Al pastor tacos
Manna C.

Al pastor tacos. That's it. That's all you need to order from here. I've eaten at this very unassuming place many times and ordered for pickup. There are a few tables inside if you want to eat in the restaurant. I have tried other tacos here but the al pastor tacos keep me coming back. The pork is tender and the pineapple works well. I feel like I'm making a mess every time I order from here since there's so much juices. Add some lime and red/green hot sauce depending on how spicy you want it. Also very affordable. Check this place out!

Came into the bodega hoping to try some bangin food. Ordered a quesadilla, chicharron in a verde sauce, and some other dish served with red sauce. Overall, the flavors weren't to my liking. The style it was cooked in, the chicharron was mostly fatty and blubbery drenched in the sauce. I generally prefer the crispy crunchy way. This was the complete opposite to what I'm use to. The hot sauces were on point. The quesadilla was mediocre, wasn't to die for. My son didn't really enjoy it. He's not a picky eater and I feed him good food so I can trust his taste buds. Verdict - I must give them another try and order something else from their crazy menu. Im gonna give them another chance and have an updated review in the near future. I had a pleasant conversation with the man behind the counter, I enjoy the vibe in this bodega/restaurant. They have a variety of Hispanic soft drinks and some beers I never even heard of which were pretty good.

R S.

In the neighborhoods of Ridgewood and Bushwick, there is certainly no dearth of taquerias. They of course vary in quality (reliant on seemingly random factors) and are central in a debate as to which are, indeed, "the best." I can't make a claim for everyone's taste buds, as apparently I'm in the minority opinion on some of these places, but Guadalajara is easily my favorite Mexican joint in the entire area. It's also a convenient place to do some shopping for produce and Mexican groceries, if I'm inclined to do the cooking myself that night. The menu goes beyond the typical tortas, tostadas and tacos and ventures into a variety of dishes that includes soups, seafood and even breakfast (if you come early enough). Now, of course, the above-mentioned items are available, but what's nice is that there is seemingly more variety than usual. The key part to Guadalajara that sells it to me as my "favorite" has to be the taste. It's absolutely authentic Mexican cooking that isn't afraid to use seasoning and spices to ensure the flavors are all there. The guacamole, in particular, is absolutely fantastic. The portions are fairly generous and the prices are easy on the wallet; a combination that I find rarely leaves anyone irritated. West Coast pals of mine, who swear that it's impossible to find good Mexican (or Korean) food in NYC have even been satisfied with the food offerings here. And, while I'm sure they're not infallible, this at least probably means something if we think about it for a few moments. While I typically take my food from here to go, there are a few tables in the middle of this deli/restaurant where people are almost always busily eating away. With a decent selection of Mexican beers and sodas, it's also not a bad idea to take a seat and enjoy oneself every so often. While it's certainly not the finest dining experience to be had in all of Ridgewood, Guadalajara deserves some mildly enthusiastic attention, at the very least.

Veggie burrito.
Latef X.

I'm from California, and this place is okay, but not a real Cali burrito. The veggie burrito doesn't really have any veggies in it -- it is a bean, rice and cheese burrito with some pico de gallo. But it is good and flavorful. Wish they had black beans or pinto for a healthier, lighter substitute. Chips are super crunchy and thick -- authentic taqueria tortilla chips. Guac is okay. Their green salsa needs some work -- the flavor is almost bitter and the consistency is too watery. But it has good heat which doesn't always happen with green sauce. Place is a small deli that sells other sundries. There is limited seating and feels a little funny because you're basically eating inside a corner store amongst the aisles of food. Place seems family owned, and the counter man works really hard.

The staff is always incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the space itself is cozy and charming. The food and drinks are consistently phenomenal. I've probably tried just about everything on the menu at this point, and not a single dish has ever disappointed. Even though I don't usually like salmon, theirs is prepared so well that I actually enjoy it. Some of my personal favorites are the birria tacos, tortilla soup, and the wet burrito. The drinks are just as impressive, with a secret sangria recipe that's always a hit. My go to is the frozen watermelon margarita, refreshing and delicious every time. As a longtime regular, I can confidently say that once you try La Casita, you'll be hooked and want to come back again and again.

Starting with the Soft Scramble Egg Tostada, scrumptious is the right word! The eggs were perfectly soft and creamy and paired with that chili sauce it had just the right amount of heat to wake everything up. The Shrimp Ceviche was clean, bright and fresh, served with thick crispy tostadas to scoop it all up. The Chamoy Watermelon though? order it, full stop! Juicy watermelon cubes coated in chamoy, chili flakes and mint. Sweet, spicy, tangy and refreshing all at once. It's one of those dishes that sounds simple but completely delivers. The Chicken Milanesa was a solid protein forward dish. Beautifully golden and crispy with a light coleslaw on top that kept it from feeling too heavy. And the Chilaquiles were loaded and satisfying, topped with crema, cotija and scallions. The Vampiro cocktail has spicy tequila, house sangrita, hibiscus and grapefruit. It had everything I look for in a drink. Bold, a little spicy and so well balanced. Couldn't have chosen better!

The staff were very friendly and welcoming, helping explain the menu & giving us great suggestions. Started off with pineapple margaritas that were REALLY good & not too strong. The fried oaxacan cheese, three cheese empanada & shrimp ceviche was extremely delicious. Shrimp ceviche tastes fresh and the small jalapeños offered just the right kick of spice. The chicken milanesa & dry-aged pork chop were absolutely delicious. Pork chop was a buttery savory delight & the chicken was cooked to perfection, was moist not over cooked & had a wonderful crunch. The green rice was surprisingly good (I'm not the biggest fan of rice). The space was a lot smaller than I had anticipated but very well thought out, didn't feel like we were sitting on top of an each. I love an open kitchen concept to see what it takes to pump out delicious meal after meal. If this is on your list or you're in the area, run, jog, speed walk to this neighborhood gem it will not disappoint.

There is a patio outside for additional seating. It is family owned and if there is one downside is that they are a little slow. But it's so worth it. Go if you're not in hurry. We got so much food: different tacos, quesadilla, elote, horchata, salsa, chips, and guacamole. It was all good. The elote was sweet, salty, and smokey. The chips were warm, the guacamole was creamy with a hint of spice. There was three distinct salsa, one green, two red. One red was super spicy. The horchata was frothy, nicely spiced, and just a little sweet. The tacos were really good. I had the fish, birria, and the surf n turf (shrimp and steak). The fish tasted fresh. The shrimp was bouncy and the steak was flavorful. The birria taco was one of the best birria taco I've had outside of San Diego. My daughter had the chicken quesadilla. She said it was very cheesy. For dessert we had their churros. It was freshly made. The filling tasted slightly like coffee and was molten hot. The caramel dip which was very pudding-like really added to the flavor of the churros. We found our new favorite taqueria.

Then I ordered guacamole which they made fresh at the table. I thought that was pretty cool and don't see that often anymore. The enchiladas came with a savory salsa verde sauce and side of rice and beans! Everything was cooked to perfection. The owner was also my server! She was amazing (I didn't get her name) but she made my drink and made the guac too! I look forward to treating myself again to dinner here soon.

I ordered the quesadilla, which was a bit odd for me to do as I never order a quesadilla. My thought process was that since I LOVED their burrito the last time, they must make a good quesadilla. Finding a spot can be tough, so give yourself a few extra minutes for parking. Once inside, we were greeted immediately and seated right away. Since it was quiet on a Monday, we had our pick of tables. The atmosphere is warm and inviting--dim lighting paired with low Spanish music playing in the background. We sampled three different drinks throughout the meal, and all were excellent: White Sangria (First Place): Exceptionally refreshing and smooth--the standout drink of the night. Frozen Margarita (Second Place): Perfectly blended with a delicious, smooth, slushy consistency. Red Sangria (Third Place): Very enjoyable, though slightly outshined by the other two. It's worth noting that Klan Destino offers two distinct menus--one Mexican and one Argentinian. We ordered entirely from the Argentinian side, and the kitchen delivered on all fronts. For appetizers we ordered Burrata Klandestina which is a unique spin compared to traditional Italian burrata. It was well-executed, served alongside a fresh salad and flavorful prosciutto. Our main course was Asado Klandestino Pura Vaca - For Two. The highlight of the meal which was packed with an outstanding selection of meats. The portion was huge and we couldn't finish it all. It made for fantastic leftovers at home. For dessert, we had the Tiramisu. It was perfectly balanced. Neither the espresso nor the chocolate overwhelmed the dish, making for a light, delicious end to the meal. Klan Destino delivers great ambiance, excellent service, and great quality food. But anyway, there I was sitting on the patio next to these fake-looking potted plants, staring at my drink and looking at Metropolitan traffic. My Red Sangria came in this tall glass with a slice of orange stuck on top, looking all fancy, and it had a bunch of chopped-up fruit floating around at the bottom that you couldn't actually reach without making a total mess, but to be fair, it wasn't half bad. It was cold and fruity and kept me from having to talk to anybody for a few minutes. Then came the "Tacos Entraña." That's skirt steak, if you're not trying to sound like you're from somewhere, somewhere, where its like common and stuff. They serve three of them on this wooden board because apparently regular plates aren't stable enough for many Mexican restaurants anymore. They were absolutely smothered in this white crema stuff, cilantro, and chopped onions. I'll admit, though, the meat actually tasted pretty damn good. It was thick, properly charred. I go into these new pop-ups expecting the whole food fusion thing to be a total fraud, and then the food actually turns out to be quite excellent and not too expensive. I had a great waiter who made the whole lunching experience feel effortless. I lefy feeling taken care of, without ever feeling like I was part of someone else's performance.
