A five star it is. The owner is a very pleasant gentleman and invited me to play any instrument in the store I wanted to. He had several resonator guitars in the shop and after strumming a few I took down a metal bodied Recording King biscuit cone for a test drive. I thought it sounded pretty good but I wasn't sure about the price? I never impulse buy a musical instrument without researching it and the price. Although his price is slightly higher than an internet price it isn't unreasonable for a store price and seems very fair. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your point of view) I have a couple guitars I use for slide now and this wasn't "the One" that I'm searching for but I'd recommend it and the shop to anybody I know looking for a nice resonator. After I was done hearing what this res had to offer ( and the owner complimented me on my playing) we chatted about guitars for a bit. A lady came in with a couple guitars to have them checked and re-strung and he was very professional and courteous to the woman that obviously was a novice. He made good recommendations for her and didn't attempt to upsell her with expensive strings or other items she didn't need. As I left the store he asked me to please come back anytime and I will anytime I'm up this way because you never know where and when "the One" will appear and also because I enjoy supporting small businesses whenever I can.

I…read more_had_ to take lessons growing up and quit after 2 years, but the teachers at Castle Rockmusic are inspiring and encouraging - I love that my daughter practices on her own. I took a couple of lessons there as well to get a few chops on boogie boogie piano, and Andy was great! I never felt pressured to sign up for huge packages and Andy helped me find resources to further my boogie boogie passion! I can't believe that little ole' Castle Rock has such an outstanding place for great music lessons and quality and affordable instruments! I've been a customer for more than 7 years and love that they've only grown!!! Jason (the owner) has been nothing but helpful in both my and my daughter's progression in developing a love for music. He's straight forward and won't give you the run around for anything. I'm not a fan of wishy washy or pandering, and Jason is straight-up - I always know where I stand with him, and have always felt well treated :) I wish I could give a constructive criticism, but my experience over the years with Jason and Castle Rockmusic have been great - so keep it up! :)

This shows me that they respect their customers and I will definitely be coming back in the future.

When I was setting up the guitar stands on Sunday the 6th I found out one of them was defective. On Monday the 7th of September I attempted to return one stand for a replacement but found out they were closed-it was Labor day. On the 8th of Sept I left town for 10 days, and returned on the 18th. On the 19th I went to Woodsongs in an attempt to have the defective guitar stand replaced. The nice young man behind the counter said he'd have to talk to the manager. The manager appeared and told me they had a strict 7 day return policy. I told him I tried to return the stand on Monday the 7th of September but they were closed, and that I'd been out of town since then. He told me that they are never closed and that I should have returned it before I left town. He didn't replace the stand which is not an expensive item, and treated me as though I was making an unreasonable request to have the stand replaced. He even told me that I broke it and it was my fault. As a retail outlet, the customer service is very poor and there is a air of arrogance about the shop. I'll never go back there again. I'll go to Louisville. I've been around music my whole life and usually musicians are good to other musicians. I don't get the impression this shop is run by players. Just a retail shop.

Thankfully, Kellye was willing to ship the guitar to me in Nebraska, and along the way kindly provided me with all of the detailed information and photos that I asked for, via e-mail and telephone conversations. The neck reset, refret and setup work she did on the instrument before making it available is top notch, and it truly plays like a dream. She packaged it with the care and protection of a professional and it arrived to me safe and sound. I can't praise her enough for her patience, transparency and honesty throughout the transaction. She clearly has a passion for lutherie, and she's damn good at it!
