This establishment is an Irish pub in name only. They do have Smithwick's, Harp and Guinness on tap (along with Bud Light), but the food and the service were both disappointing. They had several "traditional Irish food" items listed on the menu. The reuben sandwich sounded really great judging from the description, so I ordered one. To my surprise, the server walked over to the lighted cooler at the entrance of the place where they have all of the "grab and go" pre-wrapped sandwiches and salads, she grabbed a pre-made, pre-wrapped reuben sandwich off one of the shelves, she peeled the cellophane off of it, stuck it in a sandwich press for a few minutes and served it to me on a flimsy black plastic disposable plate with a small container of cole slaw and packets of mustard and thousand island dressing. The sandwich was disappointing to say the least, and definitely nothing as tasty as the description on the menu made it out to be. One can belly up to the bar, there's some counter seating at the windows overlooking the tarmac and several tables for 2, but no table service or waitress, so if you do want food or drinks, you must order them at the bar, then if you wish to use the seating, you must schlep your food/drinks and your bags to your table. From the outside this place looks really inviting and a bit unique when one is used to seeing the same Mickey D's, BK and Sbarro in every airport. tl/dr; this is one of the worst airport bars I have been to outside of Liberia The tables were not clean. The bar stools were wobbly - I tried four different ones and none of them were stable. The bartender was rude. I had to point out in the crowd whom I was drinking with since I had the audacity as a person in their late 20s/early 30s to order two drinks at a time. That's never happened to me in sixteen+ years of ordering drinks at both reputable and disreputable watering holes around the world. I would like to know what even the policy behind this is - do two watered-down airport beers at $9 a pop really get people so out of control it becomes a problem? Was it something else like I had a stupid haircut or hadn't shaved because of sitting shiva? Or was the bartender just a miserable beer wench unhappy with the choices she had made in life? I think that one. Outstanding customer service there, guy. If you're in terminal C go somewhere else for a beer. This is not a bad airport "pub." While there are not many food options, they have a few specialty cocktails, a full bar, and a couple of beers on draft. Service was good and the bartender was attentive during my visit. I'd come back for the spicy Bloody Mary only. He did really well with that! I wish they offered more food. It was really hot in this pub when I was here. Not sure who controls the temperature but I shouldn't be sweating when I'm sitting drinking a beer inside. Several other folks also mentioned it. Beer is very expensive here - $9 each. Pretty shoddy selection as well as they only have five taps. I didn't dare try the food as it appears to all be prepackaged, but they do have bags of chips that you can purchase as well. Even though this place is NOT an authentic irish pub, I was impressed because the bartenders actually knew how to properly pour a Guinness. (if you drink Guinness a lot you know what I'm talking about) I gave them props for that because most bars I've gone to don't ever do that. I thought the food was a little disappointing. Everything is pre made so you can't make any substitutions. The presentation is horrible. I ordered the corned beef & Swiss sandwich and it came on a small plate with a mustard and thousand island packet. The cole slaw came in a small plastic container and tasted like KFC cole slaw. Not to say that I have anything against KFC, because I have no problem with the colonel! Just expected a higher class taste from this place. Stopped in for a drink during my delay on December 26th, 2011 - and quickly found a seat at the bar. Bartender, who was an african american gentleman in his 30's was working hard but just couldn't handle the crowds. After sitting down at the bar - I waited patiently and at some point had to yell over to the bartender to get his attention after 12 minutes so I could place an order. A minute or two later, a Guiness Draft appeared for the price of $9.10. Most people walk up and order from a line at the bar - however, the bar patrons need to wait to the bartender comes over to them. Overall, I wish they had two bartenders at this bar. read more

O'Hare has Berghoff Cafe which serves awesome local beer and it only costs a hair over 6$. So much for these airport locations claiming to charge 'normal area prices'. Very confusing lack of table service - but feel free to grab some chair and not order anything. The Smithwicks was fresh and tasty. The service inattentive and obnoxious. And the chicken wings - those were the second worst I've ever had - fatty and soggy with stretchy skin - vomit. It's enough to make you wish they has soy wings! If you have the budget, try Vino or the Caliente Cab Company instead. read more

I happen to spend a lot of time in airports, and thus, in airport bars. This trip I spent two long layovers in the Newark International Airport during the space of a week. I was thirsty for Guinness, so was drawn to the Guinness Pub. Bad mistake. When I first walked in, they had many small bar tables that were mostly all full. It wasn't until I got all settled in to one myself, that I realized that they don't offer table service (all tables had menus on them, which originally led me to believe that table service was an option). I then gathered all my belongings and found a seat up at the bar. The bar was cluttered with old napkins, receipts, soggy coasters and other misc junk. The bartender stopped by promptly, but alas, I was a bit distracted by her "grill" when she spoke to me to be able to order right away. The second time through I knew what I wanted. I was after a Guinness and some light lunch items. Their soups were Seafood Bisque and "kind of a chicken, um, soup" is what she told me. She recommended the Bisque and since it appeared to be provided by Au Bon Pan, I figured, how bad could this be? Well, it was bad. Let's just say that this Seafood Bisque was a sweetened, doctored up Nacho Cheese sauce. It was vile! I had a bite, then asked for black pepper, which she scooped up from some other poor soul's leftover order in little packets and tossed over at me. Meanwhile, I watched her pour drinks, and serve most of the customers without so much as a word or eye contact. When someone with a very strong Irish accent asked for a drop of Black Currant liqueur for her Guinness, the lovely barkeep stopped dead in her tracks and asked "What?" then turned and rolled her eyes at me and said, "we don't have that". I sat there as long as it took me to finish my Guinness and during that time not a single napkin, coaster or bit of trash was picked up from the bar. Ugh. If you find yourself there, do order the chicken wings, which my neighbor at the bar ordered. He got the last order, as the next person in ordered them and was told that they were out of all the chicken - wings and tenders. This at 2:30 pm. The only saving grace was that the Guinness was decent. At least they got THAT right. read more

Draft beers are $9. NOTHING on their food menu is Irish. Their menu is quite proud of their "Traditional Irish Reuben Sandwich!" When I walked in and sat at a table, the woman behind the counter just ignored me. No "can I get you anything," no "you need to order at the bar," just straight up ignored me (and there were only about 8 people in the place). After about 15 minutes of being ignored while she didn't do anything, I walked out. read more

Yeah, that was a mistake. Having just come back from Ireland, I was in the mood for more of the same sort of food I had over there. This sticky-tabled dump should be sued by the St. James Brewery for using their name. The Guinness was overpriced ($9/pint!) and improperly poured. The food, despite the menu implying that it was freshly made, was clearly nothing of the sort and came with a packet of "thousand island" dressing and a little plastic cup of presumably canned cole slaw. Two pints and this mediocre sandwich brought my total to nearly $30. Shame on this eatery! read more

I didnt even want to give them 1 star! Terrible service! I visited on Feb 2nd 2013 at about 1pm. I sat at a table for ten minutes and was not greeted or helped. I watched the bartender serve 2 people that walked in after me. I decided to get up and leave. While leaving I sarcasticly thanked the bartender for service. She then yelled at me, 'we dont serve tableside'. Well thatnks for expecting me to be a mind reader lady! She could have greeted us and suggested to take our order at the bar. If there was a way to perform fusion between a turd and garbage you would create The Guinness Pub. To sum this place up in one word would be disappointment. Had I read the other reviews before stopping in for a drink and a bite, I would have passed on by. The Guinness was good and that is where it ends. I sat down and no one came to take my order, not really a big deal but it set the mood. I ended up ordering a Guinness, Corned Beef Sandwich and the Tomato Mozzarella Salad. The tomatoes were dried out and wilted, they just looked gross and it came in a tiny plastic container like you would get at a gas station. The salad didn't really taste like anything and I just powered it down. The corned beef was tiny and dry. I used the little ketchup packet of 1000 Island and mustard which would have been fine if once again I was eating at a gas station. Just a lame place that is lucky they are in an airport because there will be other suckers like me and those below that will eat their once. I can't imagine anyone goes for a second time. I would highly recommend avoiding this place. I ordered a Guinness immediately upon arrival only to watch the bartender wander around with the glass while he joked around with the other two staff members for five minutes. To top it off, he poured the eight dollar and fify cent Guinness incorrectly. They should be ashamed to call this unkept dump (the bar was exceptionally filthy) a Guinness pub. They delivered a very decent pint of guinness. Captain Morgan and diet coke was equally refreshing. Very limited power outlets and can get crowded easy with limited seating. Worth a stop if you have time before your flight. Our bartender Francis was conversational and polite, something other airport bars are lacking. read more
