Open doorways weave in and out of the dividing wall, allowing customers to float freely from continent to continent... er... section to section. Beautiful, plush scarves caught my eye, as well as some of the old writing table decorations. One room in the back was filled with an assortment of accessories, like jewelry, hair barrettes, and hats. Incredibly well organized, this shop is like strolling through a fashion museum. Prices were a little higher than expected, and although there were two salesladies in the store, neither of them acknowledged that I was there. That bumped Vintage Marketplace down to three stars. I'd still stop back for a browse though. The window display changes frequently (and, in my opinion, is the most elaborate in Hyde Park), so something new will likely draw me in again.

I stopped by Downtown Girl just as Ute (pronounced oo-tah, she's German) and her husband Tom were closing up. I told them my story and they insisted I come in for some shopping. With a flip of the switch, the lights were on and music was playing. Downtown Girl carries all sorts of accessories for the feminine urbanite: from Fleur-de-Lis necklaces to soft, furry scarves, bright handbags, and intricate jewelery. If you're looking for a statement fashion piece, you will find it here. Everything sold in Downtown Girl is hand-selected by Ute. You'll definitely be getting a one-of-a-kind accessory and for a very reasonable price. I purchased several glass nailfiles as gifts for my best girlfriends. Ute provided wrapping for each individual item, complete with bright violet tissue paper, a filigree gift bag, and a sticker with her shop's logo. All my gifting needs were cared for under one roof. The colors are muted, the apparel is understated and the jewelry looks more organic with lots of beads, natural stone and ceramic pieces. It's much more Serena than Blair. But oh my gosh, they have some to-die-for knits here! Do you ever find yourself watching a well-styled movie or TV show and you're thinking, "that's the outfit I want! It's so effortless and chic." This is exactly the place where you will find those effortless and chic looks. I'd head back in here before sweater season officially arrives to find some truly unique items.

The first that made this a must visit is that it is another black owned business in Cincinnati. We walked in and we were warmly greeted by all of the staff! Since the opening was just the week prior they were still unloading products but none the less they were ready to service us. I received a regular pedicure and my cousin received the jelly pedicure. The ambiance was cute, feminine and classy. The decor was super cute as well! In addition, they have a full service bar/lounge. And the music was a nice mix of current hits and throwbacks. The only things I could say that need improvement is having a service list posted or on hand that the techs can give to customers. If i has known there was a jelly pedicure option I would have gotten it. In addition, during my pedicure the water started to get cold just because they don't have bowls that have massage jets to keep the water circulating. Other than that no complaints! The techs are all nice and they take their time unlike other nail salons where they rush you out. I will be returning for sure!

The clothes brands are predominantly Express and Alter'd State... So if you buy those brands at full retail prices, which I often do, then this is your spot! This place is five stars in the discount/bargain hunter category, so take it for what it is. It's definitely not fancy and you may have to pick through the stuff... but if you're paying $4 for an item that started at $90, you really can't complain. Items have original tags and are clean and undamaged. They have fitting rooms and a strict no-refunds policy. Check it out if you're in the area and love a good deal! You won't be disappointed.
