Tom Guedea is a top notch sprinkler repair professional. I had a new fence put up, and during installation of one of the poles, the fence contractor broke my sprinkler wires. I ended up digging up the area around the pole and uncovered the sprinkler wires and attempted to fix them myself. Fortunately, the sprinklers came back to life, but I had abandoned zones that when they activated, a valve got stuck open causing the abandoned (and damaged) zones to consistently operate. I was unable to find my valve boxes, so I called in a pro. Tom showed up and had a very expensive wire tracer and in no time he found the valve box and permanently closed it. Everything else appeared to be working, but I had to run off to a work meeting. Unfortunately, that evening I tried to use my sprinkler controller, and my main zone wouldn't fire up. I asked Tom for help, he guided me through a couple simple checks, but that didn't work. Tom said he'd be back the next day, which he was. On the next day, after a ton of expert troubleshooting and even replacing the valve, it was determined there was very weak signal getting to the valve. Tom re-did all my wiring repairs and things were back to life. Tom sent me the invoice, and he didn't charge me a second trip charge. He didn't charge me some bonker wire tracing price. The price he charged me was unbelievably reasonable; I could imagine another vendor charging 2-3X. What is most lasting about my experience with Tom was his patience in explaining how things worked, telling me interesting best practices and tips in general. I can solve all your problems with one call to Guedea Services. I called Guedea Services based on the reviews of several Yelpers, including Darla A.. I had to wait about a week to get a couple of hours of Mr. Guedea's time, but it was well worth it. You see, I had a broken line that was repaired by another company last year. While they came out within two days and did a quick repair, it didn't last. The failing? They installed the slip joint coupling in opposition to the direction of water flow (essentially backwards), and water pressure gradually caused it to collapse on itself. Plumbing 101 FAIL. I'd let this situation persist since mid-June, relying primarily on runoff water from the yard to take care of the edge strip. That worked well when temperatures were in the 90s, but not so much with these egg-frying 100s. Mr. Guedea identified the issue right away and fixed it to last. Moreover he took the time to check each of the 40+ heads in my sprinkler system for proper performance. Along the way, he noted one clogged head, and several that had been damaged by my lawn service. I had plenty of parts on hand, so other than for the pipe repair, we relied on my inventory of sprinkler heads and nozzles, which saved Mr. Guedea and me both time and trouble. When Mr. Guedea left a couple of hours later, I felt more confident in my system's performance and ability to conserve water. Moreover, as many others have noted, while I already knew I had an associate's degree in irrigation, he put me well on the path to post-baccalaureate work with all of his helpful tricks and tips. And, his price was very reasonable for the time spent on the job to boot. So, I highly recommend Guedea Services for your irrigation system repairs. I had a broken sprinkler line last year in my back yard and called a plumber to repair it... $400 later the line was repaired. A couple of weeks later, I noticed the grass was dying in a portion of the yard where the plumber had worked. The sprinklers were not working there anymore. The guy had cut a sprinkler wire. (sigh) Fast forward to now... It is April and we are experiencing hotter than hell temps, and my lawn needs a drink. I was noticing the water bill creeping a lot higher than normal. Based on glowing yelp reviews, I called Tom at Guedea Services on Friday and he offered to come over late Monday afternoon. He charges by the hour ($65/hr. plus parts) and after the first hour he charges in 1/4 hour increments. Two hours later, he has dug up, found and fixed the cut wire, replaced several sprinkler heads, adjusted every sprinkler head in my yard to be more efficient and adjusted seven zones of valves to be more water wise. He left everything in good shape including where he dug. He is friendly, efficient, and honest. I know I will recoup my costs likely on the first one or two water bills. I also learned a good lesson. While the plumber did a great job repairing my pipe... I was paying plumber hourly rates. Next time I will use Tom for the yard irrigation and the plumber in the house. The good news, besides a working sprinkler system, the plumber agreed to pay a fair portion of Guedea's bill. read more

Wish I could give them TEN stars. We have a very complex irrigation system - 18 years old, 2 controllers, 24 stations, covers several acres, 3 areas added on after the initial installation, etc...I, No schematic diagram to go by. System sustained a lightning strike- damage to valves, controllers, heads, broken pipes, wires that went nowhere. Tom and his crew made sense of the spaghetti bowl of pipes and wires that was my system. Fixed everything, programmed the new controllers, put all the dirt and grass back just as it was before. Great service. Tom was the only one to respond and to come out on the day I called them for a leak in my sprinkler system that flooded my backyard in the corner. Bought a house in SW Austin in 2008 and the sprinklers started going nuts this year. Complete joke of a company. Had 2 appointments scheduled with them and they didn't show for either. The first time, I was scheduled for a late afternoon visit (4:30) on a Thursday. They hadn't showed up by 5, so I called the office and left a message. Got a call back 15 minutes later explaining that they were about an hour from completing their current job and that they would now be coming at 6:30. Still nothing at 7 PM. I called again, left another message and got a call back a couple of minutes later saying that they were sorry for not making it. I was very friendly and understanding at this point and based on the quality of the reviews here, wanted to give them another shot. So I rescheduled for exactly 2 weeks later on a Friday at 1:30. I left work early for the Friday appointment, came home, cleared my driveway and expected them to show up on time. After waiting for 30 minutes, I called their office again at 2 PM and left a message stating that I was home and looking out for them. Again, a friendly message with no hostility whatsoever. An hour went by and no call back. 2 hours went by and no call back. 4 hours went by and no call back. By 6 PM, I was feeling very let down and felt like they had been totally inconsiderate of my time. After all, they had missed the first appointment and now they were missing a second one. Finally got a call back from them today, the following Monday, with a message saying that they they were just getting back to my call from Friday and to call back if I still needed sprinkler repairs. No apology, no mention of having missed two appointments, not even an explanation of what happened (or didn't happen). So yeah, here I am about a month later and still having the same sprinkler problems. I waited patiently on these guys and they let me down in the worst way, twice. I would rather flush money down the toilet than give this company a single penny at this point. They will never see a dime out of me and I can't stress enough that they have no respect for the time of their potential customers. Recently, some very naughty dogs dug up a section of wiring for our irrigation system and chewed up several of the wires. My husband and I attempted a fix but weren't successful. He was recommended by a neighbor ... and yes, I did have some missed connections on the first appointment ... but it was well worth the wait. The absolutely best sprinkler company I've had in thirty years in the same house in Austin. Good news here is that he can install a external data point on your Hunter control that allows Guedea to program, control and service your system even if you are not home (if you don't have a Hunter, get one ... it is so far superior to any others out there that you are almost an idiot to not have one). My wife is immensely pleased; I am convinced that I will save money on water bills and have grass and plants that are all (rather than some) watered this year. He fixed the problem quickly and also took steps to undo a poorly-done previous repair by another company and do it right. They did a wonderful job getting my sprinklers reworked after we expanded our patio and added flowerbeds and additional hardscapes. My landscaper had tried but his overwatering actually killed one of our newly planted trees. My yard now has complete coverage and the zones have all been reset to prevent all the overwatering that was happening before. My yard is green and my water bill went down.
