This was my second time in Barcelona and I was as looking for a place with tapas and paella. Guell had good reviews so we decided to try it. We ordered a pitcher of sangria, olives and assorted cheeses. We also both ordered seafood paella. The sangria was good with lots of fresh fruits. The olives were very tasty. The cheese plate was a bit disappointing. There were two crackers and 4 different cheeses to try with a jam. They were all good but we could have used a few more crackers. The paella was only ok and a bit overcooked. The staff overall were friendly but our server was almost rude and made a feel like we were wasting his time. I know we messed up by not trying their paella because it seems to be one of the things they're known for however when it's ridiculously hot outside...you just want some refreshing items rather than a heavy meal. Overall, the place is a cute area, with plenty seating. They're also very nice. They do have a full bar, but don't have a skilled bartender so don't ask for anything complicated. Super delicious and very fresh! I had an early Sangria with Cava that was very very potent. We started off with a rocket salad, topped with the most delicious parmesan, and freshest sweet baby tomatoes. next I had the toast with the grilled vegetables and anchovies, and the toast was cooked to perfection. The onion, eggplant and bell peppers were so delicious and the anchovies were the perfect salty accent. The pasta for the spaghetti Bolognese was cooked perfectly also. Cozy and busy atmosphere with exposed stone walls. Welcoming and helpful staff. We enjoyed some house sangria and probably too many tapas for two people... The gazpacho was cold, crisp, and fresh. The Iberian ham was cut thicker than most places we visited but still enjoyable. The pan con tamate was on a thinner type of bread than I've experienced in other tapas and was not as flavorful as others. My wife loved the anchovies and vegetables but felt the bread was too dense and too much with the delicate ingredients. Seafood soup Very good! Rice with flavor and lots of seafood in it. The seafood was cooked perfectly. Negra pallea ( black rice) They had like 6 different pallea options which I thought was awesome. Most places I've been to only show 2. We haven't had the black one yet so we got this one. This was great. I think one of my favorite pallea that I ate so far on the trip. Ferraro cake Came with Ferraro gelato, cake and a little side of the Ferraro whip. Went there without a reservation and even though the gruff bartender who doubles up as their welcome person kicked out a table of 4 who came unreserved, our table of 3 was seated promptly, though right near the bar and facilities. Service was attentive and we ordered the house wine (red and white) since they didn't serve the others in glasses, which was watery and not great. We ordered 3 tapas - Spanish omelette (good), peppers (good), and the salmon dish which was the best. We ordered the veg paella and the seafood paella and both were delicious. It's a good idea to get off the main tourist drag of La Rambla and this spot fits there. Look at the number of reviews and see how they drop dramatically for spots a block or two from the tourista turnpike. They seem to do a brisk paella business, but I went for the sautéed mushrooms and a salad, which was actually cooked vegetables with goat cheese. Together they made for an excellent meal. Bad idea even considering this spot! Rude! Rude! Rude! Walked in and saw an employee walking up to me. Before I even asked to see if they had any tables he blurted out "We are full!" Everybody in my party of 8 walked in a minute behind and he yelled to me again "Ma'am we are completely full!" I asked how long is the wait?" and he shrugged and yelled back "I don't' know!" That's when my husband raised his voice in Spanish "I understand that! So is there another place you could recommend then?" He immediately changed his tone. Americans beware! This restaurant really wows with their ambience! Tucked away on a side street bear La Ramblas, there is a beautiful little terrace in the middle of the restaurant. We were lucky enough to be seated there for our trip. Service was wonderful, all the waiters were very gracious and helpful. We ordered Patatas de Aliloli, croquettes de jamon, and an ensalada de tomatoes con queso. We also ordered a pitcher of sangria de cava. The pitcher of sangria was excellent and provided quite a few drinks for both me and my wife. All of our tapas were excellent as well. All the food came out quickly and very hot.
