My group ordered several appetizers, including the hummus sampler and the octopus. For the main dishes, everyone ordered either the skirt steak, branzino, or the chicken skewers. Everything was delicious. No complaints about the food at all. The only comment is that we were a table of seven with early reservations since we had a baby with us. Even though we were one of the first and only tables when we arrived, the service was a bit slow and we had to get the waiter's attention a few times. This was not enough to lose any stars. The waiter was very nice and attentive once he came by.

Other take out sushi found in many ethnic/gourmet supermarkets falls short on quality across the board with soggy nori, dried out rice, questionable fish, bad wasabi and that ever present pink ginger. Daikichi is a sort of catering service and not simply some employee trained to roll up basic offerings and slap them in a plastic container with bamboo graphics. This sushi is of course still best eaten as soon as it's stocked in the cooler, the eyes need to be used in making a choice rather than being stuck on one particular menu selection. It appears they make sushi in two major waves, first is at opening (9:30 am) and the second is around noon for the grab and go lunch crowd. Later in the day they slow production and begin to discount the remainder. The selection is varied and seasonal, my personal favorite here is either the Toro Maki or Sake Maki (under $6 for two). Futo maki, Temaki, Uramaki, Inari and Nigiri sushi are readily available in the chiller. It's been my personal experience that they don't do requests and the workers seem a bit unengaging but the product is solid and priced well. Party platters are available ranging in price from 25-55 dollars here's a link to the menu http://www.mitsuwa.com/restaurants-shops/restaurants-sushi/daikichi-sushi/ The wasabi is unfortunately prepackaged but of good quality however you can buy small cups of it when available right in the case. If you cant find soy sauce or chopsticks ask the casher. Go easy on the bluefin tuna! It's definitely worth coming back on a warmer day. They don't skimp on the side dishes. My favourites are the pickled radish, spicy cucumbers and fish cake. We always get the pancakes and LA galbi short ribs. They were tender, perfectly marinated, savoury, smoky char from the grill. By the time I get to the Soon Tofu, I'm already full. I usually go with the Beef & Seafood Tofu Soup (medium spicy), and the silkiness of the tofu is unmatched. In a piping hot stone pot--cracking that raw egg in immediately is the best part.

I had no idea this place was a chain until we sat down and saw the other locations on the placemats! My cousin and I came here last night (a Sunday) around 6:30 for a comforting bite. There weren't too many people here, so we were seated right away. A few servers interchanged and took our order, refilled our tea, and took our requests with easy smiles. SGD's main attraction is their tofu stew - a customizable soup that comes serves in a literal cauldron. Being that this was SGD's specialty, we knew we had to try. I opted for the spicy beef tofu stew with hot stone rice - it came piping hot, and continued to boil for a good 15 minutes before it became drinkable. The stew has a lovely flavor and was brimming with silky tofu. The beef was a little on the skimpy side - I would have liked more, but it was still tasty. I also would have liked to have seen some mix-ins be offered with the soup - such as sesame oil, green onions, etc. - to really make the flavors pop. However, it was tasty for what it was. The addition of a fresh cracked egg and the various pickled vegetables on the side really made the meal memorable. In addition, we ordered chicken bulgogi and it was absolutely fabulous - I actually liked it better than the soup and will definitely be back here to try. This is a no-frills space for good Korean food. I can't wait to go back!

NYC is catching up to major Japanese cities in terms of its sushi scene. World class sushi can be…read morehad for big $$$$. And very good sushi can be had for far, far less. There are many mid-tier, mid-priced sushi-ya -- not famous, but locally beloved -- tucked away in just about every residential neighborhood in Tokyo. Here, on the UWS, Tsumo is just this sort of favorite. I guess the biggest difference between Tsumo and its Japanese cousins is that unlike many neighborhood joints in Tokyo, Tsumo isn't owned and operated by a third generation sushi chef working alongside his (invariably his) son and wife. Tsumo UWS (one of two locations) features numerous sushi counters and many sushi chefs working for a nameless (to us) executive chef, working for a nameless (to us) company. For better or for worse, that doesn't make the sushi any less delicious. The sushi chefs are impeccably trained. Maybe there is something factory standardized about it all, but like it or not, the shari is prepared perfectly (more competently than One Bite these days), each piece of neta aged to a good texture and flavor and well cut. In short, the quality is on par with (perhaps even better than) a good neighborhood sushi-ya in Tokyo. At Tsumo, however, the "omakase" (read: set menu) doesn't vary much if at all. It's the same from season to season, from year to year. You can choose your own adventure to some extent by adding on pieces after the set meal is over. Missing is the element of surprise and the thrill of trying something new and unexpected that an itamae pulls out from a box under the sushi counter just for you. And missing is that special relationship you can develop with a kindly itamae who saves you a helping of special early May hotaru ika, or specially prepared shiokara or other chinmi b/c he knows it's the only week of the year when you'll be able to try it. But present: - I really do mean it when I say the shari is perfect. The short grain rice is seasoned with a touch of akazu, not too much sugar or salt, compressed into the right density, size, temperature and shape for how the neta is cut. - Each piece of neta is perfectly aged, in some cases garnished in a restrained way with, e.g. radish and chives, sturgeon caviar, black truffles, fried leeks. I like that the garnishes are not over the top and do not overwhelm the high quality fish. At our most recent meal, some pieces were overdressed with the viscous, almost syrupy soy sauce used in house (e.g. the hand roll and, to my great sadness, the uni), but this isn't always the case, here. We continue to be pretty darn happy with Tsumo, especially for this price point.

The vibe is lively without feeling chaotic, and the staff clearly loves what they do, which makes a huge difference. The omakase was AMAZING, especially for the price. Every piece felt thoughtful, fresh, and beautifully prepared. Starting with the 13 initial pieces was perfect, and we loved being able to add more afterward. It made the whole experience feel flexible and indulgent without pressure. Great food, great energy, and a format that works perfectly for a group night out. We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit. Highly recommend.
