I brought my electric guitar (Les Paul) in for work due to ongoing issues with easily going out of tune and fret buzz on the high E. I've had this guitar worked on a handful of times in the ~15 years I've owned it without any significant improvement. I picked the guitar up today and holy crap it's like a completely new instrument. The fret/neck work is perfect, the action is improved and it is holding tune despite full step bends and heavy attack. This is something I just imagined would never happen. I have been renting a bass from James for several months now. To be perfectly honest, I don't play the bass enough with groups or by myself to necessarily justify renting one. However, James has been amazing to work with. It is primarily because James is such a nice guy with fantastic customer service and wonderful quality instruments that I've found myself renting one from him. He's been more than willing to give advice or information whenever needed and just genuinely seems like a stand up guy. I've ascertained both from him and from other reviewers on Yelp that he helps schools and teachers out at pretty much any price range - which I think probably speaks to a passion for instruments and getting music into people's hands. These guys are so wonderful to work with! James was very helpful when my daughter needed a viola for school. They ran out of music books and Scott met me in Boulder to give me the book so I wouldn't have to drive the extra distance. Fabulous service! After only two months, someone in my family (husband) drove over the viola and stand accidentally. Luckily, I had purchased the insurance (James told me too just in case something like this happened, literally said in case you drive over the viola). I am Grandpa from MO, currently still own my own business in MO for over 39 years. My wife and I are watching our two granddaughters here in Louisville while their parents enjoy a week off. My nine year old granddaughters violin was accidentally dropped at school, a long crack later developed on the back of the violin, she was quite worried about this. She showed me the label on her music book, where the violin was rented from, "Sol Vista Violins", so I called them. They recognized my cell was from out of state, texted me the address with a picture of the store. We drove to the store, they did some adjustments and switched out the violin while we waited, no charge, no paperwork required. The best of all, they treated us as if we we were buying a new Lexus, and were especially nice to my granddaughter, who was so worried about the broken violin. These guys are awesome! read more

James at sol vista violins has worked on my instruments for a number of yrs.I don't trust anyone else except him working on my stuff.I gave my strat to work on which was a nightmare when it got to him and it turned out outstanding.I doubt any other luthier can do a job as good as this. He's also straighten necks i have that were absolutely unplayable.Bring your stuff here you won't be sorry. read more
