Terrible experience. I would never patronize this establishment again. I wanted a small pour and was overcharged.

(Drank 07/14/23 FR @ 5:00pm): Yup... this definitely was a brewing company in New Jersey!…read more On this recent trip, I was on a mission to explore the small beer scene in/around Jersey City and ended up at New Jersey Brewing Co. as my second brewery. This time, my friend and I found ourselves in the township of North Bergen which neither of us had been to before. With a tap list heavily-focused on IPAs, it was difficult for my friend to find something she could drink, and IPAs weren't one of my top three choices. Would there be a drinkable brew for us in this part of New Jersey!? PURCHASE Mango On My Mind IPA Beer 7.0% ABV 16floz Draft ($7.00): Bright mango orange color, slight hoppy mango aroma, low body, slight hoppy mango tropical flavor, mouthfeel finish, and slight hoppy mango tropical aftertaste - mango! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=_IcJ-ZTkhPrxlFYZ99d6dQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Blood Orange American LBIPA Beer 6.6% ABV 16floz Draft ($6.00 x3): Hazy orange color, slight hoppy orange aroma, low body, slight hoppy orange sweet flavor, drying finish, and slight hoppy orange aftertaste - Vitamin-C! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=k5tVoWFXZTLIXnZR2QnBrQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Algorithmic Design NEDIPA Beer 7.8% ABV 16floz Draft ($7.00): Hazy orange color, citrusy hoppy aroma, low body, citrusy hoppy piney flavor, drying finish, and citrusy hoppy aftertaste - in the weeds! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=9z73WMXT-bfnwzAq304pkQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Freedom! DIPA Beer 8.2% ABV 10floz Draft ($7.00): Dark amber color, hoppy piney aroma, medium body, hoppy piney flavor, drying finish, and bitter hoppy aftertaste - left me parched. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=LkoLxaNxlaE3p1pmiTKjzg&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Watermelon Sour Fruited Beer 8.0% ABV 10floz Draft ($7.00): Bright orange color, tart tropical watermelon aroma, low body, candy fruity tart tropical flavor, tart finish, and candy tart watermelon aftertaste - yes! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=cwkMVc4jrgRo4JvIOA-U5Q&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw The Hangover Pretzel Co. Ched'a Ranch Pretzel Pieces 11.2oz Bag ($8.00): Because all we had in our bellies was froyo, we needed something to help absorb the beer. The flavor had more ranch than cheddar, but each piece was a bit large and harder than expected. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=tPaeRPdG6qUX3eXerLW7YA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw SERVICE We were immediately greeted by two friendly young men behind the bar who were ready to give us the lowdown about their beers! After we secured seating, they were kind and patient enough to offer free samples to my friend who wasn't an IPA drinker. Afterwards, I continuously approached the bar to place an order during our stay. There wasn't any table service, so on each trip I returned our empties. Everything was no-frills straightforward which was fine with us - all was good! PARKING (FREE; N/A this instance) We took the light rail to Tonnelle Ave. Station and walked about 10 minutes along a busy street into a somewhat industrial area. They didn't have an onsite lot. Otherwise, there appeared to be plenty of spots along the main drag of 43rd St., the major thoroughfare of Tonnelle Ave., and nearby surrounding side streets - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A no-frills somewhat cavernous industrial warehouse where you walked through a door within a drop-down metal garage door, you were immediately staring at the brewing tanks. The bar area was off to the right with several high barrel tables, a handful of stools at the bar, and a chalkboard menu https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=nJg33bmX7AUR7f4gzEhgTQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw up on the wall. There was an uncomfortable hot dankness in the air. Natural lighting only entered once the garage door was opened while soul-sucking fluorescent electric ceiling lights filled in the rest. There were muted TVs while rock music played in the background. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=rblApp3OACOCC_PN48XKnQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL I was happy to try New Jersey Brewing Co., and I would consider another visit at least to try the rest of their beers. However, their tap list was limited both in quantity and variety. They were very heavy on the IPAs which wasn't my favorite. Unfortunately, there wasn't any onsite food (some snacks) or trucks (BYOF style). And, they appeared to be family and pet-friendly. They had comparable prices and adequate service. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $54.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS

One of the owners,…read moreDeepak, was on site when I came through and introduced himself, along with new items I would've never paid attention to, at their in store bar. He also gave me a brief area and business history lesson, due to new business being the main reason why I was in the area. I was referred to the store by a new business associate and couldn't wait. I'm glad I didn't. The owner then introduced me to another staff member, Nicole, who was just as knowledgeable and made a great recommendation for my husband. They have a good selection of craft beers and bitters so I picked up plum, as I already had grapefruit and some of the other. I will be back to get their Black Walnut. I also picked up Barr Hill for the Hubs, which the owner allowed me to taste prior to purchasing and it's beyond delicious! It sings in my mouth. We're usually Hendricks folks but we may have to share our taste buds. The store's beautiful. Dark wood, sleek and contemporary with hints of industrial accents. It's NOT pretentious but classy and sexy. It's laid out super easy & friendly, even if you're a novice. They also have a humidor room. Pretty much a one stop shopping experience to set up a perfect evening of entertainment. I do love the variety in spirits but their wine selection's still needs to bud for my formative palate but it's the entire experience that I love and will support. Successful day all around. New business colleague and new WBF (wine best friend) in Bottle Co., Deepak and Nicole. Will be returning soon!

Al and Andy are very helpful, and are constantly trying to improve their stock with interesting, unique, and excellent items. The craft beer selection has remained stellar. Breweries from the local area as well as from the rest of the country are well-represented and always updated. These guys know their bourbons and scotch. This stock is constantly updated, and their stock often includes things I can't find elsewhere. Their cigar selection is quite good for a liquor store, and the cigars are perfectly humidified. Never received a dry or cracked stick from them. Finally, it is clear that they are attempting to make this more of a boutique experience with the layout and stock. Overall, highly-recommended!

It was the absolute perfect way to close out my first visit to the East Coast. The original plan was going to be dinner somewhere else, but time had pushed us past our reservation. We decided on The Highwood since it was open late and let's face it, who would refuse the view of the NYC skyline? It was a wonderful evening to dine out on the patio and the service was excellent. We ordered our food and drinks and has great conversation. We did not have any complaints about any of the food or drink items. The chicken sandwich that I ordered was very filling. The french fries had a nice crisp to them on the outside and I especially liked the garnish on top. Dressed up fries are sexy fries! We were there for a good while, but the staff was very friendly and didn't try to kick us out or anything. We were one of the last ones to leave, but they were all so nice. I would definitely come back here again. You should check it out if you haven't already. I highly recommend sitting outside as you will marvel at the view across the street! Prices aren't bad and they ha e a broad selection of dishes to choose from. EnJOY your visit!

But three friends, craving yummy eats, strong drinks, and fun vibes, refused to call it a night. Luckily, The Highwood was still open until midnight-just what we needed to kick off our late night yap~ This is an elevated sports bar with waterfront views of Midtown Manhattan, directly across the street from the Port Imperial Ferry Terminal. Metered street parking is limited in the area, but there's a garage attached to the building. Even though it's a few steps above your typical divey sports bar, the overall atmosphere is still pretty casual. There's plenty of seating, whether you want to sit at the main bar, in leather booths, at high tops, or outside on the patio. With over 30 TVs, this is a hot spot to catch a game, from football and UFC fights to the World Cup. You definitely don't have to come dressed to impress, but there's a dress code. It's nothing too serious, more like "stylish sportswear or casual sophistication". Interpret that as you will lol. The restaurant wasn't busy, so we were able to sit wherever we wanted. We chose the outdoor patio, where we had a view of that iconic NYC skyline that we never get tired of having in our backyard. The menu mixes classic pub grub with more upscale dishes-pizza, wings, burgers, sushi, steak, seafood, and more. We started off with some drinky drinks and, of course, took full advantage of the $8 Martini Monday deal... DUH ;) We got lychee & espresso martinis, which were *chef's kiss* I loved the balance of vodka and lychee in mine--sweet and strong! They brew their espresso in-house, so no pre-made mix nonsense here. For our main dishes, we ordered: *Highwood Burger $24 (smashed double patty, aged cheddar cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, dill pickles, and burger sauce on a brioche bun) with side of sweet potato fries *Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich $23 (Southern fried chicken thigh, pecanwood smoked bacon, maple chipotle sauce, lettuce, and dill pickles on a sesame brioche bun) with side of fries *Bluefin Tuna Tartare $22 (diced bluefin tuna, scallions, avocado, mango, sesame seeds, furikake, yuzu ponzu, and rice-nori chips) No major complaints-everything was generally on point. My friends enjoyed the fried chicken sandwich and tuna; both were tasty and good quality. I just wish my burger patties were juicier! Service was friendly and quick. Since it was a quiet night, I appreciated that the staff didn't rush us out even though we closed the place down LOL. Shoutout to the management and staff for working and staying open late on a holiday! Final thoughts... Honestly, there are other bars in the area with better food, but The Highwood is still a solid option. The food didn't blow me away, but it's a great choice if you want a mix of bar grub and elevated dishes. There are still plenty of reasons to come back-game days, weekend brunch, late-night DJs, and drinks with a view. Why not all of the above? Highwood... you passed the vibe check! This was the perfect way to cap off the holiday weekend with friends! Now I'm curious to see what this place is like when the crowd and energy are turned ALLLLLLLL the way up!
