. read more

Once COVID hit I was inspired to pick up my old hobbies, having traveled for 5 years straight. I have about 6 guitars that were neglected, so I sought out a good "all in one" semi local shop that could service and meet all my guitar needs. Thus far, I would say Dave does it all. He's more knowledgeable about guitars than anyone I know and his technician associate Julian is a master in his craft and will take care of all of your needs as it relates to repair, maintenance and aesthetics regarding your precious babies. Today I brought them 3 acoustics with varying needs and a desire to purchase a starter set for my teenage son. Dave hooked me up with an epic and affordable package while Julian assessed and repaired the acoustics all in one visit. My new guitar needed the neck or action adjusted and I called around and Guitar Hut in Lafayette wanted $100 for a setup and they would do things my guitar didn't need (polishing the frets and putting on new strings that you pay extra for).  I asked them if I don't want new strings, does that lower the price and they said no.    Now for the GREAT news! I had visited Monkton before and really liked how knowledgeable and friendly Dave Williams and his staff were.  They played different guitars for me to hear how they sound and they gave me a wealth of info.  Well, I called Monkton today and they said a setup was $45.  When I got there they said all it needed was a neck adjustment and they charged $20.  Dave's luthier and other staff were extremely competent and taught me a lot about guitars.   If you want a business like they used to make them, not so much about the money, but about loving instruments, people and music, and outstanding customer service with more than fair prices, it's worth the drive out to see them in Broomfield on 1st street.  Please tell them Valerie Stuart sent you! read more

This shop has a smaller selection but it is clear a lot of thought went into what gear they would carry. I ended up getting a 1940 Kamico but it was a tough choice. The best part of the shop was the friendly staff, they didn't push me to buy anything and encouraged me to play any guitar I wanted. read more
