The original roofing on our 2006 house near the ocean was beaten up and on the verge of leaking. Roofs don't last very long out here due to the high winds and sideways rain. So, a few weeks ago a local handyman I know contacted GT for me and their estimator was out a week later. We negotiated a great deal, signed a contract that day and scheduled the work to be done whenever the wind and rain finally took a break. That day was today! The GT crew showed up at 8 AM and worked as a coordinated team of roofing ninjas. They tore off the old comp, replaced rotted plywood over the eves, laid down new laminated "paper", hand nailed the new much more attractive modern style composition roofing shingles, the old roof ridge vent, the boots around the plumbing vents, added flashing, and, naturally, they cleaned up every speck of debris from the tear-off. The last truck rolled away just before 1 PM, so in less than 5 hours they did an impressive job from start to finish. Two crews came out to replace both house and barn roofs. House got new skylights, vents and metal edging all the way around which had not been done right the last time. The 50' X 60' barn got the entire metal roof replaced because of excessive leaks and got new insulation as well. The crews were fast, efficient and cleaned up the whole area very well. I contacted GT Roofing, LLC out of Centralia, WA to obtain a bid for a roof replacement on my home. The company's owner, Umberto, came by and took measurements. I was surprised that he chose not to inspect the attic for moisture damage or the presence of mold, especially after I mentioned to him that I had seen the presence of mold--a sign that moisture was present. When I asked him if he wanted to take a look in my attic, he said he'd prefer to view it when the roof was open and there was more light. Sure. That would be a lot easier. But, depending on what he found, the cost to replace "infected/damaged" underlayment could range from a $100 to $1,500. I wanted to budget for this. I called and told the company's receptionist, Makayla, that I'd have to hold off until 2017 when I was more able to budget for a new roof. When summer of 2017 arrived I reached out to her again with my plans to move forward. I even let her know what color and type of roofing shingle I'd like. I also asked her if her company offered any short-term financing. I had saved up about 40% of the new roof's cost and said I could make monthly payments of $550. She apparently checked with the owner and called me back and said they could do that. I asked her to put me down for an early September re-roofing. She said I was on their schedule. At the end of August, I called and spoke with a different lady who was filling in for Makayla. I asked to know the specific date my roof was scheduled for. She said she'd have Umberto call me back on Tuesday, September 5th. I thought it was kind of weird that I hadn't already been told the "exact" date. I didn't hear back from him at all that week. The next week I called his cell phone and left my phone number for him to call me back. Again, he never returned my call. I reached out to the office to find out if their company was still in operation or if Umberto was no longer with GT Roofing. The lady told me that Umberto had made the decision to NOT do my roof, because of the special requests I had made. Really? It was sure nice that he was very professional in communicating that to me, especially since I had waited until the end of the dry season to get my roof done. Had he told me a month or two prior, I might have gotten my roof done with someone else. Thanks, Umberto! I'll make sure to tell everyone I run into how you treated me as a potential customer and left me hanging. read more

It was time to replace our old roof and not only that, the 2-foot overhanging eaves needed to be replaced as well. GT Roofing's estimate for the roof was in the middle of the other estimates we got. The price difference came with replacing the eaves. The company with the least expensive roofing bid wanted $200 per sheet of plywood, whereas GT wanted $40. BIG DIFFERENCE when you are talking about replacing the eaves all the way around. We had GT do the shop roof, were thrilled with the job they did, so we had them come back a few months later and do the house. GT brought a large crew of hard-working men, all from the same village in Mexico. They had been working as a team for years and it showed. In one day, they ripped off the old roof, cut away the rotting eaves, put down new plywood, put on all new flashing, laid down an architectural shingle roof, and nailed it all by hand. When they were done, a worker went around with a high-powered magnet on wheels to pick up any dropped nails and a couple of workers picked up any other debris the crew had dropped. When the Lewis County building inspector came to look over the first roofing job, he found one piece of flashing had been missed. He asked who did the job and when I told him it was GT Roofing, he went ahead and did a provisional sign-off with no need for a re-inspection because he knew GT Roofing would make it right. After the inspection of the second roofing job, the inspector asked who did it, and when I responded, "GT Roofing", he said, "I like them. They're good." One building inspector trusts a contractor and another likes their work and a customer hires them to come back for a second job -- that pretty much says it all. read more

I had several roofers give me a bid and GT Roofing was the only company that recommended skylights to be replaced. They were honest about how the skylights wouldn't last as long as the roof and said if it were their home they would replace them. This was great advice and a reflection on their experience and how well they know their trade. New roof looks great and skylights were replaced. read more

STRIKE ONE: Had a brand new $12,000.00 roof installed by GT Roofing less than three months ago and it is already leaking. STRIKE TWO: After the roof was installed I went to pay the remainder of my bill and they tacked on an extra $150 card processing fee that they didn't tell me about up front. STRIKE THREE: The office has one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had to deal with. The owner hides behind his secretary. His secretary is very argumentative and lacks customer service skills. They are absolutely unacceptable and you will regret ever hiring these guys. In my opinion, their secretary needs to be fired! I would have given -1 star, but as you savvy computer users know the star rating system in place forces the user to give at least one star. My recommendation is to go with the Roof Doctor or another reputable company in the Lewis/Thurston county area. read more
