Wouldn't have been any big deal except the interaction on the phone asking the tech about it felt defensive, like he felt I was accusing him, which I wasn't. Then I got to the store and asked the guy at checkout and got the same feeling. Like my statement about not getting a text was an unreasonable point. Anyway, an awkward interaction, BUT I got it, and all is good. I think it's best when dealing with customers to just try hard to assume best intentions. I somehow ended up feeling defensive by just commenting that I didn't get a text. Like "why didn't I get a text?" That's innocent, right? I think so. In their position I would have said "I'm really sorry about that. We sent a text, and it didn't go through. I hope it wasn't too much inconvenience." Boom, done. Anyway, this all seems so silly as I'm saying it, but it's honestly annoying to feel like I'm a problem when I don't think I did anything wrong. There are a lot of options out there, and customer service is quite important to me. In fact, I'd spend more for it. It's a niggle, but its important to me to feel welcomed.

I have learned, in my travels of becoming a musician - and I'm on a never-ending road - that confidence is of the utmost importance. I might argue the single most. From the girl who would have been to embarrassed to sing anything more than quietly at the campfire, today I have no qualms about being the soloist. Ariella is a part of that growth. Ariella is a fabulous cheerleader, a free spirit, a beautiful soul, who helped coach me to confidence.

My work with Ariella was a process of coming into my body and voice while being gently held and guided. It catalyzed a year-long process of coming more authentically into myself than ever before, and it all started through the seemingly small practices of vocal warm ups, call and response, or just making noises with my mouth.  Ariella talks about one of her roles as a coach and guide being to offer unconditional love, and I agree. To listen closely enough to one's body to hear the sounds or movements that want to be expressed and to say YES to them--in spite of whatever fear or shame or other barrier exists there--is an act of unconditional love of the self. To be witnessed and held in that process equally will forever change you. Ariella's approach is gentle and intuitive, yet powerful. I loved that she let the wild nature of the body and voice lead the way.  People love tangible outcomes, so here's what changed for me concretely: I joined a choir and sang in a public performance (this was right before the pandemic or else I'd still be singing in choirs), I feel soooo much more comfortable singing publicly, I began creating weekly videos for my coaching business that I posted publicly and actually enjoyed making them, and I began writing and performing stand up comedy publicly.

    Pianos for Humanity

Absolutely DO NOT hire "Pianos for Humanity" or anyone associated with "Jay" for any piano-related…read moreservices. This was, without a doubt, the worst experience I've ever had with any service provider, and it resulted in significant damage to both my home and a beautiful vintage instrument. I acquired a 64-year-old Yamaha piano from FB and foolishly contacted Pianos for Humanity for moving, cleaning, and tuning, based on a $600 quote. What I got was a complete and utter disaster. "Professional" is the last word I would use to describe this operation. It was essentially one mover plus Jay, who is not a mover, with a truck, and zero expertise. The first red flag should have been when they asked me to help move the piano. Then, Jay had the audacity to ask me to call my friends to find another person to assist! This was during a workday, so obviously, I couldn't find anyone. Despite sending photos of my narrow staircase in advance, upon arrival, Jay put on an act and suggested I just give him the Yamaha and take one of his smaller spinets instead! This should have been my cue to cancel everything, but I unfortunately I didn't. The "move" itself was a horrifying display of incompetence. I nearly got crushed between the piano and the wall due to their complete lack of technique. The result? A hole punched in my wall, gouges all over my stairwell walls, and the once pristine Yamaha now bears numerous scratches and chips. They also scratched my hardwood floors from dragging the metal piano wheels, stained my white baseboards beige after dropping a wood stain bottle, and then, to add insult to injury, slicked up my floor with WD-40 leaking from his bag! And for this carnage, they still had the nerve to charge me the full $600! "Jay" calls himself "the piano man," but he demonstrated zero respect for this beautiful piece of history. He is hostile, unprofessional, and utterly clueless about proper piano handling. Please, please, PLEASE avoid "Pianos for Humanity" and "Jay" at all costs. Even if you're considering buying a piano from him, I implore you to hire a reputable, professional moving company. I doubt he would show any regards for the instruments once a sale is made. This experience was a nightmare from start to finish, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
