We found a new great place for authentic Mexican food. We went for a birthday dinner. The place is pretty small so an 8 person party was just the right size. There is a patio outside for additional seating. It is family owned and if there is one downside is that they are a little slow. But it's so worth it. Go if you're not in hurry. We got so much food: different tacos, quesadilla, elote, horchata, salsa, chips, and guacamole. It was all good. The elote was sweet, salty, and smokey. The chips were warm, the guacamole was creamy with a hint of spice. There was three distinct salsa, one green, two red. One red was super spicy. The horchata was frothy, nicely spiced, and just a little sweet. The tacos were really good. I had the fish, birria, and the surf n turf (shrimp and steak). The fish tasted fresh. The shrimp was bouncy and the steak was flavorful. The birria taco was one of the best birria taco I've had outside of San Diego. My daughter had the chicken quesadilla. She said it was very cheesy. For dessert we had their churros. It was freshly made. The filling tasted slightly like coffee and was molten hot. The caramel dip which was very pudding-like really added to the flavor of the churros. We found our new favorite taqueria. read more

This was my 2nd time visiting this restaurant and it's already becoming a favorite little place in the area for good food, delicious drinks, and chill vibes. I walked in after an afternoon of shopping in the area and sat at a table by myself. It's not a big or fancy restaurant. Definitely family owned business but you can really taste the love they put into their business. I ordered a watermelon mojito and it was so so good - like one of the best I've ever had. Then I ordered guacamole which they made fresh at the table. I thought that was pretty cool and don't see that often anymore. The enchiladas came with a savory salsa verde sauce and side of rice and beans! Everything was cooked to perfection. The owner was also my server! I have been coming to this restaurant for years. While the food has always been good, the service has consistently been subpar. My husband has been urging me to stop coming here, but I've always had a soft spot for the food and the staff. Unfortunately, today was the deal breaker. We came as a party of five, including my mother. They didn't have a table for us, so instead of offering any reasonable solution, they split us up--three of us at the bar and two at a separate table. Then, just five minutes after seating us, a table opened up, yet they didn't bother to move us until we were nearly done with our meal. The service was slow, and when the bill arrived, it was higher than I expected. I typically don't ask for a receipt, but this time, I did. That's when I realized that they had already included a 20% tip--without saying a word--on top of which I had unknowingly tipped an additional 20%. I had to go back and adjust it, but at that point, I had already reached my limit with this place. It's one thing to have consistently poor service, but to not disclose an included gratuity and then expect an additional tip is unacceptable. Combine that with the way they handled our seating arrangement, and I'm officially done. After years of loyalty, this was the final straw. I will not be returning. read more

I met a friend here for a weekday lunch. Their outdoor patio in the back is surprisingly spacious, and we had it all to ourselves this given summer day. Even though we were the only ones there, the wait staff was very attentive! Definitely go for the guac. They make it table side, and it was delicious. The menu is surprisingly huge. It was hard to pick what to get. Go for the tacos so you can try a variety! They do not skimp on size. Walked into this establishment just because we were in the area and wanted tacos, it was completely empty by that meaning bo one was in there, it was decorated so nice. The young man who spoke to me at first was so calm and helpful It was 5 of us, we placed our orders which took a little while, had some shots ( $28 for 1 shot ) be mindful about that. The gauva frozen drinks wasn't all that. 15/20 min after our order came they were absolutely delicious, very authentic Mexican tacos, the hot sauce very spicy added that extra kick to it, the French fries was also delicious. I went here for Cinco de Mayo and it was busy, but we were able to get a seat outside. They had music which was a little loud but not to the point where you couldn't talk. Definitely very festive and good for big groups. There was a table of about 10 people which is probably why it took a while to get our order. we got chicken wings which were bit spicy in buffalo flavor, there were six pieces but I needed a cup of water to finish them. Then I got the shrimp taco, Carne Asada, and the chicken Al Pastor taco. my favorite was the shrimp it was very good service and the food was great. For as long as it took to prepare my food I was expecting my steak to be cooked. This place was not busy at all (maybe 2 people inside) so I'm not sure what took my food so long. Anyways when I received my food I noticed the aroma wasn't that great. Nonetheless based on the reviews I still had high expectations for this place. Welp, I placed my expectations too high on this place. Maybe because the place was empty the chef didn't feel like cooking today ? My burrito didn't have much flavor to it. Horrible customer service, I ordered 3 tacos like I usually do from this place and this time it came with cheese and other toppings i didn't ask for when I got these for my little sister, then later when I called, the employee wanted to blame it on me for not being specific but they lacked to be specific that their tacos had other things on it. Came here for dinner one evening when the SO and I were in the area running errands. Service was friendly and the menu quite varied, with all your usual Mexican offerings. The SO got some of their tacos while I got an order of their cheese flautas. We were in the 'hood for some Ethiopian cuisine, but it was closed, so our second option was to go for tacos and frozen margaritas, and Taqueria Kermes didn't fail to deliver! We started with Frozen Mango Margarita with Chili Lime on the rim ($12). It was really good! We then ordered 3 tacos, Michoacán, De Lengua and Jalapeño Chorizo ($3.75 ea.); and Tinga de Pollo Burrito ($10.50). I really enjoyed my tacos, but I decided to spice it up with some hot sauce. we went right when they opened so the food took a little longer than normal because of set up, however it was definitely worth the wait. we started with the queso fundido which was delicious! the main entree ordered was the chicken "al pastor" tacos and steak quesadilla which was ON POINT. not much sauce for flavor on top was needed. the flavor was appreciated. The only critique I would give is for the frozen margarita. The consistency was much like a smoothie instead of a frozen drink and we're not that strong. other than that, I would definitely recommend, and will be returning in the future!! read more

Yelp hours say they open at 11am. So, yeah, if you are making a trip be sure to check. Now the good stuff... The tacos were great and the prices were good, too. This is my favorite restaurant in the area. My boyfriend had ordered from there a year or so ago when he first moved into the area, but never had eaten at the place. The quarantine had us restless and so once outdoor dining opened up again, we were thrilled to find a gem in the heart of Ridgewood. The back patio is so comfortable, decorated beautifully by our fave server, David. He and the other servers provide top-tier customer service and we so appreciate that they strive to keep customers comfortable and happy. On multiple occasions, the chef has brought us our food which we take as such an honor (tho we know it's probably just because an extra set of hands were needed)!! We love so many food items on the menu-- from the crispy coconut shrimp, the chicken alambre, enchiladas verdes, surf and turf taco, or the milanesa de pollo, it's all delicious and made to perfection. The drinks are also definitely worth writing home about-- the classic and strawberry margaritas are tasty and definitely hit the spot this summer. Went on Yelp looking for Mexican cuisine and I stumbled upon this place. Small little place , clean , and full bar. Great food overall. The quesadillas with pork were so tasty, and the churros I can't wait to heat up for a snack later. The only reason I don't give five stars was the server wasn't really attentive (but sweet) . I told her I didn't want spicy and she didn't mention the guacamole was or the red sauce on the elote. Although I still ate it, next time she should mention about the spice included in some dishes. However now I know and will ask for none of that sauce or guacamole or whatever green was on the quesadilla. read more

Tacos are dirt cheap and delicious, I had the chicken and carnitas tacos with a side of the plantains and crema. Fantastic. Service to begin with was good, but it took a while to get my check. My two tacos and the side were about $10, I really can't complain. I'm never usually out this way when I'm in the city but if I happen to be in the neighborhood again I'll come back. Great tacos and great prices. This place is a hidden gem. I did not like the steak in the surf n turf taco, but the shrimps in it were good. The grilled fish taco could probably use a bit more seasonings, but the freshness made up for this flaw. The little meats taco did not taste the way I would expect, but I think it is also partially because I am not a huge fan of slow roasted pork, next time I would probably order the al pastor chicken taco instead. After mentioning that the pineapples from their chicken al pastor weren't roasted/charred (because they weren't, they literally looked like they were taken out straight from the can and thrown on the taco), I was given a snappy attitude because he argued with me that "they are cooked". My friend mentioned that it was false advertising on their menu since she also noticed that the pineapples weren't cooked. My friend had this restaurant bookmarked for months.. and finally, we had a chance to try it! We were not disappointed! Food was delicious and fresh! Tacos were flavorful, though, I wasn't too excited about their guacamole n tortilla chips (I've def had better). Though the tacos were definitely the star!
